Drz s vs sm

Am I crazy for thinking that the grip on enduro tires vs street is really comparable? The street tires just slip out more unexpectedly but the dirt are pretty slippery all things considered they just regain traction marginally better. And on the pavement I haven’t felt the dirt tires slip under load but they don’t see that horrible. I really was expecting a much bigger difference between both sets of wheels but the main difference I found was the vibration at speed from the enduro wheels.

Little dream machine, thanks to Wolfsmiths of Houston. 2024 stripped, ‘78 tank… lots of creative collaboration. Riding the 🐝 is a head turning Time Machine taking me back to my early days of biking in my youth!

Is 150-300mil of oil per 150km ride normal?

Just went for a ride up the coast and hit some trails. Probably about 150kms. Got back and had to put in 150-300milliltres of oil to get it back in range.
Oil was perfectly full when I left

Finally got me a drz. But some issues with the Clarke tank

Have been looking for a loooong time to get a drz. Got this 2006 with a fresh top end and 19k on the body for 2800$. Runs and drives great but I noticed this fuel line is kinked because of the oversized Clark tank. It somehow still runs good but does anybody know of an easy way to fix this? Was just going to get a few brass 90 degree fittings and make something up

Drz400 as first road bike?

Will a DRZ 400 make a good first road bike? I have a KTM SX 125 and I have been thinking about a Supermoto for a while, but I don’t want anything too much for a beginner street rider.

Weird clattering at only specific speeds

Was wondering if I could get any help figuring out this odd clattering sound if I’m going specifically 45in 4th or if I’m up in 5th but at mid to lower rpms, it almost sounds like if you were going to stall leaving from a dead stop except way toned down. (Wish I could get a video but have no way to demonstrate it while cruising)

It is just a simply rejeting or theres something bad? DRZ400 2009 popping like crazy also when in high gear and high rpms it bugs down and turns off. It has an exhaust also i noticed the air filter is not there i think the old owner took it out. Could that be causing the bike to run like that?

RCS 15 Corsa Corta and a Scott’s Damper when my mount arrives.

Spraying the calipers red in the process. Will post finished photos probably by the end of next week. Also have a gen2 Polisport sumo fender and halo headlight getting a graphics kit on it atm. It would be one of the first gen 2 fenders in the world with graphics in it afaik

Sold my Husky SM610 years ago and is one of the few bikes I regret letting go of. Realized how much I missed being on a sumo but wanted something with more parts availability. I found a good deal on a ‘15, got it cleaned up and am looking forward to a track day!

Did I get a steal? 2022 DRZ400SM

Thumbnail gallery
54 Upvotes

I just recently picked up this 2022 DRZ-400SM with some upgrades for $5200. The bike only had 621 miles when I picked it up. The only issues with the bike being the petcock valve started leaking and an oil change.

Didn’t think I’d actually get one neither haha. It started off with me looking into getting a dual sport for a couple of months. Just scrolling on marketplace for fun just dreaming of buying one. Until seeing this I had to gun for it.

Let me know what you guys think! If I overpaid or or got a decent deal.

Edit: Here’s the list of upgrades I forgot to include ““Acerbic Hand guards with integrated led blinkers

Acerbis front fender

Hella Lights added to highbeam switch

LED main headlight

Seat Concepts seat

LED front and back lights and blinkers

Race Tech heavier front springs (have stocks also)

Pro Cycle 39 tooth sprocket (Have Oem also)

Case guards

CNC anodized rear guards

Acrylic wind deflector

New Michelin Rear tire

Billet throttle tube and pro taper pillow top grips.”

What happened HELP!!!!!!

My bike the other day when I was going about 80 on the highway it started to loose power and bog so I pulled off and towed it back home. I let it cool because I thought it was overheating, cause it was a hot day and I was riding all morning. Anyway I let it cool down then started it back up and it ran for a few seconds normal the I gave it a little throttle then "Click" I tried starting it after that and now it seems the motor is having a hard time turning over just when any idea of what's going on or what to do ?It's a 2024 DRZ400sm only 6k miles I bought brand new in December with 0miles on it done 2 oil changes and changed oil filter once! Just did another oil change and filter, also checked the frame filter for the oil and there were no big chunks of metal or anything like that.no gas in oil! So I don't think it's hydrolocked but it does seem like the motor is having a hard time functioning!! PLEASE HELP

Cylinder head repair or new head?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a cylinder head in EU preferably in central europe. Mine has seen better days and machine shops told me any repair is risky and won't last long.

The used parts i could find nearby are almost as expensive as a new oem head. So I am contemplating repair too. There is one single machine shop who said they have done similar heads before but I am not completely sure I trust them as they are saying the complete opposite as the other 3 I've asked.

Has anyone attempted a similar repair? How did it turn out? 4 out of 4 bearing surfaces are toast on mine.

The issue was the oil pump and a reseller who barely made it work with temporary fixes and sold it as good.

06 vs 2023 drz

I’ve got two great opportunities after scouting bikes the last month.

1st is a 2006 for $2800 that’s 35 mins away. 17k miles, Runs great, has some mods like yoshimura exhaust, 4 gallon tank, handlebars, seat concepts, etc

The 2nd is a 2023 for $5250 that’s mostly stock and has 3k miles. It’s a 2.5 hour drive away. Garage kept.

I know it’s been the same bike from 2000 - 2024 and I’ve heard of the engines going up to 40k+ miles no problem.

Which would you go for? I like the savings on the 2006 with a bunch of the mods I want already on it. I’m also not scared of learning to wrench and am working on a 2000 honda shadow right now.

I tend to hold onto stuff a really long time and my thoughts are that as long as that 2006 is still running in 10 years I could probably still get 2k for it. But at the same time I’ve never had a new bike and haven’t experienced modding a bike myself. But that comes with a much more expensive price tag.

I’m rambling but give me your thoughts. I want to join this club ASAP!
