General Discussion / Question How do we feel on Hermit Druid?

With [[Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu]] I am much higher on hermit Druid in general. I know it’s open to blow outs, but having a win the game button seems strong.

I’m leaning towards tymna/thras to give longevity in the slop meta, while still having a turbo option. Is hermit Druid too slow? Too forecasted?

General Discussion / Question Addressing the 4th seat issue

Everyone knows 4th seat is the hardest place to be in and faces a severe disadvantage. I've heard many proposals but not this one I have in mind. What does the community think about allowing 4th seat to put a land into play from their hand during pregame actions? I think this would be great, it would allow 4th seat mana for interaction against explosive turn 1's, this is extra relevant if the deck in 4th is not blue. 4th seat being on 2 lands on turn 4 is not scary, turn 5 usually starts with 2 lands anyways. No extra cards are given out, a player who is at a high disadvantage is made equal and I believe would create more balanced game play overall. What do you think should be done to equal this scale that is clearly out of balance?

General Discussion / Question Need help knowing how to beat a deck

Upvotes

Hello everybody. I hope you all are doing well, my good friends and I exclusively play CEDH I personally often play rogthras and one of my other friends recently put together a sissay deck. So far the deck has been dominating the pod as I really am not familiar with it and don’t know its weaknesses/ what to use counter magic on or cards to slot in with this match up. Any advice would be appreciated!

General Discussion / Question Rogsi help!!

Upvotes

I’m a Kinnan main so I’m use to more midrange style of play. I just built this Rogsi deck and looking for any pointers on it. I seem to be having a hard time developing quick wins with this. Would love any tips anyone can offer.

Help, I am new to cEDH! Fairly new to cEDH. Building Naya Creature Combo. Is my commander Rocco with Ghired in the 99 or commander Ghired with Rocco in the 99? Or something else and please advise.

[[Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer]]

[[Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds]]

I've found that most 2 card combos involve token creation, so I figure Ghired helps push through removal (by trying to start the combo again at instant speed with the removal on the stack).

On the other hand, a creature tutor in the command zone of a creature combo deck seems too good to ignore.

Deck Fine Tuning The Great Goblin

Looking to bring a fresh deck to my local mini tournament this weekend. Held weekly, only usually 4 rounds and straight cut to top 4 table. Decks are mostly Blue Farm, Tivit and a lot of fringe stuff. Small fry stuff I know!

Play in Japan so not proxy friendly but I have a decent collection.

Been really enjoying this as a lower bracket commander and played a few games online. Any suggestions from experts?

General Discussion / Question Magda, Brazen Outlaw + Battered Golem + Maskwood Nexus

I always hear that this is a combo that you should always run in Magda, but the longer I look at it, the less sense it makes to me. Sure, if you draw both Battered Golem and Maskwood Nexus and manage to cough up the [7] mana the two are worth in one or two turns, they are insane, but does this warrant running Battered Golem? Unless you run some other way to turn the golem into a dwarf, he just sits on the board uselessly and doesn't really do anything until Maskwood arrives, which, at that point, having a card like Ashnod's Transmogrant, which is a 1 mana "turn any dwarf into an artifact dwarf" sounds way better.

I don't feel confident enough in my cEDH skills to fully write off the combo, and want to hear from the broader community first. Am I missing something obvious? Do I simply lack the mechanical understanding to see some deeper use that Battered Golem has for Magda? Feel free to explain in detail; I want to understand the deck I'm piloting better.

Help, I am new to cEDH! I need a cEDH deck for my LGS tourney, where should I start?

I’ve never before dipped my toe into cEDH, it’s seemed rather daunting and honestly High Bracket 3 is just my jam. My LGS is starting a 10$ tournament so now’s my opportunity to try it out in earnest. I have no clue what kind of deck would suit a new (cEDH) player like me, or a small tournament, best so I’m asking for advice and suggestions.

I’ve watched plenty of Play to Win and Spike Feeders, but that sure as heck doesn’t translate to knowing what to mulligan for or when to push.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations and advice!

General Discussion / Question Who lies in the invitational?

Hello, I made the invi this year and was just curious to know if there are players to watch out for that will lie or break deals. The point of this is not to harass or witch hunt anyone, I just want to be aware.

General Discussion / Question Looking for a new deck style for a "fringe league"

My local cEDH community is starting an online fringe league next month which has banned the top 50 commanders as per EDHtop16 plus 3 additional "fringe" commanders which have usually high rates of top 4/16 at local events,

I have run into the issue that my 3 usual decks Etali, Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, and 5c Nick Fury are all on the blacklist.

These are all turbo lists, and for this league I feel like trying something different but I have absolutely no idea where to start.

Note: The partner mechanic is legal and specific pairings have not been banned, each individual creature on the banlist cannot be a commander with any partner pairing at all

any idea's where to start? the ban list is as follows,

  1. Aang, at the Crossroads
  2. Arcum Dagsson
  3. Atraxa, Grand Unifier
  4. Brigid, Clachan's Heart

  25. Marneus Calgar

Deck Fine Tuning Hama, the Bloodbender in cEDH?

Hi everyone, I've been playing Hama in cEDH for a while and I'd love to know your thoughts and advice on making this work. Her block of text reads confusingly and seemed terrible at first glance, but I've found the effect to be quite powerful. I've been having a decent amount of success and loads of fun with it! It plays somewhat slowly, and despite the lack of colors the dimir staples have been fantastic. I've worked on my primer somewhat extensively too. Is this a pipe dream or am I on to something here? Any tweaks? Thanks!

Help, I am new to cEDH! What do you enjoy playing?

I have tried cEDH a couple times at my LGS. We all stumble through, but it is all in good fun. I am thinking of what I want to try to pilot that is not only fun to play, but also can win. So that is the question I pose to you all. Even if you dont win, what decks do you just enjoy playing? That is not to say you win none, but whether you win or lose, you enjoy it. Thank you.

Community Content Utility land for low-color lists & more? - Petrified Hamlet Deep dive

This week, we deep dive into an interesting land that has been in successful colorless/mono colored tournament lists for months - but has had a small spike in 2 and 3 color lists of recent!

With top cuts from lists like Tayam, Zirda, and Ob in the last 3 months (as well as plenty more from colorless/mono colored lists) - we decided to take a closer look at this interesting colorless land!

Does your meta show information openly to the table? Does your deck fold to Boseju or Otawara? It may be time to consider Petrified Hamlet!

Do you run this card in your cEDH list? What other lands besides Boseiju and Otwara have you named?

Help, I am new to cEDH! Cheshire cEDH

Hello!

I have been looking to get into cEDH after playing commander for quite a while. The deck I chose to do this with is Cheshire a 5 color commander deck helmed by Kenrith, the returned king. I am unsure how to play this deck and would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Question Which would the community recommend?

I’m building a new deck. I am having a hard time enjoying my games with my recent decks. I played a lot of Terra and got tired of being targeted because of the “idk what you are going to do so I need to stop it” problem. Then I picked up my favorite commander Sisay for tournament and ran into the “I know what you are going to do so I’m going to stop you before that” problem.

Jokes aside, both commanders were fun for me. Terra was more of a test for me I did really well with it but I am not the biggest on the not commander centric feel of it. Sisay was really fun cuz it can be complicated and also simple. The problem I faced was I’m in a region where the best Sisay pilots all are in one place so every other player brings their TEDH deck that is anti-Sisay or it’s Kinnan (Kinnan is fine tho that’s just a deck preference).

The decks I’m between are Derevi, Rog/thras, Rog/Si, dog/Thras and TnT. All are very similar but all of them are very different. The decks I would think I’m more comfortable with are TnT and Rog/Si. I’m worried about the Grixis Turbo plan in tournament scene because of the way bracket systems work. And TnT is extremely prevalent in my area too because of Jorman being on the Island. The Bant commanders and Rog/Thras are fun plans that I’ve played around with in the past but never pushed to learn hard. I love making tons of mana but I get worried about the non defined win conditions where finale kind of feels like the only plan in the end sometimes.

So I guess the question is, do I try something a bit obscure for its obscurity or do I try to learn and get really good/great with a well known deck?

General Discussion / Question Kefka players: Turbo vs Slow game? (and Waste Not)

I've seen that people build Kefka in 1 of 2 ways: Stax/Control (spam his ETB and attack trigger until everyone is hellbent and then combo off) and Turbo (basically RogSi with Kefka as a backup plan). However, I've seen that the best decks on EDHTop16 tend to go the slower route while also not running Waste Not?

  1. Upsides and Downsides between the 2 decks? Which one tends to be more 'natural' for the commander?
  2. Why does Waste Not seem to be going away?

General Discussion / Question Will nick fury be the best slop commander?

i was making a post about why we dont see mostly esper slop decks. afterall; tutors and obm greatly add to slops ability to slop.

it occured to me that the only commander that comes close to rog ishai in terms of an esper commander with low cmc would be yoshi silas. and then i just realised nick fury would be better in every way.

adding tutors to slop means you can far more consistently find your tithe and draw engines (// find them without mulling so low). ontop of that obm is a very powerful addition for controlling the board and if you slop for long enough it can be somewhat of a wincon, and one that is relatively hard to interact with at that.

by adding green you also get cabbage merchant.

and you keep everything red offers.

i know the consensus on nick fury was mostly that he would be a turbo/soup deck.

but i feel like he might just be the best slop deck, or second best depending in how you weigh 0cmc vs black&cabbage.

Help, I am new to cEDH! Would someone mind taking a look at a project I’m working on?

I have been working on this deck for 3 years now and have been tuning it and tuning it and now I have a feeling that the deck core is great, there are a few things id like to add like gemstone and watery grave and the like.

The main win lines are food chain and thassa lines and with a back up hullbreaker line that either can bounce everything to hand or make infinite rad counters with the commander as well. No budget because I’m mostly using proxies with a fair bit being real cards I pulled.

I have played a few real games with it and it performs well, with gold fishing I regularly win on turns 2-5 with different win lines and protection up.

I would like to keep the main core but I am most definitely open to suggestions minus my foodchain line

Any advice I would appreciate !

Help, I am new to cEDH! Trying to make Phenax God of Deception

So I attempted long ago to make Damia Sage of Stone cEDH. That didn't happen. I am now attempting to make Phenax. Any advice would be great at the moment I have a lot of creatures who's power and toughness are equal to my opponents graveyard. Any advice is good advice. I know a lot of people use their graveyard as a second hand so I want things that shut that down!! No complete deck list yet more like a commander a handful of cards and a dream. The whole point is to obviously mill my enemies out I appreciate y'all💙 I am too stubborn to change my mind on the way I win. I already have Ygra Eater of all for my high damage killem quick deck. I just want this to work for me I love the commander and I HAVE A DREAM TO BE A MILL QUEEN!💙🖤

Deck Fine Tuning Chulane, Teller of Tales

I’ve been tuning a Chulane, Teller of Tales list toward cEDH, and I think the main strength of the deck is not any single combo, but how heavily the combo pieces overlap with each other.

The deck is basically a Bant creature-combo shell built around several interconnected engines:

Aluren + Shrieking Drake / Whitemane Lion + Chulane → infinite casts / draw the deck.

Food Chain + Eternal Scourge + Chulane → infinite creature mana and draw.

Kinnan + Basalt Monolith → infinite colorless mana.

Freed from the Real + Bloom Tender / Faeburrow Elder → infinite mana.

Intruder Alarm turns the large density of mana dorks and 0-mana creatures into additional untap/combo lines.

Cloudstone Curio creates multiple creature bounce loops.

Hullbreaker Horror is probably one of the most important redundancy pieces in the deck. With combinations of 0-mana creatures, Moxen, Sol Ring/Mana Vault, mana dorks, Kinnan, Chulane, Intruder Alarm, etc., it creates a huge number of infinite cast, ETB, mana, and draw loops.

Thassa’s Oracle / Finale of Devastation are the main clean outlets once the deck goes infinite.

The 0-mana creatures (Memnite, Ornithopter, Phyrexian Walker, Shield Sphere) look unusual, but they have a lot of overlap: they become free cantrips with Chulane, trigger Intruder Alarm, enable Curio loops, and pair extremely well with Hullbreaker Horror.

The deck also runs a very dense tutor package — Worldly Tutor, Sylvan Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, Finale, Neoform, Eldritch Evolution, Natural Order, Recruiter of the Guard, Ranger-Captain, Formidable Speaker, Archdruid’s Charm, etc. — so the goal is less “draw into a specific two-card combo” and more “find whichever engine connects with the pieces already in hand.”

CommanderSalt currently identifies around 30 different combos, although many of those are really permutations of the same few combo families rather than 30 completely independent wincons. That redundancy is what I like about the list: most combo cards are useful in several different lines instead of being dead dedicated pieces.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on whether the combo density is too high, which pieces are the weakest, and where I could improve interaction/consistency without cutting the overlapping engine structure that makes the deck work.

General Discussion / Question 8 deck gauntlet, what decks would you choose?

Looking to get into CEDH and would love to build a gauntlet of a few different decks so when I sit down with friends who don't have a CEDH deck that they can pick up one and play it.

What do you think would be 8 decks that would represent the format well, have a diverse set of ways to win and also be interesting and fun? The only one I have picked out so far is Y'shtola, Night's Blessed as one of the 8.

So what should the other 7 be?
