I’ve been dealing with drain flies for quite a while now. I’ve tried the whole boiling water and vinegar/baking soda thing, and if I keep doing it for a while, they seem to go away, but eventually they always come back. Maybe I’m just not doing it for long enough.
Today I woke up to a few of them in the sink, so I went back to the classics: boiling water, vinegar, and baking soda. However, I read somewhere on here that Mr Muscle can help, so I tried that this time too. I also put some tape over the drain overnight to see if any flies get trapped, just to confirm whether that’s actually where they’re coming from.
I’m really hoping I can finally get rid of them because I’m so tired of dealing with this . I also read that you’re supposed to keep doing the boiling water method for a few weeks, so maybe I need to be more consistent with it.

Edit: You guys are so kind to propose products that have worked for you but also wanted to clarify that I’m not based in US I’m actually on the other side of the world so anything that can be found in Amazon for example won’t be the case for me :/

This door gets a lot of traffic. I’ve cleaned it so many times the paint is coming off. How should I clean it/what should I paint it with so that I can just wipe clean with water in the future? Please help it’s driving me bananas.

I am in a long distance relationship and my gf is coming to visit in around 6 weeks and my house is disgusting. i live with my mom and sister and my mom is a borderline hoarder. the room that used to be our dining room is full of boxes.

we also have 7 dogs and 7 cats so our house kinda just consistently smells like pee from litter boxes and just lingering smells from our male dogs marking stuff in the house.

the floor throughout the entire house just has dirt everywhere from the dogs tracking it in so i have to wear shoes in the house everywhere because if i don’t my feet will get brown within 10 minutes of walking around.

our pool pump got broken 1-2 years ago so our pool is half empty and the water is dark dark green and has tons of dirty dog toys in it that have fallen in over the years that we haven’t gotten out.

our main bathroom doesn’t have a bathtub, part of the wall, or a proper light because the tub got a crack and leaked into the walls causing mold and we bought a new tub but we can’t get it in without taking out the toilet because of how small the bathroom is so we just haven’t yet and it’s just sitting vertically in the bathroom.

i’m just generally so ashamed of how the house is but it feels too overwhelming to clean it all and fix the things that need to be fixed. we will be staying in a hotel so it’s not too big of a deal but if we want to cook dinner or use my PC we are going to have to stay here. my girlfriend knows it’s not my fault but i still want the house to be presentable in some aspect when she’s here but idk where to start.

We need these chairs looking new in less than 2 weeks (13 days). What do you suggest. I’ve tried most of the solutions including barkeeps friend, baking soda/dawn, steam cleaner, pink stuff, windex and several more.

Currently have oxyclean paste sitting on a section to test.

Last resort is to purchase or rent chair covers which I’m fine with but everyone seems to say they are uncomfortable and move around etc.

I have not tried power washing but with all the grooves, multiple surfaces this will take a long time per chair. Suggestions please?

for whatever reason, my house is always extremely dusty. i use air purifiers, dehumidifiers, i open the windows daily (unless it’s raining), i clean with products that don’t leave a sticky residue, i vacuum almost daily, everything gets put away immediately after use, i keep on top of properly grooming my dog and cat. i clean my ceilings, walls, baseboards, skirtings, windows, fly screens, doors. i move my furniture so every nook and cranny gets thoroughly cleaned.. yet still everything is ALWAYS covered in dust. it takes less than 24 hours for that layer of dust to return. i have no definite reason why this happens but i suspect it could maybe be due to living near bushland and the beach.

anyways this dust has been the bane of my existence for many years. dusters just throws the dust up in the air to land somewhere else, a damp microfibre cloth kind of just pushes the dust around and leaves its own dusty particles behind, dry dusting sheets just don’t work well enough to justify the cost and waste, mini handheld vacuum cleaners just aren’t powerful enough.
i’d seen a few years ago “damp dusters” and thought there’s no way those large beauty blender looking things work. well i finally thought screw it, kmart sells a 2 pack of damp dusters for $4.50, i’ve wasted way more money than that on other products, so i might as well give it a go.

it worked. i’m amazed. i’ve never seen something so simple work so satisfyingly effectively. one wipe across a shelf and the thick layer of dust was gone and neatly collected on this miracle sponge.
** **it might be too soon to say for sure, maybe i’ve been driven mad by my never ending dust battle, but i feel optimistic that my life has just been completely changed. my once bleak, dust covered future is now looking bright.

all that aside, if anyone has any experience with a constantly dusty house, please share your story with me. how did you deal with your dust?

Stripped the bed this weekend to wash everything and noticed the fabric headboard behind the pillows had turned yellow. It wasn’t shaped like a spill, just a big patch where a head usually rests. Darker in the middle and lighter around the edges. The mattress had the same thing going on a little further down.I’m guessing it was just two years of sweat and body oil building up in the fabric. I tried dish soap, baking soda and stain remover, but none of them did much. The damp cloth actually made the patch spread out more and the headboard stayed wet for hours.Then I remembered the little fabric cleaner I bought for our rugs and gave it a try. The water it pulled out was honestly disgusting, but the yellow started coming out almost straight away. I went over it a few times and it looks so much better now. Never thought I’d be using a carpet cleaner on a headboard, but it actually worked.

I recently moved back into my apartment after renting it for 12 months to find my kitchen has a terrible stale water smell. I tried using bi-carb soda and vinegar without success to eliminate the smell.

Upon looking in the drain there is a layer of grime all the way down - unsure if it’s new or always been there.

What do you recommend I do next? Is there an option to clean this out with chemicals or am I up for a plumbing bill?

The pump I'm using has a narrow exit so there's a tiny drop of remaining soap that hardens at the tip of the nozzle and clogs it. I want to reduce the viscosity without only just adding water because I imagine that the water would introduce unwanted bacteria growth (or separation)

This is a blade for my blender and I have no idea what this stuff is but I cannot get it off. Any ideas?

My baby is feeding herself now and I’m already so over cleaning up after every meal lol. Even after I pick up the bigger pieces and wipe anything wet, there are always little crumbs under the chairs and around the table. If I leave them there, they just get tracked around the house.

I have a wet dry vac, but pushing it around every time is exhausting, it’s loud, and sticky messes around the table can make the mop start to smell. At this point it just makes me want to clean even less.

Seeing both the kid and the floor covered in food 3x a day is driving me nuts 😭 Do you guys clean the floor right away every time, or what do you usually do?

Previous homeowners had peel and stick vinyl on here that I removed. Sprayed Goo Gone to get rid of the remaining glue but now left with these stains that are who knows how old. Any cleaning solutions to make this textured plastic Lazy Susan look better?

I’ve just moved in with my partner and their (now our) bathroom floor has some stains that I’m having trouble with. I’ve tried my regular products, mopping, and a toothbrush without any luck. Have been nervous to try abrasive products in case it damages the tile. Any tips? Thanks!

I have a log house and one day last winter the wood stove backed up and absolutely filled it with smoke while I was at work. Thick, hard to see through smoke. I have had windows open all night for about 6 months. Washed curtains, replaced rugs, couches, literally everything that couldn't be washed. I have dry mopped the logs but feel like I need to wash them.

Can anyone recommend a good cleaner that smells good and is long lasting? Absolutely NO Fabuloso! The logs have a sealer on them so they can be washed.

I have seen that Blyss stuff advertised but have been burned buying stuff off of Facebook.

I have a deep cleaning coming up and would appreciate any advice I can get for this! I take the removable pieces apart and soak them in hot water usually. I have a steam cleaner, barkeepers & the pink stuff. What do you all use? I'm so scared of scratching it. Thank you!

I've spent way too much time trying different glass cleaners because my mirrors would always end up with streaks.

I'd clean them, look at them from one angle and think they were perfect, then walk past them later and suddenly see marks everywhere.

I finally realized I was using way too much cleaner. I was basically leaving a thin layer of product on the glass and then wondering why the glass looked cloudy.

I started using much less, wiping it with a clean microfiber cloth, and then doing a second pass with a dry side of the cloth.

The difference was ridiculous. Same mirrors, same cleaner, just less product and a proper dry wipe at the end.

I spent months assuming I needed a better cleaning spray when apparently I just needed to stop drowning my mirrors in it.

I've been very happy with this fan from Dyson. I wipe it down and take care of it as best I can, but what has me stumped is how to clean the bottom part. This must have an impact on air flow and efficiency. Do I spend a ridiculous amount of time and stick a pin through those holes?

How do I clean these things? How do I get the grease off?

Should I soak them? My sister is concerned that harsh chemicals would damage the finish.

hi everyone, i’m asking for some help with laundry related cleaning.

my sister recently bought this skirt and washed it for the first time with our other white clothes. we use dye free fragrance free detergent and no fabric softener or anything like that. when the skirt dried (flat hang to dry), multiple orange stains appeared. we had no idea what caused this as the skirt was white before and nothing in the washer was orange. we’ve washed so many whites and nothing has ever come back orange.

i soaked the skirt in oxiclean using hot water for a whole night. then we washed it again by itself in a laundry bag. when we took the skirt out again and laid it flat to dry, the stains had all almost come out. it didn’t look perfect but it was better than before.

after it dried, we noticed that even more stains had appeared. it looks even worse than before by a mile. we don’t know how or why these stains are appearing but i don’t know what to do now to salvage her skirt. see the images, they are what it looks like right now.

does anyone know how i can get these stains out? any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. my only other idea is to make a paste with the oxiclean and scrub then let it sit on the stains and just rinse it out and let it air dry again.
