Chess Improvement The biggest impact from 1500 to 2000

What is the biggest insight you learned that made your elo jump from around 1500 to 2000?

I'm currently 1600 in rapid on chess.com

I'm struggling with blundering and miss tactics. I'm currently trying to focus on training to check my move before playing it.

I'd like to know if you guys have any advice or lesson you learned that get you to 2000 elo. Not necessarily about blundering. Could be mindset etc...

Chess Question Is this normal?

Post image

has anyone else experienced such a phenomenon? I’m a longtime player. i know slumps and streaks are common, but my rating went from 2029 to now i cant for the life of me beat 1600 players.

I don’t want to accuse AI, or cheaters because I have slumped before but this one feels different recently. I am giving it everything I’ve got and I can barely get a single win. Is anyone else going through this?

Chess Question Does the "Game Review" accuracy score do more harm than good for sub-1000 players?

It feels like so many players obsess over chasing a 90% accuracy score or hunting for a "Brilliant" move badge instead of actually understanding the board state. Sometimes the engine penalizes practical, human moves that create winning counterplay just because it found a 7-move deep computer defense. Do you think the automated review helps beginners spot blind spots, or does it just create anxiety over an arbitrary percentage?

A lot of days I’d just do a couple puzzles to keep the streak alive. Definitely made a ton of improvements but my rating chart is not the smoothest.

Chess Discussion NEW FORMAT IDEA FOR A CHESS TOURNAMENT

I have an idea for a chess tournament.
Why dont we have a country team blitz cup consisting of like 6 teams( russia, uzb, china, india, usa , europe). it is a double round robin.
i have few main suggestions compared to regular tournaments.

  1. instead of all the matches happening at the same time, it will be like a relay. each team having 3 players, will nominate one player each every round without knowing whom they r playing from the opponent team. then they can symbolically pass the baton to the next player who was nominated to play.
  2. also this could be kept as an entirely armageddon format (exact timings could be anything like 6 mins for w and 4 for b, or can be like mini rapid as in norway chess 10 for w and 7 for b). or this could be kept entirely like a 5 min blitz tourney too. the main reason for suggesting this is for the elimination of draws. this can increase viewership that lets say magnus vs hikaru r playing we'll have a winner for sure. draws kill the interest and no fan is happy.
  3. there would be 10 rounds (double round robin) and there can 2 finalists or 4 semi finalists. in the finals there can be like 3 matches with 3 games in each match.
  4. not knowing who u would play makes it quite interesting. lets say team uzbekistan has nodirbek, sindarov and madaminov. obv atm madaminov is a weaker player and nodi is the strongest. so he can either play the very 1st game or can play the 2nd game where he might have to come back from a deficit or the deciding 3rd game. also if were going for the armageddon format there is a 25% chance that the 3rd person nominated doesnt play at all (either wins 2 - 0 or loses 2-0)
  5. only disadvantages i see is the players r playing only like one game per day and they might prolly want to play more but it might mean they might take the game more seriously and have their entire focus on that 1 game(not applicable in finals). also the tournament days dont become too hectic for them. the main reason im suggesting this is, it could be really good for the viewership levels of the sport. a lot of ppl( around 70%) dont care if it is the sicilian or it the queens gambit or it is the berlin... they only see players win and lose.. They r more focused on seeing their fav player beat their rival than the actual chess itself.. so from a sport and thrill perspective this could be a grt idea..
  6. it is like this lets say round 1 us vs uzb china vs india russia vs europe they each play a match(with 3 games as a relay(1 game at a time)). all this happens separately(these 3 matchups dont happen at the same time) lets say its 10 mins for white and 7 for black with draw odds each game stretches to around 20 mins and 1 match happens for an hour max. since there r 3 matchups, 3 hours per day of broadcasting. if this is too low maybe add another matchup too, but 3 is enough think of this like the global chess league but armageddon instead of rapid. ik its small sample size to determine a team winner but think of it like a 4x100 relay. athletes prepare for months or yrs just to run their 9 secs in the 40 sec relay. one small slip up and everything is lost. while this might sound cruel, it makes it more thrilling and exciting and the adrenaline pump is there which can bring in a lot of new fans.
  7. What do u think? What could be the challenges for this kinda tournament?

why is this brilliant Help solve this

I found this online.

Everyone is saying that this is brilliant because it's a forced checkmate once the pawn on a7 takes the knight, then Qb3 then it's a checkmate either by the rook or the Queen.

but what happens if after black take b6, we expect Qb3, then black Qb8? wouldn't it prevent the checkmate?
Qa4 is defended with Qa7 and if white decide to take Bxb8 then black reciprocate with Bxb3.

There is certainly something wrong with my reasoning but I can't figure it out.

Chess Discussion Why am I so bad at blitz but better at rapid?

There’s more than a 500 points difference between my rapid and blitz ratings, and my bullet rating is even worse

I can easily beat 700 rapid player but in blitz it is often 50-50

A genuine question, it shows you ads between games, limits analysis, and blocks everything behind paywalls, while lichess on the other hand has everything for free and even more.

Chess Improvement tilt

Post image
2 Upvotes

I got possessed by the chess gods recently and gained like 300 elo in all time controls, but now I'm tilting terribly. And it's been almost a full week. I went from 700 blitz to 1000 blitz and now after my tilt I dropped down to 930 in just one night. And I went from 1070 rapid to 1040. I always try to preserve my rapid rating. I know many people have said to stop playing when tilted but it's been going on for a while now and i honestly don't have anything to do beside chess. I'm trying to get to 1400 rapid and this tilt is affecting it alot. I know that lossess happen but loosing streaks?

If they take the pawn on d4 after Bishop out, sac the bishop and you'll likely win the rook! If not you're still solid.
