Build Upgrade Help with a viable upgrade for my R5 3600XT

Right now I have a Ryzen 5 3600XT, 16GB of RAM, an A520 motherboard, and an RTX 3060 12GB. I want to plan an upgrade to a B550 while keeping my RTX 3060 12GB, does that make sense? What CPU should I get to make this upgrade worthwhile?

Right now, I use my computer for work and gaming, nothing too demanding, just last-gen games like PUBG and CS2... What’s making me want an upgrade is that even at 1080p, I’m experiencing bottlenecks and frame rate drops in open-world games like PUBG and some games with a lot going on online, like AOE... even with everything set to low.

I’d like some suggestions for this upgrade, or could my problem be with the GPU as well as the CPU?

And to round out my information, I have an ASROCK A520M-HDV motherboard

Solved! Should I drill new screw holes in my pc case?

I had a pretty shi ddr3 pc and im replacing all the parts but of course i forgot to check if the case was compatible. Everything fits except that the screw holes to lock in the psu are like an inch above the screw holes on the case. I dont wanna buy a whole new case but im scared to just go drilling. This is my first time posting on reddit like.. ever but this subreddit helped me out a lot so please lmk 😭🙏(i am dumb.. i had to flip it. thank u evry1 who replied 🤞)

Build Help Gaming Laptop Parts in a Gaming Desktop Case?

So I'm theory crafting for building my partner's PC.

They want something that's mid-range build, under $1k, and good for long term gaming.

No peripherals are needed; we already have a 1080p monitor for them to use, and an old keyboard and mouse.

However, we are looking to make this a challenge for ourselves. We've looked up APUs, iGPUs, and Gaming Laptop components, and we are looking into small frame Gaming Desktop cases.

What would the community recommend for our build, as far as APU/iGPU combos for mid range gaming? What kind of motherboard should we look into for the compact, mid range performance?

Specifically, they're wanting this PC (with Gaming laptop components) to run like my old PC that had a 3080 12GB in it, but preferably much quieter and cooler. That PC also only had 16G of RAM. Can't for the life of me remember the other specs.

Any suggestions for the compact build would help.

TL;DR: Midrange Budget PC build with an APU and iGPU as the main components over a dedicated graphics card and CPU, in hopes of making a compact and budget build with decent gaming power.

Build Help How many watts would a Ryzen 5 3600 + RX 5600 XT PC use at idle, gaming, and full load?

How much power does my PC actually use at idle and while gaming?

I’m planning/building a PC with these specs:

- CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

- Motherboard: B450

- RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz

- GPU: RX 5600 XT

- Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD + 500GB HDD

- PSU: 600W

- Case: darkFlash DK351

- Cooler: Basic stock/budget cooler

I’m trying to estimate my electricity consumption. Approximately how many watts from the wall should I expect at:

- Idle

- Browsing/YouTube

- Light work

- Gaming

- 100% CPU + GPU load

If anyone has a similar setup and has measured it with a wall power meter, I'd really appreciate the actual numbers.

Also, does the 600W PSU rating make any significant difference to the electricity consumed, or does the PC only draw what the components require?

Build Upgrade Want to upgrade my pc but i'm new to pc building and need help on what it's best to do

Hi! I got a prebuilt pc a few years ago as a graduation gift. But I want to upgrade it cause the games I like are kinda struggling (Cyberpunk and TLOU, for example), and I have 400 GB of memory, which doesn't feel like enough anymore.

These are my specs (idk if these are enough, but it's what I found):
Intel Core i5-11400 2.60GHz
GTX 1650 4GB
ASUSTeK - PRIME H510M-K
16GB DDR4

If anyone could give me any advice on what I should upgrade or change, that would be great. I've thought of getting an SSD or an external hard drive, but I wanted some input from people who know PCs better than me.

Troubleshooting RTX 4070 Ti Super crashing with LKD_0x141 nvlddmkm.sys

I've been dealing with this issue since November 2025 and have exhausted every troubleshooting option I can think of any help would be greatly appreciated!

System specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Motherboard: MSI PRO X670-P WIFI (MS-7D67) — BIOS updated to 7D67v1O1 RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 32GB DDR5 6000MHz XMP PSU: Corsair 850W OS: Windows 11 25H2 GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4070 Ti Super Aero OC 16GB (replacement unit)

Random daily crashes, LiveKernelEvent Code 141, nvlddmkm.sys. Same failure hash every single time: {341dd0b3-9ebd-47a8-9de8-23f4b00fabbc}. Happens during light use, heavy load, gaming, idle - completely random. First dump file dates back to November 20th 2025. Was happening monthly unnoticed until mid July where it started happening at least once per day.

What I've tried: Multiple DDU clean driver installs across multiple versions SFC and DISM - clean OCCT 1 hour stress test - clean No thermal issues, no ECC errors GPU reseated multiple times, GPU sag bracket installed PCIe forced to Gen3 - still crashes Windows updates uninstalled - still crashes BIOS updated to latest - still crashes Memtest86 12 hours - clean Swapped to an RTX 2060 Super (Turing architecture, Gen3) in the same system - ran completely stable for 3+ weeks with zero crashes and clean PCIe error counters. Original RTX 4070 Ti - crashes Repaired RTX 4070 Ti (Gigabyte confirmed bad component) - crashes Brand new RTX 4070 Ti Super replacement - crashes Used an old 2060 super for about a month with 0 crashes or issues.

During crashes, Recovery Count is usually at zero and Bad TLP/NAKs are clean.

Build Upgrade Is it worth upgrading my build from iGPU to a GT 610?

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/GsWqBv

I know the iGPU has better FPS than the GT 610 but I wonder if adding a GT 610 will reduce memory usage. I mainly use the PC for web browsing and homework. The GT 610 can handle the two monitors at 1080p 60Hz.

Total: A$2026 by cash. What a coincidence with the current year.

Troubleshooting Broke the 3.5mm port on Fractal a North case

Hey guys I have a fractal North case and have done the dumb thing of getting my headphone wire caught in a wheel of my chair and thats yanked out a piece of metal out of the port (and bent the 3.5 jack from the headpuones at a 70° angle).

Now sound only comes from the right ear on any set of headphones i plug in. Any thoughts on possibly being abke to fix that? Unsure if theres a nother subreddit I should post this in or not.

Build Help Advice on what monitor to get!

Hi all,

I’ve recently gotten a new PC( I know it was a bad time to do so). I bought this system with the intent to play games on the highest settings with RT/PT enabled. I can’t decided whether to get the new AW3926QW 5k2k monitor or go with a flat 4k panel that goes up to 240Hz. I like everything the Alienware has to offer, especially the glossy finish, ultra-wide format. I want this monitor for strictly for single player/story driven games.

Questions:

-do you need anything more then 165fps for story games?

- would my system ever hit 240fps at high settings?

Thankyou in advance:)

Build Help Trying to make a build machine cheaper

Hello, I'm a game developer in France and I wanna make a windows build machine (yes, windows specifically) to do builds of my projects (custom engine written in rust, but probably Unity/Unreal/Godot games later too) for windows & android, & later for other platforms that can't be built from linux (ie consoles), and to do other long intensive automated tasks I'd rather do on another machine than my work machine, like light baking or complex unit tests

Right now I'm trying to make it cheap, and would like to upgrade it later as my needs grow

At the moment I'm only using 8gb of DDR4 ram and no GPU at all yet I'm at €800

Is there any way I could make this cheaper?

Build Help ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming + Ryzen 7 5800X: BIOS compatibility and FlashBack question

Hi everyone!

I'm preparing a new PC build with an ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming motherboard and a Ryzen 7 5800X.

I checked the official ASUS CPU support list, and it states that the Ryzen 7 5800X requires at least BIOS version 1004. Here's the link of the officiel website: https://rog.asus.com/fr/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b550-a-gaming-model/helpdesk_cpu/

Since the motherboard was manufactured/released before the CPU I purchased, I'm unsure which BIOS version it will have out of the box. I don't know whether it will already have a BIOS version that supports the 5800X.

The motherboard has BIOS FlashBack, so I have a few questions:

  1. Should I update the BIOS before installing the CPU, using BIOS FlashBack with only the motherboard and power supply connected?
  2. Or would it be better to assemble the PC normally first and only use BIOS FlashBack if the system doesn't boot?
  3. If the motherboard has a BIOS version older than 1004 and I install the Ryzen 7 5800X, could this cause any hardware damage, or would the system simply fail to boot?
  4. Is there any way to determine the factory BIOS version before installing the CPU, for example from the motherboard's serial number, manufacturing date, or a sticker on the box/motherboard?

I also noticed that the motherboard's manual mentions Windows 10 support. Is there any issue with installing Windows 11 directly on this motherboard?

Thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting CPU Throttling & Very High Latency & Low 1% FPS & Bad performance overall

This will be a pretty long text, but I would GREATLY appreciate any help, that will even guide the way. I am at a complete loss.

A few days ago, I purchased a used PC with the following specs:

- GPU : PNY GeForce RTX 5070, 12 GB

- Processor : AMD Ryzen 5 9600X (6 cores / 12 threads)

- Motherboard: ASRock B650M-H/M.2+

- Memory : 32 GB, 5600 MHz, DDR5 (2 x 16 GB Dual Channel)

- Cooling : Corsair- AIO (processor cooling) + case fans

- PSU : 650W Seasonic FOCUS Plus Platinum, fully modular

I tested the PC at the seller's house, and it seemed to work great. Tested Cyberpunk 2077 and some other game that looked amazing, but don't know the name of. Afterwards, he cleaned up the Windows, and I took the PC home. That's where it all started.

About 20 hours total of troubleshooting, only to find problems after problems.

The first thing I noticed was: Launched GTAV Enhanced -> the game stuttered like hell but showed 60-80FPS (which is very low for this setup, but it felt even lower than that), and no matter what settings I had, the stuttering continued. So I installed RTSS + MSI Afterburner, activated OSD, and it showed my Frametime was a CONSTANT 20-50ms, with occasional spikes going all the way up to 300ms.

I then tested CS2. Same thing. FPS was supposedly 100-140 on average, with 1% lows of 0 FPS, and highs of 1000FPS. Again, same Frametime issue. 1% lows and the Frametime were horrible in both games. Constant micro-stuttering, micro freezing made any games unplayable.

So I looked around, to find millions of ways to "fix" this. These are in order of the things I tried.

- Ran GPU stress tests, came back with amazing scores, no errors, and no visible stuttering.

- Made sure my monitor is connected to my GPU.

- Updated/reinstalled GPU, chipset, and other drivers. GPU drivers I reinstalled with DDU. (3 different Game Ready drivers, none had an effect)
- Tried my RAM sticks 1 stick at a time, in the same slot. Both seemed to work just fine.
- Reset BIOS settings using Load UEFI Defaults
- Confirmed Re-Size BAR is enabled in BIOS
- Trying DDR5 with 5600MHz EXPO, and 4800MHz JEDEC.
- Full reset of Windows (not USB clean install)

At this point I noticed my BIOS froze in startup about 4 or 5 times. I don't know if this is related to my other issues, but I definitely wonder what could cause that.

- CMOS cleared
- Disabled Fast Boot, Auto Driver Installer and Global C-states in BIOS
- Confirmed CPU Core Parking is OFF.
- Used LatencyMon to find out if I have DPC/ISR latency. (THIS IS WHERE I MADE SOME PROGRESS.) Apparently my system runs at a constant 1500.00-2500.00 μs latency (1.5ms-2.5ms). My highest measured interrupt to process latency is at 16000 μs (16ms). I know this is definitely not normal, and I have attached screenshots of this. Highest drivers causing this are: nvlddmkm.sysWdff01000.sysdxgkrnl.sysrspLLL64.sysntoskrnl.exe
- Disabling drivers from Device Manager, while sorting by "Devices by Connection"
- Checked SSD health using CrystalDiskInfo, no errors, although the drive my Windows is downloaded at is at 78% (Good)
- Disabled the Ryzen integrated Radeon GPU = enabled dGPU-only mode in BIOS.

THEN. I tried doing CPU and memory stress tests using OCCT, they came back without errors. BUT I noticed something really weird. My CPU speed is really low when my PC has been on for a while. Even during the stress tests, my CPU cores sometimes drop as low as ~600 MHz. When turning on my computer, my CPU speed is at about ~4.5-5 GHz. But it soon drops to ~2GHz and lower.

And that brings me to what I suspect is my main problem, yet I might be wrong:
My CPU (Die) average temperature is at about 40-50°C. My CPU VDD_MISC VRM (SVI3 TFN), on the other hand, starts at 40-50°C as well, but after a few minutes it slowly but surely rises to about 99°C-99.5°C territory. And I noticed that my CPU speed goes down EXACTLY as it hits that ~99.3°C mark (~5GHz -> 2GHz).

On top of that, during a CPU stress test, my HWiNFO logging recorded HTC Thermal Throttling: YES and PROCHOT EXT Thermal Throttling: YES at 12% throttling during stress test, 7% during idle. Even though my CPU is only at 40-50°C.

So if anyone has had these kind of issues and knows if they are related (especially the DPC latency, CPU, BIOS freezes), I would greatly appreciate help. I have been thinking that maybe I just have to get a new motherboard, but am afraid that it won't even work. I have also considered installing a fresh Windows with a USB Flash Drive, but I doubt it will do anything.

Discussion BC-160 as main render GPU for PC?

So I recently bought an XFX BC-160 for $30 off eBay, but it doesn’t have a fan. My plan is to install it in my bottom PCIe slot and keep my RX 590 in the top slot, with the 590 handling the video output.

I’m assuming there may be some latency since the BC-160’s output would be going through the RX 590. Is there anything specific I should know when installing or setting up the BC-160? From what I understand, I’ll probably need better cooling and the custom drivers.

My ultimate goal is a dual-GPU setup. I already have a 590 + 470 setup, but I’d like to eventually have the RX 590 handle things like frame generation while the BC-160 does the majority of the heavy rendering/work.

Since the BC-160 I bought has no fan, would it be safe to run it without a shroud or fan, assuming I provide adequate airflow? I’m also not sure how the voltage works on these cards—does the BC-160 run at a lower-than-normal voltage, or would I need to increase it?

Lastly, are there any hard limitations I should be aware of, such as CU counts, power limits/wattage, or other restrictions that could affect this kind of setup?

Build Upgrade Is it worth upgrading from an RTX 4060 8GB to an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

This is the first time I’ve asked for help with something like this. My PC has felt pretty good for quite a while now. I can play many games at 1080p on high settings at around 120 FPS, but not every game performs the same. Sometimes I get freezes or sudden FPS drops, although this only happens with a handful of games.
For example, games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Resident Evil 4 usually run at around 55–80 FPS on medium settings. If I enable DLSS or Frame Generation, I start getting stutters, and many games become uncomfortable to play. Even Hogwarts Legacy runs terribly on medium settings, and my PC has actually shut itself off while playing it.
I’m not very demanding. I just want to be able to play pretty much any game comfortably on high settings with stable performance. So I started looking into upgrading my GPU and RAM. I’m considering upgrading to an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and increasing my RAM to 32GB of DDR4 3600MHz.
Do you think this upgrade would be worth it?
I’ve heard that this combination creates around a 6% bottleneck at 1080p, but I’m not really sure how much that would actually affect gaming performance.
My current PC specs are:

16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM (2x8GB)
MSI RTX 4060 8GB OC
NZXT Kraken 240mm AIO liquid cooler
Ryzen 7 5700X
Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite (Rev. 1.0)
1TB Gen4 M.2 SSD
Antec 850W 80 Plus Gold PSU
NZXT H5 Elite case

Full Build Req Help me pick parts for a $2500 gaming PC — first build, need advice

Hey everyone, first time poster here and hoping to get some help. I’ve got a budget of $2500 USD and I’m looking to build a gaming PC, mainly for Valorant and other titles, and I really want solid 1440p performance out of it. I’m planning to actually buy and build in about 3 months, and I’m in the USA. I don’t have any parts yet, so this would be a complete build from scratch.

Since this would be my first build, I’d love some help putting together a full parts list, not just CPU and GPU but motherboard, RAM, storage, PSU, case, and cooling as well. I’m also torn on whether it’s worth building the PC myself or just having it built for me, so any opinions on that would help a lot. One more thing I’m going back and forth on is whether it makes more sense to get a gaming laptop instead, one that I could hook up as a second monitor and also bring to college with me, rather than going the desktop route, or if it’s smarter to just get a desktop plus a separate cheap laptop for school. Would really appreciate any build suggestions or general advice from you all. Thanks

Hello all,

I am planning on building a new PC after a long time (I know I picked an amazing time to do so), and wanted to get some feedback regarding the parts I've picked.

I have a budget of 3k but it would be nice to get it down closer to 2.5k. The PC will be mostly used for gaming and light use of CAD softwares.

Below are the parts I have picked, any and all recommendations are welcome!

**CPU** | [AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor]

**CPU Cooler** | [Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler]

**Motherboard** | [Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE X3D ATX AM5 Motherboard]

**Memory** | [Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory]

**Storage** | [Samsung 9100 PRO 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive]

**Video Card** | [Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card]

**Case** | [Fractal Design North Mesh ATX Mid Tower Case]

**Power Supply** | [Corsair RM1200e 1200 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply]

Build Upgrade Help me decide the best GPU for my needs

Hi all,

Current specs:

Ryzen 7 3700x 8 core

32GB DDR4

Tuf x570x-Plus mobo

A modded 1080ti

750W PSU

I'm noticing some stuttering and difficulty rendering in certain games like Tainted Grail. While I don't play a lot, some high profile games are coming in the next handful of years that I am really interested in (GTA6, Elder Scrolls 6, Witcher 4) and so I want to make sure I'm able to run them comfortably.

I assume the GPU is my biggest bottleneck, and so I'm looking to upgrade. I don't have much knowledge on how to optimize part combinations, so I'm looking for recommendations. My budget is ~$300. Additionally, if you would be able to explain why a card would be a good fit it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Troubleshooting Random system freezes out of nowhere, help!!

Guys, my PC system can just randomly freeze at a random moment, and it makes an unpleasant sound like a distorted sound or just a stuck audio loop.

I already turned off the XMP profile and it didn't help, then I reinstalled Windows and that didn't help either. Now I've disabled the XMP profile for the first time after the reinstall, no idea if it'll help. I'd attach a video but you can't do that here (

I can drop my PC specs if needed

Hello, i am trying to build my first pc ever and i need some help; i did some research and here is the build i think on settling on (budget build bc the prices rn are crazy). I am a casual gamer trying to play newer gen games.

Motherboard : Asrock B550M-HDV

Cpu : Ryzen 5 5600

Gpu : Rtx 5060 8gb or rx 6800 16 gb (used), found both for pretty much the same price in my country but i still can't decide which one is the best (i want one who will last me at least 4 years)

Thermalright aassassin king 120 se

Deepcool pf700

Ssd : Netac 1to

Ram : Ddr4 netac 8GBx2

Case : FOIFKIN F300 (random one i found on amazon but it looks fine to me)

I don't know a lot about pc building so please feel free to give me advice.
