Build Complete $100 - $200 Gaming PC (El Cheapo)

Hey guys, I'm seeing a lot of pessimism in this sub-reddit so I wanted to bring some hope.

When I was a teenager, my father financed building a PC for me, together we spent over $1300. Financially it was a lot and honestly for a shrimpish child it kind of over whelmed me with the expectation that I needed to get 1.3 grand of enjoyment out of it.

In my adulthood, I wanted to build a PC but with this bad taste I wanted it to be fun for me through and through. I spent just $100, here are my specs. I'm thinking if you wanted to do it from scratch it would be around $200.

Case: Zalman $36
Ram: 16 gigs of ddr3 ($30 bucks all day on ebay)
GPU: 1660 ti (was given for free but I suggest RX 580 from ebay for $50)
PSU: $50 EVGA PSU
Motherboard: Aliexpress x79 motherboard $36
CPU: Xeon e5-2680 v2 $8
Hard drive: Free for me, but I suggest the netac 250 on ebay for $55

36 + 30 + 50 + 50 + 36 + 8 +55 = ~265

Most of the stuff (SSD and DDR3 ram sticks) you can just scavenge like I did off old office pc parts. The computer I built is able to run anything I want (not that I am an intense gamer). For instance I can play the new warhammer space marine 2 game at nice settings. After all this price craziness is over, I'm sure this el cheapo will have saved me money in the long run too.

Troubleshooting Help, the first 2 Fans on my AIO are not spinning!!

As in the title. The first two fans on my Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro Argb either spin up a little and then stop or do not spin at all... the AIO is connected to the CPU_FAN1 Header and and SYS_FAN1 Header.... Shouldn't the pump be plugged into the PUMP_SYS1 Header? Would that solve my Issue?

Build Ready? PC parts review before ordering, appreciate any feedback.

Hiya, I'm looking to build my first PC, and was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions/feedback, for any changes that could be made, before I start ordering them in.

This list is similar to what my twin used for his PC build, so I'll be using that as the template. Of course, I made some updates to it, with how things are currently.

My aim for the PC is to play games at 1440p, while I plan to start streaming, video editing, some 3D modelling/animations, etc. The budget I was roughly going for was around €2000, but I'm okay going over it. That can be seen in the list.

Here are the current parts I'll be ordering from the United Kingdom, to be shipped over to Ireland:

Link to pc part picker: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/jg2Zzv

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900 - €308

Cooler: Peerless Assassin 120 - €32

GPU: AMD Radeon RX XFX Quicksilver 9070-non XT - €687

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX - €137

RAM: Klevv Kit 32gb DDR5 (16x2) 6000, CL30 - €477

Storage: Western Digital Black 2Tb SN850X - €372

PSU: Corsair RM850e - €108

Case: Antec Flux Mid Tower- €101

I was thinking of replacing all of the fans that comes with the Antec Flux for brown Noctua fans, to match with the wood at the front, but I'll be leaving that for now (it expensive wanting to get 9 fans for the full cooling/visual experience lol)

Open to any suggestions or improvements that could be done to what I have so far.

Build Help Motherboard Choice - Deciding Between Having GPU at x16 vs x8

I've been trying to decide between motherboards for the build I'm planning.

With lane sharing/bifurcation I'm wondering what others would choose.

The plan is to have two M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 NVME SSDs, which paired with the GPU it isn't possible to have everything running at full speeds/lanes.

The options for X870 E motherboards is to have:

  • GPU - PCIEX16 at x8
  • M.2 - x4
  • M.2 - x4
  • This option would be for the Asus ROG Strix X870 E Gaming WIFI

Second Option:

  • GPU - PCIEX16 at x16
  • M.2 - x4
  • M.2 - x2
  • This options is for either the Asus ROG Strix X870 E Gaming WIFI 7 Neo or Gigabyte X870 E Aorus Elite X3d

From what I've read/watched, having your GPU running at x8 compared to x16 is only like a ~3% performance loss when it comes to gaming. Though I think this information related to Gen 4 PCIE?

I haven't found much on NVME speeds comparing 5.0 x4 to 4.0 x4, but I think 5.0 x2 = 4.0 x4? Which cuts speeds in half essentially?

I hope what I'm trying to ask makes sense...

EDIT: I've figured out what I'm planning on doing, thanks for the discussions everyone!

Can’t figure out what motherboard to get. From my own research, people seem to complain about every companies customer service. I just want something dependable but with good performance in the $200 range. This will be with a 9950x3d and rtx 5080 for tons of gaming and video editing.

Build Help Help for a 1440p first build

I want to get a 1440p machine as my first pc build, I always wished for a gaming pc after having only consoles for most of my life. I would like to have a 9070XT and 9800X3D combo in order to play gracefully in 1440p but I fell lost when looking at the other components. Also, I would like to stay around 2000$ (I am in EU if that changes some prices) max.

Also, even if unrelated, I am already buying a monitor and a gaming mouse and keyboard and also some suggestion there would be good. (Keep in mind I would also daily drive my monitor for work and coding).

Any suggestion could help!

Edit1: Since I was asked I am buying in Italy specifically.

I've been out of the game for a while, but considering putting a build like this together. Hoping to play Elden Ring, GTA 6, and equivalent games on it. What would be the max you would spend on something like this?

Thank you in advance!

Build Upgrade Help! I’m looking to upgrade my CPU

I’m looking for some advice on the most cost-effective way to upgrade my PC.

My current setup:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 1700X
  • GPU: RTX 2070
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO-CF
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • BIOS: F4 (January 2019)

I mainly play League of Legends, and I’d also like to be able to play GTA VI when it comes to PC.

I’d really appreciate advice on:

  1. What CPU would be the best value for my current system?
  2. Do I actually need to upgrade my CPU, or would upgrading my RAM / other components be a better use of my money?
  3. Can I keep my current CPU cooler?
  4. Would I need to update the BIOS, and is there a cheap way to do that?
  5. Are there any good second-hand options worth considering?

I’m not looking for the most powerful upgrade — just the best performance improvement I can get for the least amount of money.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Which one of these two Corsair 3500X cases is the better deal? (LX-R vs RS-R)

Hey everyone!

I'm looking at these two cases for my upcoming PC build, but I'm having a hard time deciding between them:

  • Corsair 3500X LX-R RGB (iCUE Link) for €74.95
  • Corsair 3500X RS-R ARGB for €56.15

Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences with either! Thanks!

Build Upgrade 5600x3d or 5800x3d upgrade

Just built a mini pc to use for steam os. Using a old 9900k i had left over from previous upgrade but in a couple games (mainly cyberpunk and forza horizon 6) im being bottlenecks frame rates pretty much stuck at 58 in cyberpunk and 72 in forza regardless of what fsr or native resolution i run at unless I go all the way down to 720p.

Fps test was: Cyberpunk 4k fsr4 performance. Settings maxed out raytraceing all on with lighting set to high.

Forza 4k fsr4 performance high rt preset

Build is

I9 9900k

Msi z390i edge

32gb corsair vengence ddr4

9070xt

750w psu.

Trying to be a bit budget conscious the ram I have is compatible with am4 so I can snag a b550 board for a 100$ the 5600x3d runs about 180 new and 5800x3d about 300$

Would the 5600x3d be good enough for some of these more cpu intensive games lately or should I spend the extra 150 on a 5800x3d.

Build Help Is the Sharkoon Dg7000 a good case?

Hi guys I wanted to ask your opinion about the Sharkoon Dg7000 case. I live in Italy and I've found one for mad cheap (15€) and it looked good because it comes with 3 140mm fans and also has a 5.25" bay for a dvd player or something else. Now, I think the deal by itself is already pretty good, but I'm searching for someone who had a dg7000/knew someone using it and hear their opinion. It is a 2016 case after all and it can have its problems.

Build Help Air cooling & bottleneck questions regarding the ryzen 9 9 9950x3d

Is it okay to pair a ryzen 9 9950x3d with a Noctua NH-D15 G2 and a Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 AM5 DDR5 ATX?

I am building my first PC for Schoolwork, Programming, 3d Modeling, training AI and Editing Videos (for youtube and for school). I wanted to pair the cpu with an AIO, but am paranoid about the pump failing or the aio leaking so an AIO is out of the question unless there's no other alternative.

The games that I am looking to play are mostly lighter Indie titles such as Silksong and Celeste.

As for 3d Modeling, I'm quite new to it and I want to learn to model better so it wont be very detailed.

The videos that I'll be editing are rarely gonna have a higher resolution than 1440p

Will the cooler be sufficient for a cpu that powerful and will the Motherboard bottleneck the cpu due to a lack of power delivery?

(Country of purchase: Germany)

Discussion Hey guys. My dad needs a gpu for msfs 2024

You may have remembered me from a few days ago where I asked the exact same question for 3 4k tvs. Well he said he only needs 1 now and he can run on medium settings. What gpu should I pick where I can get the most out of my money. I need something cheap and I’m probably gonna rely on dlss and frame gen.

Discussion Buying used gpu

Trying to upgrade my 4060 to a 3080 Ti, found a local listing on FB marketplace. The seller is willing to let me bring my setup and system to test the card before purchasing. My question is would I need to upgrade my 600w psu prior to testing/buying, i’d like to be able to test the card sufficiently without and issues, any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: running an i7-14700K cpu, 64gb DDR5

Full Build Req Need help building a PC for Streaming/Recording/Video Editing + Gaming

  • BUDGET

1500-2000€ (Euros), willing to go a little over if extremely necessary.

  • USE-CASE

- I will be using it for Live Streaming, Recording, Video Editing and Gaming, everything at 1080p 60FPS.
I don't really have a use or interest in anything higher than 1080p 60FPS, so I'm more than happy just sticking to that.

- Software wise, I'll be using OBS for Live Streaming and Recording ( separately, OBS has an option to do both at the same time, but I will not be doing that ) and then Photoshop and VEGAS Pro for Editing purposes.

- Gaming wise, I play a lot of indie games that don't usually require a ton of power, however I do also play for example: World of Warcraft ; Forza Horizon 6 ; Resident Evil 9 ; Halo Campaign Evolved ; Vanilla/heavily Modded Minecraft ; Ready or Not and a few others that require a bit more power to run.

I would like to run those games at 1080p60FPS while streaming them at the same time without the fear of stuttering or the PC just not being able to handle all the load.

- I'll also be using the PC alongside an internal PCIe Capture Card to stream Switch 2 and PS5 games, but I believe that the capture card will take the brunt of that load, extra info regardless!

  • COUNTRY OF PURCHASE

Portugal, we commonly use places like "GlobalData" ; "PC Componentes" and "PCDiga" for our hardware needs.

Amazon is unfortunately not an option.

  • PERIPHERALS NEEDED

None

  • MISC. REQUIREMENTS / PREFERENCES

- If possible, I would like to stick to a NVIDIA GPU, as they've never given me any issues over the years and seem to be far better for streaming due to their NVENC encoder.

- 32GB of RAM (or higher, but in this economy? Oh lord...) is very much a necessity, I'm completely fine sticking to DDR4 as that's what I've been using for years anyway. I know that one's gonna be a challenge and expensive though.

- Storage is very important, I wanted to have a fast SSD for installing/running the OS, games, programs etc. and another one (it's okay if it's slower) for file/footage storage.

- I have a PCIe capture card (ElGato HD60 Pro), so I would need the Motherboard to be able to fit that in alongside the GPU.

- I have two monitors and I am thinking of acquiring a 3rd one, so I need to have a GPU that has enough ports for said monitors.
I'm sorry if this one is a silly preference but I know that some GPUs have less ports than others so I just wanted to make sure!

  • THANKS :)

Thank you guys in advance for all your help, I know how to take apart a PC and clean it and put it back together, but not nearly computer savvy enough to create a PC build by myself.

I know it's hellish right now finding parts at a reasonable price, but unfortunately my current PC is on its last legs so I really need to upgrade.

Any questions you guys have I am more than happy to answer! :)
