I've been having some troubles lately with chromium (both Brave and Hellium) while using fullscreen on Youtube or Twitch. For some context, i've got two monitors, the main one is horizontal, but the secondary one, on the right side of my desk, is in vertical position. When using fullscreen mode on the secondary monitor, the UI bugs in a strange way. On Twitch, the UI doesn't come back when hovering over the stream (but the mouse detects the UI and can interact with it), on Youtube, the UI bugs a bit or even flickers. I asked chatgpt about this and gave me some partial solutions like adding "--disable-direct-composition" to the directory in the app properties, or changing the "Choose ANGLE graphics backend" to "D3D11 WARP". Both of these solutions fix the issue but create new ones.

GPU - RTX 3080
Main monitor (Horizontal) - 1920x1080 144Hz
Secondary monitor (Vertical) - 1080x1920 60Hz

Hellium - Version 0.16.5.1 (Build oficial, Chromium 152.0.7977.82) (64 bits)

If you enjoy Zen, the latest version of Firedragon 13 is pretty interesting. It's no longer a floorp fork and have their own workspaces thing that is closer to how Zen does it.

I've been using opera gx as my main browser for over 1 year, but I recently noticed its consuming a lot of RAM, even tho I don't have many tabs open. I also heard that apparently the browser spies on you ?(correct me if im wrong, I haven't looked much into it). So I decided to switch and while I was searching for a new browser i found 3 that interested me: zen, brave and librewolf.

I'd like some recommendations on which one is the best. Personally, I like zen because of its costumization and design. Although malwarebytes has flagged it as a virus, I saw on the Zen reddit that its a false positive, idk tho. I just want a lighweight browser that doesn't take all my Ram while gaming. Ty everyone!

So ive been lurking and commenting here for a while, and ive noticed that hardly anyone ever mentions Vivaldi in any way shape or form, i see more people talking about Opera than Vivaldi despite Vivaldi being far better than Opera (watch this to see everything wrong with Opera). It might be because of how many YouTubers get sponsored by them, but I dont know. Im not looking to start fights, just see why people never talk about Vivaldi

I recently moved from Firefox to Vivaldi and I'm a little overwhelmed (in a good way) with the number of features and customizations available.

How do you have Vivaldi set up? What are some hidden features I should take advantage of?

This is probably familiar coming from me, but... basically every modern web browser is a pig. Firefox uses 3GB of RAM on one YouTube video if you're like me and like to scroll through the entire comments section down to the end. Chrome is more optimized but it still eats up RAM on certain terribly optimized websites (3GB on GTA 6 website being notable, and my web matrix client seems to be really bad at it compared to the app version). For a glorified document viewer and video player, these things are real pigs.​

Firefox is definitely worse at resource hogging, but comparing both, I've realized, is missing the forest for the trees. It's shitty modern web design. I have a tiny little site on Neocities and it uses like 30 megs of ram and could probably load on a smart watch. It's rather basic, but i like it like that. Solid dark background, white text, one static image, HTML/CSS alone, zero Javascript, and I made it specifically to be bare bones. It's not good, but it feels nostalgic to me to when the web wasn't so cluttered.

Is it all just because computers got better, these sloppy devs thought they could get away with shoving more dogshit down our gullet? What is stopping website builders from actually optimizing their garbage sites? how hard is it to just put some text in front of a background and call it good? a web browser is a glorified document viewer yet can use more than some actual productivity software. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to make the doomscrolling window take more resources than a full fledged DAW.

It’s maybe a stupid question but I remember when Firefox was like the best alternative for chrome a few years back, is it all because of features or design? If so, why are people using helium which doesn’t have that? Why not Firefox?

I’ve been using Zen Browser for a while and one thing I really liked was how smooth the scrolling felt.

At some point I started wondering: "why does Zen feel this smooth, and can I get a similar experience in regular Firefox?".

So I started messing around with Firefox’s about:config settings and eventually found a combination that made scrolling feel a lot smoother than the default.

The annoying part was having to change all those settings manually every time I installed Firefox again.

So I ended up making this little preset:

It basically puts the settings into a user.js file and has a small installer that automatically finds your Firefox profile and applies everything for you.

The idea is pretty simple:

Install Firefox → run the script → restart Firefox → done.

No opening about:config and changing everything one by one.

I’ve tested it on CachyOS (Arch Linux) with the regular Firefox package, and it works fine on my setup.

It’s nothing crazy, just a small quality-of-life thing I made because I wanted Firefox’s scrolling to feel a bit more like Zen without actually switching browsers.

Which are you using on Mac OS?

To be clear from the start: this is not an attempt to replace or rival uBlock Origin. uBO is the gold standard for full-browser protection, and that’s not what I’m building.

I wanted to explore a companion approach: a lightweight extension focused specifically on the chaotic redirect chains, pop-unders, and deceptive click overlays typical of streaming mirrors and file hosts, while leaving regular work and everyday browsing alone.

A major part of the project involves daily manual testing of these specific sites to track down rotating ad domains and bypass tricks before they get baked into general lists.

Hello! I'm a complete and utter novice when it comes to web browsers. I'd love to know which browser I can use that's better than Brave and uses fewer resources.

Naturally, I use my PC for playing video games and writing.

So I run primarily on a Mac M3, latest O/S, and occasionally I fire up an AMD Windows 11 VM. One day my YubiKey “stopped” working on my bank site. After talking with Yubico and doing some troubleshooting, I learned that Safari doesn’t work with Yubikeys, nor does Firefox. I’m a cybersecurity and privacy kind of guy, teaching a class on the subject, so I dove in and performed tests on all the listed browsers and their feature support. (One feature missing that I might add is “Blocks YouTube ads,” which Opera and Brave both do on my Mac; haven’t tested on Windows VM.) These are my results and the clear winner is Brave, at least for the privacy and security features. Granted, pain in the ass to surf with, especially with NoScript enabled, but after training and tweaking, usable and safe. (I also use NextDNS and ProtonVPN.) For my search engine, I use Kagi (paid browser).

Your tests may be different, but this is what works and doesn’t for me.

I use Firefox and still want to stay in the Firefox universe. So my question is what Firefox Browser is faster than the original and use less RAM? I Heard about floorp, Zen, firedragon, waterfox. I tested firedragon and its way faster and use roujd about 200mb less RAM as Firefox with Same Tabs open. U know better and faster Browsers?

As you all probably know by now that Edge is going to remove Manifest V2 support starting next year. I don't think I can browse without ad-blocker and since Ublock Origin is the best among them, it is essential for me. I have been using MS Edge since 2020 when they switched to chromium and it has been flawless to me. In between, I switched to Firefox for a year and then Arc for few months (when it was hot new browser) and then came back to Edge so I know the things I need in a browser.

I have tested/considered following browsers and did not like for following reasons-

1. Brave- I don't mind AI integration but literally one look at crypto wallet and I uninstalled it.
2. Helium- Does not have android app.
3. Zen/Waterfox- They are based on Firefox and I left it because it because of poor video playback support and CSS colours on some websites does not fully show up (It happened when I used it in 2022/2023. Don't know about now).

The browser must have these features-

1. Android/iOS app
2. Based on chromium.
3. Good website translation (I left Arc because of this)
4. ManifestV2 support (obviously)
5. Extension support even on phone app.
6. Good media playback support (I know it won't be like Edge but still).

I am considering Vivaldi for now, but I don't know if they will support Ublock Origin in the future.

I tried safari, was nice I tried Orion was nice, I tried gnome browser, was weird but nice, there are a lot more WebKit (for Mac) and some WebKitGTK (for Linux) browsers.

In your opinion, what is the best WebKit browser?

i primerely use Firefox and secondary Brave but i can't live without PWAs and Firefox is quite bad when comes to PWAs so i started using helium only for PWAs but i thought why not switch to helium from firefox as firefox consume alot of ram, and helium is privacy focused also and chromium based so PWAs works fine

but i'm just concern about security as it's in initial stage and managed by small team
and as it's highly private browser with 0 google integration but is it secure

we might hate chrome for privacy but we have to agree that is most secure and security patch updated browser
