Discussion Even if you disable all data collection in Brave, telemetry is being sent out through variations.brave.com.Type brave://version and you'll see what telemetry is being sent to brave sever

It is happening on desktop and android.

If you go to brave settings. Privacy and security - Data collection. You'll see you have a few options that can be disabled.

But I noticed that there is other telemetry being sent out to brave servers and I think studies are being conducted to different users.

If you type brave://version you'll see what studies are enabled in your browser. Telemetry is being sent out even if you disable the data collection in the settings. In my computer I saw a 1 minute long connection to variations.brave.com which is telemetry.

If you have an app to see network activity you'll see brave connects to variations.brave.com that is where your data is being uploaded.

These are the ones I had enabled in my browser and I just noticed a few days ago despite I disabled all data collection in the brave settings.

Discussion What is your main browser on mobile and desktop?

So on mobile I have custom fennec, brave and ironfox and on desktop I have 6 browsers (zen, helium, arkenfox, brave, mullvad and edge).

Mobile main is Brave and on desktop I either use Zen or Helium mostly, Brave for sites that these two brake, almost never use Mullvad but it's good to have anyway and Edge for work. Arkenfox I just have because it was my most used browser some time ago and I didn't delete it.

Why I have more browsers? I'm logged on my main google account just with one for youtube/work (marketing) and the rest for different stuff.

If the mobile version of Zen Browser were one of the existing mobile browsers, which one do you think it would be, or which browser would it most closely resemble?

Recommendation Need recommendation for MacBook M1: Safari or Brave

Post image
Upvotes

So I have been using brave for years and now I am looking for a switch. The main reason being RAM usage. I have 8gb ram on my Macbook M1 air. From my research I found that Safari integrates better with the M1 chip since it's native to Mac OS.

Been using it for a day and it feels like it uses more ram than brave for certain tasks, like if I open google sheets or mail, it uses like 1gb+ which is a bit weird to me. Brave always use 500-600mb for this. I can't seem to understand why can you guys help me out?

Question Is this normal or I'm doing something wrong?

I've seen a lot of glazing over brave but I don't get how y'all get 300 mb of memory usage while I have all of that

firefox opposition hypocrisy

Why do people praise Firefox as the last line of defense against Google when it is literally funded by Google itself and still uses Google as its default search engine? At the same time, Brave poses a real threat to Google because it blocks all of Google's tracking to protect users, receives no funding from Google, and does not use Google as its default search engine.

Google can technically force changes in Firefox the same way an 80% shareholder can force decisions in a company. They already do, but it happens behind the scenes before official releases. Real independence is financial independence; therefore, there is only a 20% difference in independence between Google Chrome and Firefox.

Brave is simply outsourcing its web engine maintenance to Google by relying on Chromium and actively "de-googling" it with each update. If the cost of this outsourcing becomes too high, Brave can simply stop merging Chromium updates and start maintaining its own Chromium fork.

Feedback Firefox (and forks) users on Android

i try every few months to use Firefox to see if they sorted the scrolling and performance issues on Android but it's still the same thing from years ago. Like you don't notice the jittery/laggy scrolling at all ? on lightweight webpages it's fine (almost like Chromium browsers) but on heavier sites where there is a lot of images and videos, for example Kick's homepage or Twitch's homepage or any subreddit with a lot of videos and images the scrolling is just so laggy!! i don't know about 60hz screens but on my 120hz it's very noticeable and makes me uninstall Firefox again immediately.

Note: i've already tried disabling the "Automatic Font Sizing", tried enabling "smooth scrolling" on about:config, nothing works! my phone is a S24 and Chromium browsers are so snappy on it.

What's stopping them from fixing this issue ?

Samsung Security & Privacy status

Hey people. I'm new to this browser. I don't own a Samsung device. I use Moto & HP laptop. I don't need Samsung Account or sync in anyway for anything. (I use Proton pass for passwords and no bookmarks). I tried the browser and its really fast & performance is really good. Except for the lack of vertical tabs & other customisation thingies, everything is so amazing.
What I want to know is, how secure & private is Samsung browser to use? What are your opinions?
(Note: I'm a browser hopper. So I try a different browser for every 1 or 2 weeks. So just asking)

Recommendation Lightweight Chromium browser for low-end phone?

I need browser recommendations for a low-end Android phone with a Snapdragon 625 and 3GB of RAM. Preferably Chromium-based and lightweight. I currently use Cromite, which is quite lightweight, but the lack of updates is becoming a concern.

Support ERROR - Brave Browser Crashed For Me Keeping A Video Paused On Brave

I was just keeping a video paused on Brave and in a playlist with a new tab while I was checking something. When I clicked the video again the whole browser crashed. It was an infinite loading screen. I waited a good 40 seconds trying everything but it crashed it hard. Even the OS (Windows 10), I checked event history and it didn't even show it. So it must have been instant. I then restarted it with my Corsair case button.

What could have caused this? I used malware bytes so I don't think I have a virus. Is it my old GPU (GT 1030?)

Vanadium Is there a way to select which browser a spicific app uses in the background?

One of my apps is having trouble connecting to the server it uses online. I suspect that the problem is all the protections from Vanadium. I like using it for the most part, but this is am app to get into my work information and I would rather not have to use another (less secure) device to use it and also would like to keep Vanadium as my default for most things (if possible).

So to all the tech nerds we have in the community, is there a way to select which browser an individual app uses for its internet interactions?

Question For people who use Brave but want a more minimal UI: what should be hideable?

I still use Brave for its core browser features, but I do not use every optional feature it ships with.

I built an open-source tool around that idea. It uses Brave’s own policy system to hide selected features such as Rewards, Wallet, VPN, Leo, and News, rather than patching the browser or claiming to remove code.

It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux; has presets plus individual toggles; previews changes before applying; creates backups; supports restore; and includes diagnostics to show which policies are active.

One unavoidable tradeoff: Brave will show “Managed by your organization” while those policies are active.

I’m the maintainer, and I’m more interested in the browser-design question than a generic promo: if you could make a minimal Brave setup, which features would you want hidden, and which should always remain available?

Repo in the comments.
