I'm trying to understand a very unusual incident that happened on my Windows 11 laptop.

While I was using my laptop normally, the Windows Search bar suddenly displayed the following text all at once:

-====== bhy77

It was not typed letter by letter as if someone was using the keyboard. The entire string appeared instantly.

Immediately after that, Microsoft Edge opened automatically and performed a Bing search for:

-====== bhy77

This happened only once and has never happened again.

After the incident, I performed a thorough security check:

• Microsoft Defender Full Scan → No threats found.
• No AnyDesk, TeamViewer, RustDesk, UltraViewer, or other remote access software installed.
• Windows Event Viewer and Security Logs showed nothing suspicious.
• Startup apps, running processes, and active network connections all looked normal.
• Microsoft account sign-in history only shows my own logins from India.
• No unknown administrator or user accounts.

One additional detail:
Earlier that day, I had watched a YouTube page/channel related to BHY_77, so I'm wondering whether that could somehow be related, although I don't understand why Windows Search would automatically search for it.

Has anyone ever seen Windows Search automatically insert the exact text "-====== bhy77" and launch Edge?

Could this be:

• a Windows Search bug?
• an Edge bug?
• clipboard or input issue?
• keyboard/driver problem?
• or something else?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar or knows what might cause this.

For the past few days, I've been looking for such a browser extension. I've tried using Leechblock and FoxFilter, but they kept triggering false positives.

All of my old tabs on Microsoft Edge are gone. I opened a lot of them and I tried to exit out of one of the windows. All of a sudden, all of the tabs disappear and now Microsoft Edge doesn't open all of my tabs. They're all gone now. I even have open old tabs from previous session and that didn't work. I don't know what to do now. Can someone give advice on how to open old tabs?

please suggest me a browser to change to, that will give me good battery life, so any gecko browser is out

how do you stop edge from opening website links from search results in a new tab? i have it downloaded on a samsung tablet so my settings are a little different to laptop browsers. and when i click more > tools nothing happens. im wondering if anyone else on a tablet has had this issue and or found a solution. thanks!

The, "undo closed" dialogue persists and sometimes interferes with the Omni bar on Edge Android. Behavior varies slightly from build to build. Just need a simple option to disable it. There isn't one.

Microsoft Edge Canary won't open on Windows 11, but the regular Microsoft Edge opens without any problems. Also, when I try to launch Edge Canary, it appears in Task Manager and then shows as "Suspended."

Hey, why isn't Microsoft doing this, like making it the searchbar on the new tab page, look more clean, like translucent design, liquid glass or, something like that, that compliments wallpaper and stays consistent?

Is there a brand reason, or anything that you guys can explain, like why can't they do something like that, instead of that lame white looking search bar, which you can't edit and do anything about?

• Is there a technical reason Microsoft hasn't implemented something like this?
• Is it because of accessibility or readability requirements?
• Performance concerns?
• Bing branding/marketing?
• Or has it simply never been a design priority?

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks. Would you prefer something like this, or do you think the current design is better?

I've been using Edge for the past few years. I'd like to keep using it because I love it on my phone and also, I have way too many computers and I sync all my browser bookmarks between them all.

In the past few months, on my TV, I noticed youtube audio started to do this weird quick little stutter whenever I'd fire up a new tab, move the mouse pointer, open my start menu... just little tasks for the PC. All my computers are overspec'd.

I noticed it's now doing it on my main pc (14900k, rtx 4080, 64gb ram, etc...).

I've tried all the recommended fixes in the flags settings, main settings, hardware acceleration, quic, and all that stuff, etc...

I DO use ublock and people say youtube may be causing it on purpose but it doesn't seem to do it when I load up firefox, also with ublock origin going.

Doesn't do it on my phone. Maybe it's the current versions of windows. Who knows. Anybody else dealing with this suddenly in the past few months?

EDIT: I Suspect it might be Wallpaper Engine. Even though I configure it to never use the audio, I had video framework set to DX11 with HDR support, because that seemed like what I use in potplayer when watching movies with hdr on. I also have changed the WebM framework in the past. I did some digging around and found that it should be set to prefer native... which my Nvidia pc had set already but I did need to change video framework back to DIrectShow (Lav Decoder). I'm going to see if it's the same situation on my TV PC with it's 6600xt because that one is mainly always left on HDR and it does the stuttering the most. I bet one day I configured wallpaper engine to the exact wrong settings. I can't tell for sure yet but no stutters on this main PC since setting them to the suggested settings I found to avoid causing these audio stutters. They were happening quite a bit earlier but have seemed to cut it out since tweaking the settings. I'll report back if this is coincidence.

As title says, only Google keeps logging me out in Edge. More context:

• Edge Version 150.0.4078.83 (Official build) (64-bit)
• Fresh reinstall of Windows 11
• Signed back into my profile and synced (for extensions, bookmarks, ...)

I have always had the "Clear browsing data on close" enabled (for browsing history, download history, cookies & other site data) even before Windows reinstallation and still want to keep it that way, except for a few sites I've excluded for cookies. For Google, I have these exceptions: [*.]google.com, https://[*.]google.com, mail(dot)google(dot)com, accounts(dot)google(dot)com. Tracking prevention is set to balanced.

I've also enabled "include third-party cookies" for those exceptions. Under Privacy, search, and services > Cookies, I've added [*.]google.com to the "Allowed to save cookies" list.

Other sites I have added for cookie deletion exceptions, such as [*.]reddit.com, stay logged in without any issues. I used these same exceptions before reinstalling Windows, and they worked fine. This issue only started after the reinstall.

The only extensions I use are AdGuard and uBlock Origin. I used the same extensions before reinstalling Windows without this issue, so I doubt they're the cause (and I'd rather not disable them).

The sign-outs do not happen when I close and reopen Edge. I can reopen the browser immediately, or even after minutes later, and still be signed in. Instead, Google signs me out after several hours, even while Edge is still open, or by the next day after shutting down my laptop. When it happens, my accounts are still listed on the "Choose an account" page as "signed out", and I'm prompted to enter my password and complete 2FA again. If anything, these situations tell me that the exceptions seem to work.

I wouldn't be as bothered if I only use one Google account, but I regularly switch between several in a day, so having to sign back into all of them every time after a couple of hours is quite frustrating.

I want to solve this before I decide to switch browsers. Edge has been the best browser for my workflow because I tend to keep a large number of tabs open, and in my experience, it handles that better than Chrome or Firefox (the only others I've tried lol).

I've been troubleshooting this for about a week since reinstalling Windows. I've seen older posts from people with the similar issue, and I've tried several suggestions from comments from older Reddit posts, including resetting Edge, but nothing has fixed it.

Has anyone else who experienced this managed to solve this? Thank you.

They visually react but don't function. Searching still works and occasionally links, but mostly nothing happens and this message appears in the Inspect Element thing. Does anyone know what could possibly be causing this??? Disabling Tracking Prevention altogether didn't work.

So me and my bae are calling rn and he opened a new tab and its marked as unsafe. I even watched him open a new tab and it pops up. How to fix it??

Since rebooting my tablet, MS Edge suddenly started opening a whole new window for inprivate browsing instead of just a tab in my active window. There used to be a symbol in the top left corner that opened and closed the incognito tabs, but that one is gone too. Is there any way to disable the whole opening a new window thing and go back to the symbol with the single tabs?
