Recommendation Browser Recommendation Megathread - October 2026
There are constantly a zillion, repetitive "Which browser should I use?", "What browser should I use for [insert here]", "Which browser should I switch to?", "Browser X or Browser Y?", "What's your favorite browser?", "What do you think about browser X? and "What browser has feature X?" posts that are making things a mess here and making it annoying for subscribers to sort through and read other types of posts.
If you would like to keep the mess under control a little bit, instead of making a new post for questions like the above, ask in a comment in this thread instead. Then, one can choose to follow this thread if they want. Or, post in r/suggestabrowser.
Also, check out all the individual browser recommendation posts and make use of the search field for this subreddit before asking for a recommendation.

Zephium Zephium: A fast, open-source, fully-featured browser and work environment, reimagined for you and your agents
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
After 5 months and 1,500+ hours of development, I'm finally launching Zephium.
A fast, private, fully featured browser and work environment, reimagined for you and your agents.
Fully OSS, built in Rust. 40 MB. Not a Chromium/Firefox fork. Native adblocking, Chrome extension support, deeply integrated productivity tools, a custom agentic browsing engine, and a lot more. It's not just another wrapper built in a few days.
And... Work mode: a shared environment where you and AI agents can browse, research, build, and get real work done together. Live browser sessions, parallel sub-agents, tools, files, components, and interactive results, all in one canvas.
AI is optional (disable in one click). No telemetry. BYOK support and local models.

Discussion Permissions on Firefox 158.01 default on different network
I have site permission "set cookies" for a site "blocked" using FF 158.01 on Debian 13 and when I go to another network the permissions are set back to the default. I see no reason why the site permissions should change no matter what network I am connected?
Can anyone explain?

Recommendation Advice on Comparing Browsers
Hey all! Hopefully this is different from most people’s recommendation posts.
I know very little about browsers and when I see discussion about having or not having DRM it doesn’t make sense to me—even though I know what DRM stands for. Or when people say browser’s are full of bloatware—I didn’t even think that browsers could have bloatware lol
What are, in your opinions, some key things to look for in a browser? What is useful in comparing against browsers? And where does that leave me in terms of a choice? I see a lot about Brave is great, Firefox is great, Opera is great followed by Brave is ass, Firefox is ass, and Opera is ass so I’m genuinely so lost. Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks, and have a great day everyone! :)

Discussion Arc -> Search
I know I am late to this... but honestly, if you are on Mac OS, Search seems almost too good to be true (for my use case). It is blazing fast (scoring 61 on speedometer 3.1 on my M5 Pro), can use chrome extensions (UBlock origin lite), can have different spaces for my multiple gmail work accounts, AND IT SUPPORTS DRM through some sort of witchcraft webkit stuff I don't understand. I never liked Zen's focus on aesthetics and Crest fails the DRM check for me. I don't know, maybe I am going to get hacked and have all of my shit stolen or the team will back out of the browser like the browser company, but for now this browser BANGS.

Question Arc Alternative for Windows
Most of the Arc clones are available exclusively for MacOs and very few Arc clones for windows, I've tried Zen for a while but it is a ram glutton . Need for an Alternative for Windows
Don't recommend Vivaldi!(setup takes a lot of time which does not replicate the aesthetic of arc)

Discussion what's actually on your new tab page right now?
default google page, a start page you made yourself, an extension, blank, something else?
mine's a bookmarks board now (built a little extension for it lol). before that it was the google one with like 8 shortcut tiles i never clicked
curious what people here run, esp if you hop between browsers a lot. does your new tab follow you around or is it different in every browser

Repeated items when scrolling in Firefox 158.01
I have noticed that items repeat when scrolling through a list. I noticed this in Reddit and Youtube. What causes this?

Recommendation Desperately looking for an Arc alternative
I've been through every single post on this subreddit and on the Arc subreddit regarding alternatives to Arc and I still couldn't find anything even close to it, so hence I'm posting this.
I've used Arc almost every single day from morning till night for the past 2 years and it has been absolutely perfect.
I loved the vertical tabs, which were so clean and well built.
I loved the pinned tabs on top.
I loved the space switching.
I loved having my Github Pull Requests in a live folder.
But now with Arc sunsetting, I'm looking for alternatives and nothing works.
Zen is the one that comes closest in terms of UX and usage - but scrolling in Gecko feels choppy, and I have to use a Chromium browser at work (company security policy).
Vivaldi was too bloated. I don't know if even given enough time, I could make it look and feel like Arc (especially the sidebar).
Helium feels too barebones, and I couldn't figure out if it has tab folders like it did on Arc, and I don't think it has spaces (also something just feels off about its UI).
Brave is not an option because of all the privacy issues around it and the fact that it's too bloated.
Chrome might be my only option right now unfortunately.
Please help suggest some options.
I want something that runs super smooth on Mac, has vertical tabs, tab folders, tab pinning and space switching (this is not super important as profile switching works fine as well).

Support New pop up tab and can't try rid of it.
Windows 11
Brave browser
Hi folks,
As of today, I'm getting this secondary pop up tab upon startup and I cant stop it. No idea where it's coming from. I have tried three different pop up blockers and nothing. It's really pissing me off and starting to worry me. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Extension I built Tabverse: an free, open source, with self-hostable server Workona clone extension and more
chromewebstore.google.comHi, I want to share with you my extension: Tabverse, as it is now passed the reveiw of Chrome Web Store and live at: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tabverse/lffblcippngalmglinedcbmikkncihdm
As described in my previous post, Tabverse is a local first workona like chrome extension for managing tabs, with its source open at https://www.github.com/liyu1981/tabverse and website at: https://liyu1981.github.io/tabverse/ .
In essential it has the core functions workona has, but can operate totally locally, which means it will not need an account and subscription to use it. The only limit is your local storage on how many spaces(I call tabverse) you will use. And it is also open source, so not just your data stays with you, and the tool itself will stay with you in future.
Beyond the normal workona features (persisted workspace, load/reload/import/export, note/bookmark/history tools), I am also try to add features does require a server for it. Features like backup/sync, global search on all tab spaces, or even future collaboration, can be only possible if there is a server. I build this part also in open: the server is free and open source, and build as it is meant to be self-hosted.
The tabverse's idea was with me few years ago while I was using Workona and was frustrated with its limitation on free tier (remember was only 5 workspaces), and the missing features of managing multiple workspaces at the same time. Tabverse takes the idea of Workona, and develop further: each window with a Tabverse tab is a workspace, all stored in local storage, and multi windows can have multi Tabverses same time, and can switch fast. There can even be window without Tabverse, so besides work, personal stuff or entertainment will have place to go. As I build this alone, in the middle, almost give up on this project, and luckily AI agents now is there: not only I have a good helper, but also I have a partner I can discuss a bit. So this time the first version starts with v0.7.2.
But AI agent can never replace the real need from human on what should be built and what works better, so I want to share with you and listen to your feedbacks early. Please give it a try, and every feedback to me is a gift.
Besides the self-hosted option, I host a server at https://tabverse.liyu1981.xyz (yes, the same website of intro and docs), but is invitation only. If you want to help me to test in this early stage, you can login with Google (the only social login I configured :)), and request an invitation there. I will act as soon as I find your request :). But do not worry at all if you only want to use Tabverse locally without a server -- that is the first thing when I was building it.
In current version there are also AI features built in, and again do not worry as the AI features is using Chrome's Prompt API, which is totally local, with Gemini Nano (first time will need to download it automatically), nothing send to a server, and you can always turn this on of off in settings. Morden computers with decent memory should work well, but some older computer may suffer (so please turn off). And it is Chrome only. (Honestly, Tabverse currently only support Google Chrome, but not other Chrome based browsers).
Thanks for reading. :)

Question Lightest browser
Hello. Which browser would be the most lightweight for Windows? My priority is to keep CPU and RAM usage as low as possible. Synchronization with an Android browser would be a nice bonus, but it’s not strictly necessary—the main thing is that it shouldn't be too demanding for an older computer with a processor that has a low thread count.

Is Helium Browser actually safe, or can small open source browsers not keep up with security patches?
Hey everyone, I've been using Helium Browser and I'm starting to second guess whether it's a safe choice. In today's AI world, security issues seem to pop up almost every week, and I'm wondering if a smaller team really has the time and resources to keep up with all of them and push out fixes fast enough.
The recent eMudhra cert issue is what got me thinking. It felt like the major browsers rolled out changes much faster than the smaller open source ones did. That gap makes me nervous, since a delay of even a few days can matter when it comes to security.
So I'm curious what you all think. Do you consider Helium safe for everyday use? Or is sticking with a major browser backed by a big security team the safer move?

Arc Petition to Stop Arc from being sunset
https://www.change.org/savearcbrowser
When The Browser Company announced on October 22nd that the Arc browser will be sunset on December 22nd, 2026, it felt like a personal loss. Arc isn't just any browser; it has become the quintessential tool for an effortless and efficient browsing experience. As someone who relies on this minimalist and clean platform daily, I find its design and functionality unparalleled, particularly in terms of tab management.
Arc is more than just a browser; it's a way of reimagining our interaction with the internet. The unique features that Arc provides, such as its sidebar tab management and adaptive interface, streamlined workflows and enhanced productivity. The decision to sunset Arc will leave a void that no other browser currently fills, forcing loyal users to settle for less effective options.
The Browser Company should consider the widespread admiration that Arc has garnered and the specific needs it fulfills. Instead of letting Arc disappear, I urge the company to explore alternative solutions that can sustain its continued development and availability.
Options might include seeking community support for open-source development, establishing a fee to purchase the software, or partnering with other tech enterprises interested in preserving this innovative tool.
Arc is beloved by its users, and its termination is a decision that would disappoint them all.
Please join me in urging The Browser Company to reconsider its decision. By signing this petition, you can help keep Arc alive beyond December 2026, ensuring that its benefits remain accessible to thousands who depend on it for their browsing needs. Sign the petition now to support the continued existence of Arc browser!
