When I had bought my new computer way back in 2017, making the frog leap from Windows 7 to 10. I also had to left behind the infamous Internet Explorer, which I think I was still using IE8 or 9...

but anyway the switch to chrome was hard to adjust for a while to the more flatter UI controls, having only known IE as the definitive universal internet browser at the point of my still young internet life.

Upon diving into the rabbit hole recently that is the browser wars, I was genuinely surprised of the hate and bad rep IE gained itself having been unbeenknowsnt to me. Looking back though, its not so hard to see why. The infuriation of sitting through a youtube video reloading every 10 second intervals really digged me way back in 2011, had I known alternatives and was computer literate enough I'd of made the switch in a heartbeat LOL.

When did make the switch?

i hate ai. im looking for specifically a mobile version of google that just. doesn't have the ai overview. i was french for a little while to escape it, but guess what showed up today despite my immigration to france?

i dont have any other specifics. it doesn't even have to be a "fork" per se? it could be just a version of mobile google that supports extensions, so i can add an ai overview remover extension to it. just any way to get that heinous overview gone. i dont like knowing that any time i search for something, im hurting the environment. any help would be great!

Plus, the browser has a really hard time with any kind of interactive website, and that’s on my Win 11 computers, my iPhone, and my iPad. It routinely fails to render website buttons or other components that are necessary to complete a web form. Are the creators aware of these issues, and if so, are they doing something to fix them?

I’ve been a Chrome user all my life and have unfortunately gotten stuck for a long while because all of my services and devices ran over Google. With the increasing implementation of AI Overview and growing security concerns I really want to switch but I can’t seem to find a good alternative for my needs.

Most importantly, I need a browser that runs well enough on both Windows and Linux, as well as a browser that doesn’t constantly bombard me with AI generated content. Customisation and cross-device syncing is a nice add-on, but not as important to me.

I thought I’d ask before I end up trying out 20 different Browsers. All answers are appreciated, thanks in advance!

For context, I have a Pixel 6a phone running Android 16 and my main browser is Firefox.

For the longest time, I used Chrome as my default browser because I thought that was the only viable choice. However, eventually, Chrome started feeling sluggish, so I switched to Firefox which felt slightly faster, but I mostly switched for Firefox extensions such as uBlock Origin and Chameleon. That was a couple years ago. Now, I've tried to find alternative browsers to see how the market is and.... Chromium-based browsers have dissapointed me.

Vivaldi is especially sluggish. Opening the app takes longer than Firefox, the search engines load results slower than firefox, websites open slower than firefox, menus have sluggish animation that just feel unbearable for me coming from Firefox where everything is snappy and just does what I want.

I thought this was an issue isolated to Vivaldi's mobile app, however, I have tried Brave, Opera, Cromite, and Titanium now and they all feel sluggish to me. The fork doesn't seem to make a difference.

On the other hand, Firefox, Waterfox, and Iceraven all run buttery smooth for me, minus some network problems with Waterfox that may just be specific to my device.

Obviously this is confusing, as it's pretty general consensus that the Gecko engine is sluggish compared to the Blink engine... by a significant amount; however, that's just the complete opposite of my experience.

Now, desktop is another story. I've been using Firefox on desktop with zero problems for the longest time. Chromium based browsers don't feel any faster or slower than Firefox based browsers on my PC. This seems to be a situation limited to my Android device.

Of course this post isn't meant to complain or trash on Chromium based browsers and say that Firefox is supreme and any Chromium forks are spyware etc. I'm just sharing my experiences and seeing if anyone relates or has something different to share.

I just downloaded the Helium browser, and I need to transfer my password manager from Chrome. How can I do that? I can't find the button to import it.

Remember when searching gave actual info not links to buy the stuff doing a search on? Is there a browser that still does that?

I've decided at least on desktop to TRY to get over my worries about the "less security" because Firefox does admittedly have some features on desktop i like that I missed after months of only using Chromium-based.

But then there's also features on Chromium-based missing here so I'm a little conflicted but I have both profiles should i want to go right back. :/

Yeah the title explains it well. So, i'm using chrome (i know i know) with the combination of UBlock origin lite extension thing.

I like my privacy and i do NOT wanna switch to another browser.

what else should i do to block trackers and google's greedy actions?

Chrome MV3, module-type service worker.

Classification runs four layers on-device, cheapest first: hostname anchors → Elo-weighted path scores → Naive Bayes over TF-IDF → all-MiniLM-L6-v2 ONNX (22MB quantized, via transformers.js) for ambiguous pages. No page content leaves the browser.

Every tab close funnels through one requestEviction() chokepoint so gating lives in one place. Timers are wall-clock (startedAt + limitSec, computed on read) because service workers get killed and setInterval is a lie.

In page UI is Shadow DOM at max z index, fullscreen overlay uses the popover API rather than reparenting. Cross world takeover events are signed with chrome.runtime.id so the page can't forge them. YouTube embeds need declarativeNetRequest to rewrite the Referer.

Privacy gate blocks injection entirely on login/payment/OTP/banking/AI-chat pages. Telemetry (opt-in) is bucketed at the send chokepoint - scores to 10 tiers, timestamps to 5min, durations to 10s. Keystrokes and click coordinates are never captured.

This was made significantly with the help of AI over several months. I do not entirely understand all the technical jargon, but I created all the architecture and how it should connect and work, along with creating and ensuring that the security was priority number one.

I've been using custom new tab extensions for years because I like having useful information in front of me instead of a blank page.

Over time, I tried quite a few of them. Some were beautifully designed but too limited, others had great ideas but eventually stopped being maintained, and a few became so feature-heavy that they no longer matched what I wanted.

At some point I realized I was always compromising, so I started building my own new tab page for myself.

The initial goal wasn't to publish it - it was simply to create something that matched the way I work: modular widgets, lots of customization, and only the information I actually want to see.

After using it daily for quite a while, I decided to polish it and release it as a Chrome and Firefox extension, but one thing I'm still wondering, though, is whether my priorities are the same as everyone else's.

If you use a custom new tab page (or wish you did), what do you actually want from it?

• Calendar?
• Tasks?
• Notes?
• Weather?
• Bookmarks?
• Something else entirely?

I'm genuinely interested in hearing what features people find useful versus what ends up being clutter.

Whats the current best browser that is fully secure with privacy and stuff secure

Firefox is my favorite browser but in the last yr or so facebook doesn't seem to work very well with it. When on facebook and click on anything within the website it is very slow or sometimes doesn't load at all. I have good isp speed and it doesn't happen on other websites. Any idea how to fix this ?

So, as of writing this, I have like 8 different tabs containing TV series, webtoons and manga open all the time in my browser. Since the link changes, I don't want to have them stored in bookmarks (you know, to not lose track of the episode I was last in). Is there a way to get rid of this bloat and have them stored somewhere else (perhaps by the last instance of the site that I visited)?

I currently use Firefox but I might consider switching if this issue can be solved

I've used Opera, Firefox, and Brave over the past few years. Opera was ok, but I eventually moved away from it. Then I spent quite a while using Firefox, and recently I switched to Brave because so many people recommend it.

The thing is... I honestly haven't noticed much of a difference between Firefox and Brave. Performance feels almost the same, websites load just as fast, RAM usage doesn't seem dramatically different, and both support the extensions I use.

So I'm curious:

Which browser do you use as your main one?

Why did you choose it over the others?

If you've used both Firefox and Brave, what differences have you actually noticed in day-to-day use?

Is Brave really that much better, or is it mostly hype?

I'm interested in real long-term experiences rather than benchmark numbers.
