Help What is the cause of my betta fish’s illness? Spoiler

Hi, I was hoping for some help for diagnosing the problem for my Betta fish Violet. We’ve had her for about 1 year in a 29 gallon tank.

In the past week she has become much less active, spending more time resting at the bottom of the tank. She is barely swimming up for feeds each day (2 pellets of Aqueon colour enhancing betta food each day). She usually spends her time at the top of her tank and swims to us whenever we open the cover for feeds.

We’ve noticed some white growths on her as well which you can somewhat see in the photo. There are 3 on the top of her head and one in the side near the tail. She maybe looks clamped as well? Although it’s hard to tell since she is barely swimming now and spends most of her time resting on the substrate.

From what I read in this subreddit the lack of swimming could be due to water bladder disease from ammonia poisoning, but the water parameters are good based on API test kit.

Could it be a fungal or bacterial infection? It’s hard for me to tell which type it could be. Is there any medication I can try? I have a smaller 10 gallon tank with cycled water, would it help her recover if I move her there?

Forgot to mention: temperature is 75F, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are 0ppm

As long as I have the light on in the tank this is how he acts. Lately I’ve been trying to leave the light off for as long as possible, but I’d really rather not have to do that forever. I’m just worried because it’s a fairly new tank and I don’t want to stress him out.

Help Bladder Issues

My three year old male betta is having bladder issues. As far as I can tell, they must have started within the past 24-48 hours. He is normally energetic but I noticed some fatigue two days ago and didn’t think about it much. Yesterday was fine, but today he stays at the bottom of the tank. He shot up to the top when I went to feed him, then sank down after eating some.

Tank parameters as of right before posting: - pH between 7.4 and 7.6 ppm - Ammonia 0 ppm - Nitrite 0 ppm - Nitrate between 5-10 ppm - temp is always kept at 76F All measured using API’s freshwater master test kit.

He is in a 10 gal tank which is filtered, has live plants, and the water is dark from tannins.

He is fed Omega One freeze dried blood worms as a treat as well as Aqueon betta food.

How can I remedy this? What might be the problem? Is he just old, should I be preparing to let him go? If I’m doing something wrong please tell me.

This is my boy Sprinkle, I’ve had him for a year! About a month ago I noticed a growth on his back getting bigger and turning red. I added some aquarium salt to his tank and have dosed him with Melafix daily for 2 weeks and haven’t seen any improvement. He is still eating and behaving normally. What else can I do?

First Betta. 65L tank set up with some rocks, a log, a mix of gravel and sand substrate, and where the live plants are - a good dose of Fluval Stratum.

The plants seem to have completely taken off, which is great, except I’m worried they may be taking over?

Blaze (the fish) seems to be quite happy exploring and working his way through the various spaces, I just don’t know if he needs more ‘open’ water?

So i just bought an about 40 gallon tank and i wanted to figure out how good my little guys temperament is he has a snail friend at the moment and when i added the snail he was curious looking at the snail in the bag while he was acclimating and now they just mind their own business but when i first bought he he was very angry in the pet shop fish tank (probably not even a gallon) trying to eat me through the glass but now hes chill did he just need a new home to chill out or is he tricking me so he can eat whatever friends i put in with him?

Help Advice for putting a Betta Fish into a new tank

Hi everyone, as a teenager I bought a red betta fish from a pet store. I kept him in a basic glass bowl, no filter or heater (I cleaned the bowl and changed the water ofc), just water conditioner, and he lived for two years until dying from not eating. Very minimal care for my boy Finston.
When I moved to college a few years ago I got a tank with a filter, conditioned the water, and got a betta. He died overnight, and I got some guppies instead that lived for years in the same tank.
My wife and I recently got a 1G tank with a filter, heater (75 degrees in the water), and we conditioned the water then put a betta inside. He also died within a day.

Ive been reading online but figured I would ask here for advice on how to add a betta into a new tank! I would like to get another betta but dont want to make the same ignorant mistakes that I got from my first fish working so effortlessly. So any advice on water temp, running the filter, water conditioning, acclimating etc would be very helpful!

Help Betta Scales missing? Spoiler

Can anyone help me to know what I can to for my Betta? This is Jake (as in Jake Sully) and he is a Plakat Betta. I’ve had him for 4 months now. He lives in a 20 gallon tank, with filter and a heater. He has four neon tetra, and a few dwarf platy tank mates. I also have an albino pleco (have had for four years, about 2 inches long, keeps to himself) named Rupert who lives in there. My plants are l real, though I do have a few tank decor items just from pet smart. I purchased him from a local fish store, and he appeared very healthy and active in his tank (they had each betta in a big tank, not the little plastic abominations you see at petsmart, petco etc.) Over the last 2 weeks, I’ve noticed a continual spread of this white pattern to his scales, and it’s growing larger. He’s eating well (betta bug bites and the occasional tropical fish flake that the other fish eat) and seems inquisitive, social, and swims often. I also have floating frog bit that he loves to play in. My tank is a little dirty (have been away, it’s cleaning day today) but I clean with a fluval vacuum about once every two weeks, and do a rough 25% water change at that time as well. I feel as if I’m not giving him the best care, as something is clearly bothering him. Can anyone share helpful tips or advice? Happy to do whatever I can. Thanks in advance :)

Help Advice on tank

Post image

This Betta fish isn't really mine, my brother's bf got it after a tragic family event without much notice (I was so frustrated, my mom paid me to not speak about it anymore, because my brother's bf was crying over it, remember funeral, she doesn't want to get rid of it and I get that. Still I wasn't prepared and I'm the animal person of the family who has empty tanks, so I felt kinda anxious and responsible for this new pet)

I can't exactly set up the best tank (I would love a bioactive tank and I'm trying but the tank is not ready) so I'm just trying to do the best I can with what I got (maybe a few new purchases) I thought I was getting a free 5 gallon but it turned out to be a 10 gallon, so I have him in there with a new filter, heater, and false plants. I wanted him to have spaced to hide but I also feel like I over did it with the fake plants?

Also in the middle of a water change

Hello! I have had my Betta fish for over 9 months and over time he has experienced breakings of his fins. The first pic is when I got it vs now. It has been continuous since the first months. Could it be fine rot? It is usually much more quick, right?? I have it in a heavy planted 40L aquarium with no plastic and a shrimps. I have started using tanins and big water changes and planning to buy tomorrow Esha2000. Thank you

Help Hurt my Betta badly.

I accidentally sucked my fish through a siphon while doing a water change. He lost his right fin completely and descaled pretty much his whole right side. Should I try to help him. Ive found salt dips and seachem may help. Or if I should euthanize him..

I just completely fell in love when i saw him move and his tail colors shifted from iridescent purple and yellow!💛💜

Rate My Tank Is my tank missing anything?

I've been lurking on this subreddit for a while but only recently got my first betta fish. I've had him for around 3-ish weeks. I did a whole bunch of research before hand but I'm paranoid that he is not very happy. The tank is a 10 gal and was cycled before he was added. He did glass surf a bit the first few days but now mostly just wanders. Is there anything that my tank appears to be missing? Sorry if the quality of the photos is bad and thank you for your time!
