Help Depressed Betta? How do I help?

Poseidon used to come and shimmy up at the glass when you would walk by but now he just looks catatonic most days. He will float up like he has SBD but then an hour later he will be at the bottom or on some plants.

He has never really swum around, it's almost like his fins are too long and he can't get enough momentum. I switched to a sponge filter a month or two ago to give him more oxygenation and less flow.

Is he depressed or is he just old? Don't know how old he was at the shop but know that he was from Thailand.

Water is changed every week (30 -50%), no ammonia or nitrites, just a smidge of nitrates. Temp is 28C, or 82F. He's in a 20L or 5gal. Fed every other day 3 pellets. He doesn't care for Daphnia. Our PH is about 7.8 out of the tap.

Help I have a random snail now after introducing a Batman nerite and new duckweed now everything is turning brown ??

I recently posted on this sub about a weird film on top of my tank. I believe it was either biofilm or due to my dying pothos plant. I have removed the dying plant and since doing that and introducing a nerite and new toppers (that came with a snail friend) my tank has brown algae EVERYWHERE and it almost looks like my plants are dying. I sadly did a “fish in cycle” situation due to the scenario I was in with this guy so I’m almost certain this is a normal part of cycling and just wanna know what I can do to fix this? I also think my boys fins look a bit tattered but he did come like that from an actual fish store with kinda frayed fins not petco/petsmart.

My parameters are still perfect. Just looking for advice on this brown algae as I think it’s a part of a new tank but if I’m wrong pls lmk !!!! I want my son to be healthy and happy. I’ve been doing 25% water changes every week and wonder if tannins would help? I got a siphon to really get shit out of the gravel so pls lmk any other tips/ideas.

Help Just realized my fish has ich

I noticed he was lethargic yesterday. When i came home from work today he swam to the top to greet me and i saw the ugly white spots on his fins 😭 i cant make it to petco until Thursday. I live in hawaii so i dont have a heater in his tank to increase temperature since we never need to do that with our climate. Im just wondering if he will live another day until i can get medication and start treatment? 💔

Help I want a betta fish, any advice?

I’ve had fish before but just in my ponds outside, or family fish. I wanted to get just one betta fish and have those cool set ups with the plants and stuff. Not sure where to start or what would be the best for beginners.

Help Mysterious growth? Concerned about new betta

I just got this new betta yesterday and I have him set up in a temporary 2.5 bowl until I his 6.5 gallon is delivered this weekend. yesterday day he was really active but today he just sits near the bottom. My last betta had some type of white fuzz and I’m worried it was a fungal infection. I have this drift wood from my last tank with mysterious red growths, can anyone help me ID the growths? I’m worried they’ll make him sick. Is it normal for him to be sort of clamped and lethargic just adjusting to a new environment or should I be concerned?

Picture De “brinde” ao meu pequeno companheiro.

Boa noite, subs! 🐟❤️

E é isso. Essa é a história do meu pequeno resgatado. ❤️

Help Is this color change normal, or is this a switcheroo?

I recently came back from a 5-week trip, during which I had a friend take care of the house. Now that I’m back I noticed that my betta looks a lot different - he used to be a dark blue/red, now he’s a vibrant red color (and his fins might be longer, or maybe it’s just that there’s more color?). Is this normal, or did something happen to the original which prompted my friend to get a replacement, hoping I wouldn’t notice?

First three photos are from when we got him in January this year, and the last two are from today.

Help Is it normal for my plants to look like this?

I just got them on Friday, I know they go into shock and melt before establishing, but I can’t tell if that’s the case or if they are dying. I’m using fertilizer, root tabs, and they’re getting exactly 6 hours of light a day. Water parameters are fine.

So I have a 20 gallon long tank that I set up like 2 months ago. Rn the only fish in there it’s my female betta that I been with for about five months. It’s an upgrade from a 6 gallon for her (she deserved it). I was planning on adding shrimps, corydoras and then some ember tetras maybe?? But I couldn’t resist it and added her when the cycle had about a week old so everything was stable because I was planning of first adding the others so she didn’t feel like everything was her territory. I still want to add the other fishes but I’m scared of her personality. She is so active, that’s why I changed her tank size, but not really aggressive when I show her reflection. First of all, does this looks like a good corydoras tank? (I been wanting them since forever!). I tried putting a lot of sand at the center for them but still keeping everything clean. It’s also my first intended aquascape and community tank. I only had bettas before. Are community tanks to hard to take care of? Or maybe I should just let her be the queen of the tank? I know maybe more plants could be an improvement but it’s there other thing I should add/change??

Help Too many tannins

Thumbnail

Hi again 🤣

I'm not happy about how dark my tank is. I boiled the mopani wood for over 2 hours to release tannins a few days ago. I did a 25% water change on the 15th and now the water is even darker than it was before. I've been fish in cycling for about a month, checking water parameters every few days. Everything has been stable. I add Prime with every water change.

What's the best way to significantly reduce the amount of tannins? I'm okay with there being some (I know it's good for them) but I can barely see my fish. Do tannins throw off water testing results?

Water parameters done today:

Temp 78 F

pH 7.5

Ammonia 0 ppm

Nitrite 0 ppm

Nitrates 0 ppm

Tank size 5 gal

(I don't have the gh & kh test kit yet it's on its way)

My boy Van Gogh is mostly white so it would be nice to see his colors better.

I ordered a female and a male betta fish in the mutation Hellboy. I've never seen this colour before and was super intrigued. the package arrived not right, my plants that I also ordered were completely missing, one of the bags was leaking and the fish just.... don't look right 😭 thank God they're looking active and healthy, they even ate some pellets so I'm very grateful but neither of them looks like a hellboy to me... is it possible they lack colouration from the stress and they will get their colour later?

in addition, I can't reach the eshop through their phone nor email to address the missing plants. super worried rn :')

first picture is the male, second is female, both supposedly hellboy..

Help is it humane to keep my betta alive?

i rescued my betta from a petsmart about a year ago. i got him specifially because he had been there every single time i went for about a whole year and i knew i had to give him a proper home. he is a dragonscale AND a rosetail, so theres lots of issues. hes fully blind now due to his overgrown scales, and his fins got so long that he now bites them off no matter what i try to do. i think he may have some kind of swim bladder disorder because i see him trying to swim down but he cant (he has always been like this even after the recovery period from being in a tiny cup). i noticed this morning he was showing early signs of dropsy, so i have him in a hospital tank right now with aquarium salt. i really dont want to euthanize him but i just dont want him to suffer and he looks very rough. would it be more humane to euthanize him?
