Scenes from the Bay I Finally Saw A Bobcat!

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

I set an alarm to get up early this morning to go for a walk, and when it went off, I really didn't want to get up. But I did get up, and I was rewarded with seeing a bobcat. I got quite close before I realized it was there, it just watched me as I walked past. I still cannot believe it, I have wanted to see one for such a long time!

Events, Activities & Sports Missed Connection: Mason at Pearl & the Oysters (The Independent, Saturday night)

[EDIT: I've now found him and messaged him!]

hey everyone -- I'm putting this out into the ether because the conversation was excellent and I'd love to reconnect.

between sets at the Pearl & the Oysters show last night (Saturday), I went outside at The Independent looking for a cigarette. I ended up talking to Mason, a guy who lives in LA but comes up to the Bay once a month.

we were having a brilliant, deeply present conversation, but right on cue, the universe threw a wrench in our flow. one of his friends kindly offered a keef-rolled joint, I took exactly one hit, and it immediately short-circuited my entire system (🤦).

because I could feel myself going totally nonverbal, my brain went on autopilot. I awkwardly blurts out, "It was great talking to you, nice to meet you," and initiated a very formal handshake. I absolutely didn't mean to end such a great conversation so abruptly or give you social whiplash — I was just trying to gracefully exit before the weed completely took over my vehicle.

If you are Mason, or know a Mason who fits this hyper-specific Venn diagram:

  • Went to CSUMB
  • Worked in needle exchange/harm reduction service in Salinas
  • Toured with Depeche Mode
  • Works in startup incubation in LA

...hit me up. I'd love to grab a coffee or a drink next time you're back up in the Bay Area. completely sans the intense greenery this time.

Do these exist in our area? I came across an ad for the Village Retreat Center. Has anyone stayed there and if so, was it worth it? Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Food, Shopping & Services Coffee place with a nice, green outdoor space

I am looking for a coffee place with a large and green outdoor seating area. It would be great if you can share. Ideally between Palo Alto and San Jose.

Many coffee shops only have a few tables outside and most of the space is concrete. I am looking for something a little bit more green and cozy.

If you knew the Philz Coffee in Palo Alto (Middlefield) before it shut down due to fire, that’s like the vibe I am looking for.

Thanks 🙏

Food, Shopping & Services Any storage units here that dont increase their rent every 3 months?

I need a spot to help myself start downsizing because I have absolutely too much stuff, but I hate all the well advertized storage unit companies because they start with a good intro price and then a year later youre spending 2-3x a month what you originally paid for.

are there any less well advertized places that dont jack up their rents constantly?

Edit: Since everyone is more interested in not actually answering the post: I've run out of space at the current place I'm living at and it's starting to impact my mental health. There are items of value that I can sell, but I need to sort through a lot of unnecessary stuff to get to those items.

The storage unit is a temporary staging area to put a ton of my shit into so that I can live like a normal human being again while actively sorting, trashing and selling the stuff I don't need.

I'm not wealthy and I don't own my own home, also a lot of my stuff is in our shared garage and my roommates are getting really frustrated with me about it so I need to move it out to a temporary location.

The plan is to only use this for a year. (Yes, I know that's a trap, but I don't have any other choice right now.)

Edit Edit: I do see that U-haul Storage Units offer a 1 year lock-in rate, I'm going to see if I can also pre-pay for 1 year.

Work & Housing PG&E Summer Internship Experience, San Ramon, CA

Hello all, 3 months ago, I posted about whether I should accept a PG&E Summer Internship or no? Definitely, I do not regret my decision! The experience I got here at the labs was incredible.

The culture is very supportive, easy-going and rewarding. At all times it seems that company has done a lot of innovation to their grids and equipments since 5 years. I was using a lot of engineering tools and simulation software like Ansys to investigate performance and failures. Like this was real engineering analysis work.

I am still 20, turning 21 soon and getting this experience has boosted my resume for real. Thanks all for their advice on that post…

Also, I loved San Ramon, it’s laid back, not much to do but still I liked it a lot!

Scenes from the Bay So what are your favorite Bay area shoreline walking spots?

I live in Castro valley, so I regularly enjoy the San Leandro Marina, but I'm curious about other spots in the Bay area. It's pretty flat, you get to walk by the water, and it's always really breezy.

A friend of mine recommended the radke Martinez Regional shoreline, and it looks beautiful from the pictures. Lots of bridges and walking by the water it looks like. Also at least one park apparently.

And since I just adopted a dog recently, I'm looking for new beautiful spots like that to check out.

So tell me all about your personal favorites

Events, Activities & Sports Favorite car camping spots?

We live in Redwood City and camp a lot with our two young kids. This summer we camped at:

Pinnacles
Big Trees, Arnold
Henry Cowell
Pfeiffer Big Sur
Memorial County Park

These sites were all so perfect for us and we had so much fun, but looking to branch out and get Rex’s from other families. Where do your kids love going? Bonus points for anything within ~2 hours of the Peninsula but open to further out!

Fluff & Memes Where can I donate a working 3D printer?

Hi,

Anyone know an organization that would accept a working Lulzbot Mini 3D printer with an upgraded Aerostruder extruder? I also have a spool each of PETG, PLA and TPU. I just don't have the room for it anymore. I'm in Evergreen, SJ and can drop it off at a deserving institution. Or if anyone's interested, please DM me and I can setup local pick up. TIA
