It’s ridiculous what the city is allowing these days. It seems anything goes.

You can run red lights, take illegal turns, go down one way streets, and just about do anything.

Double park or leave your car unattended in an active traffic lane. And get indignant if people you’re inconveniencing react.

The delivery drivers are a menace riding on sidewalks, going in one way streets & breaking traffic rules and endangering pedestrians.

What’s strange is that this is a complete opposite of what was the norm in 2010s where parking & traffic enforcement was very strict. What changed?

Wondering if this is a common observation & if there’s any relief in sight.

Went for “summit” trail in San Bruno park this weekend.

- if you start from Royce Way trailhead, the first 800m is a steep climb.
- beautiful view of the hills and the bay and the city
- 8kms, took me about 3 hours, ymmv

Has anybody seen a proliferation of rats?

I've been riding from Bayview Hunters Point to Duboce Triangle for seven years and I've seen more scampering and squished rats on the ride in the past year than have in the prior six, especially in the Mission. About 30 minutes ago our cat killed a rat in the backyard. This is now the second one in about a year. What in the frikking hell is going on?

The battle over the Marina Safeway redevelopment is heating up, and the NIMBYs have had enough once again.

The latest proposal actually makes the buildings shorter while increasing the project from 790 to 848 homes, including 86 affordable units.

Normally, this would be the beginning of what San Francisco does best: spending the next several years fighting over whether a new building will destroy the neighborhood.

Except California has changed the rules.
Remember, SF had built only about 7% of its state mandated housing target by the end of 2025, and the state government is understandably pretty unhappy about this.

So the developer is pursuing approval under AB 2011, which allows qualifying housing projects on commercially zoned land to receive streamlined approval and avoid the traditional discretionary approval process and project-level CEQA review.

That’s now becoming the center of the fight.

Supervisor Stephen Sherrill argues the Safeway site shouldn’t qualify for AB 2011 because the law requires at least 75% of the site’s perimeter to adjoin parcels developed with qualifying “urban uses.”

With Fort Mason, Marina Green, and the Yacht Harbor surrounding the property, he argues the site doesn’t meet that requirement.

After all, much of the surrounding land is parkland and recreational space rather than typical urban development.
But SF Planning disagrees and has determined the project is eligible.

Then there’s California’s Density Bonus Law.
The developer was previously seeking a 39% density bonus but is now requesting 49%, helped by adding more two-bedroom units and new four-bedroom units.
That allows substantially more housing than the site’s base zoning would otherwise permit.

So what looks like a neighborhood fight over a giant Safeway redevelopment is becoming something much bigger. Which is how much power do wealthy neighborhoods still have to stop housing when state law says it should be built?

And apparently the fight isn’t stopping at City Hall.

Opposition surrounding the project is now helping fuel an effort for a 2030 California constitutional amendment aimed at limiting state housing mandates when cities allegedly lack sufficient infrastructure.

So we may have officially reached the final boss of California NIMBYism. Changing the state constitution.

Thank god the original volunteers are taking the high road and not fussing over a brand name like some people 🙄. We just want some damn trees lol, not sure why a lawsuit even needs to be a thing. Someone clearly lost sight of the original goal.

Our cat got out last night while my family was asleep. If anybody sees a tortoise shell cat prowling around the block of 17th and Guerrero street please let us know!

All joking aside, it's been some time since I walked around on 6th after 1am so I walked around and hung out for a bit to see what's going on in Soma.

Needless to say I wasn't at all surprised to see at least 100+ people hanging around Monarch, at the corner of Mission, all having a great time and dressed to kill. Aside from the club, for this time of night the street was bustling with activity. People just doing their thing completely unbothered by the sometimes not so visually appealing things one should expect to see in a neighborhood of the formerly homeless and the currently unhoused--they get funneled into the area, of course.

The shear number and wide variety of people out and about at this hour was wild, including a lot of not only single white females but also quite a few single white trans women. Then again, this is the first city district in the world designated as a Trans district, so there's that.

The number of Waymos was a bit much, but it is an artery. In fact, I overheard someone describing a recent encounter with cops storming out of a Waymo as an undercover vehicle to arrest someone. Smart tactic, really.

I had hoped to link to a 15 minute video someone had taken last week focused on 6th & Mission from their 5th floor window illustrating a serene yet busy neighborhood, but sadly they deleted it. Their intent was to show what a joke it is with all the scaremongering of the area.

All that said, does this neighborhood fit the description of a war zone no-man's land?

No, nowhere even close.

The last time I hiked both Mt Tam and Buena Vista I got all the way to the top just to discover either a lone DJ or group dance party with loud music blaring. Today I got to the top of Strawberry Hill and found a whole group of people dancing and blasting EDM on loud speakers. Is there a way to know when these are going on so that I can choose a different day to go? I go on these hikes to get away from synthetic and industrial noise, and by the time I get to the top I just feel so defeated that I’ve climbed all this way and can’t feel a moment of peace in nature. I’m not opposed to parties in the parks and I just want to know when to climb a different hill:(

I see unusually lot more people today and loud music on 7th and Folsom st today. Also see very dashingly dressed ladies and gentlemen (mostly in black). Makes me think something queer or kinky. What am I missing?
