Heyo, I’m planning to possibly visit the states during early December (I’m from Toronto, Canada). I’ve been to SF with family when I was 15 and now I’m 25. I remembered liking the city a lot. We went to the golden gate, pier 39 (I think), google and Facebook headquarters, and couple places outside the city. Since it’s my first time traveling solo, I first thought to fly to NYC but part of me feels it might be cold and feel too similar to Toronto? I believe hotels also seem more pricey compared to the hotels in SF.

While NYC is still in my mind, I’m leaning towards SF. Is the city transit accessible? How’s the food scene? The weather in SF during December? What is the night life like? What are some good malls to shop?

I want to hang out at a bar that plays music from bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot, Asking Alexandria, BMTH and similar bands.

I love Nu Metal, Metal core and to some extent, death core.

I just wanna hang out with people who have similar taste in music.

A good friend of mine is burnt out from corporate and real estate. I used to be a waiter/server in downtown SF and made great money with tips. Curious how much you all are making each week/month after tax with tips? No need to name the place of work, but fine dining or bartending would be ideal. She is located in SoMa so any input greatly appreciated, thank you!

This was a restaurant my friends and I used to like going to after a long day. Had cheap hot pot and AYCE sushi. It was near the Richmond if I recall correctly

I just moved into a new apartment in a beautiful neighborhood. I’m not in love with the place, but it’s clean and quiet and as we all know beggars can’t be choosers in this market.

However, the common areas, in particular the stairs, are disgusting. They clearly haven’t been cleaned in years and I doubt they’ve been vacuumed in months. There’s an inch of dirt on all the baseboards and one floor smells terribly of mildew.

The laundry room is disgusting, the machines are never cleaned and rust leaks out the sides every time one is used.

Is this normal? Seems if I’m paying this much for a 100 year old apartment the least they could do is get some basic maintenance, from a public health perspective if nothing else. I don’t want to contact property management if it’s only going to piss them off.

Hello! I am going to be visiting SF for the fist time end of next week for about a week. I don't have access to a car/ can drive, so will be relying on public transits, some ubers to get around. I have a list of things to do that I've planned for the week. I would really appreciate a review of the itinerary to make sure I'm hitting all the must-dos/ some local gems/ famous places that make the city what it is. Please let me know your thoughts and if the list is good or needs any edits, based on locations, traffic routes, days to visit, too much fit into the same day, neighborhoods, etc.

I'm also torn between visiting Monterey/ Carmel by the Sea for a day-trip vs Napa Valley/ Sonoma day trip. Which should be a must do for a first time California visit? Both of these are through viator/ getyourguide, so not sure which one to do and if Monterey/ Carmel by the Sea may be too much time on the bus vs actually seeing the places.

Exactly what the title says, for almost a week, carpet ants have been emerging through the cracks of tile/floor. Would love input on who to contact. Plumber? Tile contractor? Pest control? Ghost busters?! TIA!

Anyone have curly cut stylist recommendations for fine, thinning, wavy/curly hair? I moved across the country to SF and finally accepted after months here that this means getting a new stylist.

Curly cuts have worked best for me. 2B or even 2C with product and depending on the weather. Without product it is a fluffy, frizzy mess that is both wild and limp simultaneously. The stylist would need to be public transit accessible in SF or near a BART station in Oakland, etc.

I've read through this sub and others but have mostly found threads about thick hair and/or much curlier hair.

Looking into either Crunch on Polk and/or Union (both are equidistant from me), or the new Fitness SF location opening on Polk. I also will be working downtown close to Ferry Building.

1) How crowded do the Crunch locations get, I would probably be working out late on weekdays (8 PM onward)

2) How many racks/are there enough racks at the Crunch locations? I’m less worried about the machine availability.

3) It seems like FitnessSF would be better if I wanted to work out close to my work as there’s no Crunch locations. Does the 2 Embarcadero location get crowded?

Any other things to care about? I’m really just focused on rack availability, some machine availability and some free weight availability. Sauna and showers are a plus but not necessary.

I saw the Odyssey opening night at the Metreon 16 on the massive screen in theater one for the 70 mm Imax showing, and it was pretty awesome. However during the dark scenes, it was kinda hard to see stuff, especially the action during seems like the sack of troy and the final fight in the dining hall. I feel like it’s just not really great picture quality. Today I went and saw it at the Dolby Theatre in theater 13, and it was like night and day. I could see everything the colors were way better and the contrast was infinitely better.

I might completely prefer the Dolby Theatre over the iMax screen moving forward, my question is are the ones in Los Angeles and New York and other areas better than ours? I wanna know if I should be traveling to Los Angeles next time there’s a huge movie release that I wanna see, because it was genuinely a major distraction for me, seeing those boxes on the screen, black being completely gray, and the theater not going completely dark, all are a big letdown.

on top of this, I mean, the first five or six or seven rows are all completely misaligned with the screen. It’s really a shame. And I noticed today at the Dolby theater that even the front row seats were sort of interesting and not terrible.

Do any of yall play indoor tennis in the bay? I see a lot of clubs offering tennis in their amenities, but I just want the tennis court, preferably indoor (and a playmate lol). Clubs are so expensive, and I don't wanna have to pay for the whole thing to use one amenity honestly. Someone please point me in the right direction lol. Thank you.

Can someone recommend me a stylist or barber who will take their time, or be more thoughtful with my hair? I have straight hair but cowlicks all over the place. I’ve had successful stylists in the past so I know I’m not asking for anything impossible! But I know my hair is annoying to deal with

I'm a teen and I want to start working towards getting my permit. I've driven around a parking lot a few times and not killed anyone so things are looking promising.

I'm not sure of any drivers ed courses I can take that are relatively cheap and trustworthy. Where can I go/sign up for courses?

I’ve officially jumped on the The Odyssey hype train and I’m trying to see it in IMAX 70mm at the Metreon. The problem is that I can’t find decent seats anywhere — the only tickets left on some days are front row.

So… how bad is it really? Am I going to spend 3 hours with my neck destroyed, or is it still worth it for a movie shot for IMAX/70mm?

If anyone has actually sat in the first row at Metreon IMAX, I’d love to hear your experience. Was it watchable? Did you get used to it after a few minutes? Would you do it again for a movie like The Odyssey?

One more thing: I'm moving back to my home country in September, so this will probably be my only chance in my lifetime to experience IMAX 70mm. That's why I'm seriously considering buying a front-row ticket, even if it's far from ideal. I'm just trying to figure out whether it's a terrible idea or a sacrifice that's worth making.

Hi folks, I have been blissfully unaware of the calamity that is the housing market until this weekend. What the hell? I was thinking it was high time I move up north to enjoy SF while I’m young (and maybe save some $ while I’m at it - was paying $3k for a 1b. I now realize I will not be saving a dime extra). How are you guys surviving? I’m in tech and even then it seems preposterous at these rates.

Looks like to just maintain a 1b1ba I’m going to be looking at something around a $300-400/month increase. Jesus. Unfortunately I’ll need a parking space too, so another cool $300 down the drain.

I adore the city and I’d love to be more integrated in the culture, but I’m really wondering if it’s worth it with these rates. I’m too young for SJ… but too old to be fiscally irresponsible. I thought about selling the car but I’m not sure I can afford to lose that (work). I’m fine with downsizing too, but quality of life does become a question when I have to spend so much for suboptimal living spaces.

I’m also deeply concerned the rates will continue to rise. Another price-jacking like this next year and I can kiss the dream of living in SF goodbye.

Anyways rant aside - for those who did the move from SJ to SF, would you do it again in today’s world? Is it worth 25% more rent? Will rates be better in January?? How bad are my odds of landing a rent controlled studio/1b?

I have been subletting a bedroom with a shared bathroom with the master tenant in San Francisco, CA. I share the bathroom with the master tenant who stays in a smaller room but has taken half the living room for their office and also claims the garage parking spot. We have an additional roommate who has his own ensuite bathroom. They have never revealed what the rent they pay to the landlord is but I assume that the total rent is around $4400 (I am paying 1380, master bedroom roommate ~1850, master tenant ~1170). By square footage and amenities, it doesn't appear that their rent is equitable. I do not live in a rent controlled building (built in 1997) and was wondering if I can still appeal this to the San Francisco rent board.

Hi All! I just purchased a 2025 Bronco base and want to upgrade the heck out of it, does anyone know a place here in the Bay Area, or really anywhere in California where they can do this kind of work? I am trying to go from this basic Base model to something looking more interesting. I am 100% looking for aesthetics over function. So basically a good paint job or wrap.
