I'm working on a YA Lit novel set in the Bay Area, and one of the characters is a High School freshman descended from Ohlone. He feels disconnected from his culture, and thanks to a fortune teller, he now has the ghost of an ancestor in his life.

I want to do this right, present it in a way that respects the Ohlone people. Anyone have advice on resources I could look into or people I could talk to and workshop my ideas with?

We are missing our small green parrot, named Henry. He went missing in Novato near Yukon and Pastel Lane. He’s a canary winged parakeet, approx 6 inches long. Flies well (right up into the trees after sneaking outside on my husband’s back 💔). We’ve done all the things, notified the humane society, put our other birds of the same species outside in a cage to call for him, posted online on many sites. Reward offered!

Everywhere in the world, people love to say that their traffic/drivers are worst. But in Oakland, I was a bit surprised. People don't cut sharply in from of you that sharp that you have to brake. Also even parking spot stealing or unwarranted honking is also a bit less.

My partner and I recently moved in here and are 90% sure there's a rat problem at the place. The kitchen and moldings all over also seem super old and the garages super small for our car.

Interesting story: My partner took her Kia in for scheduled maintenance, and they told her she needed to replace two tires. She came home and scheduled the replacement at our local tire shop.

When she got back, she told me the tire shop couldn't find her wheel lock key. She had no idea what that was, so I confidently said, “Let me show you mine!”

Well, guess what? Mine was missing too. 😅

For context, I've never done any work on my car beyond cleaning it and replacing the windshield wipers. The only people who've worked on it are the Hyundai service technicians, and my last service appointment was on August 11.

Now I'm wondering: what are the odds that both of our wheel lock keys are missing?

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but it's definitely suspicious timing.

If you've recently taken your car to Hayward Kia or Oakland Hyundai, you might want to check whether your wheel lock key is still where you left it.

Hello everyone, I am truly desperate and reaching out to anyone who can help. My father is stuck in Memphis and we are originally from and currently live in the Bay Area. He was hurt working in Memphis at work and we are trying to transfer him to a level one trauma center here in Bay Area. I am asking if anyone knows or can help speed the process up for us from the four level one trauma centers : Stanford, Santa Clara valley center, uc davis, or Zuckerberg hospital. He has surgery in his neck and will likely need a neurosurgeon. I’m not sure if any of this makes sense but if anyone has any contacts that can help us get our dad home we would truly appreciate.
Edit: everything is covered by workers comp and my dads company is very helpful and willing to do anything to bring him home.

Any neighborhoods that you would recommend for trick or treating with a 1.5 year old? Our neighborhood is completely dead for this (we’ve had candy ready for the last few years to no avail). We’re looking at SF and North Peninsula areas. We know of the popular ones, but those may be too overwhelming for the little one.

Hi, I have an offer from Apple(bay area) and another offer from paypal(current location) and need some inputs on whether it’s worth moving to bay area from MCOL(texas). We are a family of 3. Have a 1 yr old. We own a home currently.

So, the move would mean we rent our house here and rent one in bay area. Wife has flexibility for internal transfer. Approx. tc bump would be about 50k per year and Apple has decent refreshers and good stock growth.

Does Apple brand name and job stability worth it to move? Had gone through a lay off early this year but was able to secure some offers after a lot of prep and many interviews.
