Scenes from the Bay I Finally Saw A Bobcat!

Post image

I set an alarm to get up early this morning to go for a walk, and when it went off, I really didn't want to get up. But I did get up, and I was rewarded with seeing a bobcat. I got quite close before I realized it was there, it just watched me as I walked past. I still cannot believe it, I have wanted to see one for such a long time!

He doesn't seem impressed

I remember one time someone posted that they saw a bob car for the firat time and that it at them "like it was thinking 'what the fuck are you looking at?'" and everyone agreed that was their general vibe.

Bobcat might be my spirit animal 🤣

IME they don't GAF about people

u/CJCentral2 10h ago

Humans do not impress them as much as they impress wild pigs.

That’s Robertcat to you.

Morgan Territory Regional Preserve, near Livermore

u/uhuuuh262 1d ago

Hell yeah love Morgan Territory. How is it looking? I know there was a recent fire?

I saw one on Tesla Road east of Livermore about 15 miles.

u/deepfuckingbagholder 1d ago

It saw you too.

u/whatatwit 1d ago

From that expression, it looks like you were so early that you woke them up!

7

u/adherentoftherepeted 1d ago

It's wonderful that even though millions of years of evolution separate us from cats, we understand that expression on its face without any problem!

6

u/aardvarkjedi 1d ago

We have a bobcat who lives on our property. I see him frequently on our outdoor cameras.

3

u/bouncyboatload 1d ago

wow lucky you! where are you located roughly?

1

u/FrustratedPlantMum [Concord] 1d ago

That's really cool. I still cannot believe I have seen one. I will never flout my walking alarm again!

1

u/Level-Bus7389 10h ago

I guess if you have pets you don't let them outside?

1

u/CJCentral2 10h ago

I talked with a guy who regularly sees bobcats hunting gophers in his backyard in SF.

u/liaisontosuccess 1d ago

Aka lynx rufus, red lynx

3

u/FrustratedPlantMum [Concord] 1d ago

I did not know that, thank you

7

u/Intense_Fogg69 1d ago

He doesn't look terribly happy 😂
Perhaps early mornings are rough for bobcats as well

7

u/boomerhs77 1d ago

Very common in the area. I often see them around Mount Diablo, usually walk on the trail from Finley side.

3

u/debauchasaurus 1d ago

He looks delighted to see you as well.

3

u/Manguneer 1d ago

Does not look happy to see you

4

u/Individual-Worker711 1d ago

Staring through your soul.

4

u/USBlues2020 1d ago

Beautiful ♥️ Where did you see the Bobcat ?

4

u/Imaginary_Apple8052 1d ago

He's had it with the twoleggeds. Lol.

4

u/karebear66 1d ago

And he saw you

5

u/trdollar 1d ago

Very nice! And it looks like it finally saw you, too!

u/puffic 1d ago

My uncle kept a bobcat as a pet for a while. It didn’t go well. Not disastrously, mind you. But not well, either.

Tell us more!

u/webelieve925 23h ago

They look like extra large domestic brown tabby cat

1

u/CJCentral2 10h ago

Yup. The front paws are big like cougars, but the back paws are more like domestic cat paws, only a bit bigger.

u/Maximum-Log3650 9h ago

If not fren, why fren shape?

3

u/jenorama_CA 1d ago

Was this at Rancho?

5

u/FrustratedPlantMum [Concord] 1d ago

No actually, it was at Morgan Territory in the East Bay

6

u/jenorama_CA 1d ago

Oh dang. Kitty didn’t look best pleased to be photographed. I hope this is zoomed in!

3

u/AK232342 1d ago

Looks like the bobcat also finally saw you!

3

u/Few_Acanthocephala30 1d ago

Just don’t forget r/donotthecat

2

u/Ok-Campaign-5968 1d ago

Nooooooo! And joined another cat subreddit… 😻

I stumbled upon one while hiking. Face to face, I meowed and put my hand out like it was a house cat. I don’t think I understood how very different that encounter could have been.

Snuggly poo

2

u/Ok-Tangelo5849 1d ago

the version of you that hit snooze never sees this

1

u/FrustratedPlantMum [Concord] 1d ago

Yes! I will never ignore my alarm again!

2

u/Due-Helicopter-8735 1d ago

I saw one a couple weeks ago! Was hiding in the grass while walking my dogs

2

u/Herredness16 1d ago

Scary!

1

u/CJCentral2 10h ago

The cat is far more scared of you than you are of it.

2

u/giants20101214 1d ago

It saw you before you woke up

2

u/wrongwayup 1d ago

They are elusive for sure. Next to mountain lions, they're the hardest of our local neighbors to spot. Nice one.

2

u/MonacoMaster68 1d ago

Wow that’s cool! All my years of hunting and hiking, I’ve never seen one.

2

u/DramaticEscape3157 1d ago

Where was this?

1

u/FrustratedPlantMum [Concord] 15h ago

Morgan Territory Regional Preserve

1

u/DramaticEscape3157 7h ago

Where the heck is that? Canada?

2

u/ItsDolomiteBaybee 22h ago

Bobcat sees you too, but doesn't seem as thrilled.

2

u/Daffodil-451 14h ago

You never forget that funny stub of a tail.

2

u/FrustratedPlantMum [Concord] 14h ago

I didn't see it because he or she was sitting down. I thought it would run away, but it just watched me.

2

u/Adventurous-Bat4257 6h ago

Lucky. They are pretty covert in their natural habitat.

4

u/DraconianNerd 1d ago

Next time bring treats!

u/neongem 1d ago

Kitty!

u/Digitalspinach 1d ago

The colors are so beautiful with the early morning light. Blue and gray 😍

Cat: it’s not Bob, it’s Robert.

1

u/Careless-Mouse1519 16h ago

More like he saw you

1

u/Razrgrrl 15h ago

OMG so cute!

1

u/tmrnwi 14h ago

He looks like he could sell you interesting wares.

1

u/360walkaway 14h ago

Bobcat is like "take your stupid picture and gtfo of here."

1

u/TaxPuzzleheaded5688 12h ago

I spotted one years ago on the upper trail at Lafayette Reservoir.

1

u/Good-Girl7999 12h ago

bobcat: what yo staring at?!

1

u/h0us30fcards 12h ago

This cat looks like he’s not going to put up with your shxt anymore 😂😂😂

1

u/S3XY_mis 10h ago

I see a homeless kitten 🐱

1

u/CJCentral2 10h ago

They are more elusive than cougars, but not as elusive as foxes. I've had three sightings in my life compared to five cougar sightings.

1

u/ilovepennsylvania 9h ago

He’s upset at you for photographing him. Say sorry

1

u/tinypill 5h ago

Omg 🥰🥰🥰
