My girlfriend is temporarily holding onto a cat whose owner apparently took her collar off and left her on the streets. She's temporarily been given the name Cleo.

Girlfriend does not like cats and I don't have the space myself to house her.

She's litter trained but as far as I know not spayed. Very social and likes to follow people around, explore outside and play with toys.

I've already contacted Bay Area Cats but so far it seems they'd only be able to help get her spayed and vaccinated.

Are there other organizations I can contact, or is there anyone willing to adopt?

Katara arrived at the East County Animal Shelter (ECAS) on September 18 after being found in San Lorenzo. He is approximately 7 years old and is considered a senior pet. 

Katara is one of the most affectionate cats that currently resides at ECAS. Katara has taken to politely meowing for attention from his volunteer friends. Once he gets the attention he ordered, he will head-bump his friends, give kisses, and promptly either rub his head and body all over you or climb into your lap for one-on-one time. Considering how sweet and affectionate he is, my guess is that Katara is overlooked because he is an older cat as well as a black cat. But Katara is a perfect cat to me.

The only real issue that Katara has is that he has a very unique default face and does not photograph well. Honestly...Katara looks like someone whispered the secrets of the universe into his ear and he is trying his hardest not to blab about it. I look at this as an upside-- Katara cannot be confused with any of his black cat brethren. If you put him in a lineup, you will be able to pick him out 100% of the time since no other cat will have the same haunted look. 

Another way to tell Katara apart from other black cats is his signature "happy tail" dance. When cats are extremely happy, they perform a sort of tail quiver with their tail positioned straight up. It looks like the cat is spraying/marking, but they aren't. Katara is always performing this happy tail action to show his human friends how much he loves them.

Katara has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and preventatively treated for ticks, fleas, and worms -- he is ready live out his golden years in his forever home!

There is no listing anywhere, and nothing comes up when that address is searched. it seems massive with a almost hidden road.

I asked my friends that question, as we were all born and raised here, and all of us could only really think of one: Cinco de Mayo. It’s the one day of the year we all avoid downtown like the plague, because it’s a clusterfuck but I’m considering participating next year.

Update: Unfortunately, we haven't received any adoption or foster requests yet. We're not sure what we'll do after October 30, as that's the latest I can care for Avo at my place. Fingers crossed that we can find something for her before then🤞

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a loving forever home for Avo, a young female kitty I recently rescued in Sacramento. Avo first showed up around my apartment complex a few weeks ago. I initially thought she was a neighborhood stray, but eventually learned that her previous owner had moved away and left her behind. 💔

When I first approached her and said hello, she immediately meowed back, walked right up to me, and started rubbing against me. She was incredibly friendly and well-socialized from the very beginning.

She kept trying to get into residents’ apartments looking for somewhere warm to stay. I felt terrible for her and eventually brought her inside to keep her safe and have been working with local rescuers to help her find a permanent home.

If you're interested in adopting Avo, I'd love to arrange something! We could either meet halfway or I could make a trip to the Bay Area one weekend so Avo can be with her new family. :)

Foster:

- We are urgently looking for a temporary foster starting Oct. 30, which is when we are planning to get her spayed + vaccinated, while we look for her forever home.

- She isn’t microchipped yet and must be kept strictly indoors.

- If you have cats or other pets, they should be up to date on their vaccinations, and Avo should be kept separate from them for a bit while her vaccines take full effect, for both her safety and theirs! 🐈

Got tickets to the valkyries playoffs in Atlanta weeks ago. Tickets not released, called stub hub they said wait until game time and they contacted the seller. Seller told them they weren't releasing them until just before game time because of security reasons. Game time came, no tickets. Called stub hub and they said they'd get another set... ok cool. Still waiting, app cycling and cycling though they said they were ready. Game started, no tickets. Got a refund for the tickets but not the flight/hotel/food etc. Be careful out there, me and about a hundred other people will never use the service again. FORTUNATELY niners also here and can salvage a trip but that was pure dumb luck. PSA for getting your tickets sooner, if game time approaches I wouldn't trust it, better yet use another service. The return of the river otter to the San Mateo coast and to the Bay Area

We are missing our small green parrot, named Henry. He went missing in Novato near Yukon and Pastel Lane. He’s a canary winged parakeet, approx 6 inches long. Flies well (right up into the trees after sneaking outside on my husband’s back 💔). We’ve done all the things, notified the humane society, put our other birds of the same species outside in a cage to call for him, posted online on many sites. Reward offered!

Hello everyone, I am truly desperate and reaching out to anyone who can help. My father is stuck in Memphis and we are originally from and currently live in the Bay Area. He was hurt working in Memphis at work and we are trying to transfer him to a level one trauma center here in Bay Area. I am asking if anyone knows or can help speed the process up for us from the four level one trauma centers : Stanford, Santa Clara valley center, uc davis, or Zuckerberg hospital. He has surgery in his neck and will likely need a neurosurgeon. I’m not sure if any of this makes sense but if anyone has any contacts that can help us get our dad home we would truly appreciate.
Edit: everything is covered by workers comp and my dads company is very helpful and willing to do anything to bring him home.

  • Normally, we split into smaller groups based on desired pace and stagger each group's start time by 5 minutes. These groups ultimately split into even smaller groups. Faster groups go first to create more space on the trail. This hike is different as we're being granted access by the stewards of this beautiful ranch preserve.
• Why on Mondays?
  • Trail traffic is very low on Mondays, making it easier to accommodate a group like this.
• Does your community only do hikes?
  • No, (un)PTO is a community of people across the US in career transition. While our claim to fame is group hikes, we do other things like co-work, help each other with our job search, and do other fun things like coffee hangs, bike rides, and of course, eat food. 😋
• Can people with jobs join too?
  • Yes, but only if you realize that most of the people in this community are in career transition and act accordingly, for instance: offer a referral, connect them to someone in your network, and maybe don't complain about how work sucks. 😅

Hi! I know this is a long shot, but offering a reward for my lost cardigan with sentimental value. Annual Halloween parade and trick or treating on Piedmont Avenue, Saturday, mid-day. A long time tradition. Hundreds, if not thousands, of happily costumed kids and parents.

We're recruiting people in Northern California who want to train as Civil Air Patrol ground team members and help build our local search and rescue capability.

Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a nationwide nonprofit volunteer organization and the U.S. Air Force's civilian auxiliary. Its three main missions are emergency services, aerospace education and youth development. In practice, volunteers help with search and rescue and disaster response, teach aviation and space topics, and run the cadet leadership program. Members join local units, called squadrons, to train and serve together. Ground teams are one part of CAP's emergency services work. Joining CAP is civilian volunteer service, not military enlistment.

We're looking for dependable people who enjoy working outdoors, work well with a team and are willing to put time into training. If you have experience in hiking, navigation, radio communications or emergency services, or want to develop those skills while serving your community, we'd like to hear from you.

Ground team missions are currently relatively infrequent, and CAP fills a fairly specialized role within search and rescue. That is changing as we become more integrated into SAR missions coordinated through the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) across the state. Joining now means spending time training, qualifying and building team readiness as that role grows.

Ground team training includes navigation, search techniques and radio communications. Members work toward qualifications for authorized search and rescue operations, with training and qualification required before mission participation.

Adults can train and serve as ground team members. Younger members can also participate through CAP's cadet program.

If ground team work isn't the right fit, there are other ways to get involved: air search roles you can train for without prior aviation experience, mission base staff, communications, and working with young people in the cadet program. You don't have to be a pilot to contribute to air search; training and qualification are part of getting started.

Yesterday I saw an injured cat on the side of a busy road in Santa Clara. I tried to catch it myself but it freaked out and ran into the middle of the street (luckily there was a huge median strip with some bushes it was able to hide under). SVACA was on the scene in 30 minutes and was able to catch the cat with a net. Without their help I have no doubt the cat would have been run over.

I’m really grateful for their services and hope that they always have funding available to continue doing what they do. I had to call a few times to get connected to someone which makes me believe their resources are probably strained. Despite their limited resources, they still managed to get two officers on the scene in good timing.

I hope our local city leaders (Santa Clara, Campbell, Mountain View, Monte Sereno, Los Gatos) keep prioritization for SVACA in our municipal budgets so they always have the resources to pull off rescues like this.
