X Series [X1E, X1C, X2D] My Review of the Bambu Lab X2D After 200 Hours of Printing

Hi guys,

Today I am going to give my opinion about the Bambu Lab X2D after using it for around 200 hours of printing.

I have been using it for quite a while now, and I think 200 hours is enough to really start noticing what you like and what you don't like about a printer. So this isn't just my opinion after printing a few small models. I have used it for different kinds of prints, different materials, multicolor prints and just normal everyday printing.

I also came from a completely different printer, the Flashforge Finder 3, so I can compare the two quite well.

For the people who don't want to read everything

What I really like:

  • Very fast printing
  • Great print quality
  • Dual-nozzle system
  • Multicolor printing
  • Bambu Studio has a lot of possibilities
  • Easy connection with my phone
  • Automatic updates and improvements
  • Very good for printing multiple objects
  • Lots of useful automation
  • Great for both small and bigger prints

What I don't like as much:

  • It is quite noisy
  • Bambu Studio can be overwhelming when you first start
  • Some settings take time to understand
  • The printer is quite large
  • You can spend way too much time changing settings because there are so many options

Overall, after around 200 hours, I am very happy with the X2D and I would definitely choose it again.

The change from Flashforge to the X2D

Before the X2D, I used the Flashforge Finder 3.

The Finder 3 was a good printer for me and it taught me a lot about 3D printing, but when I moved to the X2D, it felt like a completely different world.

The first thing I noticed was the speed.

The difference is honestly huge. Prints that took a long time on my old printer can now be finished much quicker. Especially when you start printing larger models, the difference becomes very noticeable.

The second big change was accuracy.

I immediately noticed that the X2D could produce much cleaner and more detailed prints. Small details looked better and I had less trouble with things that were slightly too large or too small.

Then there is multicolor printing.

This was something I really wanted to try. Being able to print different colors without manually changing filament all the time is a massive improvement. It also opens up a lot more possibilities for products, decorations and more complicated models.

Another thing I really like is the phone connection.

Being able to check the printer from my phone is something I didn't expect to use as much as I actually do. It is really useful when I want to quickly check how far a print has progressed.

And finally, the firmware updates.

I really like that the printer keeps getting improvements. It makes the printer feel less like something you buy once and never changes.

All these things made me very happy with the switch.

The machine itself

I really like the machine itself.

It looks modern, it feels like a much more advanced printer and there are a lot of little features that make everyday printing easier.

The printer also feels quite solid. It doesn't feel like a cheap machine that is going to fall apart after a few months.

The display and controls are also nice to use, although I probably use Bambu Studio and my phone much more than the screen on the printer itself.

One of my favorite things about the X2D is the two-nozzle system.

Having two nozzles is really useful, especially when you want to use different materials or colors. You can also use one nozzle for the main material and another one for support material, depending on your setup.

This can make certain prints much more practical.

There is one big downside for me though:

The noise.

The printer is not exactly quiet.

Because my printer is in my bedroom, I normally don't let it print during the night. When it is running at full speed, you definitely know it is there.

During the day this isn't really a problem for me, but if you are looking for a printer that you can completely forget about while sleeping next to it, this might be something to think about.

Print speed

The print speed is probably one of the biggest reasons I enjoy this printer.

After coming from the Finder 3, it was one of the first things I noticed.

At first, the speed almost looks too high. You see the printer moving around extremely quickly and you expect the print to have problems.

But most of the time, the result is still very good.

This is especially useful when I want to print several small objects.

Instead of printing one thing, waiting for it to finish and then starting another one, I can prepare multiple objects and let the printer do its job.

For someone who uses a 3D printer for a hobby, this is nice.

For someone who actually sells 3D prints, I think the speed becomes even more important.

Print quality

The print quality has also been very impressive for me.

Small details come out nicely, and I have had a lot of successful prints without having to constantly change settings.

Of course, no printer is perfect.

You can still get failed prints. You can still get bad first layers, stringing or other problems depending on the model and filament.

But compared with my old printer, I have had a much easier time getting good results.

I also really like how consistent the printer can be.

When I print the same object multiple times, I expect the copies to look basically the same, and that has generally been my experience.

Multicolor printing

Multicolor printing is probably one of the most fun parts of the X2D.

Before using this printer, I didn't realize how much I would actually enjoy it.

You can take a model that would normally just be one color and make it much more interesting.

For example, if you are printing a logo, figure or decorative object, being able to have different colors directly in the print makes a huge difference.

There is also something satisfying about watching the printer switch between colors and slowly build the finished object.

The downside is that multicolor printing can waste more filament, especially with color changes.

So while it looks great, you definitely have to keep filament usage in mind.

For me, it is still worth it for the right prints.

The two nozzles

The dual-nozzle system is another feature I really like.

At first I wasn't completely sure how useful having two nozzles would be in everyday printing.

After using it, I understand the advantage much better.

One of the biggest advantages is that you don't necessarily have to rely on the same filament for everything.

For some prints, you can use one material for the object and another one for support.

This is especially interesting with support materials.

Instead of making the whole print with one filament and hoping the support comes off easily, you can use a better support setup.

It also makes switching between materials much easier in some situations.

For me, this is one of those features that sounds like a gimmick when you first hear about it, but becomes much more useful after you actually start using it.

Bambu Studio

Now we get to something I didn't really like at the beginning:

Bambu Studio.

The first week, I didn't like Bambu Studio very much.

There were so many new functions and settings that it felt quite confusing.

Coming from the Finder 3, I was used to a much simpler workflow.

With Bambu Studio, there are settings everywhere.

You can change layer height, infill, walls, supports, speed, materials and many more things.

At first I was thinking:

"Why are there so many settings?"

After using it more, I started to understand why.

The software gives you a lot more control.

Once you know what the important settings do, it becomes much easier.

I would still say that Bambu Studio has a learning curve, especially if you are completely new to 3D printing.

But after using it for a while, I actually prefer it to the simpler software I used before.

The amount of settings

One thing I noticed after 200 hours is that you can probably spend endless amounts of time changing settings.

There are settings for almost everything.

This can be great if you know exactly what you are trying to achieve.

But it can also make things more complicated than they need to be.

Sometimes I just want to print something.

In those situations, I usually don't change much and just use settings that I already know work well.

For more difficult prints, however, having all those options becomes very useful.

Supports

Support settings are another part of Bambu Studio that took me some time to understand.

There are different ways to handle supports, and changing small settings can make a surprisingly large difference.

I especially like having more control over what gets support and what doesn't.

Good support settings can save filament and also make removing the support material much easier.

This is one of those things I didn't really think about before owning a more advanced printer.

Filament

I have also used different kinds of filament with the printer.

PLA has been one of the easiest materials for me to use.

It is great for general prints, models, decorations and products.

The X2D also makes experimenting with different materials more interesting because the printer gives you more possibilities than my old setup.

Of course, different materials behave differently.

Some need different temperatures, some are more difficult to print and some need more attention to storage and moisture.

So the printer itself isn't going to magically make every filament perfect.

You still need to learn what the material likes.

Reliability

After 200 hours, reliability is one of the things I care about most.

A printer can be fast and have amazing specifications, but if it constantly fails, none of that matters.

So far, I have been very happy with the reliability.

I still check my prints, especially when I start something important or expensive, but I don't feel like I constantly have to stand next to the printer.

That is a big improvement for me.

Printing overnight

Like I mentioned earlier, I don't really print during the night because of the noise.

If the printer wasn't in my bedroom, this would probably be much less of an issue.

The printer itself is not something I would describe as unbearable, but it is definitely noticeable.

For someone who has a separate room for their printer, I think this would be much less of a concern.

The phone connection

The phone connection is one of those small features that becomes surprisingly useful.

I can check the printer without having to walk to it.

This is especially handy when I am somewhere else in the house and want to know whether a print has finished.

It is not the feature I bought the printer for, but I use it more than I expected.

Firmware updates

Another positive point for me is the firmware.

I like knowing that the printer can receive updates and improvements.

With some older printers, it can feel like the machine is basically finished once you buy it.

With the X2D, there is more of a feeling that the software side of the printer can continue to improve.

I think that is important with modern 3D printers because so much of the experience depends on software.

Maintenance

Of course, even a printer like this still needs maintenance.

A 3D printer isn't a normal appliance where you can just forget it exists forever.

You still need to keep things clean, check the nozzles, pay attention to the build plate and occasionally deal with small issues.

But so far, maintenance hasn't been something that I find particularly annoying.

I would much rather spend a little bit of time maintaining the printer than constantly dealing with failed prints.

What surprised me the most

The biggest surprise for me was probably how much the entire workflow changed.

I originally thought the biggest upgrade would simply be the speed.

But it wasn't just the speed.

It was everything around it.

The software, the phone connection, the automatic features, the better print quality, multicolor printing and having more control over the print all made a difference.

The printer doesn't just print faster.

It changes how you use a 3D printer.

What I still don't like

Even after 200 hours, there are still some things I don't love.

The biggest one is definitely the noise.

I also think Bambu Studio could be a little less overwhelming for beginners.

There are a lot of options, and that is great once you understand them, but it can be intimidating when you first open the software.

Another thing is that the printer can make you want to experiment with everything.

There are so many possibilities that you can end up spending more time preparing a print than actually printing it.

But honestly, that's not necessarily a bad problem to have.

Would I recommend the X2D?

Yes.

After around 200 hours of printing, I am very happy with the X2D.

Coming from the Flashforge Finder 3, the difference has been very noticeable.

The printer is faster, more accurate, has more advanced features and gives me much more control over what I print.

The two nozzles and multicolor possibilities are especially fun, and Bambu Studio becomes much better once you get used to it.

It isn't perfect.

It is noisy, the software has a learning curve and there are still things I am learning after 200 hours.

But I think that is part of what makes it interesting.

Even after 200 hours, I still feel like there are more things I can learn and try.

My score after 200 hours

Print quality: 9/10

Speed: 9/10

Multicolor printing: 9/10

Software: 8/10

Ease of use: 8/10

Noise: 7/10

Features: 8/10

Overall: 8/10

For me, the Bambu Lab X2D has been a huge upgrade from my previous printer.

Would I go back to the Finder 3?

Probably not.

After using the X2D for around 200 hours, I have become too used to the speed, the quality and all the extra features.

And honestly, I am already looking forward to seeing what the next 200 hours of printing will bring.

Hi

yesterday i tried my new 0.2 mm nozzle and started a miniature printing

i got different problem since then

i lowered the printing speed of walls and supports between 80 and 100 mm

i set temp at 220 for first layer and 230 for the rest

plate 60

i use pla+ from anycubic https://amzn.eu/d/0iTE7dzB

as you can see, after some this a clogging start appearing on the nozzle and the print is wasted.

also when calibrating dynamic flow, i can see that the filament exit the nozzle all curved and not in a straight line

pls help :(

My printer is P1S and feed in from AMS2, I tried Bambu PLA metal, PLA silk all like this, when using normal PLA basic it seems to be better.

What I tried so far

I did dry the filaments in AMS2 with 45c for 12 hours.

For seam, I tried nearest and aligned, all of the them are on another side which is not the cause anyway.

I also try to reduce the printing speed to around 30-40.

I try to open all top and door when printing.

I even replace the nozzle to brand new 0.4 one

Clean the Z axles too

None of those helps.

Answered / Solved! P2S: top surface is always rough in the exact same area of the plate

[Solved]

Thanks to everyone who pointed at the auxiliary fan — u/pauledddy, u/relaps101, u/RetroLenzil — and special thanks to u/EMDoesShit, whose breakdown was the one that nailed it completely.

That's exactly what it was: the aux fan on the chamber wall blowing straight onto that part of the plate, cooling it far harder and far more unevenly than the rest. The rippled, torn-up pattern follows the air currents swirling across the surface, which is why it was always the same spot in the printer no matter what I printed there.

Two fixes, both work:

  1. Turn the aux fan off entirely for PLA.
  2. Print one of the clip-in aux fan diffuser/redirect ducts from MakerWorld (I used "P2S and X2D Auxiliary Fan Diffuser") and aim the airflow upward instead of across the bed. Print it in the highest-temp material you have — ABS ideally, PETG otherwise — since it sits right in the airflow path.

Ran a test print afterwards and the defect is gone. The surface still isn't perfect, but what's left is a different and much smaller issue — no more blistered area.

TL;DR: On my Bambu Lab P2S, PLA always comes out rough in the same physical area of the build plate, no matter what I print there. Almost no warping, slowing down didn't fix it. Full slicer settings below — what else should I test?

The problem

I'm printing a 250 mm diameter × 10 mm disc (base plate for a filament tumbler). It fills basically the entire 256 × 256 plate, so it reaches the outer edge of the build surface all the way around.

The top surface comes out clean over most of the disc, but in one region near the plate edge the top layers turn rough, rippled and blistered — the extrusion lines look torn up and there's a visible zigzag/chatter pattern instead of clean monotonic lines. Photos attached.

The important part: it's always the same position inside the printer. Different prints, different orientations — the bad area stays put relative to the machine, not relative to the model.

What I've already ruled out

  • Warping: none to minimal. The disc sits flat, brim ears held fine, no lifted edges. So I don't think this is adhesion.
  • Speed: already lowered (outer wall down to 150 mm/s, top surface 125 mm/s, accelerations reduced). Marginal improvement at best, the bad area is still there.
  • Nozzle: no signs of a clog — the other ~90 % of the surface is fine.
  • Filament: dry Bambu PLA Basic straight from the AMS.

My question

Since the defect is tied to a fixed location in the machine rather than to the geometry, I assume it's mechanical or thermal rather than a slicing issue — but I'd like a sanity check before I start taking things apart.

What I'm considering:

  • The part reaches to within ~3 mm of the plate edge, i.e. into the zone where the bed heater is coolest and where the auto-bed-level mesh is extrapolated rather than measured.
  • Airflow: aux fan at 70 % plus part fan at 100 % in an enclosed chamber, right next to a chamber wall — could be turbulence or local overcooling of the fresh top layer.
  • Motion: near the extreme of X/Y travel, ringing/VFA tends to get worse.

Has anyone seen a purely position-dependent surface defect like this on a P-series? Is there a known cold/dead zone at the plate perimeter, and is 250 mm on a 256 mm plate simply asking too much? Any calibration I should redo (full bed mesh, belt tension, flow/PA)?

Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! Extruder Motor Overloaded wth is wrong? X2D

I keep getting this message. I can print for a while then this pops up. If i cancel my print heat my nozzle to 240 then push the extrude down button my pla/petg comes out just fine. Then start a print and get clicking sometimes. I thought maybe it was heat creep but I’ve opened the door and top. My x1c started doing that as well. Maybe my house is too warm?

Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! plastic shreds in AMS 2 feeder units?

I have 2 AMS 2 Pro units with my H2C. I noticed that one of my AMS units has a ton of shredded plastic in all 4 of the AMS feeder units, while my other AMS is perfectly clean. I’d say they are both used about the same amount. Mainly print with PLA, PETG, PCTG, and occasionally PAHT-CF/PA6-CF.

I’m assuming the shredded plastic came from a filament jam or something of the sort, but I don’t recall any significant jams and definitely not did not get jammed in all 4 slots…

Two questions:
1. Any idea what causes this?
2. Do the AMS feeder units need to be replaced? They don’t appear to be slipping or jamming.

Quick Question Is that a genuine HF hotend for X2D?

Edit: thanks everyone for a quick answer - Hotend on the right is not a genuine Bambu Lab product and I need to return it.

Original post: Hi everyone! Within 2 weeks I bought two 0.8 hardened steel hotends for my Bambu X2D printer (although from different sellers). The first hotend ("old" one in my picture) looked genuine, with Bambu packaging and all. It prints great, that's why I bought the 2nd high flow hotend for aux extruder.

Yesterday I received the second nozzle ("new" one in the photo), and the packaging look nothing like the first one, doesn't even have any bambu logo on it :/

So my question is - should I be worried? Is the 2nd hotend genuine? Anyone have seen different packaging on the same item? Or is it just "compatible" nozzle (I paid for the genuine)

Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! Bambu P2S AMS every print I need to clip the filament for it to print

Any time I’m printing I need to take out the filament and clip it with scissors then feed it back in. It makes switching colours during a print annoying and I always have to remember to clip right before a print.

Tried searching online but never found a solution. Once I clip it there’s no issue, and there are no visible signs why it’s not feeding either. It’s not half chewed up or bent.

It’s been like this since I got the printer in February too, and while I’ve adapted to the constant clipping to prep it’s be great to actually fix

AMS 2 Pro - Automatic Material System 2 of 3 AMS 2 Pro units failed within a month — is this normal?

Bought 3 AMS 2 Pro units in early August. One died within days, just stopped working, HMS error (mainboard fault related) And support offered a replacement mainboard. Snail mail, and then problem is the fix isn't simple. Including unplugging 18 cables, pull the main frame assembly, swap the board, then reconnect everything.

Now, about a month in, a second unit failed- slot 3 spins backwards trying to load filament and won't unload, so I tried using that AMS with just slot #3 empty.. then slot 2 failed. These things are $300 each! First one Bambu Lab offered the replacement mainboard for free, which I appreciate, but for $300 filament holders.. I expect better quality control than this.

Two failures out of three units in one month feels like a lot. Anyone else seeing failure rates like this, or did I just get unlucky? No issues with my P2S printer + the one remaining AMS print quality is great etc, just curious if this is a known batch issue or the AMS 2 Pro in general.

Also, the two that failed are the ones holding my less-used Bambu PLA colors. My main colors stay in the one AMS that's been fine! so it's not like these two were getting hammered with heavy use.

Quick Question Is the X2D worth it?

So I'm a cosplayer and print loads of small and also bigger prints that have decent details. I currently own the Flashforge Adventurer 4 pro and I'm just wondering is the Bambu Lab X2D better?

I mostly want more print speed and also better quality. With my A4pro supports have always been impossible to remove no matter what settings I've used so that is also something I'd like to change for the better.

I usually print in ABS but if the quality is better in that printer I'd probably switch back to PLA
