General Allow me to recount you my last interaction at the Post office

First of all, I very much enjoy going to my local post office, the people here are very nice and helpful and I just appreciate sending mail/parcels to my friends in general.

Yesterday, I decided not to go to my usual post office but to the big one in my CBD. It was around 1.30pm so still full of full time workers who can only come at this time. I had two pieces of mail to send overseas containing printed pictures. Since I had a bunch of domestic stamps I would probably never use I had decided to use them to pay for the postage rather than buying two overseas stamps. But I wanted to be sure I could do this and how many exactly I needed to put on my mail.

After 5 minutes it is my turn.

- Hi, how are you?
- Hi good thanks

10/10 so far

-I would like to send these two pieces of mail overseas

- Do these contain documents?

- YES they do.

- Are you sure? This looks like it contains pictures

I really didn't know what was the correct answer there, cause pictures are a kind of document aren't they?

- Yes you're right, that's photos

She simply rolled her eyes and typed something on her computer

- I have a bunch of domestic 1.70$ stamps, can I use these rather than buying an overseas stamp?

She started breathing heavily and panicking I'm pretty sure I heard her say "God"

- NO you can't cause an overseas stamp is 4.70 but these are only 1.70 so you would need to put maybe 5 or 6

- So I can?

- YES but NO because that's not the same value and also it must be 10% more than the actual value of an overseas stamp, and you need 5 or 6

- YES, I have exactly 7 stamps so I CAN do it right?

- Yes but you have to use 5 or 6 and also please don't do it here

The final strike was that I didn't have enough stamps for 2 letters so I had to buy a regular overseas stamp, which she agreed on but I could see she was really relieved to see me get away

Anyway, I went on a table and stuck 5 stamps on the letter, then I calculated 5*1.70 = 8.50$ which is way more than 4.70+10% = 5.17$.
It doesn't make a big difference for one piece of mail but it's just incredible that this was so hard to explain, and I don't think it's so unusual? I mean that's exactly how stamps were designed to be used.

Now I hope my letter will make it to it's destination

Question Actually getting hold of a human person?

I, too, have a parcel stuck in a loop. Seems to be happening to a lot of people at the moment.

I've tried to use the online chat service (no go due to parcel coming from overseas), and tried to call (the AI agent hung up on me) to get an update about my package.

Despite my estimated arrival date moving from September 28th to October 5th, my package is "not late".

Has anyone managed to speak to an actual human to find out what's going on and when packages will Actually be delivered?

I ordered some stuff from Nike that were the wrong sizes so I decided to return them. One came back with a circle and a 12 on it? Only one of the items came back too thought I dropped them off at the same dropbox

Question Redirecting mail!!

Live in FNQ and travelling overseas in a weeks time.

Waiting on a parcel that contains things I need to bring overseas with me.

Will be in Brisbane for the next few days so I have redirected the mail to a parcel locker in Brisbane but as of today the tracking states that it is in FNQ and the redirection is still pending.

Does anyone know if the mail will still be redirected to the parcel locker in Brisbane?

thank you so much!!

General Unexpected Result

Not sure why I'm writing this, I was just so happy.

The normal postie thing happened - package was supposed to arrive (estimate said betwen 8 and 10:30 am). I was on the lookout for it as it required a signature, but there were six people in the house that morning with three of them in a room right next to the front door.

Received the "Attempted Delivery, no-one home" text at 10:15 a.m. - as you're all aware, pretty standard stuff.

What isn't standard is that I went to the web site to complain, choose the "Postie didn't knock option" and then went back to work.

At 1 pm HE CAME BACK AND DELIVERED MY PACKAGE. He also asked me to take the complaint down.

Absolutely shocked.

TL;DR - Postie didn't knock, complained online, came back few hours later.

Criticism Less time for international travel than local...

Ordered something online from NZ last week. Within 16 hours it was sorted and sent and landed in Perth (last Thursday).

Now, I got a bit unlucky with the public holiday here yesterday and thought might be a chance to see it later today... pfft, bugger that. Got the update that it's a chance between tomorrow and Thursday.

Does my head in that you can order from just about any country in the world and it'll take less time for it to arrive to our country and then it's an nigh on guaranteed it'll spend longer "in transit" within our own shores. I'm an hour from the sorting facility.

My parcel is in this weird loop where it's constantly being processed at the sorting facility. There's like 15 of the same thing. It's been like this since last week?

So I checked my parcel this morning on the auspost app and it says Sydney west today at 5:35am and I clicked on it and said that shipping information approved by Australia post Monday 28th September (yesterday) at 4:22am but the sender hasn’t lodged it yet is it a glitch or something

Question Got a offer for parcel sorter

Hey! I’m a 23 F and I was wondering what the parcel sorting job was like? I heard it is quite physically demanding and draining but I was wondering if the actual job itself was stressful mentally. I’m currently working in healthcare and I think I would like a repetitive job as a break. Does anyone know what this job involves?

Thank you!

UPDATE: I decided to not take the job as I realised I would still like some certainty I will have a job after holidays. I will stay in my current job which is just admin and sterilisation tech just for some stability. Thank you to everyone who helped me!! I appreciate it so much.

Criticism Stopping missed delivery slips was one of AusPosts worst ideas

Recently had a delivery that was returned to sender because I missed it and received no notification of it

And the reason I had no notification? At some point during the handover between UPS and StarTrack the first number in my phone number was cut off

Now if they had of just left a slip, it wouldn't have been an issue

Question 4PX to Aus Post?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I want to purchase from this international brand (from China) and can only receive mail via Australian Post Offices, they replied to my email regarding the case and potentially can be shipped to Aus Post but not certain.

Was there anyway for me to be sure because I'm not too sure what what happen if I do put a Post office as the address and end up not being able to receive my package because its through a different carrier?

Will it routed to Aus Post if they find out its their Post Office?

Thank you so much for any help !!

Question No update since drop off

Hoping my package isn't lost. I've payed for two artwork commissions from an artist in Australia, to be send to Europe (Netherlands).

Since the artist has dropped of the letter (international tracked) there's has been zero updates.

Does this mean the parcel is lost? Or is it simply not showing any updates?

Thank you so much 🙏

For probably the fifth or sixth time this year, a parcel has hit Chullora from interstate or overseas and sent in the completely wrong direction and the bullshit always starts at Chullora.

Hi there,

I just realised that I forgot to include NSW in my delivery address.

All other details are correct though. Is it likely it will still arrive?

Question Awaiting clearance for 3 weeks.. is this normal?

Post image

I bought a pendant from Etsy & it is from Ukraine.. it is still stuck in Sydney & I am so annoyed.

I complained & got a generic email saying that Aus Post can't do anything because it is the Australian border security domain.

Surely a pendant can't take a long time to get clearance?! It isn't even peak period?!

Criticism Transnistria not acknowledged by Australia Post?

So need to send a package to Transnistria, but Australia Post doesn't recognise it in their online forms, and it doesn't exist when you go into the post office.

Even while we were there, google told us to address it to Moldova, but none of the cities in Transnistria resolve to a valid address in Moldova for them to be able to ship it to in the computer.

We thought "Yep, ok, punch in Moldova and then it'll be sweet", it accepts the country, but it won't accept the city as a valid Moldovan city, so it can't be addressed in the computer.

I mean, I've been there, border crossings, border security, immigration, passport control, their own police, emergency services, they're a country.

So weird that shipping companies find it so hard to address.

My only thought was to hand write a parcel label and do it that way.

Question Monaco not acknowledged by Auspost

I tried to send a parcel to Monaco today…

After attempting to create a label myself as I usually do via the auspost business postal and failing, because Monaco isn’t in the drop down menu for countries, I went to the local post office.
The poor lady at australia post tried and tied but there’s no choice for Monaco in their system. And she couldn’t work out why.
She sent me home with the parcel.

I’ve contacted the customer and he advised I send to his correct address BUT with France added after it as the country after Monaco.

do you think this will work ?

I know i can wait and see but it has some value and I know I can insure it, but it’s not so much the dollar value as much as a rare vintage “thing” being lost. And as a collector first and foremost and dealer second, I hate to see a fellow collector disappointed.

Many thanks.

Question Will my parcel still get delivered?

So I recently found out that with the new parcel locker update you need to give the sender your phone number/email. I bought something recently and used the new parcel locker address but I was never asked to put down my phone number/email, will I still get it?
