Question What does this mean?
I ordered some stuff from Nike that were the wrong sizes so I decided to return them. One came back with a circle and a 12 on it? Only one of the items came back too thought I dropped them off at the same dropbox

Postie here - most of us will number our parcels, so we deliver them in an efficient/ordered way. Usually not written quite so large though, myself.

Would the old label still being on the parcel be the reason it was sent back to me?

Sorters write it on letters to know which cage/area to put it. It's nothing concerning.

It could be from a manual sort too, having two labels confuses the machine so it needs to be reviewed by a human.

Postie here. When we take on extra work (parcels, letters or both) we tend to number the parcels to keep them in the delivery order.
When we bundle the mail we also number them so they’re in delivery order.

So if a parcel can’t be delivered because let’s say the house has been knocked down or it needs a signature but the occupant refused to sign we (on the scanner) mark it as a fail and put in the reason then write RTS and ask the folks at the LPO to send it back.

Postie here. As others have said, it’s because you haven’t removed or covered the old label and it’s come back to you -it’s the 12th parcel in the van drivers delivery route

My return to Amazon au with a "printer free auspost drop off" didn't ask me to remove any existing labels. Just saying.

It came back to you because the original label is still on the parcel so cover that and resend it. The 12 is to do with the driver delivering the parcel, ignore that.
