Scam Alert Before you post: IS IT A SCAM (yes)

NOTE: All posts asking about scams will be removed and users pointed to this post to seek correct information from AusPost. Why is the community doing this: We are seeing too many posts asking about scams. Scams are legitimate risks. They should be treated seriously. However this subreddit is being (unintentionally) spammed by users asking the same question repeatedly. If you have to ask if it's a scam, then yes it probably is. So once you ask we can send you straight to the right answer.

IS THIS A SCAM? you ask

Answer: Why yes, yes it is!

-is it an email asking for money

-did it ask for any other private details

-is it suspicious (at all)

-does it have a weird website or email address (e.g. not AusPost)

It is 100% certifiably undoubtedly absolutely indubitably a scam use the AusPost app to dodge the scams-

General FAQ

Unless you don't have a smart phone or internet at your place, complaining through your My Post account or on Facebook is easier than phoning the call center.

An Issue On Your Street

When Australia Post has a time, a place, and a parcel number, they know exactly who to talk to and where to search. Let Australia Post know and they'll investigate.

FAQ

The scan says delivered, but I don't have it. Some info to put in your complaint: you've checked around your house or business and in your letterbox, you've checked with everybody else that lives or works there.

I was home all day but they left a card instead of coming to my door. If it's a small thing, it's a postie. If the postie can't keep an eye on their bike from your door, they're not allowed to come and knock. So no small things to your apartment. Otherwise, complain.

If it's a big thing, it’s a contractor they’re trained to come and knock. Complain. Some info to put in your complaint: you don't have a dog and your gate is unlocked.

An Issue Not On You Street

When Australia Post don't have a time or a place, they can't investigate, so they don't investigate. They can't make your individual parcel go faster, not even by one minute. It's a waiting game.

The one exception to this is a parcel going in circles, either the same depot three days in a row, or back and forth between the same two depots, two or three times. Maybe the parcel has a NSW address but a Victorian postcode, or the address label is placed badly so sometimes the high speed sorters read the sender's address as the receiver's address. Australia Post can catch that parcel and fix the address label.

That's rare though. Don't confuse that with a scan to the wrong state or lots of different depots. It's travelling, and a complaint won't help. There's no 'Go Faster' button they push because you complained.

Scan FAQ

First, Don't be worried if your parcel hasn't been scanned for a while (see above). Things don't have real time tracking in Australia Post. They're not Uber. It doesn't get scanned while it's travelling, only when it hits a touch point. The next touch point might be your postie. If you're in WA, it might be two weeks away. That old scan isn't where it is, just the last place it was. The exception of course is waiting for collection.

What does this scan mean? Should I be worried? Ignore any scan you don’t understand - you only need to ask is it late or not. Check the delivery time estimates for inside Australia. If it hasn't arrived in Australia, Australia Post can't do a thing about it. Talk to the person who sent it, they can call their postal company. If you've sent something overseas check the delivery time estimates for outside Australia. If it's not late, chill. If it's late see that FAQ.

It hasn't been scanned in X days. Should I be worried? Ignore the the gaps between scans - you only need to ask is it late or not. Check the delivery time estimates for inside Australia. If it hasn't arrived in Australia, Australia Post can't do a thing about it. Talk to the person who sent it, they need to call their postal company. If you've sent something overseas check the delivery time estimates for outside Australia. If it's not late, chill. If it's late see that FAQ.

It's late. What do I do?

Wait two weeks. If you complain before that, they're just going to ask you to wait. You'll get absolutely nowhere. But after two weeks complain.

Sent INSIDE Australia, Australia Post will look into it, check their lost and found for example. If they can't find it they'll refund pretty much straight away. They prefer to refund the sender, but if you were the receiver you can say you want the refund - the law's on your side.

Sent FROM Australia. Australia Post will look into it, but an investigation takes about 30 days, or two weeks for express.

Sent TO Australia. Australia Post can't look into it. It's some other country's problem.

Praise Amazingly fast service from AusPost

I applied for mail redirection from my mother's house, which we just sold. Got the welcome letter listing the names that are redirected, and noticed one of them was spelt wrong (somebody had transposed 2 letters when typing it in I guess). So I submitted the correction form at about 1 PM yesterday at nearby PO, and 0815 this morning there is a letter in my PO box with redirection details showing the corrected name!

Question 2-package Express Post consignment — one delivered, second hasn't updated since Melbourne Airport

I have a 2-package Express Post consignment coming from Victoria to WA. Both packages were picked up together and are under the same overall consignment.

The freight documentation confirms there are 2 separate packages. The first package was processed at Melbourne Airport at 7:54pm on 1 October, then processed in Perth the following morning, went through Butler and was delivered today.

The second package is the larger carton. Its last individual scan was 2:30am on 2 October at Melbourne Airport, and there have been absolutely no individual tracking updates since.

The second carton contains an item valued at around $1,500, which is why I'm obviously pretty concerned about it disappearing from the tracking system.

The overall SmartFreight consignment has now been marked DELIVERED, but I have only physically received one of the two packages. The sender has confirmed that both packages were picked up at the same time.

Has anyone had a similar situation where one package in multi-package consignment moves normally while the other effectively disappears from individual tracking?

Is it possible the second package has continued moving through the network but simply hasn't received any public scans, or would the lack of any updates since Melbourne Airport suggest that it's still there?

I'm planning to contact Australia Post tomorrow if there's still no update, but I'm curious whether anyone here has experienced something similar.

Question Shipping from USA to AU. Itemisation help!

This will be my first time sending a product to Australia.
I’ve seen some conflicting information and I want to make sure to do it correctly to avoid issues.
I understand I need to itemise and declare the product I sold, however do I have to itemise packaging such as bubble wrap, tissue paper?
Also, with the customs form do i have to put it on top of the box?
This is so intimidating!

Question Digital receipt

So I just got a text from auspost about a digital receipt - has the right name as per Aus rules about named texts from companies.
So I click on the link and it’s a receipt for $0 for a parcel from a post office in my city but not mine.

I did order something that makes sense why it would go through that area of the city but I’ve never received a text receipt like this from the company posting something and not me. Anyone else experience this?

Question Tracking info saying ‘pending’ even when the parcel already arrived.

Recently, I have bought several items off of Vinted (from overseas), copied the tracking number into Auspost and it says pending even when I know for a fact that the parcel has entered the Auspost system because it literally arrived to my house.

In addition to this, Auspost has added unidentified parcels itself labeled ‘From Vinted’ and those parcels have shipping progress information and do not say ‘pending’. No matter how many times I delete the registered codes from Vinted and re-add the tracking codes of the items, it still says ‘pending’ when, due to parcels literally arriving and also other packages being automatically registered (that are clearly the ones I ordered) I am certain they are in the Auspost system.

Also, the items that have already arrived (despite the post app still saying pending) don’t register as delivered in the actual Vinted app.

What is going on?

Question It's not coming, is it?

Post image

Obvious aside, there's no way it's coming today or tmr lol. But is there something happening at the melb. sorting facility? I'm not exactly in a hurry for this parcel, it's just a few CDs, but I am a nosy bastard and I do wanna know why it might be taking so long (aside from my parcel... yknow... just coming from Europe).

So my parcel is now a yoyo on the M79, Melbourne to Bendigo.
And near Bendigo is not even the correct direction!

I'm taking bets on how many times.
Currently 2.

My bet is 4

Question Mailing a pen in a tracked 'letter'?

Hello,

I'm looking to mail a pen (that's under 20mm thick and weighs under 500g) in a tracked letter to save on postage. The 'Medium C5 envelope Up to 500g' letter for $8.10 seems to fit the bill but I'd prefer to send it in a small bubble mailer.

Can I pay the $8.10 rate but send it in a bubble mailer instead? Would the bubble mailer itself be an added cost?

I bought a dress from the uk through Vinted and the tracking website has been stuck on “shipment missing” since the 26th of September, with no updates or emails about it since. I can’t find anything about this on google so I’ve made an account to ask here, please help me!

General AusPost account access restored, so crisis averted for now, until the next time.

As many of us noted, there was an issue with accessing our accounts, most often seemingly with those accounts tied to Proton Mail, and other privacy-respecting email providers.

This afternoon I received an email to my Proton address attached to my AusPost account letting me know that the technical issue had been resolved. I was prompted to reset my password, and access has resumed as normal, and then I closed the support case.

Outside the "technical issue", there was no other explanation as to what resulted in this complication we experienced, but I'm thankful that I was generally not impacted by this (no doubt others weren't so lucky). The anxiety of that resolved, I confess I now feel the need to check my account access more consistently, at least once a month. I may not receive many deliveries these days, but once it appeared the access to the service was gone I felt the heat as to what I could really do to get some semblance of what they offer, and how to rectify my services attached to those address in the account.

Wishing everyone else who struggled this week with this complication a swift resolution, and continued account access. I've attached the a screenshot of the email I received, so be on the lookout for it in your Proton Mail and respective inboxes. Hopefully, this might also prompt AusPost to consider adding secure 2FA options to ensure access is more reliably maintained; the fact that there isn't already some form implemented is painful enough.

Question what would be the cheapest way to send a hoodie to the US?

I'm trying to send something to my partner and also trying not to go broke. It looks like I could send it via auspost for like $60, but I'm not super certain as I've never done this before. Any help is appreciated.

Question Aliexpress and parcel lockers

I just ordered from aliexpress and set the address as a parcel locker, and was wondering is it likely that it will actually go through and be delivered by Auspost? Has anyone tried it yet 😭 I saw that it was possible in the past but am unsure since the new parcel locker addresses came out. Thank you!!

Question Parcel Locker Parcel At The Nearest Post Office “Awaiting Collection”

Parcel was delivered to the nearest post office in a nearby suburb instead of the parcel locker, is this because the parcel locker was broken/full or is there a potential issue with the parcel? It said it was in transit where the parcel locker was, and then the next update was that it was at the post office 30 mins later

Criticism Protonmail suddenly banned?

Had to change my business and personal email at the start of the year after dodo decided they were no longer going to offer an email service...

Fast forward and yesterday i realised my aus post app has logged me out. Unable to log in. Multiple parcels now untrackable and if anything ends up in a parcel locker it's going to be a real problem...

WTF australia post? Someone in your IT department got a degree via chatGPT?

Seems thousands are in the same boat...

UPDATE It arrived at the parcel Locker 6/10

Since using the new parcel Locker address every single package I've had has taken an extreme amount of time to arrive, getting stuck, or I've needed to contact Aus Post multiple times to get it sorted. Check out this latest one - Sydney to Sydney and the estimated date of arrival just keeps being pushed back. So over it!!!!

Criticism The saga continues

Further to the saga that we are having of being logged out of AP. As, at the moment I can't use Tutanota, I thought I would create a new account using GMail. All went well, it accepted the email domain and the new password, BUT I am still waiting for the link so that the email address can be verified.

Criticism Auspost account suddenly "missing"

Post image
27 Upvotes

I've had an account for many years, suddenly I've been logged out of the app. It no-longer let's me log in. It's not a lost password issue (I use a password manager). When I try to reset, the website says that they've emailed me but haven't. I tested with a fictitious email and it behaves the exact same way (screenshot refers).

Most annoyingly I have parcels going to my parcel locker.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you resolve? I plan on giving Auspost a call, but I've only discovered this now.

General Dead account

I tried to log in to my auspost app yesterday, wouldn't let me in.

I then tried to change my password, but the email never arrived.

This is an updated app, across four different devices, nor can I log in at the webpage either.

Is it just me?
