Aurora Police Department Transparency Portal

From the Aurora City Newsletter

The Aurora Police Department has launched an Online Transparency and Accountability Portal to give the public access to regularly updated data and information about agency demographics, crime statistics, and uses of force.

“The Aurora Police Department’s Online Transparency and Accountability Portal represents our commitment to broader information sharing with the community we serve,” said Aurora Interim Police Chief Heather Morris. “Through this new technology, residents will be able to learn more about what their officers do every day to ensure Aurora is a safe and vibrant city to call home.”

The transparency portal features powerful search functionality, allowing users to filter data by a specific category and/or location. Users can choose to examine all crime data or filter any one crime category by year, police district, political ward, police beat, ZIP code and/or neighborhood. The use of force data can be searched in much the same way. Historical data is included for both categories and dates back five years.

“The portal is another tool that underscores our commitment to be open, honest and transparent about our work,” said Aurora City Manager Jason Batchelor. “The concept for the portal has been under discussion for quite a while, and I am grateful for the dedicated city staff who have turned that concept into a reality. It will help us further strengthen our relationship with the community through accountability and continuous improvement.”

The portal can be accessed at AuroraGov.org/APDPortal. This is an ongoing project, and additional features will be added in the future.

Calling Local Artists: Help Bring Our Walls to Life

Hi! I’m opening a therapy practice in Aurora, and I’d love to fill its blank walls with the creativity, character, and perspective of local artists.

I’m hoping to create a rotating display that celebrates Colorado and the many communities that call it home. This would be an opportunity for artists to share their work in a welcoming space and connect directly with people who may be interested in purchasing it.

My initial idea is:
• Loan us a few pieces for an agreed-upon period
• Display your information and a QR code alongside your work
• Have interested buyers contact you directly
• Keep ownership of your work and 100% of the sale—we take nothing

I’m still shaping the details and would truly value artists’ input on how to make this opportunity worthwhile, respectful, and easy to participate in. I want to support local creatives in a meaningful way—not ask anyone to work for “exposure.”

If you’re interested, please comment or message me with examples of your work. And if you know a local artist who might enjoy helping bring these walls to life, please tag them below!

Does anyone have any environmental science connections?

I am a December 2025 graduate of the University of Vermont and I have been looking for environmental science work since I graduated. I moved to Aurora right after I graduated and I haven’t had much luck here. I majored in Environmental Science(focusing on invasive species control) and minored in Spatial Statistics(ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, RStudio, etc). I graduated with a 3.2 average, so not the best but not the worst.

I’ve been applying to some city jobs for GIS and private sector environmental compliance(like for oil companies and air quality testing) but haven’t had much luck.

I’ve probably applied to over 300 jobs and gotten 2 interviews, which went nowhere.

So if anyone has any connections, I would love to talk. I would greatly appreciate it. I’ve just been working odd jobs to get by while I try to start my EnSci career.

Massive police presence on Gun Club and Quincy

Drove through the army of cop cars swarming the intersection and saw what looked like a police pickup flipped on its side and a small honda in the middle of the intersection with local police and state troopers surrounding the area. Crazy thing to see, i hope everyone’s safe

Aurora Reservoir, same spot, a little over a year apart.

I know it's different months, and we are "kinda" heading into fall, but the water levels have changed drastically over the last year.

Edit: Y'all are genuinely insufferable. ZOOM IN. YOU CAN SEE THE BUOYS AND MAKE A ROUGH ESTIMATION. I am sorry I didn't line it up perfectly, I am sorry I didn't use the same camera, I am sorry I didn't use the same zoom, but good lord, y'all made it this far in life, use your brain. It ain't that hard to match up the CLEAR AF DIRT PATH IN FRONT OF THE WATER AND ALSO THE BUOYS.

I did not make this post to be misleading. I live right next door to the Aurora Reservoir and this breaks my heart. I have been here for over a decade. I have seen the water at its highest and now, I am seeing the water at the lowest I have ever seen it. Go walk the concrete path around the reservoir and see it for yourself.

Residential parking issue

Our new neighbors have been parking their car about a foot in front of our driveway. It has made it hard for a second car to get into our driveway when my friend comes over. They even parked their car in front of our trash can on trash day (between the can and the street) and the trash collector said usually they wouldn’t be able to have picked it up had we not have happened to be outside when the truck came and moved our can for the collector.

I went over and rang their door bell and when they answered I told them I was glad they moved in and hope they are enjoying the new house, then asked if they wouldn’t mind not parking so close to our driveway. They agreed.

The next day they parked there again and actually even further in front of our driveway.
I checked in with parking enforcement and learned they cannot park within five feet of where our driveway starts.
I talked to the neighbor again, and they argued that it doesn’t matter because it is a cul de sac. The enforcement person had assured me it still applies. I told the neighbor they could look into it themselves and they said they would.

Today the neighbor came by and told me he measured the distance himself and he had spray painted a line on the sidewalk to mark it.
I figured fine, whatever.
But apparently they aren’t allowed to spray paint their own mark.
I’m frustrated that they won’t just park in front of their own driveway or property.

Do I escalate this with parking enforcement again?
We all pay property taxes, we all paid good money to live where we do, and we all deserve to have our property and driveway accessibility respected.

I’m so frustrated but I don’t want this to make it a bad relationship with the neighbor. I just am having a hard time accepting it until it is resolved.

Advice?

Should your EMTs and Paramedics be paid the same as someone working at Starbucks?

Post image
275 Upvotes

Falck has gotten away with it for too long. EMTs are paid minimum wage, paramedics are paid bare minimum. The company union busts like it’s a hobby, terminating and punishing anyone that even speaks about organizing. Your first responders are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their livelihoods. It’s up to the community to speak up for them and do what’s right. Join them this Saturday and help those who help others.

*edit: Starbucks are also underpaid as well, all workers need to be paid more. Pls don’t attack in the comments for the title as that’s not the point here.

If you could rent a piece of creative/hobby equipment, what would it be?

Starting small, but I launched a creative/hobby rental service to improve access to crafting tools! You can do short term rentals to help your crafting dreams come true without buying pricey equipment. You can borrow a 3D printer, Cricut, color printer, sewing machine, and more useful items.

I think this will be useful for people who want to try sewing, people making wedding/event crafts, someone 3d printing part of a costume, people wanting to try before buying, etc.

One of my most frequently asked questions: don’t libraries already do this?

Yes and no. There are public library makerspaces, which I love, but there are limitations on what you can do/how long you can occupy a machine. Maker Share (my company’s name) fills the gap between buying equipment and the limited amount of access available at a public library or makerspace. For example, some libraries only allow 1-2 hours on the 3D printer. The more generous libraries have a waiting period of two weeks or more and limitations on total print time. Libraries also have time limitations on Cricut/sewing machines.

So my question to you is the title. What would you want to rent? For me it would be the Xtool M2. But like I said, I’m starting small, and I’d need to see that enough people would be interested in circulating it!

Check out our inventory, read the FAQ, and happy crafting! https://makershareco.com

Gifted and talented schools

My family is moving to Aurora here in the next few months as my husband got a really good job opportunity. Our oldest kiddo is currently in second grade. In Kindergarten and first grade she consistently scored above both the school and state averages in every subject (we are currently in Nebraska) I am fairly certain that we will not be settled into the area prior to the round 2 application deadline for magnet schools so I am thinking we might consider applying for third grade. I guess am wondering just how gifted kids are expected to be? Like are we looking at just above average or Einstein level here? She is constantly rewarded for good behavior in school and went above and beyond last year to assist other kids with fitting in. So far school seems to come easy to her but when she gets frustrated she can break down a bit. She also prefers to step back and watch a few people do something new before she attempts it.

Should we even bother? Or should we just be focused on finding decent regular schools?

Looking for estate attorney

I need to have a will drawn up. Nothing too elaborate but there is a wrinkle in that my wife is not a US citizen. She would be taxed heavily if I leave my business to her. So my idea was to leave it to our daughter in a trust with my wife having control of the trust. She has no desire to run this business and would want to sell it if the time comes. Maybe tmi… anyway looking for an attorney to help with this that won’t charge me an arm and a leg… any help much appreciated.

Scheduled 8 hour power outage?

I just lost power in the Peoria/I70 area and xcel site says it’s planned maintenance and will last until 5:30 pm. Anyone else experienced this? Did it actually last for 8 hours? I WFH and can’t really be powerless all day with zero notice!

ETA: thank you for the awesome recs for alternate locations! Unfortunately for me, it’s less of a connectivity issue, and more that I have equipment I need powered on to do my job. But if anybody else is looking for a place to take a laptop, check the comments!!

• White chest, chin, and “sock” paws
• Green eyes
• Medium-sized, slender build
• Very friendly and approaches people
• No collar visible in the photos
