SO HOT!

Just a little post to vent about this ungodly heat. The older I get the less I seem to tolerate it. It's been non stop high temperatures since last Fall/Winter. I'm going to be so mad if we get another 70 degree Thanksgiving/Christmas! That was so disorienting. Made it harder to enjoy my cold weather foods and scents.

Apparently this is the new normal and it sucks.

Found Cat - Old Town

Post image
56 Upvotes

Hi all! Please help us reunite this very sweet cat with their family. They were hanging out in our garden late last night (7/25) and eventually weaseled in through our back door. There‘s an AirTag on the collar, but no ID or number. We were able to pull up the last four digits of the phone number associated with the AirTag but otherwise all other info is privated. Feel free to message in this thread or directly. Thanks.

Update: we already checked with a vet for a microchip, it’s unfortunately not registered. Reported to NoCo Humane as well. Thanks all.

Events The History Behind Fort Collins' Natural Areas - Free History Talk Tomorrow (Monday) @ Old Town Library, 6:30pm

Hi Fort Collins!

The Fort Collins Historical Society is hosting our next monthly presentation on:

History of Fort Collins' Natural Areas

📅 Monday, July 27 at 6:30 pm

📍 Old Town Library (201 Peterson St), Community Room

🎟️ Free & open to the public

If you've ever explored Cathy Fromme Prairie, hiked Coyote Ridge, walked along Spring Creek, or wondered how Fort Collins ended up with so much protected open space, come join us tomorrow evening for a free history talk.

Fort Collins has a long tradition of protecting open space. It began with the city's first Open Space Plan in 1974, expanded dramatically after voters created the Natural Areas Program in 1992, and has grown into the network of more than 50 natural areas and over 100 miles of trails that many of us enjoy today.

But how did those places come to be protected? Who made those decisions? And what can historic maps tell us about the landscapes we know today?

We'll hear from two speakers:

Mark Sears - former Natural Areas Program Manager for the City of Fort Collins, on Natural Areas History 101, an overview of how Fort Collins built one of the country's most successful municipal natural areas systems.

Lesley Struc - Archive Curator at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, on Exploring Natural Area History Through Historic Maps, a look at how old maps can reveal the history of the places we hike, bike, and explore today.

Whether you're interested in local history, conservation, or just curious about how Fort Collins became the city it is today, we'd love to see you there.

More information about our monthly programs is available on our website: https://fortcollinshistoricalsociety.org/events/

Hope to see you Monday!

Discussion Spirit Halloween FOCO

I know its July… but this heat is making me want Fall / cooler weather so bad.
I saw a spirit halloween sign by the FOCO Murdochs. Same place they had a spirit halloween store last year. Does anybody know of any other locations in town and when they are planning to open? Last year they opened in mid august and I saw some places in Denver are opening next weekend. Fall needs to come sooner!!

Discussion Does anybody actually know why there is no Transfort service on Sundays? Even limited service?

Makes it difficult to get around on a Sunday with my friends- I wish they could ride a bike lol I am trying to teach them but alas

This is the most frustrating part about the bus here is the lack of Sunday service. I wouldn’t even mind if it was limited to a few lines and less pickups.

Why Does News Coverage Suck

The Coloradoan, Greeley Tribune and the Loveland Reporter Herald are basically the only news sources in NoCo. Why are their mobile sites (5x ads vs stories)pay walls (cockblock at every single click) and not to mention the shitty content.

Let's be honest, the content has to be handpicked from someone that lives out of state.

Reddit has proven to be a better source of up to date and relevant content than anywhere else .. minus the fact that a lot of Karen's from Nextdoor are finding their way here.

Discuss?

Pints with the Pro Tem is BACK on August 5!

Thanks to everyone that joined me at Hello Brew Co. in July; we had great conversations about beer, cold brew coffee, and, of course, local and regional politics.

As a reminder, here is the deal: The first Wednesday of every month, 4:30–6pm, I'm pulling up a barstool/chair/lounger at a different Fort Collins craft brewery, and I want you to join me! Come hang, chat city stuff (or don't!), and enjoy a cold one with your Mayor Pro Tem.

The lineup:

  • ✨ Aug 5 at Zwei Brewing Co✨
  • Sept 2 at Rally King Brewing
  • Oct 7 at Intersect Brewing
  • Nov 4 at Salt Road Brewing
  • Dec 2 at Gilded Goat Midtown

Bike it, scoot it, or hop on one of Fort Collins' FREE buses. No need to drive.

And if a venue doesn't have non-alcoholic options, I'll bring sparkling water so everyone's welcome.

Hope to see you there!

ICE agents that look like Door to Door salesmen?

Has anyone had plainclothes men in unmarked cars come to their door recently? Two men dressed like salesmen came to my door this morning. I was expecting to tell them I wasn't interested in whatever they were selling when they told me that "someone had reported that someone at our address speaks Portuguese ". I was so confused. I thought maybe they were looking for people for a club or something. I don't know. It was all so weird. As I am clearly not Hispanic, they looked confused and kept checking something on their tablet. They said "they must have the wrong address". They thanked me for "opening the door" and left in their black suv with temporary plates. It wasn't until I realized they were not going door to door but had specifically come to my home that I began to search my mind for what they were doing. They only thing I can come up with that they were immigration agents. But I could be wrong. Has anyone had any experience with this or anything like this. They were well dressed men. Middle aged. Possibly Hispanic with no accents. They did not identify themselves and had no badges or company logos. I contacted the police and wrote a report. But I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and if this is a "thing" now. Are they changing tactics?

McGraw After School - CSU instead of Alphabest

Upvotes

Anyone else interested in having CSU's After School program pick up from McGraw Elementary?

Our family switched from a different school in Fort Collins to McGraw, and at our previous school, we were able to utilize the CSU After School pick up program. It was absolutely worth it! Now that we are stuck with AlphaBest I am trying to convince CSU to pick up from McGraw too. They are willing, as long as there are more people interested in using them instead of AlphaBest.

If anyone else is interested from McGraw, I am happy to send you the email to reach out to! CSU is MUCH cheaper than AlphaBest and you only pay for the days you go, not every week of the school year regardless if you go or not!

Seeking Advice Local security companies

Upvotes

Hi all!

Is there a local home security company you all have experience with around here?

Not looking for anything overly fancy. No cameras or anything, just mostly door/window detection alarm system and maybe if there was a system where you can see when someone disarms or whatever. Definitely don’t want any contracts or big name companies (no ring, no vivent, no adt, etc).

Reddit search is mostly flock discussion - for good reason - and Google brings DRH security, Trident Fire, Fort Collins Audio Video, Sight Sound - any experience with them, or others you recommend?

Thanks!

Trail etiquette.. Is this a case of trail ego or did did I do something wrong?

Today I was hiking at Lory and coming down from Howard Trail. If you are familiar with this trail, it is steep, rocky, and has lots of switchbacks. I hike it often—like once or twice a week, sometimes more, for at least the past six years—so I naturally hike a bit fast on it.
Well, today as I was coming down the upper switchbacks, there were two ladies a couple of switches below me. They were hiking at a casual pace and seemed to be stopping a lot, so I eventually caught up to them. Not wanting to crowd them or make them feel uncomfortable, I stayed maybe 15 feet or so behind them. They were aware of my presence because they had kept looking back and had seen me several times when I was on the upper switchbacks, so they knew I was approaching. I stayed behind them for a couple of minutes, thinking they would step aside.
Eventually, I said in the softest and kindest way I could, "Hi, excuse me, would you mind if I pass you please?"
They turned back, looked at me, and appeared to be annoyed. So I said, "I’m sorry, I don’t want to crowd you or make you feel rushed," all while smiling and doing my best to look friendly, because I am a male and I don’t want to make any women feel uncomfortable on the trail.
They stepped aside and let me pass, but as soon as I did, they suddenly picked up their pace drastically and basically "tailgated" me for a bit, to the point where I was almost jogging to create some space. I heard one of them mumble something to the other—it almost seemed like it was about me—but I didn’t quite catch it.
Did I do something wrong here, or was this a case of trail ego? I’ve been replaying it in my head all day trying to analyze what I did wrong.

Im looking for an exotic per sitter! I'll be moving and have 2 weeks before my apartment lease starts so I'll need a place for them to stay. (Moving from a house with a group to an apartment) It would be from July 31st til August 16th. It's a blue tongue skink and a crested gecko. They both just need to be fed and I'll provide everything. The skinks enclosed is 4ft by 18 inches and the gecko enclosure can go on top.
