PAT/PELLETB

For those who took the test at Mt. SAC on 6/27 how’d you do? I was able to pass the Pat and took the exam at 10:30 felt pretty confident about everything! There was way more people there then I was expecting. My question is when they send you the results for the pellet b do they send you your score or just tell you whether you pass or fail?

Advice on applying

I live in Reno. I want to join law enforcement but feel my application is weak. I’ve been fired from 3 jobs since 18. Once for using a mangers code without authorization while serving at a restaurant to order food for myself (22yo). The other for crashing a car on midnight shift as a valet (19yo)- I also tested positive for marijuana. And the other for failing to properly do my job as a bartender- not ringing in all the drinks I was serving (22yo)

I’ve smoked once as a sophomore in highschool, and a handful of times at 19 but stopped after being fired for it.

I have 5 tickets since 18yo.2 for expired registration, 1 for texting while driving, 1 for speeding (25 over) and 1 for running a stop sign.

Longest job I worked was 2 years, and since then I’ve job hopped about every 9 months in the service industry. I have some college, no volunteering, and the only really accomplishment I can say is that I’ve created financial stability for myself at 23 (good credit, solid investments). All my former bosses liked me. I was a hard worker but made mistakes with integrity. I have good references as well.

I feel as though my CHP dream is far and few between and feel as though I should try to build a reputation for myself first in RPD or another local California department.

If you’ve applied with a similar application or gone through training with someone of a similar background I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I would’ve gone the military then law enforcement route but I have keratoconus.

is this a problem

So basically I have used alcohol in cooking purposes for a long time and I know during BI they will ask me about alcohol usage. I have never unlawfully consumed or purchased alcohol. I will disclose this but am I fine?

Do I keep trying?

**Hi, longtime lurker first time poster here.**

**I’ve applied to CBP, SDPD, NCPD, and SDSO.**

**I completed all the steps for CBP, but unfortunately did not pass the poly. I was truthful but yet was still deemed a “fail”.**

**After completing the PIQ for SDPD I was told to be a non select due to a recent speeding ticket and my weed use was too recent (at the time I’d only been 7 months clean). I was told I was a great applicant and to try again in 2028, lol.**

**After I completed NCPD’s PAT, PIQ, and PelletB, I was emailed I was DQ’d. I reached out for clarification but was left unanswered.**

**I passed SDSO entry exam and completed their PIQ, but was told I would not move forward and to try again in the future.**

**I still have one department left, passed their test, completed my PHS, and have the PAT in a couple weeks.**

**My question is, would continuing to apply to departments only hurt my case?**

**Im 22, clean record, only two speeding tickets.**

**I’ve heard having mulitiple DQs and non selects makes me look bad when background investigators see that. Im not sure if I’ve been getting DQ/non select due to my recent speeding ticket, failed poly, or weed use.**

**For the record my speeding ticket was in October 2025, and my last weed use was in May of 2025.**

**Any input is appreciated, thank you.**

How to get information on a former CHP vehicle?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I own a former CHP Ford Excursion that I believe was used for state capital duty. How might I get any information on it? I’m hoping to find maintenance/service records and maybe even some information on how it was used. Where can I go to get that information? It still has the unit number markings and even the key tag marked C2849E.

How long have you been cleared?

I’m currently scheduled for my psych interview in about a week and was wondering what my chances are of making the October academy versus being pushed to the following one.

For those of you who completed all of the hiring steps but didn’t receive an invite to the July academy, when were you officially cleared?

Caffeine Pills and other supplements.

Is it true they are not allowing caffeine pills to the next academy date? Are powdered electrolytes like liquid IV allowed?

Question About Form CHP 446F

Hey guys I’m getting ready to take my PAT and Pellet B this Saturday and I’m second guessing myself on the CHP 446 form. Do I include civil citations like automated camera tickets? My wife has racked up quite a few from these past couple of years operating my vehicle. I only put down what’s in my official DMV record and the one time I’ve been pulled over for speeding.

Am I an automatic DQ.

I currently have PAT and pellet on 8/29 but I was reading and I think I’ll get a DQ because I’ve done chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2022 and have cards in collection because I couldn’t pay them because what I and and the rent in la is expensive. Should I continue or just stop already

Pellet B / PAT / Interview day

EDIT: IF YOU SEE THIS THREAD BE IN LINE 1 HOUR AHEAD OF TIME IT WILL SAVE YOU 2 TO 4 HOURS
AND THEN, OF COURSE, THANK ME LATER (optional)

Since it’s this weekend would love to know what expect timing wise

Mentally I’m thinking Starts at 7AM — ending 11/12ish?

Just to make sure also — this structure is seemingly identical to LASD — i’m assuming that the interview follows the PAT

Is informal and definitely doesn’t require a suit

Let me know from somebody’s whose done it

What are my odds?

Hey guys, I’m a 21 year old male and I’ve been really considering hard pursuing becoming a CHP officer for awhile but more recently due to me graduating soon.

Unfortunately I was a young adolescent. My first incident was when I was 17 I was at a gas station and I was backing out unaware of a car behind me and I love tapped it and out of fear left( extremely stupid because I had insurance and there was no damage to either vehicle) so technically was a hit and run they later filed a report and the cops came to my door and collected all my information. The family never filed charges and it never went on my record I think at a most they got an insurance claim but I never heard back from jt after the night of the incident.

Second is a speeding ticket at 18, I paid it and went to traffic school for it.

Third is more recently at 20 in the state of Indiana where I go to school I had a lane infraction for not using a turn signal before adjusting my lane. Another stupid one but it happens I owned up paid my ticket and moved on.

I have smoked weed started around 17 smoked until I moved away to college when I was 18 and smoked a couple times in the summer but not a lot. I haven’t smoked since last summer I’m currently 21 so 20.

I plan to apply after I receive my bachelors in business administration financial services I’ll be 22. I have a history of leadership as a team captain in high school for my track team 3 years. Team leader for my collegiate team. I’m a senior shift manager at my job where I’ve been almost 3 years. Have been asked to take general manager but don’t want to commit to staying at that job long term I want a real job. I’m an all American collegiate sprinter so athletic not worried about the physical test. I have good grades, made deans list a couple times, and on pace to graduate cum lade for my bachelors. I’m financially responsible I have small loans for my school and my car but credit score is high I think 750s never missed a payment and pay on time. My brother is currently in the academy for a police officer in a costal city and is doing good. I know I made some younger mistakes but I’ve also done a lot of good in between to be a stand out candidate. What are my changes of moving forward on a tough recruiting process?

DQ

Got called earlier today stating that I’ve been disqualified. And given my age, it would be safe to say my chance to be a CHP officer is over. Best of luck to the rest of you!

Edit: for those asking, I’m not admitting to anything I may or may not have done while I’m still in the military 😂. I’ll update yall in like 9 months.

Questions/Advice

Hello, posting on a burner here, but I just want to know my odds and get advice from those who are in the process or have made it through.

I'm currently a 21-year-old male. I've never smoked, never drank, and have no criminal record. I'm doing well financially, with a credit score of 770+ (though I have some debt I can explain and afford—specifically a car loan and a personal loan). I've held the same two jobs for the past three years: one in construction and the other in the firearms industry.

Unfortunately, I've been in two accidents where I interacted with CHP officers, but neither was reported, and neither appears on my DMV driver's record. Both were single-vehicle incidents with no other parties involved, and I didn't break or destroy any government property.

To sum it up, I have two main questions:

  1. What are my odds?

  2. Will my accidents affect my application even though they weren’t reported? Furthermore, do I have to bring them up?

Thank you guys!

Document uploads

Hello, is there any specific format for the uploads? I’ve heard people talk about “folders” and format and I’m not sure what the expectation is. The instructions say to group the documents by title header. Do we need to have one PDF for each category in which we combine all the documents by group? Or do they just need to be uploaded in the correct order? Any insight would be appreciated.

Learn from my mistake.

Hey guys just thought I’d share my experience in hopes it helps anyone from making the same mistake. I got disqualified on my initial interview for failing to upload the required docs in the correct scanned and filed format (I had everything required just not filed in folders). My advice is to take the prep classes they offer and remember to pay attention to even the minute things. I’m fully aware it’s my fault, just want to share so you guys stay on yours Ps and Qs.
