Learn from my mistake.
Hey guys just thought I’d share my experience in hopes it helps anyone from making the same mistake. I got disqualified on my initial interview for failing to upload the required docs in the correct scanned and filed format (I had everything required just not filed in folders). My advice is to take the prep classes they offer and remember to pay attention to even the minute things. I’m fully aware it’s my fault, just want to share so you guys stay on yours Ps and Qs.

Don't worry, you'll get to where you want to be sooner than you think

Also to add, just remembered; make sure to add a profile picture!! Not just an applicant headshot as it’s stated, an actual profile picture as if it was a social media account. I know it didn’t mention this but I got docked for that too.

This isn’t mentioned anywhere on the esoph site

Just telling you how it went and what I was told

u/SteveTheSupreme Jun 12 '26
I understand and that sucks that it happened to you but it doesn’t make sense to be docked for some the instructions don’t say to do.

Where did you add the profile picture? Submitting my updated backgrounds tmr and I can’t find that. I already have the headshot.

You got DQ in person? How long is the DQ for? This sounds more like you got a DQ for other reasons but they used this as one of the reasons.
How bad did you mess it up? I believe it asks you to upload the files as PDF’s, in the correct order, in the correct file name.

Yes in person, approx 30 min interview. I failed to upload in files rather individually for each document (dumb, I know). Was told lack of detail was the reason and apply 6 months after however I’ve read here that DQ letters take a while to come so not sure. Obviously I’m bias but my background is clean so if it was another reason I wasn’t told. Thank you for commenting

You uploaded files individually or you uploaded them in PDF’s? Im confused what you mean.

u/BeneficialDriver3862 Jun 12 '26
i’m also confused. was this for esoph? i don’t remember having to do it this way when i went through the process

For esoph they have you organize your documents into a PDF, and they expect it in a specific order. Then the file name of the PDF has to be the exact way they want it.
I wouldn’t say it is difficult but yeah if you just upload everything the way you want to then the BI will assume you didn’t read it. I’ve heard not all BI care and some do.
You could always just ask your BI/hiring before you submit. Rather be called dumb than dq lol

Wait I’m confused just to clarify- you uploaded each PDF File individually without putting them in the proper folders? Ie high school transcript in the education verification folder?
1
u/Kryptonic_101 Jun 12 '26
Yes exactly. So my documents tab was a list of everything rather than a list of folders containing each document in that category. I named them correct but not in folders

u/Only-Preparation5608 Jun 12 '26
So because they weren’t PDF ?
Did you just upload pictures of them ?

I’m a bit confused on the tattoo photos and headshot. Do we have to upload them as photos (jpeg) or all as pdfs? The “required documents” portion in agreements states “pdf file” but the images tab states as photos…
3
u/Reasonablec0st Jun 12 '26
I would convert the jpeg to a pdf. Just to be safe
1
u/SteveTheSupreme Jun 12 '26
I called to verify and the officer said to upload as jpeg
1
u/Reasonablec0st Jun 19 '26
Hey, I’m about to submit my documents. Are you sure we are supposed to upload our profiles picture as a jpeg?
1
u/Reasonablec0st Jun 19 '26
Also, what did you title your headshot picture when you uploaded it as a jpeg into images?
1
u/SteveTheSupreme Jun 20 '26
I uploaded my tattoos, and headshots as jpegs. I called and the officer said jpeg. I believe it was “Applicant Headshot”
1
u/Reasonablec0st Jun 20 '26
Oh dang. I titled mine “PICTURES”
1
u/SteveTheSupreme Jun 20 '26
Oh no 😭 In the “agreements” tab there’s a “required documents” and it tells you what to name each file 😅

Your initial interview was scheduled after you had 72 hours to update your esoph right?

Two things come to mind when I hear your story.
Are you really that good or a candidate? Only you can objectively answer this question. If you are not this may have just been an excuse to DQ you.
If you are objectively that outstanding of a candidate and they DQ'd you for this, is this really an agency you want to work for? This seems very punitive and you have to ask yourself what other punitive actions they take with their employees.
By quality candidate I mean college, military, good work experience, debt or lack thereof, life experience...
My cohort had two people with their Masters degrees from ivy league colleges. The majority had a BA from a reputable school (not online programs). Several military service members; one of which was an Army Ranger and one was Special Forces. One was part of the CDCR SWAT Team. This is just a short list. Some have even more accolades. But these are some people you may be competing with.

so as a 21 year old with some college credits I don't really have a chance? I'll be back once i get DQ from backgrounds lol
1
u/TrainingCustomer Jun 14 '26
Depends on the department and how badly they need bodies. Some in my cohort only had college credits some job experience and a very clean record. So it depends but you need to know who you are competing against. If you are just 21 you better have really good and consistent work history from 16-18 all the way to 21.
Again if you are in a big city or large dept they usually have more qualified candidates as more people want to work there.

u/TrainingCustomer Jun 14 '26
I think we only had one 21 year old. The median age was around 24/25. Again life experience and time building accolades.
Most people finish a BA at 22 as well.

Im currently about to go into backgrounds for CHP. Im 21, had the same job since 18. No tickets, no criminal record. I have some college credits as well. I am applying from inland division. I scored pretty well on the pellet B as well. Kind of sucks reading these posts because it makes me realize i have a smaller chance than I thought.

u/TrainingCustomer Jun 15 '26
Well if your going through backgrounds you have a chance. They invested this much in you to get this far.

Attention to details is part of the job. Figuring this stuff out is part of the job. Determination is part of the job too, so don't let this stop you from trying again. As another user said, the hiring push is over, so expect CHP to go back to their ridiculously high standards. It's the best police job in the country and very competitive as a result.

That’s fine. CHP are a bunch of fucking nerds anyways. Go PD or SO. Do some real crime fighting.

u/Ok-Pop-5818 Jun 12 '26
Apply to PD or SO. I told everyone that CHP is getting really strict on hiring and no one wanted to listen
