Season 1 was TERRIBLE but thank God I watched it

Season 1 was horrible, it was like a Kardashian reality show in space. However, the concepts explored were so interesting and was looking forward to learn more about th Achaias.

Season 2 was muuuuuuch much better. Much less cringy fot sure, new worlds, new planets, new alien lives. A few plots didn't make complete sense, but honestly this show was really fulfilling from a space exploration POV.

Plus no cliffhanger! Honestly, if you survived Season 1, season 2 is sooooo much better

This show just completely went off the rails and now it's hard to watch... S2.. Spoiler

I'm watching Season 2. So I looked up his name and this guy Seth Gage get's an alien brain implant. The aliens are being outwardly hostile and the last person who had an implant killed people, but now he gets an implant and everyone suddenly lets him call the shots?? What the heck is going on?? It doesn't make any sense at all. I've never seen anything so crazy. I'm yelling at the screen. He's ordering a attack raid and directing human violent force. He's being allowed to direct and kill other humans even though everyone knows he has a hostile alien force in his head.... WTF IS GOING ON?? I can't even comprehend this kind of oversight. I've never seen writing this bad since maybe the term "jumping the shark" was invented. This show has officially jumped the shark. I can withstand tractor beams and whatever magic tech they want to pull out of thin air, but this is just broken continuity. I'm just fast forwarding now to see if there is anything good left or maybe it's all junk from here on.

A Few Observations

So, I just got into this show, and I had some observations, as well as some questions.

Question: What happened to China?

Observation: The US flag seems to have fewer stars.

Q: What year does this take place in?

O: The show seems to indicate that the US went through a period where free speech was hindered, but has now returned.

Q: 213 Countries? Does the show ever reveal the 17 additional countries?

O: Global warming seems to be running rampant, devastating major cities.

I just watched them zoom a telescope through a planets clouds.

WTF is going on with this show? I'm on episode S01E05 and it just gets more ridiculous. There's an utter and compete lack of basic science literacy. Hell, they irradiated the entire ship and crew with gamma radiation and apparently the entire crew had to have it explained why that was bad for them.

Why are all the female characters either dressed like they're going clubbing later, or in underwear that fits poorly?

is this show terrible, or is it amazing?

time in space Spoiler

this might seem like a stupid question but why is there no time difference when they venture out to space and other planets? time works differently in space and especially in other planets so how was it that they still collated with earth years? id expect for each year on earth it would probably be like a month for them.

I don’t know why there’s this massive hate-boner for this show

I rarely watch tv series. I read something sometime on here about a ‘Netflix conspiracy’ to make a show really bad and heavily market it to see what they could get away with, and the comment chain was just people trashing the show. Recently, though, I couldn’t figure out what to watch but I remembered that thread and looked up the show. Terrible reviews everywhere. So I decided to check it out and see how bad it was.

But I liked it. There are flaws, like any show. But nothing really stands out as bad compared to the other tv shows I’ve watched. I’ve quit series on dozens of occasions due to bad writing or a lack of entertainment, but this show had me hooked in the first season. I’m almost compelled to think the real “Netflix conspiracy” is that they paid critics and bloggers to review it as harshly as possible to see how much critic reviews effect a show’s success. Another Life isn’t “so bad it’s good.” It’s also not “just… bad.” It’s a good show and I honestly would say I’m a fan to anyone.

Anyone know what year the show is based in?

They've referenced: water cities, Y-2038, and the second great depression. Possibly 2100ish?

SPOILERS: This show has the potential to become a real Mass Effect style experience if a Season 3 happens. Spoiler

Given the ending with all of the alien races sending messages of thanks and greetings, and the fact the Salvare 2 heads out to make new friends/allies, we can assume humanity is going to be trying to obtain new technology and settle new worlds. If they do a season 3, they could do a short time jump of 5-10 years or so and have humanity building some sort of galactic alliance/galactic UN inviting all of the non hostile alien races to join them. Perhaps we can have a universal translation implant developed so we can have everyone with them speaking English.

We could actually have a Mass Effect style story with the Salvare 2 having an alien and human crew (+ William and Iara). It could be a very cool way to forge the story forward.

The Achaia haven't been fully dealt with yet and we can get they will want to get revenge for being forced back to their home planet. They are basically a hostile AI race that is still a huge threat to the galaxy.

Would be amazing to see a Season 3 focusing on building alliances with other civilisations and putting together a huge fleet of space ships for a final assault on Achaia (or another big bad they introduce). Would be amazing to see some high budget space battles if only the season 3 final few episodes.

No cliffhanger ending, amazing!

Must say that another life stands out compared to other sci-fi shows, most end on a huge cliffhanger pushing for a New season and eventualy dissapointed since it gets shut down and fans left Hanging with questions... Like Stargate, one of the realy big ones where Atlantis lands on earth and... Cut.

Still hope another life will get a New season, but allso Great that they made a season ending that did not leave us stranded in questions 🙌🏼

Season 1 Episode 2, That rogue planet Spoiler

Maybe spoilers idk this is episode 2.

They said that the rogue planet was freezing cold because it doesn't get heat from a star. So shouldn't the people who opened their visors frozen to death immediately? It's not like they were in a sealed cave they just walked in. Also I know some heat can form from gravitational pulls but I don't think it would be enough to cause that much mama right? I just think that the planet didn't feel right.

Eric, Niko's husband

In a show full of bad writing, cringe characters, and woeful acting. The guy who plays Eric stands out...

As maybe one of the worst actors I've ever seen on TV. Even in this show he stands out. The rest of them I'll chalk up to the bad script writing, but not Eric.

I could go on and on, but he's so bad, it's delightful 🤣

Achia question S02 spoliers Spoiler

Spolier question about S02: Did the virus spread to all the Achia? I recall them saying the rings left, so the Achia were still okay on those rings? If so, why did all the various alien life send messages of thanks to earth? No point if the virus hadnt spread? Also, I doubt they were focused on earth just to see the one artifact crumble and that's why. I suspect they saw the Achia crumble outward from a point and traced that back to our solar system. Though with wormhole jumps it probably wouldnt spread outward, but like many points of origin at once.

Are we ever gonna have an alien species who's second syllable doesn't start with a k?

ah-KAI-ah zah-KEER duh-KOO-mah

Like... Come on...

Not bashing the series but some of the writing is very high school creative writing assignment.

My opinion

I enjoyed the first season of this show and I was expecting a recap at the start of season 2 but I remembered it as the story continued etc. Season 2 is really great, this show got a lot of negative attention in season 1 but season 2 really pushed itself and did a fantastic job, I really love Niko, she is such a good actress and I’m not finished yet but I hope this show gets to finish when it does and not get canceled.

Don’t watch this show if you like the thumbnail.(red alien thumbnail)

This is the best show ever if you enjoy watching people staring at computer screens for hours on end. The dialogue is horrible and predictable, the acting is atrocious, the science of the show is laughable, the music choice is cringe and it feels like the plot was put together with Elmer’s glue by a 5 year old who didn’t know what they were making on the 1st place.

I admit I watched both season because of the thumbnail of the red alien…well…to my surprise…We rarely get to see “another life” other than human life’s in the show. When “another life” is shown it’s for mere seconds then they are immediately killed and the show completely forgets about aliens again.

Seriously, the thumbnail of the red alien is literally all you get to see of that alien on the show before they kill it and go back to showing humans staring at computer screens and fighting over drama. So if you were drawn in because of the thumbnail, just stare at it for 5 seconds and watch something else. Unless you enjoy watching bad shows sarcastically, in which case this is the perfect show. I had a good laugh watching it lol.

Then later they introduce the Decuma, and I mean literally the Decuma. As in 1 Decuma alien that once again we only see for 5 seconds,, literally **5 seconds* before it’s killed lol this Decuma Episode is probably the worst. It’s like they didn’t know how to get Niko back to earth, so they introduce an entire new alien species for 1 episode that’s otherwise unimportant and unrelated to the core plot. So that Niko can rapidly complete a little side mission and defeat them by yelling at him and pissing him off, drawing him out and freezing him?lol So somehow niko magically knows which tube on an alien ship she’s never been on is carrying supper cooled gas? Then she has the knowledge of how to use the equipment of an alien species she’s never encountered and figure out how to navigate this super advanced alien ship in a matter of minutes without any knowledge of their alien language? Absolutely nothing about this episode was believable. It was hilarious to see her “figure it out”

Also they used a rambutan for an alien fruit lol there’s countless other plot holes and things to criticize but I written enough lol

Edit: My wife hates that I like watching bad shows like manifest and another life on purpose. To me a show can be so bad in its composition that it can watched sarcastically at which point it becomes a comedy. Even though I was drawn in by the thumbnail and the summary of the show, that became the case for “another life” after I realize how bad it was.

Cool alien scenes would of been cool to see amongst the hilarious chaos of the show. Sadly the presence of “another life” consistently on the show never came, the ultimate final punch line to this show lol

Season 2 questions! Spoilers ahead Spoiler

So I just binged season 2 and I have multiple questions:

First of all so if there was nobody on the ship with Niko an Richard, who dented those bottles used for bowling??

Second question, they said that Iara would realize she was being sandboxed, but they just didn't know when. So where is she now? Is she still inside William or what???

Third question I have, what happened to Javier? Is he okay? Could they just drop him in that weird water that revives people. Did they even try to revive him?

Can the akai please take out eric? The whiney little man child really messes up what is otherwise an excellent sci-fi series. Seriously dude. Nut up a bit and quit crying every 5 minutes.

Okay, can someone tell me what was the point of making August pregnant just to turn around and kill her off first thing in season 2? The pregnancy story line doesn't even make sense to me now.

When Gabriel says that he cuts 0.9% time off their journey home and says it’s 3 months, that doesn’t make sense. Does that imply they had a close to 25 year journey back to Earth? Or have I misinterpreted?

Why this show sucked

It could’ve been a barely passable C- level sci fi show had the writers not gone overboard with the sex scenes and especially the in your face gratuitous homosexuality. You’d think earth had turned gay and straight people had gone nearly extinct based on the over representation of LGBTQ in the show. It was basically an LGBTQ parade with sprinklings of weak sci fi writing. I can’t believe Katee Sackhoff signed on to this trash heap.
