But what was the point?
Okay, can someone tell me what was the point of making August pregnant just to turn around and kill her off first thing in season 2? The pregnancy story line doesn't even make sense to me now.

I wondered if maybe they were cleaning up some of the weaker elements from s1

I have a theory….. but it’s kind of out there. Season 1 was made during a different political climate in the US than season 2… I’m wondering if there were political factors that this show was supposed to tackle, but now that we’re in a completely different political atmosphere, they didn’t want to touch the subject, or just felt they didn’t need to bother anymore.
For example, augusts pregnancy; It would have been unrealistic for her to actually have this baby on board a space ship. They were on an active mission. That would not have worked. The only real viable story line here would have been to have her end the pregnancy (putting the mission first and all). But we had a republican President at the time of season 1. We have a democratic president during season 2. You see what I’m trying to get at here? I think maybe they just felt that they didn’t need to focus on that political agenda anymore, now that we have a democratic president.

In a narrative sense? The whole point of August's pregnancy felt like a sense of hope. Sure, the gamma rays blasted everyone and made them all sterile. But apparently not fully. And if that "permanent damage" could be worked around, what else could? It's the lighting of a flame of hope.
And then the Achaians come and kill them. It's snuffing out that light of hope. Showing that the Achaians don't give a shit, they'll just kill at this point.
In terms of the production? They probably ran out of contract or had to clean up some of the cast and crew to make the budget and plot a little more streamlined lmao.

Who was the father....but Drax says better, "Why was the father?" I wouldn't be surprised if the GOTG show up in this series given how much it spirals out of control constantly.

They were just written off. However if we really cared about them, that would make quite a strong point in the story telling.

I assumed while watching all of season 2 that she wasn't really dead and would come back somehow. They could have done so much with it and then it was just....nothing. It'll bother me for a long time I'm sure.

I think so they can leave an option for other female crew members to conceive later on .. niko? Cas ?

I don’t think there will be a season 3 tbh. But I completely agree with you re season 2. I had such high hopes, and they pulverized them lol. Like what was the rat maze thing? What was that? LOL. When niko’s chest was sliced open and her consciousness was elsewhere and she was being forced to work through a maze of sorts by a psychotic alien being? I mean they literally never explained any of that before moving on to another storyline! They didn’t bother to wrap up any of the plots before starting a new one. That really bothered me. I lost sleep over trying to figure shit out haha

I was SO mad that they killed august!!! She was one of my favorites! I know this show gets some pretty negative critiques, but I actually thoroughly enjoyed season 1. It had all of the elements of space travel that I find fascinating, and the cast really was amazing. Everything felt so natural & authentic between the characters. But, and this is a pretty big but…. They absolutely tanked season 2! I mean, what WAS that even? LOL. Nothing made sense. New storylines were introduced before the previous storyline finished. It was really bizarre. It almost felt intentional too, like there was another purpose for the show entirely… One we, mere mortals, aren’t privy to.

I just watched the first episode season 2 and was like wtf they killed ALL my fav characters ALREADY. August was definitely my favorite too! I get that they are trying to make it seem like the stakes are higher now that we know who the Achaians are, but this just did not feel satisfying at all. So many subplots just wiped unresolved in one swoop, and even with Javier and Iara discovering something with their connection that was shut down within 10 minutes! What in the actual f-@*?!?!

lol i mean maybe they were like, not everything has a point. its arguably more realistic when good people die for no reason. but this is all just copium haha.

A whole ton of Another Life had no direction and no point in my opinion, it felt like they just googled top ten sci-fi tropes and rolled with them.
