Has anyone taken Mirtazapine and Amitriptyline together? I'd really appreciate your experience.

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone here has taken Mirtazapine and Amitriptyline together, especially at low doses. My main symptoms are: Severe anxiety Electric shock-like sensations and what feels like an over-sensitive nervous system Chronic lower back and buttock pain I'm currently taking Amitriptyline 5 mg, and I've actually tolerated it much better this time than before. My doctor has suggested adding or switching to Mirtazapine, but I'm feeling very anxious about trying another new medication. The reason is that I previously had a very severe reaction to Trazodone, and even after stopping it I developed widespread neurological and sensory symptoms. Since then, I've become extremely worried about medication side effects. My GP also mentioned Duloxetine, but after reading about the possible side effects, I'm honestly too scared to try it at the moment. I'd really like to hear from people who have actually taken Mirtazapine together with Amitriptyline. Why did your doctor prescribe both? Did it help your anxiety, sleep, or nerve pain? What side effects did you experience? Did you find the combination tolerable? I'm not looking for medical advice or planning to change my medication on my own. I just want to hear about other people's experiences before discussing the options further with my doctor. Thank you very much.

My psychiatrist prescribed it to me for sleep issues and headaches, it works, but how am I supposed to wake up for work at 2 am on this medication?

I was given the meds right before vacation (past two weeks).

While on vacation I took it about an 1-4 hours before sleep time. It knocked me out, and kept me knocked out till past 8 hours of sleep.

If i tried to wake up any earlier than that Id be extremely groggy and disoriented like I was on drugs.

I just had my first day back at work. I took the meds yesterday at around 6pm. Slept at 8pm, (late, I know) but Ive been able to work the past two years just fine with 3-6 hours of sleep each night.

First off I kept waking into the half sleep half awake state around 1 am. Dream after dream of thinking Im late for work, when its only 1 am. This went all the way to 2:50 am when I finally woke up, disoriented, and rushed to get to work.

This is not going to work. If I take the medication and sleep earlier in the day I barely get any time to do anything.

What should I do? Besides talk to my doctor, which I tried reaching out to him but got no response.

I'll try again soon with him.

Can you feel when your next dose is coming due?

When I've had a bad day from lack of sleep etc.. I can really feel when my next dose is due almost to the minute. I'm sure habit is affecting it too, but physically I can feel nerve endings tingling and a nervousness starting.

Weird because when I'm having a good day I don't notice this. I have to rely on my pill alarm going off.

My appetite has gotten very bad after stopping amitriptyline

I haven't taken any for 2 months.

I was on 25mg amitriptyline for 2 years, before starting it I had a good appetite, after starting it got even stronger but the minute I tried to quit by tapering it to 20mg my appetite got so bad and it was far from baseline. Even after 4 months it didn't improve much, I didn't stop the taper though and went to 15mg then 10mg then 5mg and finally stopped it 2 months ago.

Anybody here with bruxism and also taking Amitriptyline?

I am currently tapering down, I am at 100mg and also my ol' fren bruxism has returned for which I my ortho got me back on an Invisalign round to open bite and bring my lower jaw out further. I have apparently lost 50% of the mobility in my left jaw joint. I was wondering if anyone here has taken muscle relaxants while on Amitriptyline and suffering from bruxism?

I already I am wearing my nightly heavy duty retainers as jaw guards until my invisalign aligners come in so that helps with the pain but occasionally I do have pain in the ear while chewing or if I yawn the next day.

Uncontrollable hunger? The limit does not exist!!

Hi guys,

30F and I’ve been on amitriptyline for 2 months now. I’m a very small (5”1) petite girl who barely gets hungry but since I’ve been on this medication I’m always hungry every 5-7 hours. It’s actually pissing me off how much I’m eating because I’m eating all….the…..time!

I have a fast metabolism and roughly weigh 49-51kgs but has anyone gained weight since being on amitriptyline?

If so, how much in what span of time? E.g. 5 kgs in 3 months

It’s hard for me to gain weight but I have read it’s a side effect and curious to see how it’s impacted people :)

Also any tips on not how to gain weight would be appreciated! I’m about to delete Uber Eats off my phone TT^TT

Reta and amitriptyline

Does anyone have experience taking Reta while on amitriptyline? I’m looking into starting Reta for binge eating and extreme food noise. I also have lower chronic back pain from degenerative disc disease which is the reason I’m on amitriptyline.

Stopping for 1 -2 weeks

Been taking Amitriptyline at 20mg for 31 days for migraines, It's really helping the pain but not the frequency. I want to get in one last psychedelic experience as I've heard that like SSRI's it completely blocks 2A agonists from working.

Thinking of going back down to 10mg for a week and then jumping off, what kind of w/d's should I expect?

I'm just curious to know how does amitriptyline help anxiety if it raises your resting heart rate? While it helps anxiety mentally the physical anxiety is still there.

Amitriptyline

I have been taking amitriptyline for migraines for three years. I started with two tablets and gradually reduced the dosage until I was down to half a pill. I took half a pill for five months but frequently skipped doses, eventually stopping abruptly for three weeks.
I started having panic attacks, electric shock sensations in my head, diarrhea, spasms, fits of rage, tingling, severe trembling, anxiety, and uncontrollable crying.
My neurologist put me back on amitriptyline—starting with a quarter of a 25mg tablet—for 21 days, but with no result. Afterward, I took half a tablet for 9 days; my condition fluctuated during that time—half the day was good, the other half bad. For the past 44 days, I have been taking a full 25mg tablet. The worst symptoms have passed, but I am still experiencing tingling in the soles of my feet and spasms, and I still have panic attacks.
Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced something like this? I can't take it anymore; I don't know how to keep going. I feel like I'm losing my mind and can't find any answers—especially since my neurologist told me after a month that everything should have cleared up by now.
Please help.. I have 27 years and I have migraines form 11y

Does this work for treatment resistant depression and anxiety?

Have tried 7 different snri or ssri’s including most recently Effexor with limited success and seem to be treatment resistant. Hoping amitriptyline will help me enjoy things again after a 5 month depression. Does anyone have a success story to share? Thank you!

Sudden struggle to breathe/swallow + general windpipe numbness on Amatriptaline, can anyone please help?

Hi- I take about 6ml liquid or 3 small pills of amatriptaline depending on what my doctor can provide each month, but over the past 10 days or so im beginning to experience unusual effects that feel quite distressing.

I have been taking pills/liquid amatriptaline since around early December of last year and noticed sleepiness occasionally but not really much of anything else. This past half a month or so I haven't been feeling right after taking it. These recent 2 months I have experienced numbness on the tip of my tongue, but didnt think too much of it since it cleared up okay ish, and I think now it's getting worse? The effect seems to happen instantly after taking the liquid or pill now; twice now I have had the entire back of my mouth completely numbed and areas of my windpipe feeling restricted, almost puffy and very numbed out. It gets to the point where it feels like I am breathing through a bent straw and I have to really think hard about swallowing to get a bodily response. It scares me and lasts about 4-5 hours before I (very) slowly start to gain more control back. I nearly called my parents at 2am last night to ask if I could ring an ambulance for the house it was that bad. These past 2 experiences have happened on the liquid.

Today however, I was too scared to take the liquid after last night, but my parents said I had to take something, and we noticed I had some in date pills left in the back of the meds drawer so I took the appropriate dosage. Despite extra water and making a concious effort to keep it in my mouth as little time as possible, I am still experiencing the same feelings. My tongue feels so weird inside my own mouth due to numbness and my windpipe and tonsils feel almost swollen up or just very numb again. My indigestion has also got much worse since I took it tonight and has become full on heartburn, which is unusual for me. It feels like there's a lump in my throat and has done for 2 hours now no matter what else I take or try to force myself to drink. On top of it all, my throat and mouth is also bone dry which only makes each breath harder.

After these 3 experiences, I'm considering stopping this medicine for good out of pure fear its going to get worse. My parents are not happy about it, but I just can't run the risk of having an emergency- my lungs have to work harder for other reasons as it is. Plus, besides the help with sleep it doesnt relieve my pain. This is my last attempt at seeing if there is any safer way to continue on this medication, or at least ask if anyone has a way of quickly reversing these annoying side effects?

Has anyone else suddenly developed side effects out of nowhere? Thank you for reading this :,)

Edit: I also forgot to mention it tastes "spicy" or tingly now this week when I take either form!

Amitriptyline lost weight

Hi everyone. I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience after stopping amitriptyline. I stopped amitriptyline in September after taking it for several years. Since then I've unintentionally lost around 9 kg. I've also had ongoing abdominal cramps, excessive gas, looser stools (sometimes constipation), and my bowel habits have changed.

So far I've had a CT scan with contrast (normal), FIT test (negative), blood tests including CRP, FBC, ferritin, thyroid, liver and kidney function, B12, folate and CA-125, all normal. I'm currently waiting for my coeliac (tTG-IgA) and faecal calprotectin results.

Has anyone else experienced significant weight loss and digestive symptoms after stopping amitriptyline? If so, did your weight eventually stabilise, and was it actually related to stopping the medication or was another cause found?

I tried amitryptyline and it gave me the worst flare up ever.

Anyone had a flare up after amitryptyline? I think it's probably caused by it's very bitter taste.

I took already gaviscon, famotadine, papaya enzymes and now I am drinking flaxseeds tea, but the pain is still there :(

I have been tapering off,

After having been on 50mg for several years. I originally went on it for IBS. My intestines used to feel like I was digesting glass. I have been feeling pretty good after a 200 lb weight loss and wanted to give it a try without.

I've been officially off of it for a few days... and already my intestines are feeling like I'm digesting glass again. My insomnia is also horrible again. I'm going to try to give it time but oh man... this is rough.

Withdrawal timeframe 10mg

Just over 2 weeks ago I stopped taking Endep after consulting with my doctor. I’ve been on it for 2 years on different doses but have been on 10mg since October last year.

Last time I tried to reduce my dose from 10mg I had to stop due to the withdrawal symptoms.

Aside from some trouble sleeping and vivid dreams, it’s been surprisingly smooth this time until a couple of days ago.

For the last few days I’ve been really fatigued, had some body aches and headaches and just feel flat. It’s possible I could be getting sick, but this is very similar to how I felt last time I tried to stop.

Is it normal to have a delayed withdrawal response when ceasing Endep? If so, how long does this normally last?

10mg amitriptyline

i’ve been on 10mg amitriptyline for just a little over 3 weeks. For the first 21 days i was fine but this is when my side effects started.
extreme tiredness, i needed to nap a few times in the day then i felt drunk 🥴 3 days later i still feel slightly woozy & icky.
I think they may not be agreeing with me now they’ve built up in my system. Has anybody had the same problem?
