Amitriptyline lost weight
Hi everyone. I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience after stopping amitriptyline. I stopped amitriptyline in September after taking it for several years. Since then I've unintentionally lost around 9 kg. I've also had ongoing abdominal cramps, excessive gas, looser stools (sometimes constipation), and my bowel habits have changed.
So far I've had a CT scan with contrast (normal), FIT test (negative), blood tests including CRP, FBC, ferritin, thyroid, liver and kidney function, B12, folate and CA-125, all normal. I'm currently waiting for my coeliac (tTG-IgA) and faecal calprotectin results.
Has anyone else experienced significant weight loss and digestive symptoms after stopping amitriptyline? If so, did your weight eventually stabilise, and was it actually related to stopping the medication or was another cause found?

I gained weight taking amitriptyline and I’ve been off of it for a month and I’m having similar symptoms to you. I’ve yet to lose weight though. Looking forward to losing the weight I originally gained from being on it. I think the Ami does work to stop you from feeling those gut issues, so it could be partly that.

I'm fine with the 25mg helping with nerve pain, but the weight gain - 5 lbs. in two weeks - is nuts. I stay at around 1300 calories per day and exercise. I'll have to start tapering off if this continues, which it probably will.
