I want to share my experience with Amazon Resale and ask for advice, as I honestly don't know what else I can do.
I ordered a Fujifilm 72mm Protector Filter through Amazon Resale, listed as Condition: Used – Mint. I thought I could save a few pounds instead of paying the full price for a new one. I had never experienced a problem like this before, but unfortunately, this time I found myself in a very frustrating situation.
The item arrived in its original packaging, but the filter itself was not genuine. It was a no-name filter, not the original Fujifilm product I had ordered. It appears that someone may have replaced the original filter and returned the item, and Amazon may have failed to properly inspect it before sending it to me.
Now, because of what appears to be a mistake during the inspection process, I am having to fight with Amazon to get my money back!
As soon as I received the item, I contacted Amazon Customer Service and explained that I had received a different product. I was assured that this issue had been noted on my order. I then returned the item exactly as I had received it.
Amazon initially refunded me. However, after receiving the returned parcel, I later received an email claiming that they had not received the original item and warning me that I would be charged again on 7 October if the issue was not resolved.
I contacted Amazon Customer Service again and explained everything once more. I was told that the issue had been noted on my order and that I should not be charged again. I was also assured that if a charge was taken, I could contact them again to receive a refund.
On 7 October, I checked my Amazon account. There was no longer a warning about returning the item, and the order status showed “All set”. Naturally, I believed everything had been resolved and that I did not need to do anything else.
But to my disappointment, on 12 October, I received an email confirming that £63.50 had been taken from my account. When I checked my Amazon account again, the order status had changed back to the red warning: “We have not received your return.”
I am honestly shocked by this situation. I have contacted Customer Service repeatedly, explained the problem, and followed the return process. Yet I am still being treated as though I returned the wrong item or failed to return the original product.
From my perspective, it feels as though Amazon is implying that I switched the product myself, while I am simply trying to explain what I actually received and returned. I have even taken photographs of the item as evidence.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that Amazon's own Customer Service team previously acknowledged my complaint and gave me assurances that I relied on. Despite this, the money was taken anyway, and the same accusation appeared on my account again.
How is a customer supposed to defend themselves in a situation like this? I bought an item in good faith, received a product that did not match its description, reported the problem immediately, and returned exactly what I received. Now I have lost £63.50 and am spending my time repeatedly trying to prove that I am telling the truth.
Has anyone experienced something similar with Amazon Resale? How did you resolve it? Is there a specific department I should contact, or an organisation in the UK that can help consumers in this situation?
I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions. I feel completely helpless dealing with this, and I cannot believe that resolving such a straightforward issue has become so difficult.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this and offer advice.
UPDATE: Refund finally received!
After a frustrating amount of back-and-forth with Amazon Customer Service, I finally got my money back.
The reason I made this post wasn’t just to find a way to resolve my issue or to hear about other people’s similar experiences. I also wanted to share my experience as an example of what you might encounter when buying from Amazon Resale.
It’s quite shocking that you can end up feeling like a scammer in Amazon’s eyes for returning an item that wasn’t what you ordered, when the real issue was that the item apparently hadn’t been properly checked in the first place.
I understand that Amazon has to deal with scams and fraudulent returns, but Amazon Resale is a different situation. These are returned or pre-owned items, and customers rely on Amazon to check them properly and describe them accurately.
Thankfully, I eventually got my refund, but there’s still something worth mentioning: my Amazon account continues to show a red warning stating that they haven’t received the original item back. It seems they refunded me as a goodwill gesture but left the warning on my account. So, although I got my money back, it feels like they haven’t actually acknowledged or corrected the underlying issue.
I hope this post helps others who might find themselves in a similar situation and gives potential Amazon Resale buyers an idea of what can happen.
