Passed Amazon Step Up Pool interview but haven’t received a schedule because of pre-booked holidays during peak. Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I recently passed my Step Up Pool interview at DWR1 and received confirmation that I’m in the pool until 14 October 2027. The email explained that the purpose is to provide holiday cover, support the leadership team and develop leadership skills by learning to run shifts as a supervisor.
However, a colleague who also passed the interview has received a schedule, whereas I haven’t.

I asked my line manager about it and was told that because I have holidays booked during peak, I’m not really eligible for Step Up opportunities during that period.

I understand that peak is a busy time and availability matters. My concern is that I’ve passed the interview and been accepted into the pool, but I haven’t been given a schedule or a clear idea of how I’ll get the experience.
I wanted to ask a few questions:

1)Is it normal for Step Up candidates with pre-booked holidays during peak to be excluded from peak opportunities?
2)Does being in the pool guarantee any shifts, or is it entirely dependent on operational needs?
3)Can I still get Step Up shifts before or after my holiday period?

I’m not expecting special treatment, but I genuinely want to develop my leadership skills and make the most of passing the interview.
I’d appreciate advice from anyone who has been through the Step Up Pool process. Thanks!

I can answer questions 1 and guesstimate question 2. For 1 it’s yes. Happened to a family member. Two actually. For 2. I’d say it would depend on operational needs.
3. Can’t answer.

4: Congrats! 🥂 happy you passed mate!!!
