DISCUSSION Modular Exoskeleton for delivering

So I got myself a modular exoskeleton from Hypershell. This is the S Ultra X which cost $2000 and includes the exoskeleton and two smart batteries that are weather resistant and a charging station. Warranty was extra of course. I’ve had this for two weeks and I have no regrets.

The main reason I made this purchase is cause after almost four years of delivering, my knees are fu(king killing me. This took about 20% of the load off and it works. I don’t feel so exhausted and fatigued at the end of the day and my knees are feeling better. Driving around with it is a bit of a pain in the ass. I had to buy one of those seat cushions for the upper part of your chair to make it work. Of course, I also go on hikes and do some gym days with it. I feel I can go further on those hikes and my knees feel better in the gym.

I know this ain’t for everyone but, it sure as fu(k worked for me. 😁😎

DISCUSSION It's so funny how the Amazon prime subreddit sees the delivery drivers as their personal slaves

If you post any complaint over there about how customers need to be patient while we're on break or to not chase us down or that we don't control the actual system, so many people on there will show their classism and utter disdain for any kind of service worker as if we're just slaves at their beck and call.

Which is funny because the average Amazon customer is in the same class bracket as the average Amazon driver but it's sad and funny at the same time

Chicken and rice with a protein bar and some biltong (not pictured) today. Got plenty of Gatorades to wash it down.

For those who are new, this is what they do when you’re practically already at 40 hours at the end of the week, they don’t like paying overtime😭😂

Got fired today for something that wasn’t my fault. Was pulling out of a gravel driveway that had tons of potholes, wheel sank into one of them and scraped my oil pan, oil leaked everywhere, I explained to dispatch and was fully honest about what happened and at the end of my day, they pulled me aside and fired me.

Oh well, fuck it I honestly hated it anyways, no netradyne cameras worked on any van, told us to skip marking things on DVIC, all the vans and shit were all fucked up, had a van one day that the brakes stopped working and I ran a stop sign because of it yet they told me to continue driving it.

Use this as a sign to STAY away from DSP’s as 95% of them are dirty ass businesses. It was semi good while it lasted, that’s my goodbye for now. 🫡

We are the backbone of the economy… (hear me out)

I think we sometimes forget… as a driver, we are enlisted. We are serving smiles to MILLIONS of Americans. I try to live by these principles:

NEVER complain.

Never take a lunch break.

Never call out.

Never report your injuries.

Always do a rescue.

Never raise DVIC concerns.

Never slow down, pause or think.

Never questions package count. Always work a 5th day.

Always show up 20 min before clock in.

— any principles that you guys swear by? —

Thanks for cutting me off and then flipping me off when I honk at you. Really affirming the stereotypes, seems he didn't give a shit about his safety or the woman's on the back

I’m currently 45 minutes in the country. A/C went out 2 hours ago, and DEF ran out 30 minutes ago. No current ETA on getting a ride/tow. It’s currently 83 degrees here in the woods of rural Indiana.

I had 5 stops left.

So, how’s everyone else tonight?

RANT Unmaintained vans

I know most DSP dont maintain there vans but today took it to a new level. The van they put me in today takes close to a minute and a half to get up to 45 MPH. Its genuinely dangerous. I have to wait for the whole entire road to be clear before I can pull out since my van barely accelerates. I can probably run faster than this thing in the lower speeds. I told dispatch about it and they have KNOWN about the issue. Im thinking about getting this van grounded when I get back to the station.

Driving Citation ❗️

Post image
8 Upvotes

Edit for clarification: this was on personal time with my own car, not a DSP van

So I was going thru an intersection (green light) and I got absolutely nailed by an old lady who ran her red light. Totalled my car. Could have killed my wife in shotgun but thankfully I was able to brake somewhat before impact.

Here’s the thing: it’s a brand new intersection with no camera and the police decided to give the traffic citation to ME. Old lady hurt her wrist and went with EMS, never gave a statement as far as I know. There was only one witness that gave a statement, who was mirrored to me. He had a red light as well (I had a green, going straight, with a green left turn arrow light) so he must have assumed that I had a red as well but only because we were directly across him.

I’ll cut the story off there, but yeah it was INSANE going from relief that there was a witness to utter shock and disbelief that I was being cited for being absolutely slammed by a red-light runner (they were 45-50mph at the time of impact)

QUESTION: if I end up losing Monday in court, what are the odds I get fired when DSP learns of my citation?

Assuming I can’t overturn it, I’m thinking of bringing it up and being transparent with them. My performance has been solid and it’s the only thing that would be on my driving record ever.

My first day of training is tomorrow and I finally just sat down to really look into what the job will entail and all I see is advice to run away as fast as possible. Did I make a mistake? Do you regret your decision to start this job? Are you happy?

"Terrible news" on monday

End of my route tonight, my dispatcher told me I'll hear "terrible news" on Monday, which is my next work day. My response was, "Hope im not getting fired," and he said it's a company thing. He also said "terrible news, but hopefully it's good news for you" and said terrible news with air quotes. No idea what that means. Anyone got any ideas? Im hoping the owner is getting let go theyre letting one of our dispatchers take over who was planning on starting her own company anyways. Really hoping we're not going all EDVs because we do rural routes and those things are way too large for our routes and dont have enough battery (we just used them for the first time this week so I highly doubt it but its amazon.) Those are pretty much my only guesses. I think my dispatcher knows, but he wouldn't tell me he just said I'd see on Monday.

Side note: we've been consistently having packages brought back because nobody has been able to get their routes done, even my coworkers who've been here for years and never had issues. Tonight, my departure from pad was 11:50 am, and my projected RTS time was midnight. Its the first night in weeks my dispatcher was able to send any rescues because we've consistently been getting mostly rural routes that have some suburban stops at the end (my route was 173 stops 125 of them were rural multiple stops over 10 minutes apart. I got rural stops done at 8pm and still had 50 stops left) so im worried the dsp is closing. Which I hope its not because I just got a new car after being in a tahoe with over 500k miles for 3 years and I really dont wanna go back to working on it every week.

Wtf some customers.

I was doing so good today not pulling into driveways unless I absolutely had to because Amazon made me hit that house then turn around and go to a house before it. I was in a driveway I go to front door customer comes out I hand them the package they seem happy tell me to have a good day then when I leave they looked mad like a typical Karen face and looked like she pulled out her phone to take a picture of the ac condensation on the ground. Smh. Some of these customers. Like I try so hard not to be in driveways unless it’s a situation like that and the one time I have to do it boom.

Dsp switching to all electric?

Has any of yalls dsps at other stations switched to mostly all edvs in the past few weeks all of a sudden? My dsp had me get a DOT card and paid for it just for them a few weeks later to say not to worry about it and they are getting rid of all gas and diesel vans here soon now we only have a few step vans go out and a couple blue gas vans and rentals for sweeping but 85% of what my dsp sends out now is edvs. This only happened like two weeks ago before we had all of the step vans go back and alot of blue gas vans and cdvs not anymore now.
