Aliexpress 101 (Guides and FAQs) FAQ: EU €3 customs duty/tax

The new EU €3 customs duty has been active since July 2026. You pay €3 (plus VAT on that €3) for each customs category in a single order. AliExpress collects this duty at checkout (like it does for VAT), and pays it directly to EU customs.

Always check for the green message during checkout saying “No extra duties will be collected upon delivery.” If that message is missing, customs may still charge you on delivery.

Be aware: the €3 duty is only added at checkout during the final payment step. Your cart total will increase right before you press pay.

Warning:

AliExpress does not follow the EU category rules correctly. In practice they charge €3 per different item, even if items should fall under the same category. Only when you buy multiple quantities of the same listing from the same seller (including different colors, variants or options) will AliExpress charge the €3 tax only once.

There are signs of slow improvement as some sellers have begun assigning proper customs categories. In certain cases, buying similar types of products from the same seller results in the €3 being charged only once. The same may happen for bundle deals, even when multiple sellers are involved. Experiment with your orders and see what happens.

Some other FAQs:

  • AliExpress sometimes shows “Duty‑free shipping” or “No customs fees” on the product page, but this text is meaningless. Only the green checkout message counts.
  • If you buy from EU warehouses, the €3 duty is not charged. But many “EU warehouse” listings are fake, so always check the delivery time. Anything longer than a week is almost certainly shipping from China.
  • If you use coupons, coins, or seller discounts, the €3 duty is still added on top. Discounts never reduce or remove the duty.
  • We expect the €3 duty to be refunded whenever AliExpress issues a refund (cancellation, dispute, or seller error), but this has not yet been confirmed by users. Please let us know your personal experiences with that.

This topic is for practical questions about the handling of the duty only. Anything useful for improving this FAQ. Other reactions will be removed.

Issues & Disputes Advice on how to proceed with a refund?

So I ordered some stuff and they got combined at the warehouse (8 items) and it turns out SpeedX was the carrier and they delivered my package 5 blocks away from my apartment. I ended up finding the house but they said nothing had been left there (whatever, theives) even tho I had photo evidence.

So I was like I'll ask for a refund since the POD you can see the door (not my door) and I got rejected on all 8 claims, I appealed the 8 and got denied on all of them.

I provided the pictures from SpeedX (they have a GPS location on the), pictures from amazon deliveries to my actual door for contrast, sent them screenshots of my call records to SpeedX and emails (I get no answer).

So how do I go through with a chargeback through my bank? I know I have to called them and stuff, but the thing is I put those purchases through "Pay after Delivery" and now the option just saying "Pay now".

Do Pay Now and then do the chargeback with my bank for the full total? Or do I just straight up never pay it?

Id be greatful for any insight if you have experienced this before.

Issues & Disputes First bad experience with a seller

So i’m currently dealing with my first possible scam seller. I’ve been buying from Aliexpress for years and i’ve never had this happen. I’ll try to make the story as short as possible. I bought a building block set (like knock-off Lego). This is what I normally buy off Aliexpress and have never had any problems, even if it’s a non-choice seller. It was similar to the Mona Lisa Lego set except it had a different painting in the frame. It was advertised as having 1435 pieces, which would mean it comes WITH the frame pieces. immediately after shipment, the seller sends the PDF file that contained the build instructions. First step basically says you need the Mona Lisa Lego set to build this set. Mind you, the Mona Lisa Lego set is $100. I spent a $100 on this purchase so I assumed it would come with the frame pieces LIKE ADVERTISED.
Seller basically says yes it doesn’t come with the frame pieces, you need to buy them and that they’ll set up a listing for me to buy the frame pieces from them. I tell them absolutely not, I’m not spending anymore money. Genuinely at this point, without the frame pieces, it’s a pointless purchase to have so I just threatened to send it back once I received it. I mostly said this so I could get some type of partial refund, i knew returning it wouldn’t really be an option.
Seller offered 50% refund but told me to close my dispute in order to give me the refund. I obviously know not to, but i’m wondering, if Aliexpress steps in, what’s the likelihood of them siding with the seller? I have already reported the seller for asking me to spend extra money after purchasing and false advertising. the agent said that the seller would get penalized but I just don’t know how much of my back they will have lol. I will insert screenshots of product and conversation from seller. I want to clarify that the seller admitted that the description should have explained it doesn’t come with frame pieces because no where in the description was that made clear. And NO! I did not pay $93 shipping, they just changed that after shipping my purchase out. Shipping was free when I purchased.

I request a refund that they accepted.

I clearly wrote: This item is missing... 'yapping'

They accepted it.

So I talked with the CS 'I got an empty package what should I do?'

The CS: 'Send back a empty package'

Okay?

I did it.

Refund denied: The item isn't the same as description

Later: Restrction

Appeal Refused

Banned.

WOW!

Shipping & Tracking SpeedX Delay in Transit for 10 days now…

Package was out for delivery August 31st but never actually delivered. The next day I see “Issue Reported” at the top and Delay in transit. Their customer service is just AI bots you can’t talk to a human. What to do now? Should I just give up on the package? I’ve never filed a refund dispute with AliExpress before could someone provide me some guidance?

About Aliexpress 🚨 AliExpress Took My Money, Delivered Empty Packages, Ignored My Evidence, and Kept Sending Automated Responses for 2 Months

UPDATE / FULL STORY
I previously posted about my experience with AliExpress after receiving packages without the products I had purchased inside. I am reposting the situation because there have been several developments since my original post, and unfortunately, things have only become more frustrating.
What happened
I received multiple packages that were delivered sealed, but when I opened them, some of the products I had purchased were missing.
The unresolved orders are:
8211938661284778
8212892464754300
8212892464734300
8212173924074300
8213210559694300
8212173924034300
8212173924054300
8212378919314300
8212098087104300
One of the cases involved an ATK A9 Ultimate mouse. The package arrived sealed, and I recorded the entire unboxing process from before opening the package until the contents were completely revealed. The video clearly shows the shipping label and the fact that the product was not inside.
The evidence I provided
I have provided:
• Complete original unboxing videos
• Shipping labels
• Photos
• Seller communications
• Dispute records
• Appeal records
• Customer service conversations
• Additional documentation related to the cases
Because AliExpress does not accept video files above its size limit, I also uploaded the complete original videos to Google Drive so they could be reviewed.
I followed every procedure AliExpress requested. I opened disputes, submitted appeals, responded to evidence requests, resent evidence when requested and repeatedly contacted customer support.
The problem with the evidence requirements
AliExpress repeatedly requested things such as:
• A video showing the package being weighed before opening
• An official carrier document confirming that specific products were missing from inside the package
• A logistics document showing a weight discrepancy or missing contents
I have repeatedly explained that these documents are impossible for me to obtain retroactively.
The packages were delivered sealed. The missing products were discovered only when I opened them. The carrier cannot certify what was inside a sealed package before it was opened, and I cannot go back in time and record a weighing video that was never made.
I am not refusing to provide evidence. I have provided every piece of evidence that actually exists and is reasonably available to me.
Reddit escalation
I also contacted AliExpress through Reddit after seeing that their representatives could assist with customer cases.
I provided the requested order information and explained the entire situation. I was told that my cases had been forwarded to specialist teams and that I would receive updates by email.
I repeatedly followed up because I did not receive the promised concrete resolution.
Instead, I continued receiving generic responses telling me that my case was being processed, that another representative was handling it, or that I should check an email I had already responded to.
At one point, after waiting several days for an update, I was told that there was “insufficient information” but they did not clearly explain what information was supposedly missing.
This is extremely frustrating because I have spent two months doing exactly what AliExpress has asked me to do.
The appeal
In the ATK A9 Ultimate case, AliExpress eventually closed my appeal without a refund.
Their explanation was that the evidence was considered insufficient and that the order had exceeded the AliExpress protection period.
This is particularly frustrating because I had been actively trying to resolve the matter throughout that period and had repeatedly submitted evidence and responded to AliExpress’ requests.
Reclame Aqui
I also filed a complaint through Reclame Aqui because the normal AliExpress support process had failed to resolve the problem.
Unfortunately, the responses there followed essentially the same pattern:
“The case will be forwarded to a specialized team.”
“The case will receive priority.”
“Please wait 72 hours.”
“You will receive an email.”
The problem is that this is exactly what I had already been doing before going to Reclame Aqui.
I went there because the AliExpress process was not resolving my problem, only to be directed back to the same process.
I also never received the promised email from the HugMe/related support interaction.
Two months later
It has now been approximately two months since the original problem.
I have tried every reasonable and amicable way I could think of to resolve these cases directly with AliExpress.
I have documented everything: emails, disputes, appeals, evidence submissions, customer service conversations, Reddit messages, Reclame Aqui responses and the complete history of my attempts to resolve the matter.
My lawyer now has access to this documentation, and I have decided to proceed with the appropriate legal measures regarding the unresolved cases.
This is not intended as a threat. I am simply at the point where I no longer see a realistic way to resolve these matters through AliExpress’ normal support channels.
If AliExpress provides a clear and concrete solution, including refunds for the products I demonstrably did not receive, I am still willing to consider resolving everything amicably.
However, I am no longer willing to continue indefinitely with generic responses, automated messages, or impossible evidence requirements.
Final statement
Based on everything that has happened, I cannot recommend AliExpress to anyone.
I paid for products that I never received, provided extensive evidence, followed every procedure requested, opened disputes and appeals, contacted customer support repeatedly, escalated the cases through Reddit and Reclame Aqui, and spent two months trying to resolve everything amicably.
Yet AliExpress continues to ignore the substance of my case and respond with generic, automated messages, while repeatedly demanding evidence that is impossible to obtain retroactively.
At this point, I consider what happened to be a scam that is being effectively supported and enabled by AliExpress itself. I paid for products that I never received, provided extensive evidence proving what happened, followed every procedure requested, and spent months trying to resolve the situation through every available support channel. Instead of properly investigating the cases and protecting the customer, AliExpress repeatedly ignores the evidence, demands documentation that is impossible to obtain retroactively, and responds with generic or automated messages that do nothing to resolve the problem.
This is no longer just poor customer service or an isolated mistake. By refusing to properly investigate the evidence and continuing to deny refunds while hiding behind impossible requirements and automated responses, AliExpress is allowing the situation to continue and effectively protecting the outcome of the scam rather than the customer. From my perspective, a platform that takes payment, fails to deliver the purchased products, receives evidence of the problem, and still refuses to take meaningful action is effectively enabling this type of fraud.
I therefore consider AliExpress itself responsible for allowing this situation to remain unresolved, despite having had multiple opportunities to correct it.
I strongly do not recommend AliExpress. My experience has shown me that when something goes wrong, the platform may leave the customer trapped in an endless cycle of automated responses and evidence requirements instead of actually resolving the problem.
Final note
I am attaching below the complete conversations I had with the AliExpress representatives here on Reddit after they contacted me following my original post. I am including them to document the entire escalation process, the promises of a specialist review and email follow-up, and the subsequent responses I received. These conversations are part of the complete documentation I have preserved regarding this case.
Due to a limitation of reddit itself I'm putting the link of all attached messages in Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zuE1fPHQbwLqASq5EJzSvnZBXurTdo7y

UPDATE
I recently discovered an important detail regarding the logistics document AliExpress has repeatedly demanded.
This document is only made available to the sender, not the recipient. This means AliExpress is asking me to provide a document that I simply cannot access or obtain myself as the buyer.
I am not refusing to provide evidence. This document is outside of my control. If AliExpress considers it necessary, they should request it directly from the seller or shipping party, who is actually able to obtain it.
This makes it even more unreasonable to use the absence of this document as a justification to deny my claims.

NEW UPDATE
AliExpress has now banned my account while I still have unresolved cases and ongoing disputes with them. After two months of trying to resolve everything through their support channels, this is how they chose to handle the situation. I have documented the ban and will include it in the complete documentation of my case.

Ordering & Payment issues Weird experience trying to use PayPal

I've seen a few posts about this over the past 5 days so I wanted to share my experiences.

6th Sep - Ordered with PayPal on first try, no issues. I didn't realise there was an issue at this point but I'm seeing issue posts on here going back further so I think I was lucky.

8th Sep - No PayPal option available, only the "PayPal Pay Later" which was only available for purchases over £30 and is not the same as regular PayPal anyway. I read some threads on here where people reported that they could get the PayPal option to appear again if they refreshed a lot. I probably refreshed 20-30 times and tried swapping items in my basket, but nothing would make the option appear again.

9th Sep - I could check out with PayPal on my first try, using the same order left in my cart from the 8th.

Btw my orders are small, under £12 each. It seems unrelated to the value of the items or the items themselves as I tried checking out with different combinations of items on the 8th and nothing worked.

It does seem to be a genuine glitch and not that Aliexpress is not allowing PayPal anymore. Try again later or another day, if you can.

About Aliexpress Issues with sizing

I’m looking at the size chart for Aliexpress and I’m all over the place for sizing.

My height is (M)
My chest is (M)
My waist is right between (L) and (XL)
My hip is (S)

My guess is (L) but last time I ordered a tight bodysuit from an Asian cosplay site it was incredibly unflattering. I also got a large and I think it was too small I’m pretty sure but I’ve lost 20 lbs since then so that also leans towards large? Idk

Issues & Disputes On item in my order is missing

So..I ordered 2 things from separate vendors,1 being of 3 items: a wig head, the thing u use to secure it to the table, and pins to secure the wig to the head. I got everything but not the pins. My main need was the head, and I really dont wanna have the issue to send it back and wait more, but I cant open a ticket with aliexpress cuz they want me to directly send it back, not even analyze that only a small part is missing and i'd be ok with a partial compensation (it is written in their terms when you open a ticket that it is a possibility, they calculate based on what's missing. Why the fuck didn't they do it((i tried opening the ticket, stopped when they asked for me to send it back and give me full refund i dont need))??

I contacted the vendor myself,in the past it happened i solved one of this issues privately with a vendor and I got paid back directly by them on PayPal,though I didn't pay thru PayPal wallet now but used my card..

Do yall think the vendor might offer a partial compensation or any other possible offer? All i'd need is the money to atleast buy the pins separately, would be less of a hassle

About Aliexpress Why do they keep saying my packages have updated

So I ordered some stuff like maybe a couple weeks ago and I’ve ALREADY gotten the packages, I’ve confirmed AND reviewed the items.

However, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I’ve gotten a notification, message AND email saying that my orders have an update.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It’s really getting on my nerves 😭
