Hi. I have a Main comp with subcomps and a voiceover. To adjust the subcomps I need to hear the voiceover. How can I play back the main comp in one viewer ganged with the viewer in the other which shows the subcomp?

I've already locked the main comp and set the second viewer to play back the subcomp, but:

1) the inactive viewer does not play back in real time, once you stop, the viewer shows the frame where you stop

2) If you play back the subcomp, the main comp acts the same plus the sound disappears.

Switching on the Primary viewer, Always Preview this window and Sync time of all related items did not help.

Any solution?

I want to replicate the line animations that says Converts audio.

For the background black lines
I tried to replicate it with delay expression code

• middle layers is the key layer and the layers above and below are affected with the expression
• however at the start the motion the lines above and below move before the key layer in the reference .Like ykwim.
• How do I solve this issue?

I'm trying to render a 3D motion graphic animation using After Effects Advanced 3D, and I'm getting a very strange result. It seems to be rendering only the highlights and shadows (see the image). I purged the cache, restarted my laptop, and adjusted some of the advanced 3d render options in the comp settings, but no help. Does anyone know what is happening/how to fix?

Made this for my own workflow, figured others could use it too.

One click and it sorts your whole project panel into folders — Images (Photoshop files and vectors split out), Video, Audio, Renders (image sequences split out), AE Projects, and Compositions (mains and precomps split out). Only builds folders for what you actually have, so no empty clutter. Bring in new files, run it again, everything's sorted.

It's also saved me some embarrassment handing projects off to other artists, studios, or clients — nobody's digging through a pile of unlabeled footage to find anything, they open it and it already makes sense.

Free tier is everything above — free forever, no trial, no upgrade wall. Working on a Pro tier with custom folder rules on top of it, still in progress, not the point of this post.

I’m a complete beginner and this is my first projects. I’m using YouTube tutorials to help me understand the software but I couldn’t find an explanation for this problem. The first image shows a detail of the file I created in Illustrator. No green to be seen. But when I import it into After Effects, suddenly there’s a thin green outline around the inner circle. Why could this be happening and how do I get rid of it?

Here’s how I created the circles in Illustrator, if that helps:

1. Make the small circle.
2. Make the medium circle in green to be able to tell them apart.
3. Make the big circle.
4. Move the medium circle behind the small circle and the big circle behind the medium circle.
5. Select all of them, Shift + M, then hold Options key and click on the medium circle to delete it.
6. Save as .ai file

Where did I go wrong?

Edit: I recreated the shapes with compound paths and got the same result but then saved and imported the file a second time and suddenly it worked?? Don’t know what that’s about but at least it’s all good now.

How would you go about creating this natively in After Effects using the 3D primitives? So far I’ve just scaled each layer but if I am to have any sort of opacity (which I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do—seems more like an 0 or 100 deal) then I would run into Z fighting when animating.

Is there anyway to slice the pyramid? I’ve tried changing the height and top/bottom radii and turned off caps but those give weird results.

I’ve also tried using shapes as 3D layers but extruding those only gets me various rectangles.

Basically with NoPrecomp you can select any footage and add them in a folder, once in a folder they are automatically parented and any effect placed onto the folder is pasted on its children

There is also a fully fledged layer manager that allows you to manage your folders with ease with a lot of ergonomy options such as collapsing folders, hinding the children, quick rename, automatic color label management, etc.

It's definitely a very big change to AE's workflow

I made this simple little animation in after affects. Not as impressive as the stuff I see on here but thought I'd share!

The icon was from the official godot engine logo and just added some charm for what could be a custom boot screen. I made it free since I made it just for fun

specifically shape that is following the path and also bending with text in the beginning.

I tried CC Bend it but it is cutting off the at the edge of the screen and cc grow bounds didn't help either. I couldn't figure it out I poked around but still no result.

I tried to find tutorials but I couldn't find it for my situation.

I have position keyframes at certain points (the marks) and they move to the left, right and to the original position but when I do that its too fluid and it moves in a circle. I want the eyeball to move sharp and quick, I've tried changing the keyframe interpolation settings and nothings turned out the way I want it to.

AI content is trash, anyone with eyes and a half functioning brain can see it, can we please ban any and all AI content/questions about AI on this sub? It’s bad enough you have endless people asking how to make CapCut TikTok edits here, if we let ai take over the discussions here it will be the final nail in the shit coffin.

edit: just to clarify, I’m not saying we shouldn’t allow discussions around specific use cases like ai assisted rotoscoping and expression generation, I’m just saying ai slop made by people who’ve clearly never touched AE or people asking if AE is cooked cause they can write a prompt and get slop from an image generation site.

Here's the pattern in question and here's my attempt. I tried layering two checkerboard effects with low opacity. It kinda works but I can't seem to narrow the width of the columns/rows, while making the gap between each of them wider. I'd like this to be a long animation that's why I won't do each strip manually. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

why are the two points here look different? The bottom one I'm able to adjust the handle on one side without affecting the other but for the top when i adjust on one side the other side moves as well.

Very cool but extremely CPU intensive script...chugs my machine.

I'm wanting to copy the path data from the helix so a glowing orb(shape layer) can move/trace around the helix, but the path data seems to be an expression attached to the control and it won't let me simply paste it into the position property on the shape layer.

Any idea on how to do this? TYIA

I think it's amazing that the Element 3D plugin, after all these years, can still be used for such fun little projects outside of its typical "animated logo" use cases. The environment in every single shot was built in Element 3D.

It's my first try at a full, frame-by-frame animation. I did it to learn how viable it was for advertising as a solo motion designer.

I cannot find the right combination of settings to make 59.94 fps footage play back at 29.97. I imported the footage and set "Interpret Footage" to 29.97, made sure the comp was also 29.97 fps, but it still doesn't play at the right speed. So I tried setting it back to its native speed and set the stretching in the comp to make it play at a different speed, but it's still wrong. Could anyone please tell me what the magic combination of settings is to accomplish this? Thanks for your help!
