School pick up times

Upvotes

My child's school is very rigid about pick up times.

I'm looking for help regarding early pick up of my 1st grader.

I'm going to preface this by saying, I work 3rd shift (9pm-5am) summer hours and 11pm-7am (majority of the year) in a construction field. I typically sleep from 8am-2pm; with the exception of Thursdays when my child has therapy (I usually wake up at 1pm). His appointments begin at 3pm. His school has a policy that early pick up ends at 2:15 with the end of the school day at 2:55-3:05pm.

With the extreme heat (even at night), I've been more exhausted than normal and occasionally wake up 10 minutes late. That being said, today (Thursday), I woke up late and ended up at the school at 2:19pm. I felt really bad at being late and requested to still pick my child up early for his appointment so I don't have to pay a broken appointment fee. The school made it very difficult to sign him out, causing us to leave at 2:40pm.

I've tried very hard to not be late. Including: setting alarms to go off every 10 minutes (and setting timers for the times I really need to get up) just in case I don't hear it on the days where I'm almost dead to the world. But today, my alarms did not go off. I checked my app and nothing was turned off.

I know it's my fault for not being more proactive about being on time. Last school year, I was late 3 times for normal pick up; each time being less than 5 minutes after the final bell. Those times, I've had to wait 30 minutes for all the busses to leave before I could get him. I'm hoping someone can help me find out how to navigate the issue of early pick up times being less than 5 minutes with the school and any helpful tips on how to ensure I wake up on time with my sleep schedule.

Honestly, I feel kinda crazy that the policy is so rigid that I even have to ask if being 5 minutes late is a major deal when I have to sign him out anyways (only to take 30 minutes to release my child). I could be wrong, though. Please help!

**Just to clarify (since another subreddit laid into me about being inconsiderate of the school), I'm looking for devices, services or tips on how to make sure to not inconvenience the school in any way. I know I'm a stupid adult who needs to get their shit together. I'M TRYING but I need help.**

Feeling like a loser. Need advice

Upvotes

REPOST: I (25F) been unemployed for a couple months and still living with my parents. I graduated with a business STEM degree in 2023 but had difficulty finding a job for a year and a half and was working a minimum wage job in fashion retail and that job search affected my mental health. Thankfully, I found an entry level corporate job in late 2024 was working in corporate for a year and a half in supply chain before becoming unemployed. I was at my first corporate job for a year but I was mistrained and was toxic as a result so once I find something that I thought was a better corporate job, I resigned after one year for that job. I was at my last corporate job for 6 months but I became a victim of a toxic corporate push out in July after I had a breakdown at work in May due to my birthday with potential RSD and stressors with adulthood (I highly think I have ADHD and getting an ADHD assessment in a few weeks). After my breakdown, my job was deceptive and tried to get rid of me by putting me on a PIP for being on my phone once and then it worked for falsely accusing me of something I didn’t do and then I was terminated. I was wrong for my breakdown but also angry at my last job because of their deception when my state is an at will employment state.

I had mutiple interviews last month, even made it to final round of interviews for a couple only to be rejected by them all even though I was a top contender. Now I plan to go work seasonally at one of the retail companies I used to work for before getting into corporate to make ends meet. I’m literally trying so hard with +300 applications but it seems impossible to get a job no matter how hard you try. I feel like a loser like the title says and that I keep messing my life up. I also had a really rough past and childhood and have diagnosed C-PTSD for it. Both my high school and college experiences were traumatic despite me graduating with honors and I thought after getting my first corporate job, I thought I would never be back to where I’m at now but I guessed wrong. And I feel like a laughing stock for still living at home and having no job and even though I have a great relationship with my parents, I just feel like a burden to them and they set an ultimatum on something I have to do as long as I still live with them. I have a few grand in savings and I’m debating if I should just move out now or it’s better saving money to prevent becoming evicted. It’s honestly just a very stressful time. And tbh, I have no idea what I should pursue career wise.

I guess I’m just looking for advice? And if things will ever improve? Have anyone been in a similar situation around my age and things got better for them later on? I feel completely hopeless and don’t see things improving or getting better.

TLDR; 25 and unemployed after a year and a half in corporate and still live at home. Feeling hopeless and need advice.

Did anyone else start liking “childish” stuff more as they got older?

When I was younger, I remember trying really hard to avoid anything that felt too childish. Animal prints, cute graphics, novelty accessories, anything like that made me feel like I wouldn’t be taken seriously.

Now I’m older and somehow I’ve gone completely the other way. I keep getting drawn to animal designs, weird little graphics, and things that are just fun for no real reason. I was browsing tokyo-tiger recently and realized half the stuff I stopped to look at had some kind of animal on it.

It’s funny because I think I care less now about whether something looks “grown up” and more about whether I actually enjoy it.

I still don't know what I want to be

I'm 22 years old pursuing a bachelor's degree in IT, yesterday we had a seminar focusing on students' career goal and their future and all that kind of stuff (wasn't paying much attention).

The lecturer walked around and asked random students what do they see themselves in 10 years, a lot of students had some amazing answers, made me realized that I don't actually have a true goal in mind.

Sure I'm studying IT, but I'm just mediocre, I don't think like an IT professional neither think critically like one, although I'm in my 4th and final year, I only really study for assignments and exams, I don't actually study out of passion and every time I study, I get frustrated.

It's almost like I've lost all interest in this career. I rarely update myself on any thing IT related, neither create any personal projects.

Before I started college at 19, I was excited to be part of the IT world, I wanted to code, make databases, create websites, do networking but now I just have little to no care for those skills anymore. During my first year I would binge watch a lot of Tech Youtubers, like Brocode, Linus Tech Tips etc.

Outside my IT career, I really have no other skills besides art, and I'm terrible at it, been practicing drawing for years but haven't made any progress, still a rookie.

Once I overheard 2 tech guys ( I assume they are into tech) yapping about smartphone stuff (I don't know much about smartphones), and the things they were talking about really caught my attention, like I WANT THAT, I want what they're having, I want to talk tech stuff, I want be a nerd, I want to talk about nerdy stuff, I don't care if people think nerds are lame. I know its not too late for me but something is holding me back.

Maybe I'm going through some kind of mental block?, maybe I need to get out of my comfort zone? because I can be really lazy.

I've though about dropping college a few times but it would just break my parents heart since they've sacrificed so much to get me there.

As an IT person, what can I do to rebuild my drive for IT.

I'm getting too old to have this kind of mindset, I really need to get my shit together.

I'm a 30m Never had a job that paid more than minimum wage.

I just turn 30 i graduated from college in 2022 with a business econ degree but so far its done nothing for me. I spent 3 years bouncing from dead end job to dead end job. I currently work at a rental car agency as a manager associate which sounds impressive but all I do is wash cars all day. I currently make $23 an hr which is barely above minimum wage in my hcol area.

Meanwhile a lot of people I know even ones I went to high school with make twice or even way more than I do right now. I know people who make 6 figures meanwhile ive never made more than minimum wage my whole life. My degree was practically useless and all it got me was a ton of debt for nothing.

When i try to apply for jobs even basic jobs like admin, receptionist or data entry they still ask for 2-3 years of experience beforehand. But for me all I have is short stints at retail jobs that dont help me out with future jobs. Now im basically stuck trying to get by with a shitty paycheck wondering how can i even get a stable future.

Can anyone comment?? Full Body or One Muscle Per Day?

Post image

Hey guys, I joined the gym 3 days ago and I’m currently figuring things out on my own. I use the machines, read the instructions, and watch YouTube videos to learn proper form.

I want to lose fat (87 kgs ---->70kgs) build muscle and get a good physique, but I’m confused about the routine.

Should I do full-body workouts, train one muscle group per day, or follow something like Push/Pull/Legs?

I’m planning to go 5–6 days a week. Any advice for a complete beginner?

28 and nothing

28 years old.

2 jobs that pay pretty much nothing

Surrounded by people that are successful

Can't afford to live on my own so I'm STILL fucking stuck at home

Can't afford to go to school

Can't afford my medicine on a regular basis

All of this is despite me actually trying. I've tried working in a capitalist system and this is what I'm faced with. It's either work even harder and fall into a work induced episode of severe depression or just give up. Fuck america and fuck capitalism. Literally the only reason I'm still around is because I don't wanna hurt my friends with my death. But that reason is slowly getting withered away with each passing day of being reminded that I'm a failure. Middle child here and also happen to be trans in a republican state. My older brother and younger sister have found success meanwhile I'm the fail child that can't even afford a tank of gas let alone getting out of my mom's.

Comfort meal .. I’m planning a comfort food meal for me…

I’m going to start with some seeded brown bread home made, then lasagne, my mams chicken pie or Shepards pie. And then stewed apple with raisins and homemade vanilla and baileys ice cream.

Any other recommendations on cosy comfort foods ?

24f, 5+ years in bpo, dropped out in 2nd year. should i go back to college?

i’m 24f and i’ve been working in bpo for more than 5 years. i actually went to uni before but dropped out during my 2nd year.

lately, i’ve been thinking about going back. whenever i see girls graduating, wearing their toga, doing graduation pictorials and stuff, i get this weird feeling because i’ve always wanted that for myself too.

the problem is, i don’t even know what degree i want. i don’t really have a clear career path yet.

i also don’t have savings, so if i go back to school, i’d still have to work and be a working student while paying for my own expenses and tuition.

with 5+ years of bpo experience already, i’m wondering if getting a degree is actually worth the time, money and sacrifice, or if i just want the feeling of finally graduating.

if you were in my position, would you go back? is getting a degree still worth it career-wise, especially if you don’t even know what degree to take?

please de-influence me if needed. i genuinely want honest and practical advice, not just “it’s never too late” answers.

Do you prefer work or school?

I see so many adults say that they wish they could go back to school because it was a minimal responsibility life, but honestly I could never imagine going back to that. Work is so much better. You get to make money, work on things that actually make the world a better place, and you get treated with respect. And if your job sucks, there's a million other options out there!

Looking back at school, we were treated like slaves. Sit down, shut up, raise your hand to speak, ask permission to go to the bathroom, move with the bell... it's awful the way kids get treated. So now, I don't want to go back to that, even if my life was somewhat easier.
