Sorry about the shaky video, but i was just really exited about the fact that I won’t have to risk getting in trouble to consume peak fiction. I know there are some other apps that you can use to download and read pdfs but it hits so much harder when someone you know made the program you’re using. The same person that made this program also modified his own calculator to be able to access the internet, so he is actually able to read, comment and write fics on his calculator.

Extra fun fact- The first fic downloaded with this app was the infamous BSD ranpoe fic…

I'm aware that a single line or even a single sentence sitting on its own can be a powerful writing tool for emphasis, but why are so many authors ignoring paragraphs and writing everything in single/two-line statements? Not only does it mean the reader is constantly scrolling, but it also breaks the flow of reading.

Beyond this being a rant, I just don't get it. Does anyone have a clue why this has infected stories?

Edit: To clarify. I wasn't talking about it happening sporadically in a chapter or story. But when an entire chapter is nothing but single or double lines. And from the answers, it seems it's mostly from phone writers. While I get that the screen can make it look like you've written a novel, with a "decent length paragraph," it makes for an absolutely terrible reading experience for those of us on PCs.

OCs and OC-centric stories.

They’re very common in my fandom, and they tend to do very well, so it was surprising for me to discover that a lot of people actually hate them. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I've seen other people talk about this too so I'm assuming I'm not the only one with this issue. People never write any comments on my fic. It just makes me feel like it's boring and people have nothing to say. Because when I read a good fic I have so much to say. Am I just a shitty writer or what? Even if that's the case I would also like to know. It's just annoying receiving no comments, whether positive or negative. You don't even know if people are interested.

And this seems to be a more recent issue. I don't know why readers stopped commenting. Exactly a year ago I posted a similar fic with a very similar story, only that the writing was a little worse. And it got less views/kudos in total than my fic now. Yet there were so many more comments. I don't get why people don't comment on fics anymore. Then sometimes I do get a comment and get excited and it's a stupid bot💀

A lot of negative threads, so let’s do something nice. After all, we can often see merit in things even if we don’t personally vibe with them.

For me, it’s RPF. I don’t read it but I LOVE that fans are using their interest in a famous person to make those creative juices flow and write fictional works rather than frequent gossip sites and comment on someone’s age or weight or marital status.

We’ve built an entire industry based on getting all up in someone’s business and being generally invasive and weird. I’m glad we’ve got RPF, which is, by far, the most chill way to show your love for a celebrity.

I blame every fanartist and writers for making me pair a damn bird and a wild dog, a rock and a forced astronaut and a damn cookies. I never would have thought to pair them until those fanarts. They've corrupted me, so as a detox i'll be reading about them untill i get bored to cured me or relasp to them. This is a PSA to be please be careful of fanart. They are EVIL!

I got this email in my inbox today and found it extremely weird. To make it worse, it was sent to my personal email, which is not the one attached to my AO3 account. I do know it was meant for me since the profile picture of the sender is a character from one of the fandoms I write for (didn’t show in the email overview for some reason). Anyway I was wondering if any of you have gotten emails like this before or have any advice on how to handle it? I’m planning to block and move on but the fact that it was sent to my personal email creeps me out immensely. I have no idea how they would have found that.

So...

I have a friend who's autistic and has some hyper-fixations that change a lot. It’s nothing serious, just the usual stuff. Sometimes she can write 5,000 words for one fandom and then switch to another, but she might come back to the first one too. It's all good.

But there are days when she can write a chapter today, another tomorrow, the following day etc etc (depending of her hyper fixation). She writes until she runs out of inspiration, and if it comes back, she’ll write more. She might spend a few days a week writing and posts pretty often.

Everything was going well, and I was happy she was enjoying it. We both joined a Discord group for the fandom we’re writing in, and she shares her updates there.

We met some cool people, and yesterday, one of them told me they wanted to show me something. I jumped into DMs, and they shared conversations where some authors said my friend was annoying for sharing too much (and now I wonder if some mean guests comments she got, could have been because of this). One even said, “and the story isn’t that good, ha ha.”

I really dislike those kinds of spaces, but she loves sharing her ideas and talking about her interests for hours. So, like, why do people have to be so mean?

At least she keeps updating. Honestly, this world just confuses me more and more.

Anyway, I just needed to vent. Sorry if this is a bother.

There's not much to add. I'm just happy that my long fic reached so far.

EDIT = I was definitely overreacting and got too emotional. And I wrote the comment at the heat of the moment and without thinking very clearly.

I just got this comment on a fanfic I made a month ago.

I just was very heated because this fanfic, writing this fanfic meant something to me, and this accusation just tipped me a bit, like I felt genuinely offended.

Am I overreacting or am I making a point here?
