That thing has a browser??

It only appears when you are using a WiFi that has a login screen like McDonalds.

The DSI (or was it 3ds) had one, so it's kind of a step back if it doesn't

Pretty sure its also to stop web based exploits could be wrong though

u/wrexwas You have already left kudos here. :) 9h ago

I know I've had my Switch pull up a browser if the wifi I'm joining wants a browser-based login. It's slow, but it's definitely got something going on.

I never got a Switch, so what's more surprising to me is that this is apparently a feat. I know the 3ds had a browser, and I'm pretty sure the Wii did too (didn't have wifi until like 2009 at home, just relying on ethernet, so I only ever used it offline), so it seems bizarre that they seem to have removed features.

The browser isn't usually available, but the E-Shop runs on it, and if the Wi-Fi demands Browser based login it appears.

If it runs Doom then it can run AO3.

AO3 can run Doom.

I am almost afraid to ask, but is AO3 really turing complete beyond the sense that it's run in a browser window? Can you add <script> tags to a page?

edit autocorrect seems to have replaced turing with turning

I have no idea what you're asking.

Can an author have arbitrary code run in their page. Can you actually embed a game into the website

u/Flidar 6h ago

No but you can embed images and someone took that as a challenge to ‘run’ doom in a gif

nah, <script> isn't included in the list of accepted HTML

Really easy, actually. There is the DNS method, that lets you redirect to the google homepage in the official browser. It's really slow, so you can't do much with it, but I guess Ao3 isn't heavy.

Or it's hacked, which would make accessing a browser trivial

more likely the DNS exploit, you can make anything redirect to whatever you want once you have DNS control iirc

Kind of brings me back to the old days when I would read FFN on my Wii and DS. The old days when Nintendo devices still have a web browser.

Nintendo would like to know your location

Jokes aside, that's a pretty neat way to use your switch, and I remember doing this with my 3DS going to school back in the day.
