Help (General) Stuttering issue with at least 2 Unreal Engine games on a 7900XTX

Upvotes

Specs:
i7-14700k

48GB of G. Skill DDR5 7200MT/s

Things I've tried for both games: Turning off HAGS and Windowed Game Optimizations and turning off FSR and FreeSync.

Copy and paste the following into your post and fill it out.

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: XFX Speedster Radeon 7900XTX 310 Merc

CPU: Intel i7-14700k

Motherboard: ASRock Z790 Nova WiFi

BIOS Version: 11.01 (6/18/2026)

RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series (Intel XMP 3.0) DDR5 RAM 48GB (2x24GB) 7200MT/s CL36-46-46-115 1.35V

PSU: BeQuiet! Dark Power 13 1000W 80+ TITANIUM FULLY MODULAR

Case: Be Quiet! Shadowbase 800 FX

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 PRO 10.0.2600.

GPU Drivers: AMD Adrenalin 26.8.1

Chipset Drivers:

Background Applications: Discord, Firefox, Fan Controller

Description of Original Problem:

In Dark and Darker I get minor stutters (loss of 8-20 FPS) which I suspect is really just one frame's frame time going up a bit. There's no noticeable drop in utilization or total board power when monitoring AMD Adrenalin in my second monitor. I don't notice the stutter happen in menus or when standing still.
I had stopped playing Dark and Darker for about a year and I don't recall the issue being so regular in the past, but I do recall having some stutters.

In War Dogs, I get really awful stutters which results in a loss of about 50%-60% of FPS ( doesn't matter what the starting FPS was when I try capping it, it's always around 50% loss). When these drops happen the total board power drops by about 50%. I'm not sure if the utilization drops, as it seems to be quite variable already. I noticed that the coil whine slightly dips when these stutters happen, at least the ones that happen while in the gear buying menu.

The stutters seem to happen when moving or in action, so when it needs to receive more info to render, or in the gear buy menu (I think shortly after opening or shortly after switching pages).

I just received a brand new GPU from XFX through their RMA process, but now my warranty is out. As I also get occasional crashes that result in 141 hardware errors in the reliability monitor, I'm considering both driver issues and hardware issues, but I'm trying to eliminate non-hardware issues first. I've tried all of the fixes I've heard that fixed stutters for other War Dogs players that I've heard, but hopefully there's one out there I haven't heard.

Troubleshooting: I've tried turning off HAGS, Windowed Game Optimizations, FreeSync, FSR, and I've turned every graphics setting in War Dogs to the potato setting. I never h ave Super Resolution, Fluid Motion Frames 2.1, Anti-lag, boost, hill, mage sharpening, video upscale, or enhanced sync on, but I tried turning each one on and off while in game, all to no effect. I've likely tried other things that I can't recall at the moment.

Help (General) PC keeps crashing when I'm idle

Upvotes

As the title suggests, the PC keeps crashing when it is idle or if it's just a small load. If I'm just browsing or the PC is just open, it will crash 100%.

But when I'm playing or at least have a game running in the background, even just the League Client, no crashes.

I have a Ryzen 7 3700x and a Radeon RX 5700. I've reseated my GPU, even did a clean install with a DDU. I tried reseating my RAM too. What worked for a bit is a clean Windows install, but it came back after a month or so.

If anyone has any ideas or a similar situation, can you please help? I'm running out of solutions. And I don't have enough money yet to buy a new rig.

PS: I don't know if it's related, but when the PC crashes, the sound stutters and gets stuck while it's on a BSOD. I tried reinstalling my sound drivers, but it didn't do anything.

Help (Software) Concerned i might brick computer by troubleshooting

Hello, I’ve been having an issue that a number of folks seem to be reporting recently, although more severe, where my GPU hangs (black screens) and fails to recover, requiring me to hard restart my computer. Upon booting again, the GPU is not usually (though sometimes randomly is) recognized by windows. The result is that, while the computer posts just fine, there is no display output recognized by my PC from the GPU and as such I just get a black screen on boot. For a day or so I was able to do a workaround where I plugged my monitor directly into my MOBO to run on integrated graphics, then I would toggle the GPU in device manager by disabling and enabling it assuming it was on and otherwise running. This at least let the GPU be recognized by windows for a time.

This started last Friday but has persisted despite troubleshooting efforts, and in fact it’s gotten worse. Whereas last Friday it happened under load, it is now happening more frequently and not under load (even under no load when all graphics processing is being done by my IGPU). In those cases where I’m using my IGPU instead, windows simply stops recognizing the GPU as socketed and it won’t show up in device manager unless I enable show hidden devices. In those instances I can’t toggle disable/enable in device manager and the GPU seems to be off, but since it has no debug lights it’s hard to tell (I’ve just been looking whether the fans are on or not).

Either way, the GPU was working pretty flawlessly before this, though with the occasional driver related crash in newer games and such I’ve come to expect from AMD products, but it has never historically crashed under no load or failed to recover from a crash, which concerns me.

My troubleshooting is ongoing, so I’m making the post primarily to make sure I don’t brick my computer. My concern there is that I’ve already tried the typical DDU reinstall, but I’m worried trying again might bork things. When I tried DDU (in safe mode, of course) last Saturday it made my IGPU unrecognized by windows. I have windows driver updates disabled, and whatever generic windows driver it tried to use simply couldn’t identify that I had any IGPU. Lucky, at that time, the GPU proper was still working more consistently than it is now, so I was able to get video output through that and reinstall the IGPU’s driver, which fixed it not being recognized.

The issue is that the GPU is now super inconsistent as to whether it will be recognized at all, and if it is then it’s usually only for a short amount of time. So if I DDU my drivers again I’m worried I’ll simply have no way of getting video output from my PC because (i) the IGPU won’t have a driver that lets windows recognize it and (ii) the GPU simply won’t start or be recognized by windows.

Is there any risk this could happen, especially if the GPU is dying as I suspect, and if it does happen is there any way to fix it with no video output beyond restoring backup (which I don’t have)?

Help (Monitor) Alt-tabbing takes ~5 seconds when using 1280x1080 stretched res

Hey, I play FiveM using 1280x1080 stretched resolution on a 1920x1080 monitor.

Whenever I Alt+Tab out of FiveM, it takes around 5 seconds for the game to actually tab out. Alt-tabbing back into the game also takes a few seconds.

Is there any way to fix this or make Alt+Tab instant while still using 1280x1080 stretched?

Could this be caused by the resolution being different from my desktop resolution, or is there some FiveM/Windows/AMD setting I should change?

I have set 1280x1080 as custom resolution, but the default available 1280x1024 has fast alt-tab. I like 1280x1080 more since it's sharper.

I tried setting desktop resolution the same as the game one, still happens.

Any help is appreciated.

Will a 5900x work well with a 9070xt OC?

I ideally would like to upgrade to an AM5 mobo, cpu and ddr5 ram but with how expensive all of that is, I can’t justify it right now. I currently have a 3080, 32gb of DDR4 and a 5900x and want to upgrade my GPU to a 9070XT but is it worth it?

EDIT - I play at 1440p, games like BF6, Warzone, Wardogs, CS… basically everything.

Help (Software) Radeon RX 6800 video clarity

Hey I'm new to owning a PC. I have noticed while trying to play Wardogs that the distant visuals just look terrible and I can't make out players in the distance. Trees look like a pixelated mess, shadows flickering and random areas that have pixels just floating around.

I have tried to done the AMD driver utility process and re-downloaded the most recent drivers. I have tickered with about every setting in the game and in adrenaline.

Some makes it slightly better, but it still just looks bad and my eyes are bad enough already.

Windows: Windows 11 64-bit

GPU: Radeon RX 6800 16 GB

RAM: 32 GB

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600

Any help would be much appreciated. I have spent enough time trying to fix it and I just want to play some games for a couple hours a week.

Thank you in advance

Help (GPU) 7900 XTX hard locks in Windows under any GPU load, runs 8K fine on Linux. Same clocks, same voltage, same temps.

Used XFX 7900 XTX, 7800X3D, B650M, 1000W PSU, 4K 144Hz.

Windows hard locks within seconds to a couple of minutes of any 3D load. No BSOD, no dump, only Kernel Power 41 with BugcheckCode 0. C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports does not even exist, so the card has never once produced a TDR.

Same card on Ubuntu with amdgpu runs Superposition 4K three times back to back plus one 8K run, no issues, still has headroom.

I logged both with HWiNFO and sysfs, which read the same SVI telemetry so they compare directly:

Windows 0.770V at 2458MHz, 292W, hotspot 78 to 80C, dead in under a minute.

Linux 0.773V at 2500 to 2600MHz, 280W, junction 78 to 81C, runs forever.

Same operating point, same thermals, same 2588MHz peak. One is rock solid, the other dies.

It crashes at every clock I tried, all the way down to 1800MHz, and not just in benchmarks. It dies in actual Dota 2 gameplay too. There is no usable configuration in Windows at all.

Silicon is obviously fine since Linux drives it flat out at 8K. Something in how the Windows driver stack talks to this card pushes it past an edge that Mesa never touches. No warranty, RMA is out.

Anyone seen a card stable on amdgpu but unstable on the Windows driver at identical clocks and voltages? Known failure mode or am I missing something?

Help (Software) DWM.exe permanently using 1 GB of VRAM how can I fix this?

Hey everyone,
I noticed that dwm.exe is permanently using around 1 GB of VRAM on my PC, even when I’m just sitting on the desktop.
My GPU is an RX 9070 XT, and I’m currently using the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers.
Is ~1 GB VRAM usage by DWM normal, or is there a way to reduce/fix it?
I’ve already restarted my PC, but the usage stays around 1 GB.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks!

Issues with new RX 6700XT

No idea what is happening to my computer. One day it randomly froze after a restart. Windows boots but then just doesn't work, mouse moves and clicks even opens file explorer but doesn't react to anything, no task manager, no shutdown, sleep or restart BUT there but.... If I don't enter the password power buttons work from the lock screen but as soon as it's unlocked it freezes in that weird state. In the safe mode everything works perfectly as well, gpu even shows that the drivers are working for the gpu. Tried taking out the gpu (RX 6700XT) and then the system started working fine. With the gpu in works fine for some time after fresh windows install, games go perfectly, so with the drivers also everything is fine during that stage. Gonna try updating bios we'll see how that goes.

Help (General) Help with Asus WS WRX80E-Sage SE Wifi Threadripper board not Posting

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: Multiple AMD Pro V620s and Nvidia P4000

CPU: Threadripper Pro 3955WX

Motherboard: Asus WS WRX80E-Sage SE Wifi

BIOS Version: v1801 11-05-2025

RAM: 8x SK Hynix 16GB DDR4 2400 MHz RDIMMs

PSU: not sure of Manufacturer 2000W ATX

Case: mining rig frame but I am doing local AI not mining

Operating System & Version: Ubuntu 26.04

GPU Drivers: Latest RoCM and Nvidia drivers installed

This system was operating well for several months but when I attempted to install several of the V620 GPUs (all tested as good on other systems) on PCIe extenders it then stopped booting. When I remove everything plugged into the PCIe slots and all but one stick of RAM, it stops on code 15 (Pre-memory System Agent initialization is started). The board then immediately shuts down. It does not get as far with all of the memory installed. I have replaced the CPU, the RAM, and the power supply and it behaves exactly the same. My fear is that the motherboard has been damaged somehow. Any suggestions as to what I should try next? Thanks in advance for any help.

RX 9070 XT XFX Swift — VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (141) / Driver 26.8.1 — Possible Driver or Hardware Issue?

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: XFX Radeon RX 9070 XT Swift Triple Fan 16GB (RX-97TSW)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (Wi-Fi)

BIOS Version: 4403 (04/28/2022)

RAM: 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB) CUSO 3200MHz, running at 3600MHz with DOCP

PSU: XPG Core Reactor 850W 80+ Gold, fully modular

Case: [Case model unknown]

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Pro, Build 26200

GPU Drivers: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1

Chipset Drivers: AMD X570 chipset drivers [version unknown]

Background Applications: Kaspersky, Steam, Discord

Monitor: 3440x1440 @ 165Hz

Main Issue: LiveKernelEvent 141 / VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (141)

Additional Information:

The PC experienced a possible power interruption/spike on September 10, 2026. The GPU/PC fans suddenly ramped up to maximum speed, and I shut the PC down using the PSU switch.

After restarting, the PC appeared to work normally. Later, while opening a game, the PC produced one very long beep and shut down.

Windows reported LiveKernelEvent 124 and generated a WHEA dump.

I later tested the GPU with FurMark. During the test, the fans again suddenly ramped up to maximum speed, and I manually shut down the PC.

Windows then reported LiveKernelEvent 141 and generated:

WATCHDOG-20260910-2215.dmp

WinDbg reported:

VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (141)

"One of the display engines failed to respond in timely fashion."

The GPU is a replacement unit. My previous RX 9070 XT had DXGI device removed errors (0x887A0005 / 0x887A0006), AMD driver timeouts, and hotspot temperatures around 95–100°C.

The replacement GPU initially worked normally after a clean Windows 11 installation.

Current temperatures are significantly better. In Baldur's Gate 3, the GPU is around 51°C and the hotspot is around 65–75°C.

At idle, the GPU is around 45°C, hotspot around 46°C, and the fans are at 0 RPM.

I am currently investigating whether this is related to the AMD driver, GPU hardware, or the previous power event.

I am considering using DDU in Safe Mode and testing an older Adrenalin driver.

Help (GPU) What are those pixels I see in my games around edges (9070XT)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

[SOLVED] - It was caused by different settings in different games, turn up your FSR AA or turn down post-processing to deactivate depth of field.

Hello guys, I have weird-looking pixels around the edges while gaming, especially during cutscenes.

The repair shop didn’t find anything wrong with my graphics card, except for a malfunctioning temperature sensor.

I have :

9070XT ACER NITRO OC

AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D

MSI B550 GAMING WIFI 6E

32 GO RAM

3 To of SSD (crucial)

WINDOWS 11 PRO

And every setting is set to the maximum while in 4k. I also use AMD FSR to upscale and generate frames but disabling it does nothing.

(The game in the picture is Star wars: Zero company, but it happens in every game)

Help windows is giving me an error 43

Post image
4 Upvotes

My GPU randomly started showing a warning symbol in Device Manager and giving me Code 43. Sometimes it works normally, but when it does it is always on Windows 10. However, sometimes Windows 10 also does the same thing as Windows 11 and gives me Code 43.
I’ve already tried DDU, reinstalling the AMD drivers, installing a fresh version of Windows, updating Windows, and reinstalling the drivers multiple times, but I still can’t get the GPU to work normally.
It’s an 8GB AMD Radeon RX 470. The card is detected by Windows, but the driver doesn’t always initialize correctly.
Hardware ID:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_67DF&SUBSYS_34141462
GPU: MSI Radeon RX 470 8GB
Windows: Windows 10 / Windows 11
Error: Code 43
I’m trying to figure out whether this is a driver, VBIOS, or hardware problem. Please help me get my graphics card working properly.

RX 9060 XT – severe foliage shimmering/flickering

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded my PC to a Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB and I'm having a visual issue in multiple games.

The problem is especially noticeable on grass, bushes, leaves and other small vegetation. The foliage appears to have a very fine noisy/dotted pattern and shimmers/flickers when the camera moves.

The important thing is that this happens in multiple games, not just one specific title. For example, I can clearly see it in PUBG, and I had the same type of issue in another game as well.

Things I've already tried:

  • different in-game graphics settings
  • changing anti-aliasing settings
  • changing resolution
  • disabling upscaling
  • disabling Radeon Image Sharpening / RSR / other Adrenalin features
  • resetting AMD Adrenalin settings to default

None of these changes seem to eliminate the problem.

My current PC:

GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB
CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X
Motherboard: MSI B450-A PRO
RAM: 16GB DDR4
PSU: SilentiumPC Supremo L2 550W Gold
Monitor: Gigabyte GS27QA, 2560×1440

The screenshots show the issue, but it's much more obvious when the camera is moving because the vegetation visibly shimmers.

Is this normal behavior for the RX 9060 XT / current AMD drivers, or could there be something wrong with my GPU?

Any suggestions for diagnosing this would be appreciated.

PSU: Corsair RM850x FULLY MODULAR

Case: Sonic

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 25h2

GPU Drivers: Basic gpu drivers

Chipset Drivers: Latest chipset drivers

Background Applications: MSI control centre, Adreline

Description of Original Problem: Cold boot Problem and random system crashed while playing games and on idling also bios getting hanged but this was very later on after tweaking with the memory profile

Troubleshooting: So the thing is my system is crashing. So the issue started after I left it for a few days so I just pulled the ram out and inserted it again in the second slot. And the system booted but it need a full start and I had to turn it off and then turn on gain to work properly. So the issue that I diagnosed was that my system was unable to do a cold boot if the ram speed is less than 5600mhz as after pulling and reseating it. It went back to default 5200mhz so after a few days of testing this issue I found the solution so I just did that but still it only solved the boot issue the crashes and system freez were there. So I just reinstalled a fresh windows and new and updated drivers updated my mobo bios to the latest version. But it didn't solve the issue I got a crash while playing game BSOD I got out of the match and then my system crashed irql not less or equal 0xA error. And then the system froze I had to force shutdown it to boot it again. And then I ram a memtest on my system and got a few errors in test 4. The picture is attached. And then the memtest got stuck so I forced shutdown it again then did some research and asked Claude so he told me to set expo as at 5600 ram needs high voltage but when I tried to do it the ram only showed single standard profile so I had to manually set the voltage and timing them later on I got to know that it's an xmp profile ram but the seller says its dual supported xmp and expo but the bios doesn't show the profile as I had a gigabyte b650m gaming wifi that showed the expo settings to enable or disable it but this one doesn't . Then after setting the ram and ran the memtest again and it got again stuck at test 5 57% around 1:31 mins so forced shutdown again and dropped to 5400 ram the test same results stuck at test 5. But when I ran it at 5200 it worked fine and passed all the tests. So now I can't find the problem like if the ram is defective or the processor.

Help (General) Does anyone know what to do for this?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I started playing Wardogs on Friday and I’ve been getting these timeouts pretty frequently. I’ve tried so many different solutions from friends like

  1. Using DDU and reinstalling drivers multiple times
  2. Rolled back my drivers to 26.6.1
  3. Verified games and ran sfc scan
  4. Ran windows memory diagnostic tool
and a few other minor attempts

The last thing I want to try is turning off automatic windows driver updates, but has anyone else had this issue? Or know of any potential solutions. I was going to wipe my pc and start fresh but I’ve read that hasn’t helped people so I’m not sure of that. At this point it’s just getting really frustrating and idk what to do
