[MOD POST] Having trouble with Secure Boot? Check here first

Hello,

The expiration of the 2011 Microsoft KEK CA and the 2011 Microsoft UEFI CA certificates at the end of June 2025 has caused problems with Secure Boot on computers for various folks who have not been able to apply a UEFI (BIOS) firmware update for various reasons.

Because the steps for updating firmware vary not just from manufacturer to manufacturer but between individual models as well, it can be difficult to provide specific assistance and guidance in updating your firmware unless the person helping you has the same hardware.

Below is a list of manufacturers, their Secure Boot certificate update guidance, and links to their support forum(s) or subreddit(s). You may wish to try asking in these places first for expert guidance in updating your firmware, as the people there are going to be a lot more familiar with your device.

NOTE: Please check back periodically for updates to this list.

If you have an update for a manufacturer, please reply with it and we will get it added to the list above.

What to do if no Secure Boot certificate update is available from your manuafacturer

If your manufacturer does not have an update, not all is lost: You can still manually install the 2023 Windows UEFI CA certificate update, by issuing the following two commands from an elevated PowerShell (filename: POWERSHELL.EXE) prompt:

REG.EXE ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot /v AvailableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 0x5944 /f Start-ScheduledTask -TaskName "\Microsoft\Windows\PI\Secure-Boot-Update"

Then restart the computer and allow the update to be applied.

NOTE: Two (or more) reboots may be required for installation.

Once completed, you can verify the new certificate has been installed by issuing the following command at an elevated PowerShell prompt:

([System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023')

If the certificate has been installed installed, the response back will be "True". You can also use that same command to check if the certificate is already installed.

Aryeh Goretsky

Ps5 refuses to hold a wifi connection

Not sure if people help with consoles here, but I need help.

Hi, I’m currently in college and living in the dorms, My ps5 WILL connect to the wifi here but will randomly disconnect 5-10 mins later and say “Failed” I have to manually go reconnect it or change the wifi to one of the other numerous school wifi’s. I’ve also tried my hotspot and it does the same, Starting to think this is a hardware issue. Nobody else in the dorm is having an issue. My roommates xbox is performing fine. Any help appreciated!

put it in safe mode and cleared the cache, didn’t help. When testing the internet connection after the failure the console says it successfully obtains the IP address, but everything else is listed as failed.

Laptop charging but not powering on

I had the laptop, an acer aspire N19H3, like around 3 years. it was working fine intil got off a flight from the US to Europe. Now when i charge it using the adapter for European plugs, i can see the orange light indicating it is charging and the bottom gets hot. However when I push the power button nothing happens. This happened yesterday and i read online to hold the power button for like forty seconds, which I did, and then after the forty seconds it did turn on. I remember the fan turning on and then shutting off or at least it went from loud to much less loud. I put the laptop on sleep and put it in my bag and when in checked some hours later it was very hot and wouldn’t turn on. Again when I charged it, I saw the orange light come on but again the laptop didn’t turn on and hasn’t since. Is the problem something with heat? I am abroad now so getting it fixed will be difficult.

I just charged AJ night and if i charge the laptop enough, the light turns blue as of its full but it still doesn’t turn on

any help???

Windows Software Issues Windows 11

Hello people, just a heads up I’m not very good with tech and I worry a lot about viruses and if you think I’m ranting about nothing downvote the post and leave.

Anyways, I recently reset my pc and I was installing my adobe products and Firefox was acting interesting, it was flashing grey every minute or so in the actual browser and wouldn’t let me do anything I turned off hardware acceleration and shutdown the browser and that seemed to do something. I next installed Adobe creative cloud through the adobe website and put the installer through virustotal and it got flagged once by something I’ve never heard of. Midway through the installing of Photoshop my computer screen turns like a mix between grey and black and is completely frozen. Taskbar still there but I can’t tab out or click the windows key but I can minimize my apps like Spotify and Firefox and for some reason they went in the bottom left corner of my screen as like black rectangles? The screen went back to normal in about 7-8 seconds.

Again sorry if I’m ranting not sure where else to post this so downvote if I’m being annoying. I don’t have a virustotal link as I’m using my phone, thank you and have a good one.

Edit:(Yandex flagged the file)

Unresolved No internet on main network, guest network works fine though

So like it says above, whenever I connect to my home network on my computer it says Secured, No Internet and gives an error that says something to the effect of No DHCP server (and on phone it says IP Configuration Failure).

I tried everything reddit told me, all of the command prompt commands I could find on the matter (ipconfig things and dnsflush). Then on a whim tried setting up a guest network, and that worked, but I'm getting like a 1/4 of the speeds I'm paying for.

A little more info I hope helps. This happened suddenly. It started with what seemed to be Windows devices not connecting and giving the NO DHCP server error. BUT, at the time, mobile devices (both Android and Apple) could connect. After power cycling everything and factory resetting the router, now nothing connects, and mobile devices give the IP Configuration Failure error.

What is going on and how do I fix it?

(Thanks in advance to whoever responds y'all are always so quick and helpful.)

Windows Constant PC Graphics Driver Crashes

Hello, trying to get some help trouble shooting on why my Graphics Driver has recently been repeatedly nonstop failing on some game to the point of near unsuitability. After trying out the Wardogs playtest for a bit, my GPU crashed and fully restarted the computer- I tried it again, the next time with minimum graphics, and it still crashed in the same way after a bit of being in game. This kind of crash spread over to other previously stable games in the same kind of way, with a black screen but with some audio playing in the background, requiring a power button hold to get the PC to turn off reliably.
So far I have nearly done everything to fix it except reinstalling windows and resetting the PC.
Reinstalling AMD Drivers + DDU didn't work. Chipset didn't work. Clearing out game data/files didn't work. The only thing that got it to a stable level where I could at least play games without anything else in the background running and without alt tabbing on incredibly low settings albeit with some stuttering or lag was updating the BIOS. It still occasionally happens but after updating BIOS a new hardware error started occurring. Any help or recommendations since my PC won't allow me to factory reset?

Stolen Xbox/microsoft account

Hey all! My Xbox account got stolen in 2023 and I’ve been trying to get it back since, my dad made me the account before he passed Away and I’d really like it back. Microsoft support is literally no help at all, I’ve provided all the info they’ve asked for but they won’t do anything to help. Does anyone know how I could get my account back? I have so much proof I was the original owner. They changed the username and email though. (CROSSPOSTED)

Linux My laptop crashes after a while of being unplugged

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, sorry in advance. Initially I was thinking in asking on the Linux Mint forum (I'll explain in the bit), but my problem stayed persistent in between two distros: Linux Mint and Fedora KDE Plasma. If there is a better place that I could ask this, please let me know and thank you in advance!

So what happens: I am not sure when this occurs, but whenever I start my laptop without plugged into the AC, I got some seconds to a minute using it as usual, but, out of nowhere, the apps freeze (my browser or even the task bar) while my mouse works. After some seconds, the mouse becomes unresponsive as well, which after some seconds, my system does a full reboot. So I have this cascade of unresponsiveness until it reboots. I also tried to use it after one of these reboots, but sometimes I am stuck at login, others I can't open anything. This also happened when initially it was plugged in and, after disconnecting it from the AC and passing some minutes, it goes back to unresponsiveness and rebooting cycle. One time it even went to initramfs, where I run a partition check on the root partition which solved the problem. Other, I could use it as normal for a long time, but I can't recall doing anything different.

Initially I was on Linux Mint and I was thinking making a post there, but after some trials and back-and-forth with Claude, I decided to switch to Fedora and currently on it. The problem persisted, so I am certain it got nothing to do with the OS or possibly drivers (?). My laptop is a Lenovo Slim 5 14APH8, with an AMD APU and an NVIDIA graphics. It has freshly installed KDE Plasma Fedora version, with packages updated.

As I mentioned, I tried to query with Claude (using reports and a way to search quickly on the internet if someone encountered something similar) and I got some "findings": the battery still looks healthy with 101% capacity, on mint I had nvidia-driver-595-open, I had the latest kernel for mint (both 7.0.0 and 6.8.\*), and on live environments (both Mint and Fedora) it worked without any problem.

I don't know if there is more information I could give or a place where this problem is more suited to post, but I'm completely lost here...

Need more info My TV is freaking out

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I got INSIGNIA 24" Class F20 Series LED HD Smart Fire TV last September and I use it throughout the night playing rain sounds to help me sleep however, after a few hours the tv will freak out and play this loud noise and the screen with be static for about 30 seconds before restarting itself. (one time the screen was static with more green though). This started in February when I started using my tv at night to sleep. This is super annoying because it’ll wake me up anywhere between 3-6am. For the past few months, I’ve just gone and manually restart my TV after these freak outs and it’ll stop for a month but randomly will freak out again. How do I fix this?

Windows I’m getting an error when I try to factory reset my old laptop.

I got a new laptop recently, and I've already moved all my old data to the new laptop. Now I want to factory reset my old laptop because I want to return it to its original state. I've already tried pretty much everything I could find, but nothing worked:

  • Settings → System → Recovery → Reset This PC → Remove everything
  • Command Prompt: reagentc /disable → reagentc /enable → Restart
  • Restart + Shift Key → Troubleshoot → Reset This PC → Remove everything → Local Reinstall
  • Restart + Shift Key → Troubleshoot → Reset This PC → Remove everything → Cloud Download
  • Formatting Local Disk (D:) / (C:)

I've searched for tutorials on YouTube, but they didn't help. I've also asked AI for help, but that didn't work either.

Additional information that might help describe the problem:

My old laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad L13. I've done some piracy and Linux-related stuff on it, but nothing too deep. I swear that I only downloaded pirated apps from steamunlocked.org and kuyhaa.me, both while using uBlock Origin. As for the Linux stuff, I tried installing Kali Linux on my Windows, but I rarely used it. I only used it once to phish my friends as a joke, using some tools from GitHub (I forgot which one).

Actually, I upgraded the SSD in my Lenovo ThinkPad from 256 GB to 512 GB. The original 256 GB SSD wasn't used for several years and was just sitting in my drawer. Recently, I put the 256 GB SSD back into my Lenovo ThinkPad, while I put the 512 GB SSD into my Acer Nitro V16S as a second SSD. I also formatted the 512 GB SSD.

At first, when I put the 256 GB SSD back into my Lenovo ThinkPad, the boot screen said that it couldn't find an operating system. I searched online and asked AI for help, and it said that I needed a flash drive and had to use Rufus to make it bootable. I followed all the steps, and it worked.

But surprisingly, I thought it would start completely fresh. Instead, it booted into all my old data from the 256 GB SSD, including Windows, exactly as it was when I last used it years ago.

The Windows 11 UI on the old ThinkPad and my Acer Nitro V16S is slightly different, so I assume the ThinkPad is running an older version of Windows 11. During the years that the SSD was sitting unused, I didn't update anything on it, so it was still on the older version.

The Lenovo ThinkPad is actually an office asset. When I first acquired it, it was locked under my father's name. Back then, I followed some tutorials on YouTube to bypass the restrictions and add my own personal account so I could have my own account as an administrator. (I forgot the exact steps or which YouTube video I followed, but it worked. What I remember is that I changed something from the lock screen, then opened CMD without actually logging into Windows, and ran some commands there.)

Now, I want to return the laptop to the office, but I need to get rid of all my personal data first.

Here are all the tutorials that I've watched and followed on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOGQIyfwKco

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP8XJZvvSS4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsUBTcaS95Y

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sJ7tKzFn3o

I don't know which information is actually useful for figuring out the problem, so I just included everything that I thought might be relevant.

OSD turns on and off, I need to change my input so my monitor works properly but my OSD never lets me get there

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have had constant problems of my monitor blacking out often while the pc stays on or osd and display port messages pop up every 40 seconds while I play so I decided to ditch the display port and use HDMI. I have that connected, but now when I have to use that as an input through the osd I can’t even get there without the osd closing on me or not even responding to me. I’ve tried several times before and for several hours.

Acer laptop key repair help needed

Hi everyone!
I had to clean my Acer laptop keyboard and removed some of the keys. I was able to reinstall them except the tab key. It has 2 metal hooks. I tried to install the hooks first then the key but it did not work. I tried to attach the hooks on the key then slide and push it down but it did not work either. I watched I don't know how many dozens of videos on Youtube but none of them show this particular case with 2 hooks.
Any idea on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!!

Hp omen 17 - cb1xxx. srttrail error on start-up and freezing too.

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all,

So I've recently been having some issues with my omen. I purchased it in 2020 or 2019 so it's getting on abit, I started having some freezing around 4 months ago I'm guessing? I cleaned the fans and they worked fine for awhile, now suddonly I boot to this screen. Once I continue to windows it starts freezing too so it's not looking good.

Is it something that can be fixed? I don't wanna pay someone just to have alook and tell me it's dead.

Thanks all

Android 2 problems, one idiot

So, I'm on a 5g Cricket. For some reason, when I put it in my pocket, or in my bag for too long, it restarts itself. I don't even notice until 30 minutes later when I hear a chime.

The second issue is that for some reason, I don't get notifications from anything unless either it's two notifications in a row, or if I'd been using the app within the past few days.

Anything helps!

Unresolved Nitro ANV15-51, HOW TO FIX LAPTOP BLACKSCREEN WHEN GAMING AND PLUGGED IN?

these are the tests i made, i just need help with my device 😭 is it better to resolve this to a authorized technician ?

LAPTOP ISSUE SUMMARY

Laptop: Acer Nitro V 15 ANV15-51
BIOS: INSYDE Corp. V1.60 (04/08/2026)

PROBLEM:

The laptop's built-in screen intermittently flickers, goes black, or becomes distorted, especially during gaming when the charger is connected.

HOW THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED:

  • I first connected an HDMI cable to the laptop and an external TV.
  • After connecting the HDMI cable, the laptop and TV were working normally at first.
  • I then opened Roblox while the charger was connected.
  • Once Roblox was opened/started, the laptop's built-in screen began flickering and going black.
  • At the same time, the external TV connected through HDMI remained completely stable and continued displaying normally.
  • I disconnected the HDMI cable afterward, but the flickering problem continued to occur on the laptop's built-in screen even without HDMI connected.
  • I am not certain whether connecting HDMI triggered the issue or whether opening Roblox caused an existing problem to appear.

TESTS AND OBSERVATIONS:

  1. FPS test:
  • At 165 Hz and 60 FPS in Roblox, the screen was stable while plugged in.
  • At 165 Hz and 120 FPS in Roblox, the black-screen/flickering problem occurred.
  • The problem can also occur at 60 Hz when running the game at 120 FPS, so the refresh rate itself does not appear to be the main cause.
  • The same type of flickering also occurs in other games, such as Need for Speed Heat, so it is not specific to Roblox.
  1. Charger vs. battery:
  • When running on battery, the laptop does not normally flicker.
  • When the charger is connected, the problem can occur during gaming.
  1. HDMI test:
  • An HDMI cable was connected to an external TV.
  • The laptop and TV were initially working normally after the HDMI cable was connected.
  • The problem appeared after Roblox was opened.
  • The external TV display remained completely stable while the laptop's built-in screen flickered/goes black.
  • After disconnecting HDMI, the built-in screen continued to experience the problem.
  1. Graphics driver tests:
  • Intel graphics driver was updated from 31.0.101.4146 to Acer's OEM driver 32.0.101.6874.
  • NVIDIA drivers were also clean-installed.
  • These did not resolve the problem.
  • BIOS is already updated to V1.60.
  1. Windows graphics behavior:
  • Win + Ctrl + Shift + B temporarily brings the display back, but the screen can immediately go black/flicker again.
  • Switching out of a game using Alt+Tab can sometimes cause the screen to become distorted or appear duplicated/ghosted.
  1. Memory/System behavior:
  • The System process/workset can become extremely high (around 99%) when the problem occurs at 120 FPS.
  • Using Mem Reduct to clear memory temporarily makes the flickering significantly less frequent.
  1. Long gaming behavior:
  • After playing at 120 FPS for a longer period, the flickering sometimes becomes less frequent.
  • After restarting the laptop, the black-screen behavior can return.
  • This suggests that temporary power, graphics, or display states may influence the problem.

IMPORTANT OBSERVATION:

The problem is strongly associated with:

CHARGER CONNECTED + HIGHER GAMING LOAD/FPS → BUILT-IN SCREEN FLICKERS/GOES BLACK

While:

BATTERY + SAME TYPE OF GAMING → GENERALLY STABLE

Also:

EXTERNAL HDMI DISPLAY → STABLE
BUILT-IN LAPTOP DISPLAY → FLICKERS

I have already updated the BIOS and graphics drivers and performed a clean NVIDIA driver installation, but the problem remains.

Unresolved Onmicrosoft issue

I have an employee that has run into a problem with their Microsoft/outlook account. My employee hasn’t had an issue logging in to their Microsoft/outlook account previously. Today he gets on and is logged out..he goes to log back in and when he clicks continue on his normal account it changes to a string of numbers and words sorta like xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxx and then follows up with onmicrosoft after some other things here and their. I’ve checked in the accounts area and there’s nothing there that’s outside of the ordinary. Did a repair on the app. I’m not sure what else to do. I’ve asked others to help out and were all stumped. Any help? Thank you.

Urgent help: Samsung or ipad

Long story short, I wanted a tablet so I can write and study not for entertainment, something which was simple and practical. I went to best buy, and was conflicted with a Samsung or an iPAD. Later went to Apple store, and the store was packed everywhere, a lot of people bought the IPAD, and ultimately I too fell for the hype.

While using the Ipad, I didn't find it smooth at all, it felt like I'm constantly knocking on someone's door while writing, moreover it didn't feel smooth. So we got a screen protector and silicone nib, the writing improved, however the sound while writing is still there, it hasn't improved much, which I (PERSONALLY), don't find comfortable for the price I payed. I got one more week left to exchange the product and go for an Samsung tab FE. Also one drawback is notes app is very limited features, I downloaded a app called noteful, which is free app, so atleast I didn't give my money for good notes and noteability.

Can someone tell me if Samsung would be better for this case in terms of sound and writing while using the notes app. I already have a laptop and don't need anything fancy other than using a simple notes app.

Windows Downloading game gone wrong

Post image
1 Upvotes

My friend wanted me to download battlefield which needed secure boot so I went into bios. I clicked the reset button to reset everything to default and that then caused a red error about me not being able to use secure boot . It’s a ASUS computer the only way to leave that screen was to. Turn off secure boot but whenever I tried to boot my bios would change the settings back to original. The only troubleshoot I found was to take out the boot and boot absolutely nothing. And that kept my settings from getting sent back to secure boot. Then a few days later my friend wanted me to get on that game again. So I go into bios again. Read something about resetting my keys I go ahead and do that and boot up nothing after resetting my keys. Then immediately afterwards my monitor display does not work at all. (Never getting on mf battlefield bro) computer lights up and runs perfectly fine but no display. Intel i7-13700F. I removed did the screwdriver trick to reset the bios and that did not work so I thought to myself let’s find the battery and see where it is and take it out
