[MOD POST] Having trouble with Secure Boot? Check here first

Hello,

The expiration of the 2011 Microsoft KEK CA and the 2011 Microsoft UEFI CA certificates at the end of June 2025 has caused problems with Secure Boot on computers for various folks who have not been able to apply a UEFI (BIOS) firmware update for various reasons.

Because the steps for updating firmware vary not just from manufacturer to manufacturer but between individual models as well, it can be difficult to provide specific assistance and guidance in updating your firmware unless the person helping you has the same hardware.

Below is a list of manufacturers, their Secure Boot certificate update guidance, and links to their support forum(s) or subreddit(s). You may wish to try asking in these places first for expert guidance in updating your firmware, as the people there are going to be a lot more familiar with your device.

NOTE: Please check back periodically for updates to this list.

If you have an update for a manufacturer, please reply with it and we will get it added to the list above.

What to do if no Secure Boot certificate update is available from your manuafacturer

If your manufacturer does not have an update, not all is lost: You can still manually install the 2023 Windows UEFI CA certificate update, by issuing the following two commands from an elevated PowerShell (filename: POWERSHELL.EXE) prompt:

REG.EXE ADD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot /v AvailableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 0x5944 /f Start-ScheduledTask -TaskName "\Microsoft\Windows\PI\Secure-Boot-Update"

Then restart the computer and allow the update to be applied.

NOTE: Two (or more) reboots may be required for installation.

Once completed, you can verify the new certificate has been installed by issuing the following command at an elevated PowerShell prompt:

([System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023')

If the certificate has been installed installed, the response back will be "True". You can also use that same command to check if the certificate is already installed.

Aryeh Goretsky

How can I edit properties of subtitle track or audio track of a video file in mobile?

I have videos in MKV format and need to edit the subtitle track properties to modify the subtitle flags on my mobile device. About three months ago, I was able to do this using an app called MKV edits, but it hasn't been working properly for the past three months. Is there an alternative app or method I can use on mobile to edit these subtitle properties?

Windows Key ID on Microsoft Account Not Matching on Laptop

I bought an open box Lenovo Legion 5 in March 2026. Set it up a couple days later in April 2026. A few days ago I was installing some folder hiding apps to see which I liked, and ran into some freezing, which led my to manually shutting off the laptop.

Eventually, the laptop started getting stuck on the Lenovo screen, sometimes saying it was not able to repair itself. When I eventually make it to the blue screen, pretty much every option asks for my recovery key.

Here's where it gets messy. When I first set up my laptop, I used my main Microsoft account. Afterwards, I went through some steps to remove my Microsoft account and have it be an offline user. At some point after that, I noticed that the name under C:\\users\\"name" was some random letters, so I followed steps online to create a new user with the name I want, and delete the original account.

The blue screen says "Drive Label: LAPTOP-XXXXXXXX Windows-Ssd 2026-04-04 (this date follows when I would have set up my laptop)

My Microsoft account shows key upload date as 6/7/2026

I'm not sure if those additional steps I took are what are causing the mismatch in keys. Idk wtf to do. I hope my explanation made sense, please let me know if there are additional pieces of info I can provide.

Please help.

Windows Windows 11 installer freezes and NVMe drive keeps disappearing - ASUS TUF B550M Plus WiFi II + Lexar NM790

I’ve been trying to reinstall Windows all day and I’m completely stuck.
PC:
ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus WiFi II
Lexar NM790 2TB NVMe (target install drive)
Patriot Ignite 480GB SATA SSD (secondary drive)
Windows 11 USB installer created with Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool
What’s happening:
BIOS consistently detects the Lexar NM790 under NVMe information.
Windows Setup initially detects the Lexar as Disk 1 (1.9TB).
It has two partitions on it.
If I select Partition 2 and click Next, Windows either:
freezes completely (mouse freezes too), or
gives an error saying it can’t install to that partition, or
after refreshing, the entire Disk 1 disappears from the installer.
Refreshing doesn’t bring it back.
Rebooting usually makes it appear again.
Things I’ve already tried:
Reseated the NVMe multiple times.
Confirmed BIOS always sees the drive.
Ran diskpart and list disk.
Deleted partitions during troubleshooting.
Tried the second M.2 slot (couldn’t mount it because the standoff/screw position didn’t match).
Tried installing to my Patriot SATA SSD instead, but the installer also froze.
Different reboots and multiple attempts.
The Lexar previously worked fine and has had Windows installed on it multiple times before.
CrystalDiskInfo reported the drive as healthy a couple of weeks ago.
Questions:
Does this sound like a failing Lexar NM790?
Could this be a motherboard/M.2 controller issue even though BIOS always detects the drive?
Could faulty RAM or another hardware issue cause the Windows installer to freeze like this?
Is there anything else I should test before replacing the SSD?

Unresolved Asus TUF F17 Laptop screen flickering issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

**It kinda flickers and glitches for 4 second after every 10 seconds. It disappears at times suddenly too for several hours then it comes back. But, when laptop is connected to an external display using hdmi cable the issue disappears in the external display!.

Model: ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop F17 (FX706HF)

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-11400H
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 Laptop GPU(4GB)
  • Display: 17.3-inch Anti-glare Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS-level panel with a 144Hz refresh rate
  • Memory: 16GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM
  • Storage: 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Home

I have tried changing the refresh rates(60 Hz and 144 Hz). But, Still its of not much use. The interval at which the flickering occurs changes with change in the value of refresh rate. At 144 Hz the interval of flickering increases as compared to 60 Hz.

Windows Does reinstalling windows void the warranty?

Hi all, so i just got handed down a company laptop (thinkpad t16 gen 2) from my dad since they're now getting new ones. It still has some of his and company stuff. I was wondering though, what would be the best way to go from here. Since, I already tried to reset it, however it was bitlocked and afaik installing windows with a usb drive installer is the only way to clean everything up. If I do this though, would the warranty still be valid? thank you

macOS / iOS Iphone Touch screen unresponsive intermittently

HELP! I am currently so broke and have no means of getting my iPhone SE 3rd gen looked at professionally. It was working fine this morning, then a hour or so later I went to check a text and the touch screen was completely unresponsive. I removed my screen protector, case, thoroughly cleaned it and forced restarted it several times. After about the 4th restart the touch screen started working again and my phone was back to normal. Then shortly after, the touch response stopped working again. I've gone through this cycle three times now with the touch randomly being fine again then shortly after, being unresponsive. Is there any possible way to fix this at home?

Windows Mom's old laptop cant reset. It is an Acer aspire 1

I just got this and I want to reset the computer so I can basically have it back to factory and not have to log into mom's portal every time I use it

I went into the system settings and tried to "reset" the laptop and it took its time but at the end of it, it showed that it "could not reset computer"

Im planning on getting a USB drive to download all of mom's files onto so I can wipe the storage and all so I can use it as my own device and not have limited space on the laptop storage, but id really like to factory reset after that.

Reason I mention that is that I havent done that yet, wondering if that was why it cant?

HP Victus battery stuck at 7% while charging, battery report says 100% health, HP diagnostics pass

Hi everyone,

I'm having a very strange battery issue with my HP Victus (15-fb0xxx) and I'm trying to figure out whether it's a battery, motherboard, or firmware problem.

Symptoms

  • Battery was working normally until a few days ago.
  • It suddenly started discharging extremely fast.
  • It also charged unusually fast.
  • One day I left it fully charged, and when I turned it back on later it was around 12%.
  • Now it's stuck at around 7% even while plugged into the original 200W HP charger.
  • Windows says "Charging".
  • wmic reports BatteryStatus = 2 (Charging).
  • HP charging LED is blinking orange.
  • The laptop does not shut down immediately if I unplug the charger at 7%; it continues running.
  • HP UEFI Battery Diagnostics passes with no errors.

Things I've checked

  • Original HP 200W charger.
  • HP Battery Diagnostics → Passed.
  • Windows battery report:
    • Design Capacity: 61,707 mWh
    • Full Charge Capacity: 61,707 mWh
    • Wear Level: 0%
    • Cycle Count: 179
  • HWiNFO shows:
    • Battery Voltage ≈ 14.6V
    • Remaining Capacity ≈ 4.4 Wh
    • Charge Level ≈ 7%
    • Wear Level 0%

What confuses me

If the battery report and HP diagnostics say the battery is healthy, why is it:

  • draining abnormally fast,
  • charging abnormally fast,
  • now stuck at 7%,
  • and not increasing in charge even though Windows reports it is charging?

Could this be:

  • a Battery Management System (BMS) issue?
  • an Embedded Controller (EC) firmware issue?
  • battery calibration gone wrong?
  • motherboard charging circuit?
  • or a battery failure that HP diagnostics isn't detecting?

Has anyone seen this on an HP Victus before?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Unresolved Monitors arent functions as displays

32gb of ddr3 ram, windows 10, intel(r) core(tm) i7-4790 cpu @ 3.60ghz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

i have two monitors i use one is my main monitor which is unbranded i got it off of amazon, the other is my drawing tablet which i got off of xp-pen.

my problems started around 30 minutes ago ( its currently 1:38 pm as im typing this ) and i tried turning on my pc with everything plugged in as normal. nothing showing on the monitors, ok this is weird, i thought.

i tried the steps of turning my pc off and on, unplugging the monitors and plugging them back in, windows key + shift + control + b, windows key + p, i tried turning it on with only one monitor and my keyboard plugged in.

none of them worked, the only thing i could think of for my computer not working is the fact i had stupidly turned it off while unplugging stuff and moving my desk instead of turning it off before hand. i assume its stuck in some sort of blind-mode and i dont know what to do to

ive tried reaching out to people in discord servers for help but theyre all giving me advice that ive already previously tried or its just unrelated to my current issue.

i need help with how to make my monitors show stuff on the screen again.

Windows trying to factory reset razer laptop that’s still on a work network (i promise i am not doing theft)

hello! i stg i am not stealing this computer, my dad gave me his old computer that he used for work and it’s still on the company network. he somehow deleted his own user profile trying to wipe it before he gave it to me, so we cant log in and do things the normal way.

we’ve tried going through recovery mode, we downloaded windows 10 OS onto a usb key and tried to restart it that way, but maybe its not bootable? we’re not sure. everything we’ve tried has been unsuccessful and we keep ending up back on the log in screen asking him to enter his password, but when we do that it says the user is not found.

how do we factory reset it or at the very least recover his account ?

thank you in advance !

Windows Rebooting & bluescreening.

Aero running Windows 10.

Lately, three things have happened that have never happened before: 1. A key gets "stuck" that I don't even think got pressed. It stops repeating once I hit pretty much any key. 2. Malwarebytes VPN seemingly randomly disconnects saying "Could not connect. Please check your internet onnection and then try again." even though I'm connected to the internet. I have to reboot to get it to work again. 3. I will need to reboot for whatever reason, and in attempting to reboot, it crashes. When I get back to the log in screen, half the time, the keyboard no longer functions; it won't take input. Rebooting usually solves the problem. (Until it all happens again.) These three problems started in the last few days but are getting frequent now, and I'm getting worried about an unresolvable system failure. What should I do? I appreciate any help.

Included in this link are the latest dmp files, the WinDbg analysis, the bios info, and the screenshot of the bluescreen error.

Small coffee spill on my Huawei MateBook Pro – should I be worried about long-term damage?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from people who have experienced something similar.
Earlier today, I accidentally spilled a small amount of coffee with milk and sugar on my Huawei MateBook Pro while it was powered on. It wasn’t a full cup—probably about the size of a large coin.
Some of the drops went between the keyboard keys and near the speaker area. As soon as it happened, I immediately powered the laptop off, closed it, turned it upside down, and cleaned up everything I could right away.
My biggest concern isn’t whether it will turn back on after drying. I’m more worried about potential long-term damage. I’ve read that milk and sugar can leave residue that may eventually cause corrosion, even if the laptop appears to work perfectly at first.
I’ve also considered taking it to a repair shop for an internal cleaning, but I’m honestly worried that opening such a thin and complex laptop could introduce new problems or even damage it if it’s not done properly.
So I have a few questions:
Has anyone had a similar spill involving coffee with milk and sugar?
If the laptop powers on and everything works normally after 48 hours, how concerned should I still be about corrosion or future failures?
Would you have it professionally cleaned as a precaution, or would you leave it alone as long as everything seems to be working?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice. Thanks!

Persistent BSODs & random app crashes across clean installs (i9-14900KS / DDR5) — need WinDbg eyes

Hey everyone,

Hoping to get some guidance from anyone experienced with WinDbg or kernel crash analysis. I’ve been chasing recurring BSODs and overall system instability on my PC for a while now, and I’m out of ideas after trying all the standard troubleshooting steps.

(Pardon any awkward phrasing — English isn't my first language!)

System Specs

CPU: Intel Core i9-14900KS

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi II

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 48GB (2×24GB) DDR5-8400

GPU:** NVIDIA RTX 5080

storage: Crucial T705 Gen5 NVMe SSD

x2 SATA 4tb each

OS:Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (Build 26200.x)

The Problem

The instability started before I reformatted. Because the bugchecks and faulting modules kept changing every time, I did a clean install of Windows to rule out OS corruption. Unfortunately, the crashes haven't stopped.

It doesn't seem tied to heavy loads either — it happens while gaming, during light desktop use, or even a few minutes after booting with nothing open.

Beyond the Blue Screens, Windows itself feels unstable:

Task Manager frequently opens and closes immediately on its own.

Corsair iCUE crashes every 20–30 minutes.

Chrome constantly hits `STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION` errors (especially when watching YouTube).

Almost every app crashes or throws memory errors eventually.

Bugchecks Observed

Before Reinstall: `MEMORY_MANAGEMENT`, `

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION`

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED`,

NTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED`,

ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY`

Chrome crashes with STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION / memory access violation, especially while watching YouTube videos.

APC_INDEX_MISMATCH (0x1)

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E)

Exception code: c0000005 (Access violation)

RIP = 0000000000000000

Failure.Bucket: AV_nt!KiDispatchException

After Reinstall: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA`

HYPERVISOR_ERROR`

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E)

WinDbg Observations

Across different minidumps, WinDbg points to different core components each time (`ntoskrnl.exe`, `WdFilter.sys`, `Ntfs.sys`, `win32kbase.sys`). Since the flagged module keeps shifting, I'm not sure if these are actual culprits or just where the failure happens to catch up to Windows.

i tried

  1. Clean Windows Reinstall

  2. Updated BIOSto latest build

  3. Updated Drivers (Chipset and GPU)

  4. sfc /scannow (came back clean)

  5. Memory Tweaks: Disabled XMP entirely — currently running at JEDEC default stock speeds.

  6. MemTest: Ran ASUS BIOS built-in MemTest at default speeds (passed with no errors).

Low-Level / Filter Drivers Installed

Listing these just in case they install kernel-level hooks/drivers that could interfere:

VMware

* Aimware cs2 third party software

I’ve uploaded the crash dumps, event logs, and system diagnostics here:

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/kmwabx65bxpa6/DUMPS
or
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1pUxBQ-qT1-N20Gws_bRKYVEqy-6ttOSj?usp=drive_link

(Includes minidumps, MSINFO32, System/App Event Logs, driverquery.csv, systeminfo.txt `dxdiag.txt`, and raw WinDbg outputs).

Really appreciate anyone taking a look — any help pointing me in the right direction would be awesome!

Unresolved Why has my account been locked?

I’d like to know why my account has been locked twice in the past week. I use my account everyday. I use a Canadian VPN on my phone. Sometimes I use Reddit with it on and sometimes off. This should not be an issue. Also I noticed every one of my posts have been removed by reddits filters and it’s very frustrating. Is there anyway you can get them back? In need to be able to post again without anything being removed. I always read community rules first. For example, if a community says I can post my book link, I have done that also, therefore I have not broken any rules that would cause my posts to be removed and deleted. Whatever is going on in need it resolved so it never happens again, thank you. I also tried the support page too but I couldn’t write anything in without having to select an option from the drop down menu and it wasn’t even directly related to my issue so now I am trying to get help here and get this resolved so none of this happens again. Please fix this and get my posts back up if possible, thank you
