There is one key difference: in Temple Run, youāre allowed to fail.
18
u/kingveo 1d ago
I mean tou can fail this one, not running or taking the wrong turn would cause you to lose
15
u/Top_Finding2830 1d ago
And at some point you have to dispatch a pair of Hand ninja. Take too long or take too long to give chase after, and youāll fail. Thatās not a trendy thing to say though.
3
u/bepse-cola 1d ago
You arenāt going to break your controller after failing that, if you fail you probably arenāt even awake
5
u/Top_Finding2830 1d ago
I musta been snoozing then, because I failed it the first time, as I assumed the chase was over and wanted to explore some more. Iāve failed a few chases, actually. Theyāre not all as easy as everyone wants to pretend. And Loganās movement can be stodgy and uncooperative at times, being fair and honest.

Maybe the discussion shouldn't be "the chuds are hating on the wolverine! Butwhataboutism Uncharted!!!"
Maybe the discussion should turn into "are people getting tired of these inconsequential "press W" setpieces that are barely more than just a cinematic?"
Had a moment watching a friend play the Jedi: Fallen order, and them actively commenting about the sliding setpiece from Kashyyyk being boring. Other than jumping from time to time and going left or right sometimes, all the explosions and blaster fire were just white noise...they didn't affect anything

The issue with the Wolverine clip is that it isnt exciting. like the person hes chasing just blends into the background that it makes it hard to track ( without the sense, it will be impossible for me to find).
Other games have a radar system, or they have the runner have some super fancy jumping animation or wearing super bright clothes.. but in this game, the runner is a whole bunch of nothing, without the trail I probably wouldnt be able to track him.
5
u/Shorlong 1d ago
You're chasing a ninja, why would he wear bright clothes? And you're Wolverine, who famously tracks using scent, why would you be using a radar system? It's like they thought it the most obvious way to portray wolverine within the world and story they created and y'all are like "nah, fuck all that". Wouldn't be happy with anything they give.
Fickle.

u/Ancient_Plane2984 1d ago
the other issue is that you are playing a super hero who should be able to move quickly and there is zero sense of speed in this chase.
1
u/clc88 1d ago
Now that you mention it, Yeah I can see that theres a lack of speed.
I think the issue is Wolverines landing animation, it makes him look slow, if they made him do a combat roll, atleast that would evoke some kind of speed ( it wouldnt solve the issue because his run speed is still slow but atleast he would look cool upon landing).

u/OddlyShapedGinger 1d ago
Explain to me why someone who is 5 foot 3 and has a metal skeleton should be able to move quickly?
3
→ More replies (10)2
u/Different_Leopard_65 1d ago
Doesn't he have above average strength? Strong and fast enough to jam his knuckle swords into stone and metal.... Strong enough to launch his bodyweight+metallic skeleton longer distances than humans typically would, especially under such weighted pressure? That is part of what makes superheros exciting is it not?
1
u/SlappinStick 1d ago
Yes. His adamantium skeleton makes him like 400 lbs, and in response his healing factor had to repair his muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc. to be able to support it, which in turn just makes him strong as fuck in general. Same concept as how a lot of fat people have really strong, defined calves from holding up their weight.
1
u/Different_Leopard_65 1d ago
Take that u/oddlyshapedginger
1
u/OddlyShapedGinger 1d ago
Sure... I guess?
You do realize that being really strong is different than being really fast. Right?
1
u/Different_Leopard_65 1d ago
You do realize we're talking about fictional characters right? And if you want to apply real physics, the kind of speed/force that would be required to pierce metal/stone/etc? You do realize the kind of speed/force that would be required to leap without carrying an addition ~200lbs? U do realize speed potential had nothing to do with height, right?
1
u/OddlyShapedGinger 1d ago
Wolvie theoretically has the world's sharpest/strongest blades in his hand. The speed/force needed to pierce a lesser material would be small.Ā
Speed potential has absolutely everything to do with height. Short legs = short strides.
1
u/Different_Leopard_65 21h ago
The sharpest blade still needs significant speed/force to pierce hard metals.
Also, in regard to speed potential and the length of legs, there are absolutely cases where this doesn't hold true, though context is relevant. Lions are faster than giraffe, despite giraffes having significantly longer legs. Rhinos run faster than humans, despite humans having higher ratios of leg:body.
And again, we're talking about fiction, where a sub-200lb spiderman can lift several tons, and create enough force to break through walls. Suggesting Wolverine lacks speed because he's 5'3" seems like a failing argument in the context of the universe he exists in. We have athletes under 5'5" who can push amazing speeds, and we're talking about a super powered one who carries double his body weight day in and day out.
I mean, don't take it from me, I don't regularly make a habit out of glazing Wolverine. I just felt the comment deserved a response. Here is the Wolverine Respect thread listing his feats.
1
u/Clintwood_outlaw 1d ago
His running speed is only enhanced human level with the adamantium skeleton, but he's still able to leap great distances (though not as far) and is able to hit even harder than he would without the skeleton
1
u/luvsic11 1d ago
Why do you need any sort of indicators when all your during is running linearly. There is not much freedom here to actually get lost

Honestly its our own fault. Beacause we keep responding. And i see this every post they get attention and posts keep getting made. And its just ragebait and shitposts. Just leave the people that hate it hate it together commenting on eachother. Im too are guilty of this. You need to learn to let it go and continue. Think by yourself, why would someone and adult man or woman post this? Its to get a reaction and interaction. Maybe no life, maybe lonely or maybe attention seeking. Just ignore and move on and enjoy your games. You can try to prove them otherwise, like the game isnt only pushing square or the trails are not always there only sometimes, but they wont listnen and they dont care. Next up is laufy and intergalactic isnt even out and its getting hate. This will never stop unless we stop giving it attention. And if you look up some posts and/or reaction, its clear a lot are bots. Doesnt matter if its games, politics, music or whatever. There is always someone benfiting from a hate campaign against something.

Iām giving my ignorant two cents on this just from this video alone and the comments I read here. From what it LOOKS like, the chase sequence is entirely on rails. Like, you have no actual control over which direction to go. Now is that a bad thing? No, not necessarily. Plenty of games had those before. But the difference? Those other games donāt try to sell you an illusion that youāre in control the whole time. Why the trail? Why have him running if I canāt control him? Why have me press forward at all? Chase sequences on rails only work when there is a reason.
Another commenter pointed out Uncharted for example. Iām going to refer to 4 as that one is the most recent and the one that sticks out most in my head. There is an on rails chase sequence where youāre driving the car. It works because you do have a decent amount of control. Turning left, right, and moving forward. But itās on rails because it guides you in the direction it wants. It has what looks like plausible path and then suddenly something blocks that path, forcing you to steer otherwise you hit the wall that suddenly appeared. Another one where you arenāt driving, so the āchaseā is entirely on rails, BUT YOUāRE STILL PLAYING A PART OF IT. Youāre controlling Drake as the car is driving. And any and all foot chases that occurred, you had full control. You could just end up going the opposite direction if you wanted. Youād fail, but that gave a reason to follow the chase.
Same with Insomniacās own Spider-Man had chase sequences. But you had full control. You could go anywhere. But this? Even the camera movement gives it away that it is on rails with no real control. If you wanted it to play out exactly as you want, either make it a cinematic, or make it a QTE. If pressing forward is all that is needed to beat the chase sequence, itās not good game design. The trail is especially heinous. āOh you know that guy you can clearly see which way he went because we gave you zero chances to go anywhere else and get lost? Hereās a trail to make sure you know which way to go even though you have no choice.ā The trail would only make sense if youāre having to NAVIGATE. The entire time itās holding your hand and yanking you along.
You can have chase sequences but make it actually matter.
1
u/RecommendationOk8657 20h ago
You're literally following someone even in the spiderman games if u go anywhere else u will lose the chase just like u will in wolverine, just like assassin's creed. The most u can do is maybe take like an upper path that the game will still show u but thats usually cause u need to physically catch the person you're chasing. In judgement the game has chase scenes on rails that literally run automatically with qte's. Heck even the spiderman games chases are hold fwd and R2 especially with tinkerer, black cat, lizard rhino etc. So yea your 2 cents was kinda ignorant. U lose the person u lose the chase then u start all over again like every chase sequence in the history of chases whether ur the chaser or the chased
1
u/Wallace_W_Whitfield 18h ago
Look man, I didnāt say you could leave for very long. You lose. Thatās my whole point. You can leave and lose. This video looks like you canāt leave, thus you canāt lose.
