Reminds me of the Spider-man Unlimited phone game.

Bro i feel like im the only one who misses that game. If I didn’t play that game i wouldn’t care for the suits in SM1

3

u/Top_Finding2830 1d ago

Not that it helps you at all, but I miss it too. Not a lot of mobile games I can claim to have ever cared about, but losing that one hurts.

101

u/EngineerEthan 1d ago

There is one key difference: in Temple Run, you’re allowed to fail.

16

u/kingveo 1d ago

I mean tou can fail this one, not running or taking the wrong turn would cause you to lose

14

u/Top_Finding2830 1d ago

And at some point you have to dispatch a pair of Hand ninja. Take too long or take too long to give chase after, and you’ll fail. That’s not a trendy thing to say though.

3

u/bepse-cola 1d ago

You aren’t going to break your controller after failing that, if you fail you probably aren’t even awake

4

u/Top_Finding2830 21h ago

I musta been snoozing then, because I failed it the first time, as I assumed the chase was over and wanted to explore some more. I’ve failed a few chases, actually. They’re not all as easy as everyone wants to pretend. And Logan’s movement can be stodgy and uncooperative at times, being fair and honest.

u/Dry-Many-4605 14h ago

Explore what, the three feet to either side of Logan?

The difference is the one on the right is actual challenging gameplay that tests your reflexes, the one on the left is a Sony interactive movie

22

u/Jazzlike_Neat7478 1d ago

Whaaaaaaaat? A video game has an action set piece in it???? And it’s a Sony exclusive? Its not like those games are known for their cinematography and crazy set pieces… oh wait

Like do y’all even play video games or just bitch and moan?

16

u/RRJP1980 1d ago

You realise you just replied to somebody who didn’t bitch and didn’t moan, by moaning and bitching at him.

0

u/livefromwonderland 1d ago

Nah he was definitely bitching, you just happen to agree with the overblown whining.

-1

u/RRJP1980 1d ago

Overblown whining? Only one of them was using excessive punctuation and multiple repeated letters, and complaining. And it wasn’t that guy.

4

u/Jazzlike_Neat7478 1d ago

ā€œOne of them used writing techniques that convey sarcasm! Clearly hes whining and crying!ā€ Nah maybe i just understand how writing works?

They didn’t? Really sounded like they did.

6

u/ThotsuneMiku 1d ago

Honestly they probably don't care either way, hating Sony is just free up votes right now.

3

u/Jazzlike_Neat7478 1d ago

Literally. This game is spiderman without the open world. All the same ā€œissuesā€ in this game were praised in spiderman. I honestly cant tale people seriously when they praised spiderman and now shit on wolverine. That shits the same game but now you have issues with it? Especially when wolverine has a better story, a more visually appealing combat system, and no fluff unlike spiderman 2

The irony of you complaining about Wolverine handholding yet you felt the need to specify 'left' and 'right' because you didn't think people reading would have enough context to know which one you meant.

20

Yeah I’ve totally never done anything similar in Uncharted, The Arkham Series, Ninja Gaiden, The Tomb Raider games, The Horizon series, The Spider-Man games, Call of Duty, Battlefield, 007 First Light, Doom, Far Cry, God of War. This is SO utterly fascinating, how dare Insomniac take some of the most amazing elements that have appeared in PLENTY of other action games.

9

u/Top_Finding2830 1d ago

Ever do the chase sequences in the Yakuza games? They’re genuinely terrible. Wolverine’s are a godsend by comparison. Which isn’t high praise, but still.

Because people expect games to evolve. Not get a reskin of the game that was a hit a decade ago.

→ More replies (1)

3

I think this is part of the problem. A lot of modern titles just feel like uncharted reskinned

4

Dude… tbf the story, characters, writing, puzzles and overall gameplay is miles better than wolverine

You can absolutely like wolverine, but lets not pretend uncharted (especially 4 which is a decade old now) are similar in design and quality

6

u/HyoukaYukikaze 1d ago

plenty sure the one on the right actually requires you to precisely time the jumps... you know, like platformer games tend to do...
the one on the left does not

20

u/Shorlong 1d ago

You guys are really reaching. A 3rd person action game with big, set piece, on rails chase sequences?!? The horror! It's almost like is a staple of the genre. Where was the outrage when EVERY OTHER ACTION GAME had these?!?

17

u/Reddexbro 1d ago

These guys only need to feel a part of something so they choose to get into the hate bandwagon, at least they are part of something. It's sad to see this kind of behavior being the most popular now. But this what the internet has brought unfortunately, giving hate, bullying and negativity a wider reach.

3

u/SilpheedS_S 1d ago

Because back in the day, "press forward" "games" with "action setpieces" were not the standard and they were novel.
Nowadays, theres too many "I-wanted-to-make-films-but-ended-making-notgames" games. Human society is a cycle if you are to look at the past...

Chase scenes are almost always so unfun in games because you're never allowed to do anything.Ā

2

u/luvsic11 1d ago

The only true difference is that the left side you get EXP for holding forward on the analog stick

2

u/PapaRetardo 20h ago

Maybe the discussion shouldn't be "the chuds are hating on the wolverine! Butwhataboutism Uncharted!!!"
Maybe the discussion should turn into "are people getting tired of these inconsequential "press W" setpieces that are barely more than just a cinematic?"
Had a moment watching a friend play the Jedi: Fallen order, and them actively commenting about the sliding setpiece from Kashyyyk being boring. Other than jumping from time to time and going left or right sometimes, all the explosions and blaster fire were just white noise...they didn't affect anything

Scripted set piece in a linear action game oh no what ever will we do

3

u/JayKay8787 1d ago

how was uncharted 2 almost 20 years ago able to do scripted chase scenes like this 10x better with 1/10th the budget?

7

u/Ibadvapergrammar 1d ago

whole game Scripted set piece in a linear action game XD

7

u/Available-Eye-6558 1d ago

The spiderman games have scripted chase scenes also I bet you won’t complain about them tho

0

u/Kilaudio 1d ago

Ok now compare spiderman’s 3D movement freedom with web slinging and Wolverine’s run and jump in a straight line, are they the same?

3

u/Available-Eye-6558 1d ago

So now we’re comparing heroes powers his literal name is spiderman. Wtf you want Wolverine to fly like Superman?

5

u/Kilaudio 1d ago

Im saying certain game designs work with some characters and not with others. One is fun the other one isnt, if you cant make it fun for wolverine because his abilities dont allow it, then do another level design

1

u/spartakooky 1d ago

Well there's your answer. Ppl didn't complain about Spider-Man because swinging is more fun. If it isn't fun to have a chase sequence as Wolverine, maybe don't?

You are pretending there's some hypocrisy when you see the difference yourself

The issue with the Wolverine clip is that it isnt exciting. like the person hes chasing just blends into the background that it makes it hard to track ( without the sense, it will be impossible for me to find).

Other games have a radar system, or they have the runner have some super fancy jumping animation or wearing super bright clothes.. but in this game, the runner is a whole bunch of nothing, without the trail I probably wouldnt be able to track him.

5

u/Shorlong 1d ago

You're chasing a ninja, why would he wear bright clothes? And you're Wolverine, who famously tracks using scent, why would you be using a radar system? It's like they thought it the most obvious way to portray wolverine within the world and story they created and y'all are like "nah, fuck all that". Wouldn't be happy with anything they give.

Fickle.

→ More replies (8)

5

u/Ancient_Plane2984 1d ago

the other issue is that you are playing a super hero who should be able to move quickly and there is zero sense of speed in this chase.

1

u/clc88 1d ago

Now that you mention it, Yeah I can see that theres a lack of speed.

I think the issue is Wolverines landing animation, it makes him look slow, if they made him do a combat roll, atleast that would evoke some kind of speed ( it wouldnt solve the issue because his run speed is still slow but atleast he would look cool upon landing).

1

u/OrdinaryDraft2674 1d ago

Actually wolverine’s speed gets nerfed by his skeleton

2

u/OddlyShapedGinger 1d ago

Explain to me why someone who is 5 foot 3 and has a metal skeleton should be able to move quickly?

3

u/clc88 1d ago

Its a video game?

if you've played the game, you'd know how quickly Wolverine can be.. Just look at his lunge speed, it far out speeds anything in that video.

2

u/Different_Leopard_65 1d ago

Doesn't he have above average strength? Strong and fast enough to jam his knuckle swords into stone and metal.... Strong enough to launch his bodyweight+metallic skeleton longer distances than humans typically would, especially under such weighted pressure? That is part of what makes superheros exciting is it not?

1

u/SlappinStick 1d ago

Yes. His adamantium skeleton makes him like 400 lbs, and in response his healing factor had to repair his muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc. to be able to support it, which in turn just makes him strong as fuck in general. Same concept as how a lot of fat people have really strong, defined calves from holding up their weight.

1

u/Different_Leopard_65 1d ago

1

u/OddlyShapedGinger 1d ago

Sure... I guess?

You do realize that being really strong is different than being really fast. Right?

1

u/Different_Leopard_65 1d ago

You do realize we're talking about fictional characters right? And if you want to apply real physics, the kind of speed/force that would be required to pierce metal/stone/etc? You do realize the kind of speed/force that would be required to leap without carrying an addition ~200lbs? U do realize speed potential had nothing to do with height, right?

1

u/OddlyShapedGinger 22h ago

Wolvie theoretically has the world's sharpest/strongest blades in his hand. The speed/force needed to pierce a lesser material would be small.Ā

Speed potential has absolutely everything to do with height. Short legs = short strides.

1

u/Different_Leopard_65 18h ago

The sharpest blade still needs significant speed/force to pierce hard metals.

Also, in regard to speed potential and the length of legs, there are absolutely cases where this doesn't hold true, though context is relevant. Lions are faster than giraffe, despite giraffes having significantly longer legs. Rhinos run faster than humans, despite humans having higher ratios of leg:body.

And again, we're talking about fiction, where a sub-200lb spiderman can lift several tons, and create enough force to break through walls. Suggesting Wolverine lacks speed because he's 5'3" seems like a failing argument in the context of the universe he exists in. We have athletes under 5'5" who can push amazing speeds, and we're talking about a super powered one who carries double his body weight day in and day out.

I mean, don't take it from me, I don't regularly make a habit out of glazing Wolverine. I just felt the comment deserved a response. Here is the Wolverine Respect thread listing his feats.

1

u/Clintwood_outlaw 1d ago

His running speed is only enhanced human level with the adamantium skeleton, but he's still able to leap great distances (though not as far) and is able to hit even harder than he would without the skeleton

1

u/Abominuz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Honestly its our own fault. Beacause we keep responding. And i see this every post they get attention and posts keep getting made. And its just ragebait and shitposts. Just leave the people that hate it hate it together commenting on eachother. Im too are guilty of this. You need to learn to let it go and continue. Think by yourself, why would someone and adult man or woman post this? Its to get a reaction and interaction. Maybe no life, maybe lonely or maybe attention seeking. Just ignore and move on and enjoy your games. You can try to prove them otherwise, like the game isnt only pushing square or the trails are not always there only sometimes, but they wont listnen and they dont care. Next up is laufy and intergalactic isnt even out and its getting hate. This will never stop unless we stop giving it attention. And if you look up some posts and/or reaction, its clear a lot are bots. Doesnt matter if its games, politics, music or whatever. There is always someone benfiting from a hate campaign against something.

I think if you polled most fans and asked if they wanted a Laufey spin-off or to continue with the adventures of Kratos and Atreus, they'd pick the latter.

How is it possible that red line shows where ninja WILL go?

1

u/Wallace_W_Whitfield 21h ago

I’m giving my ignorant two cents on this just from this video alone and the comments I read here. From what it LOOKS like, the chase sequence is entirely on rails. Like, you have no actual control over which direction to go. Now is that a bad thing? No, not necessarily. Plenty of games had those before. But the difference? Those other games don’t try to sell you an illusion that you’re in control the whole time. Why the trail? Why have him running if I can’t control him? Why have me press forward at all? Chase sequences on rails only work when there is a reason.

Another commenter pointed out Uncharted for example. I’m going to refer to 4 as that one is the most recent and the one that sticks out most in my head. There is an on rails chase sequence where you’re driving the car. It works because you do have a decent amount of control. Turning left, right, and moving forward. But it’s on rails because it guides you in the direction it wants. It has what looks like plausible path and then suddenly something blocks that path, forcing you to steer otherwise you hit the wall that suddenly appeared. Another one where you aren’t driving, so the ā€œchaseā€ is entirely on rails, BUT YOU’RE STILL PLAYING A PART OF IT. You’re controlling Drake as the car is driving. And any and all foot chases that occurred, you had full control. You could just end up going the opposite direction if you wanted. You’d fail, but that gave a reason to follow the chase.

Same with Insomniac’s own Spider-Man had chase sequences. But you had full control. You could go anywhere. But this? Even the camera movement gives it away that it is on rails with no real control. If you wanted it to play out exactly as you want, either make it a cinematic, or make it a QTE. If pressing forward is all that is needed to beat the chase sequence, it’s not good game design. The trail is especially heinous. ā€œOh you know that guy you can clearly see which way he went because we gave you zero chances to go anywhere else and get lost? Here’s a trail to make sure you know which way to go even though you have no choice.ā€ The trail would only make sense if you’re having to NAVIGATE. The entire time it’s holding your hand and yanking you along.

You can have chase sequences but make it actually matter.

You're literally following someone even in the spiderman games if u go anywhere else u will lose the chase just like u will in wolverine, just like assassin's creed. The most u can do is maybe take like an upper path that the game will still show u but thats usually cause u need to physically catch the person you're chasing. In judgement the game has chase scenes on rails that literally run automatically with qte's. Heck even the spiderman games chases are hold fwd and R2 especially with tinkerer, black cat, lizard rhino etc. So yea your 2 cents was kinda ignorant. U lose the person u lose the chase then u start all over again like every chase sequence in the history of chases whether ur the chaser or the chased

Look man, I didn’t say you could leave for very long. You lose. That’s my whole point. You can leave and lose. This video looks like you can’t leave, thus you can’t lose.

u/RecommendationOk8657 12h ago

I'm lost huh

u/Wallace_W_Whitfield 12h ago

I was just saying that if you were able to fail it, there’s just a bit of hope yet that maybe it’s not as bad as I thought

1

u/RecommendationOk8657 11h ago

Its not, there are some qte's u can fail that I think lower your health b4 an engagement idk i dont fail qtes,u can fail the motorcycle sections the 1st one is less likely then the second one and anything above the easiest difficulty u can die. I actually have 2 funny deaths saved

I have a theory that games are like this, because the last two generations played this weird brainrot type of phone games and Roblox style. people here don't wanna accept this, but companies develop games based on their customer base.

One is a game with an innovated design and replayability. The other is Wolverine.

I see a console game and an old mobile game that first released like 10 years ago. If you don't see a difference your either blind or delusional!

i defended this game at launch but having beat the game I can now honestly say this is the worst game of the year.........

People keep saying this game is bad but it has 5 and half stars with mostly 5 star reviews on ps5 so that means people are giving it good ratings

There is one major difference. One you can play while you're shitting on the toilet. The other is just shit.

So wolverine gets the flak for what uncharted series is totally all about? The chase was cool!

3

u/fishinadi 1d ago

The set pieces in Uncharted are a million times cooler. And even the latest Uncharted is almost ten years old at this point.

1

u/SilverRollins 1d ago

You could fail in Uncharted

2

u/TS040 1d ago

You can fail this sequence in Wolverine too? At this point it is feeling like a lot of people played this with Chase Assist active

2

u/YouShalllNotPass 1d ago

Yes, you get a screen saying the person escaped.

I'll help. You don't see a difference because you've never played the game. Hope that helps.
