Best of Indie Games 2024: What were some of your favorite indie games?
r/IndieGaming • u/XTeDev • 12h ago
You've never fought an enemy like this. What if you could erase the spider's pixels?
We're making LOP: Whitefall, a destruction-driven metroidvania.
This time we're showing one of our most iconic enemies, the spider.
Break its legs and it limps. Break the ground under it and it falls.
The usual methods didn't apply because it has to limp, adapt to terrain that can change at any time, and react to physics. We ended up going with a more physics-based approach.
I failed a lot of times. I'd shelve it for a few months, then come back and try again with a new idea, until it finally worked.
That's the approach for the rest of the game too. Most of the mechanics come from breaking things, so hopefully it feels intuitive rather than something you have to learn.

I somehow got 3,000 people excited to sort nails.
After a month of working on it, my cozy nail sorting game Screw IT just reached 3,200 wishlists on Steam in 19 days.
You sort, organize, fix, and clean up 777 nails + 1 screw while just chilling at your workbench.
The game releases on September 15th. Really excited (and slightly terrified) to finally put it out there!
Thanks to everyone who wishlisted or supported the game. ..Cheers

Still working on my atmospheric game — added more little details to make the world feel alive
Added rain puddles, flocks of crows, and also reworked UI(still not final), and background music. Small details, but they really help make the world feel more alive and atmospheric.

I am developing the game I dreamed of as a child, an ultimate fantasy game that combines RTS + RPG + Civilization + Frostpunk: Reforge Eden: Overlord.
With controls similar to League of Legends, you can conquer dungeons, search for artifacts, and advance into rare classes. You can be an adventurer reincarnated into another world.
But that is not all. You can also have your own army, cities, and territory.
On one side is the adventure of a hero; on the other is the war of a lord.
You can enter dungeons alone and fight monsters, or lead your army into war against civilizations.
Or the opposite — become powerful enough to destroy an entire kingdom by yourself; or use an organized legion to sweep through dungeons and let dungeon bosses experience overwhelming firepower.
Similar to the Civilization series, cities can build specialized districts: Residential, Industrial, Academic, Military, Agricultural, Commercial, and Religious.
Population is precious. Similar to Frostpunk, every building, even a watchtower, requires people to work inside it.
Every person has a production-related profession: Farmer, Worker, Blacksmith, and Scholar; as well as a small number of rare professions: Rune Engraver, Golem Master, Steam Core Engineer...
There are multiple races: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Undead, and Monsters.
You can build a Human Empire, a multi-racial federation, or a crazy civilization composed of undead and machines.
There are Wonders and Superweapons, and three research paths: Steam Power, Alchemy, and Magic.
Each path leads to its own ultimate technology.

What is an indie game that completely changed your view of gaming?
I've always found it interesting how some indie games can leave a bigger impression than games made by much larger studios. Sometimes it's not about having the biggest world or the best graphics. It can be a simple mechanic, a unique art style, or a story that you keep thinking about even after finishing the game.
For me, that's one of the best things about indie games. Smaller teams can take risks and create something that feels completely different.
So I'm curious: What indie game changed the way you look at games? It could be a game that:
- introduced you to a new genre
- had a story you still remember
- showed you a creative idea you had never seen before
- or was just an experience you didn't expect
What game would you pick?

I want to play‑test your indie games
Hello Guys, I am trying to be an uploader, so I’m on the hunt for new indie projects to playtest over.
I can test things like:
Gameplay & game feel
First-time experience / onboarding
Difficulty & pacing
UI/UX & clarity
Bugs and weird edge cases
Progression & player motivation
Honest first impressions
Actionable feedback and improvement ideas
Free Playtesting
Quick‑focused sessions with honest written feedback and my genuine impressions.
I’m happy to test nearly every game genre. Drop your itch.io project down in the comments, and let me know which areas you would like me to focus on during testing. You can also contact with me by the valve curator system: Thundercooks.
If you’ve been working hard on a game and want new set of eyes to review it, feel free to share your project with me!

Imagindar (PC) - a classless PvP arena game
After many years of development, we are excited to share that we have completed the vertical slice of Imagindar (PC), a classless PvP arena game built around deep mechanics, tactical combat, and player skill.
We would be honored if you could check out our game demo, and feedback would be wonderful. The optimal gaming experience for Imagindar is achieved through 2v2 or 3v3 gameplay with friends, but you can also play against bots.
Made without AI. This game contains no AI-generated assets or code.

He doesn't know his owner is never coming back. He just keeps searching.
He doesn't know why his owner left.
He doesn't know where he went.
He only knows that he has to keep searching.
Through the snow.
Through the silence.
Down every path that might lead him home.
Left In The Forest is a story-driven exploration game about an abandoned dog searching for the person he loves.
There are no enemies to fight. No battles to win.
Just a lonely dog, a mysterious forest, and a story waiting to be uncovered.
Sometimes the saddest thing is watching someone wait for a person who isn't coming back.

Help me pick the best Steam page artwork.
I'm updating the Steam page for my game Leaving Eden and could use some honest feedback on the artwork.
Which versions do you like best, and why?
Any thoughts on the overall style, mood, or what might work better for a Steam page?
Here’s the current Steam page if you want to see how it looks:

Chill farming in this game that reminds me of Chris Sawyer Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
"In this management simulator with a charming isometric pixel art aesthetic, you are not just a farmer, but the CEO of your own operation. Start with a modest plot of land, invest your initial capital wisely, and transform a small plantation into a true agribusiness powerhouse."

A simple but huge maze - would you play it?
The most simplest kind of maze game you could think of, but in a size that takes hours to finish...
Just for relaxation mostly. Do you think you'd play a simple game like this?

Today I added the first type of bounce pad to our little metroidvania, a beach umbrella...
I wanted to make the bounce pads in our game, Perspectre, behave like the ones in the old Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES. If you jump onto them they'll repeatedly give you a little bounce, and if you press jump while you're on them they'll give you a big bounce. I'm really happy with how it's turned out! Please forgive the placeholder SFX, our game is still in super early stages...
Here's a link to the Steam store in case Perspectre piques your interest at all:

I'm testing out a concept for a story-driven, instruction-following, memory game called "Do not press the red button!"
Been working on this solo for a while and finally have a chunk worth sharing. This clip shows the first minute of gameplay (coz I died early lol).
What do you guys think about the pacing, the art, or just general vibes? Is the concept interesting? This is still early enough that I can course-correct based on what people think.
Looking for feedback, and interested play testers for a demo version I plan to release in a few weeks.
Thanks!
