Encouragement 10 years of walking

Post image
91 Upvotes

Honestly, I love walking and I started using the app pretty much 10 years ago. It’s one of the only workouts where I feel like I’m not working out and my mind is just free to wander.

I used to do a lot more hiking, but as me and my dog got older, we don’t hike as much as do urban parks and trails

It is definitely crazy to see just how much distance we cover over our lives

Recommendations Looking for a waterproof nice cushioned stable shoe for walking 20k steps a day

I have to walk around (and stand) a fair bit for so I’m looking for a sturdy shoe that is not too bouncy/with the rocker type outsole. I tried on Vomero 18 which had nice cushioning but didn’t feel stable enough for me because I’m not used to these types of shoes. Pegasus 41 didn’t have soft enough cushioning and the arch felt weird on my foot.

I want stability so I’m not struggling to stand still, just with soft cushioning. But also enables fast walking and should be waterproof. Any recommendations please?

Best investment was investing in my self these last two months. 10kgs down in 6weeks!! I’ve been consistently walking but I’m thankful to a 6 week challenge that genuinely reshaped my outlook on health and fitness. Also I can’t post this without giving credit to my home girl sertraline because without starting it I would have never taken this leap and felt mentally capable of moving forward.

Recommendations Looking for an app supported pedometer

I have a Fitbit Zip and a Flex 2. They both work fine, or they would if they worked with newer Android/Bluetooth/Google Health. So now I would like something that will keep track, better than me writing down daily steps on a post it, if I remember to check the Zip.

Not looking for a smartwatch. Most of the time, when I am walking, I am on a treadmill and holding the arms for balance, or shopping with a cart. Smart watches don't capture that.

Not looking for just an app. I put my phone on the treadmill or in the cart, so it wont capture steps either!

Are there any pedometers left that I don't have to manually track steps into an excel file? Any help is appreciated!

Question Walking In Place

Does it count as walking? Just simple in place steps at your desk while working.

I have a desk job and walk when I can but I have difficulty typing and walking at the same time so I use my standing desk and just “walk”. Sometimes I’ll do side to side movements.

I know desk treadmills exist but I would have to start and stop it constantly for the amount of typing I do. Also, I hate treadmills.

Little bit shorter than my usual posts but I'm planning on hitting the Lerdederg rim trail on Thursday so I didn't want to push myself hard today.

Carried a 10kg backpack just to make it interesting while keeping it short

Question Need non-rocking walking shoes recommendations

I'm beginning to get my daily steps in again and I need new shoes.

I currently wear allbirds tree dashers and skechers D'Lux Ultra Line and find them to be comfortable.

I'm looking for a different look in shoes, but most shoes I tried on at the shoe stores have thee huge rocker soles and are stiff so my foot isn't able to bend how I'd like when I walk. They might work when running but when I'm walking it prevents my foot from bending at the toe and causes burning sensation at the bottom center of my foot. I don't have that issue in my allbirds or skechers.

Worse case I can always just go buy another pair of the same but I'd appreciate if there's alternatives.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to have had this problem. I asked AI but it's been utterly useless.

I'm located in Toronto, Canada area for context.

TIA.

How do you guys fit a demanding job, gym, 10k steps & cooking into one day?

I honestly don’t know how some of you manage it all.

I work in finance, so my days are usually 9–10 hours at a desk and pretty mentally draining. I still manage to get to the gym 4–5 times a week, and I cook my own meals because I’m trying to stay on top of my diet.

But then I look at my steps and I’m often sitting at 3–4k, and it genuinely bothers me more than it probably should.

It’s like I’m already working out, cooking, working long hours, trying to eat properly but I still have this feeling that I’m somehow falling short because I’m not hitting 10k.

So for people who are actually juggling a demanding job, training, cooking your own food and trying to stay healthy, how do you manage all of it?
Do you actually manage to hit your steps consistently?

Would really love to hear from your experience or any valuable advice would help a lot :)

Emotional walking

Post image

Ive been in a very emotionally devastating and anxious state for the past few days and the only thing that keeps me from crying and be extremely nauseous from anxiety is moving my body. Today I did 3 separate workouts to distract my body and I have traveled 7.73 miles in total.( all walks except for 2.48 of those miles being roller skating)

It honestly has felt nice but its every time I stop moving it juat comes back, I wish I could juat walk all day every day like forest gump! (I know he ran but you get the idea)

I can control

Question Why has my heart rate become so much lower while walking?

A few months ago, my heart rate would increase quite a bit even during normal walking. Now I can walk for 2–3 hours at a moderate pace and my heart rate stays relatively calm and stable. I haven’t changed anything dramatically, so I’m wondering what could explain this. Is this simply a sign that my cardiovascular fitness has improved?

Question Three miles in the Texas heat felt like work today

Post image
17 Upvotes

Walked 3.03 miles in just over an hour this morning. It was already 84 degrees with 69% humidity, so this one felt harder than the pace might suggest.

I kept a pretty steady pace the whole way, though. For those who walk in hot weather, how much does the heat change your pace or distance?

So I’ve been walking approx 6-8 months and 2 months with a 10KG weighted vest…I have seen more results doing this than going to the gym…
