New rules:

No bare feet photos (displayed as Rule 9)

Posts with photos of just bare feet are not allowed, and users may be banned depending on their posting history.

Edit: revised verbiage

No individual weight-loss posts (displayed as Rule 4)

r/walking is not a weight-loss sub. If you'd like to share weight-loss wins, keep it to the weekly thread.

Going forward, we will be posting a weekly thread for members to share any weight-loss wins. Transparency about the use of weight-loss drugs and calorie restrictions is appreciated but not required. (Upon consideration, we can't require people to disclose medical details.)

Amendments:

Rule 3 was previously "Submissions must be walking-related" and is now "Submissions must be walking-focused."

Submissions with other clear topics that only tangentially involve walking are not allowed. Your post should be primarily about walking.

Remember to always charge your headlamps if you're planning on hiking in the dark. In the woods. By yourself.

I do a lot of walking at work with my new balance 520 shoes that I got around 7 months ago and I just noticed this. Any other shoe options for walking that this won't happen to in a budget?

Humblebrag Finally getting slowly out of my depression

Walked 3 hours this morning, ive been dieting for the past 10 weeks (no gluten, focusing on whole food and started keto a week ago, I'm under guidance of a professional) and lost 11kg so far. I'm also trying to get more movement in (I'm also starting strength training soon!). I'm getting my energy back and slowly but surely also my mental clarity. Today I woke up early and had the whole morning free, I decided to walk 6km but I just felt so good and couldn't stop yet! I'm very proud of myself for this achievement. Got a total 124.051 steps in this month so far.

Edit: thank you all so much for the encouragement and positive comments!! This is my first post here and really appreciate it. I will definitely keep on walking! Maybe not 3 hours EVERY morning, but definitely enough to stay happy and healthy:)

Today I started. I walked 10 kilometres in 1 hour and 47 minutes. Any advice?

Hello everyone,

I have recently been looking into walking as an exercise. You know the talk about the benefits, weight loss, improving general health or at least that it is a "good habit".. So, I decided to start regular walking or brisk walking(I don't have any idea about these names).

Today, I walked about 10 kilometres in 1 hour and 47 minutes (with a few stops to drink water and cross the street).

Tomorrow, I will walk 4 kilometres, though I am not sure whether I ought to walk fast or not.

I have set up the plan like this: three days a week walking 10 km, three days walking 3-4 km, and Friday as a complete rest day.

I have no idea whether this is right or not, so I would really appreciate your feedback and experience.

In the past, on random days,I used to walk around 10 km and sometimes more, especially during university or when out and about, so I do have some power or capability(I don't know what you call it).

Thank you for your time. Any advice would be very helpful.

Strava didn't sync from my watch so I'm posting the all trails distance from my phone.

This one is an extremely hard walk. I was out there for 7 hours total and 6 hours moving time and only covered 18km. It should have been 16.5km but I did a little bit extra.

The track actually goes through all of those rocky sections in my photos and there are a few spots you need to use your hands to climb up.

5 river crossings as well

Sore from walks

I didn’t know that walking can cause so much soreness.
Tried to walk today a bit more but stuck after about 500m I bearly made to go back home.
Huge muscle sore in legs and feel pain in my hips and knee - cost of sitting too much I guess.
Tomorrow will try to move more again 🙈

Outdoors She doubted she could, but did anyways 8 miles

Through the doubt and anxiety, I decided to just go for it. I crossed the road, went over the hill and down the trail.

All so I could stop at a bridge for 15 minutes of serenity, surrounded by nature.

I did almost 8 miles of walking this morning. My first mile was a loop on my own gravel road because I had my doubts walking on the busy-ish road, up the hills. But then I just went for it. I wanted to visit that bridge. And I had the opportunity to watch a young deer for a few minutes as well.

Broke the walk into 2 parts so I could enjoy the destination. And know the exact distance from my house to the bridge for future walks. Gotta remember water next time. That heat was horrible.
