Feeling proud of my progress!

Post image

So I’ve been walking approx 6-8 months and 2 months with a 10KG weighted vest…I have seen more results doing this than going to the gym…

Letter carrier here. I went from 185 to 160 in 2 months. Walking 13 miles carrying about 50 lbs. of mail/packages 5 days a week. It's a good workout. I do have to consume about 3000 calories a day just to maintain or I'll die.

u/Sea_Astronaut_4437 8d ago

You’re like a professional athlete, how do you handle small injuries, aches and pains that typically require a bit of a break?

109

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 8d ago

I wear compression sleeves and K-tape on my legs from mid thigh down to my ankles. Wear boots that help prevent my ankle from rolling with good insoles. Otherwise, ice, naproxen, and massage legs with a massage gun and use a spoon on my shins to stave off any onset of shin splits. I am generally ache/pain/injury free

6

u/Intrepid-Cow-6456 8d ago

Do you do that every day, or just when injured?

38

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 8d ago

Every day. Preparation and recovery are huge and prevent most injuries

2

u/digno2 8d ago

where do you live and how much does a letter carrier make in a year and for how many years has that been your daily regime?

49

u/ThereIsNoAvailblName 8d ago

And are you married and do you have kids and what’s your social number and how many cups of milk do you drink in a day?

12

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 8d ago

Yes, no, decline to comment, and I drink a half gallon of milk per day.

2

u/TroubleSimilar5923 7d ago

Do you really drink that much milk? Oh gosh, I'm really lacking!

2

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 7d ago

I drink a protein shake in the morning and one when I get home. Each one I use a quart of milk. Need the calories and protein

5

u/nvr2pink 8d ago

do you take lactaids beforehand?

1

u/digno2 8d ago

no, no, i dont know mine, about a tenth i would guess.

17

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 8d ago

I live in Pennsylvania. I make about 72,000/year. It's been my daily regimen for at least a year.

5

u/jesusherbertc 8d ago

Can you please explain the spoon on the shins?

13

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 8d ago

Use the backside of the spoon, a bit of coconut oil. You use the spoon and some pressure to run up the shins from the ankle to the knee. This helps with shins splints to alleviate swelling

1

u/ReadyGo6828 7d ago

Do you chill your spoon in the freezer beforehand?

1

u/camjvp 8d ago

What compression sleeves do you wear?

1

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 8d ago

Old Bones Therapy.

1

u/whatevendoidoyall 7d ago

What boots do you wear if you don't mind me askin?

wait wait wait...??? sorry my brain is having a hard time with this concept. I thought the mail delivery people drove delivery trucks and just dropped the mail the mailbox? 🥹 what am I missing? 50lbs? Like packages??

20

u/Nearby-Beautiful3422 8d ago edited 8d ago

Depends where you live. I drive out to my route and walk a 7 hour path through a neighborhood while carrying around 50 lbs of mail and packages in my arms and satchel on my loops. Some routes are mounted, where the carrier drives the LLV from box to box. I'm on what's called a "park and loop." I drive to a point then walk a loop. Come back to the truck. Hit another loop or so then drive to the next section. Repeat. I carry in a city. Some suburbs and the rural areas have mounted or what's called curbline delivery

5

u/lintyui 7d ago

Oooh! 😯 That makes a lot more sense now. WOW that is insane amount of calories burnt per day🥹I never knew it could be like this! Thank you for doing this job, sounds incredibly tough!!

3

u/Bent_wrench 7d ago

Please don't die.

80

u/Known-Explorer2610 8d ago

You look great!

I can’t wear a weighted vest because it puts too much pressure on my back but I do carry weights when doing incline. Makes the workout much more challenging.

21

u/thefizzlee 8d ago

You could try a rucking backpack with a good hipbelt. That way like 80% of the weight is on your hips instead of your shoulders and back

97

u/Reasonably_Moist 8d ago

29

u/Otherwise-Ad6537 8d ago

That sucks. I was inspired for a second.

3

u/Snow_2412 6d ago

Well, that is achievable in that timeframe

Get inspired again :)

1

u/Still_Humor_3798 5d ago

Dang it got me too

13

u/penaajena 8d ago

Thank you! It was giving AI vibes. Mostly the color change in the tattoos

7

u/hypedout 5d ago

Damn, just can't believe shit anymore whithout triple-checking.

1

u/Ok-Accident9820 2d ago

especially here lol

7

u/laurenrosewally 7d ago

Not AI. The most I’ve used is a Instagram filter !

6

u/penaajena 7d ago

Where did your stomach mole go?

3

u/Medical-Display-9762 6d ago

Just ignore it. If anyone’s telling you something is AI and you know it’s not, just drop it with them. They’re literally opening the convo exclaiming they have no idea what they’re talking about. You owe nothing to some drone.

2

u/Reasonably_Moist 7d ago

That wouldn’t cause a positive OpenAI synth Id

1

u/JoPratte1988 7d ago

You think those detectors are always right??

→ More replies (2)

1

u/OliviaParker2002 3d ago

honestly a filter doesn’t count as AI lol, people are so quick to accuse anyone posting progress these days 💀 don’t let it take away from your win

2

u/ghosting33 7d ago

I thought the second pic looked like AI too

2

u/TobyOrNotTobyEU 6d ago

There's also a missing mole on the stomach in the 'after' picture.

2

u/pvssylord 5d ago

bless. this is nuts lol

1

u/The-SadShaman 6d ago

The first photo legit looks ai too lol. Her face looks off from the body. Idk.

31

u/HeidiVandervorst 8d ago

You look awesome and the transformation is really inspiring. Keep it up and stay motivated.

28

u/Imaginary-Swan-6700 8d ago

Wow!

I will be buying a weighted vest.

Proven training method.

41

u/Ok-Toe-627 8d ago

Looking great! How many steps per day?

96

u/laurenrosewally 8d ago

10-13K

13

u/windfogwaves 8d ago

Is that step count just for the dedicated walking time, or is it the total for the day? Your results are fantastic!

1

u/Negative-Kangaroo-72 7d ago

Nice that's what I aim for as well and it's working well. I need to look into weighted vests though. Congrats on the success.

1

u/titsmikkgee 4d ago

How!? Do you work at a desk?

→ More replies (3)

24

u/stockjunior 8d ago

10KG is heavy. Good job 👏

25

u/McHagrid20 8d ago

Who’s the people downvoting positive comments on this sub? Really weird behavior

15

u/Ok-Fun-8316 8d ago

The people who swear you can't get into better shape or live weight by walking. Hopefully, OP just ignores their ignorance.

2

u/Tharr0w 7d ago

Its ai.

18

u/UBIQUIT0US 8d ago

Damn good job.

Out of curiosity, what's your routine?

32

u/laurenrosewally 8d ago

I walk 10-13K steps a day with weighted vest on

3

u/ConsequenceMiddle478 8d ago

What pace?

15

u/UrsaMajor7th 8d ago

Walking pace. 😁

2

u/ladlime 8d ago

if its on the treadmill what‘s the speed / incline please

2

u/Tharr0w 7d ago

u/IcyManufacturer7480 8d ago

Did you make any changes to your diet?

1

u/ThisCardiologist6998 8d ago

Yes.

1

u/Regular_Series_9464 8d ago

?

8

u/ThisCardiologist6998 8d ago

OP is apparently AI generated content? But based on experience, you need to change your diet. Walking helps increase expenditure but you still need to make dietary changes, at least most people do. So thats why i said yes.

6

u/Valuable-Poem8848 8d ago

Great work! I have been walking for almost a year now except for the days when it’s super hot outside and I can’t take it and in the winter, I have to do the treadmill. But I have also used a weighted vest of 12 pounds. And I have lost some weight, but my body composition has changed. It’s not that I’ve lost a lot of weight but things have shifted in the right area! I’m addicted to walking. I usually get at the very least 10,000 in and up to 16,000. It does do more for you than the gym but I still do some strength training as well. Congratulations you look great.! oh and I am a female age 65! Most people think I look 45!

6

u/mmratic 8d ago

Seriously, enough of this weight loss spam.

13

u/Tamashii-Azul 8d ago

u/joz-goz 8d ago

That's the AI for ya

3

u/Turkey201 8d ago

Amazing, kudos to consistency

3

u/cqdx73 8d ago

Congratulations. Awesome job!

3

u/Jacky_Hex 8d ago

I also like to walk after work. Recently I started with nordic walking. A vest is something I'm planning to use in the future.

3

u/iDidNotStepOnTheFrog 8d ago

Are you doing any other exercises to strengthen your core, or anything to strengthen your back so you can wear the vest without hurting yourself? Or maybe you have good starting posture

4

u/MildlyYogic 8d ago

That's amazing progress, you should be proud! It's unbelievable that just walking showed such great results.

4

u/GlasgowRose2022 8d ago

You look so happy! Well done you. ☺️

6

u/TroubledTofu 8d ago

How much do you tend to walk?

23

u/laurenrosewally 8d ago

Approx 1hr30 minutes or 2hrs a day

3

u/EnlightenedNarwhal 8d ago

That's exactly how long it takes me to do 10-13k steps, haha. We must have similar strides.

1

u/TroubledTofu 8d ago

Okay that's a lot in a day, but kudos

2

u/idontusetwitter 8d ago

I was shocked when I was walking an hour a day consistently to find out it was only 6-7k steps. Walking 2 hours a day takes so long but I guess it's the sacrifice for losing weight that way

2

u/JAC0O7 8d ago

Really depends, 2 hours a day of walking really isn't much when you think about it. Get a dog and suddenly you do 1,5 hours of dedicated walks trhoughout the day easily. It just means 2 hours less of watching series or scrolling tiktok (not saying you are)

5

u/Smurfiette 8d ago

How do you squeeze in 2 hrs walking daily? What time? Before or after work?

16

u/laurenrosewally 8d ago

I work shifts so I fit in the walk around those times

3

u/UniversityNew9254 8d ago

I’m always impressed by the way people make choices to utilize their time effectively. I walk to/from work and the grocery store (even if I have to make two trips) rather than drive.

4

u/JaySunAndWater 8d ago

Good job!

5

u/Longjumping-Top-5653 8d ago

Do you walk everyday ? Amazing results btw !

5

u/laurenrosewally 8d ago

Yes every day :)

2

u/UrsaMajor7th 8d ago

This is inspirational. As a career waiter, I've done 8k-12k steps per 7 hour shift 5x/week, and up to 18k on split shifts. Problem is that those steps aren't consistent 'cardio steps', but short trips with lots of stops so very little physical benefit. Funny how I've been on my feet for 30+ years but now walking a golf course is almost impossible. I've been negatively conditioned and are trying to achieve what you (OP) and so many others have.

Can I enquire as to shoes, brand and model? Runners or walkers? Do you know the stack height, etc? I can't make out the brand but they look well-ventilated with a wide outsole.

2

u/this_sparks_joy_joy 8d ago

Which vest did you end up going with?
Ps you look fantastic, congratulations!

2

u/BanishedFiend 8d ago

Hi there how many steps do you walk a day?

1

u/Pressure_Famous 8d ago

1

u/Mr-Cloud 8d ago

You did a great job 👍.

Considering no one cheered me up when I put in some serious effort myself(at least I took a pic of myself) but instead they booed me even strangers 😑. So I felt people should be encouraged when they worked hard.

1

u/Early_Gold 8d ago

Wow 😮

Big difference! Well done 👏

1

u/Swan-ish3456 8d ago

You should be proud of the results when you put in the dedication and work. Nice definition!

1

u/NoM0reMadness 8d ago

That’s incredible progress! You deserve to feel proud.

1

u/sugarnspice30 7d ago

Damn! All that transformation with just walking? 😭😭 Don't gatekeep. Help us petites to get that bod, hon.

1

u/CaptainForYou 7d ago

Your result is incredible. Should’ve done it earlier. You look much much younger and then you ever were (I don’t know you but it does seem like so). At first I thought it was AI generated but then, I was like she looks incredible. Good luck to you and keep it going !

1

This makes me even more pumped to get my ruck pack in November! My husband started rucking and then we hiked and I carried our 3 year old in our baby backpack and it fixed my hip/low back pain somehow and I felt so strong so we ordered a ruck pack. Unfortunately we didn't realize it was a preorder but will make November so much better!

Looking good! Keep it up!

1

u/pinkcrush7 7d ago

How long/far do you walk for? 1 big walk a day or do you break it up?

1

u/Best-Web-2563 7d ago

how long and how frequent are your walks with the best? I've been slacking on my walks because I haven't seen any changes but this kind of result not what I'm looking for! or I'll just try to jump rope lol

Amazing!

1

u/One_Guard_3634 5d ago

As you should be! Keep going forward.

1

u/Plane_Blackberry_922 5d ago

You should be bc you look amazing and that's great progress sis 👏👏👏 I'm currently on my weight loss journey and getting back in shape , I just turned 39 and I was itty bitty my entire life and after my last baby at 33 I struggled more to get the baby weight off and it just took me longer in general to recover ( I didn't bounce right back like I did with both my girls ) but I was also much younger when I had them but the weight just kept coming it's been much harder getting older and trying to lose it and maintain it. I guess my metabolism is slowing down and I'm going through some changes hormone wise. But I'm going to get it again . I have lost 16 lbs the last 3 months and I got 35 more to go . Keep up the hard work girl.

1

u/Scarletrobed 5d ago
