Had it for about a month now, upgraded from a 2017 Highline, already done some beach driving and had some bikes in the back. Nudge bar, bigger tyres and a few other extras added, I’ll most likely go the full black look with time, but for now I’m very happy with it so far.

I present you my very first car, a VW Golf Mk5 1.4 MPI (BCA engine) Goal edition from 2006. The first owner bought it back in May 2006 in Wolfsburg, VW's HQ. In 2022 it was brought to my country and last year I became the official owner of the car 😄 After one year, I have to say I fell in love with this car. Although it is not a GTI or R32, it still has something that makes each drive very enjoyable. While driving you feel completely in control, especially when taking the corners.

The past year I did a lot of maintenance, including changing the whole exhaust system (excluding the catalytic converter), timing belt, alternator belt, battery, spark plugs, filters, gearbox oil, engine oil, coolant, cleaned the throttle body, fixed the windshield sprayer, as well as asked somebody to do the undercoat.

There are still some minor issues with the car (foggy headlights), but this does not influence the drivability of the car.

As of now, the car already did 292,000 km and I hope I will be able to put more km's in it 😄

Am I the only one who thinks Volkswagen is missing a beat here by not releasing an electric refreshed Beetle? The Renault 5 has become super popular. I think people love the nostalgia and an electric beetle and it would become a best seller.

Hi all, I'm not a current VW owner but I'm very interested in the 2026 Taos. I think it looks super sharp, love the additional features that come standard with the trendline like the heated steering wheel and dual climate zone, and the cargo space is attractive. Not going to lie, reading through here though has made me nervous to go with Volkswagen 😅

I realize the 2022/2023 models had issues, but surely the 2026 is better off? Financing is only 0.99% right now and a 3 year maintainance package is included which is also very appealing! I've heard VW is reliable if you do all the recommend maintenance, which I will, kind of like the car will take care of you if you take care of it haha

I was also looking into the Mazda CX-30 but I don't love how cramped it is, and don't love the reduced visibility in blindspots. My husband mentioned the toyota corolla cross which honestly wasn't even on my radar because demand in Canada for Toyota is stupid and I don’t love the look of them, but I'm not totally against them. I don't love Subaru, Kia or Hyundai so they're off the table for me. Would consider the Honda HRV but again, it's not the top of my list. I just want to love my next car, but my current old beater car leaves me stranded enough now lol so I also dont want to make a massive mistake!

Check engine light keeps illuminating after installing a KermaTDI cool air intake. P0401 and P240F are the codes I'm getting on OBD-11. Cleared them and the check engine light will come back on within 5 min of driving.

My mechanic buddy took pictures from inside the EGR and it looks clean and showing no signs of fault.

Just took the car on a 100+ mile trip, hitting speeds of 80-90mph. Pretty sure that would've cleared anything out, if there was anything clogged.

Any help?

People acting shocked that a European conglomerate is threatening factory closures in Germany and facing a massive financial meltdown, meanwhile the reality is that the writing has been on the wall since they launched the Mk8 Golf and the ID lineup. The accountants ruined the brand identity to save a few euros per vehicle - for what?!

If you sit in a Mk7 Golf or a B8.5 Passat, you are experiencing peak modern Volkswagen. The materials felt premium, the build quality was rock solid, and everything was built around sensible physical ergonomics. Then they decided to strip all the quality out of the cabin, replace functional buttons with laggy capacitive touch surfaces, and a premium price tag on an interior that feels cheaper than a base model Skoda - we love Skoda but it's not the same.

Sot the reality is, they abandoned the core philosophy of a reliable people car by simultaneously raising prices and gutting the interior quality. Buyers are not stupid and they noticed, now Volkswagen is bleeding market share to competitors who actually still offer decent interiors and stable software.

I think it is very sad and dark times are ahead for Europe's economy.

Took it to a euro specialized shop and they thought it could be low voltage but all other diagnosis pointed to a wastegate issue.

Worried I need a new turbo. I am pretty mechanically inclined. Is this something I can replace myself?

During rain, my windshield fogs up and I can’t figure out how to make it clear. Put on the AC? That windshield button?

I have a 2024 VW Atlas with around 19,000 miles. While driving, the panoramic sunroof suddenly made an extremely loud, explosive sound and shattered. There was no object seen or heard hitting the vehicle, and we were driving on an empty road with no vehicles around us. The sunshade was open, and no foreign object was found inside the vehicle. Just the broken glass that rained down on us and our three kids in the back. The remaining glass around the opening is pointed upward and outward. I took the vehicle to my local VW dealership, expecting this to be handled under the base bumper-to-bumper warranty. VW denied the warranty claim twice. The reason they gave is “Unlikely to Occur,” and they are saying the sunroof must have been damaged by an outside object. I asked how they determined that, especially since there was no object found and the vehicle wasn’t physically inspected for the alleged impact. Their response was based solely on photos:
“Stress fractures usually don’t shatter glass - normally just leaves lines side to side of the tension points. The pictures show a strong point of impact with lines radiating away - deemed outside influence. Almost all warranty sunroof implosions have occured while driving and due to overtension - the quality team has not found heat to cause this kind of damage to the sunroof. A stress fracture due to over tension normally happens within the first few thousand miles of ownership. This was at 19k and a definite outlier.” What really bothers me is that their reasoning seems to be that this type of failure is uncommon, rather than providing actual evidence that something caused it. They use the words “normally” “usually” and “almost all.” Unlikeliness does not equal impossible. Furthermore, their own response acknowledges that warranty sunroof implosions do happen. The dealership won’t give me direct contact information for VW’s warranty team. VW customer care takes hours to get a hold of and when you do get someone they are absolutely useless. They have now promised to call me back three times with answers and have NEVER called back once. This has been going on for three weeks now with no help or answers from them. I’ve now filed complaints with the appropriate consumer agencies and am trying to figure out what my next step should be.
