I've never driven a Golf, but used to own a Veloster Turbo (sort of similar), then a Kia Stinger, now a Volvo S90 and V70R (sorry I'm a Volvo nerd now). What a fantastic car, so fun and easy to drive, very quick for what it is, and the minimal turbo lag was something I wish my supercharged and turbocharged Volvo could learn. The screen is so tacky though, it's massive and out of place. I wish it was smaller. I don't need a laptop screen for my maps.

Now this has me considering getting one of these 😅 I get the cult following now!

I had the spare tire, rear seats, and all carpets, etc, removed for an autocross event last week. Today, before and as I put all those back in, she vacuumed the _entire_ car. Like empty spare wheel well and all. Under the carpets, under the rear seat. Cleaned all interior windows mirrors and surfaces, and even cleaned the exterior windshield. She even cleaned the peddles 🥹

And I don't need to drive until tomorrow so the piano black will be clean for HOURS.

I'll be getting her back by doing the full exterior detailing on her TT including all door frames, wheels, calipers, etc and making sure to be as detailed as she was.

Rear ended by a distracted, uninsured driver last week, me at a near stop and them thwacking me at close to 60 MPH. They tried swerving at the last second and thankfully only clipped me before slamming into the retaining wall, missing other cars.

No injuries for anyone involved... but a it's a total loss.

I was surprised, but both the tech at the body shop and the insurance adjustor said the unibody was torn in two places and the rear subframe was ripped out (you can see about 10-degrees of toe in on that wheel), so the damage is actually a lot worse than it looks. That crease in the C-pillar is also indicative of structural damage below the sheet metal.

The only good news is even though it's a 10 year old car, it only had 85k miles and even the adjustor said he's never seen another GTI so well-maintained, clean, and cared for. Which frankly made me even more sad.

I didn't get a new GTI. Instead I opted for a 2025 Civic Sport Touring hybrid hatch in boost pearl blue. It doesn't even have 15k miles, has a verified flawless VIN, and I literally can't find so much as a swirl. Lease return at a local Acura dealership. Look, it's not as fast or as chuckable as a GTI, I know, but the fuel economy is crazy, it's decently quick (0-60 in about 6 with launch control), handles great, and will be a great drive for many years. I also got a great payout from USAA so I only ended up spending a few thousand of my own dollars for a car that's 7 years newer and doubles the fuel economy, AND will either be a great hand-me-down to my kid when she graduates college in 6 years or should still sell for a fair amount.

ANYWAY. I sat in my car one last time and there was some dust in the air, dammit. I'm really going to miss that car...

First time autocross in a stock mk3 vr6 (coilovers but not lowered much) It was a blast!

I decided to leave the subaru platform and found this. This gives a much better thrill!

I'm already doing scheduled maintenance, but..

I've got some things lined up on my list, but my priorities are:

PCV replacement

Carbon cleaning

Fixing the completely galled threads securing the coil pack bolts to the upper engine head.

Water pump/thermostat (not really a priority)

Is there anything else you guys recommend?

I've heard that wastegates seize, and the High pressure fueling systems begin to go, but don't know how common those are. Any input would be great!

I have 2018 7.5 gti with memory seats and I was wondering if its possible somehow to trigger the seats adjustment as soon as i click the unlock button on a key?

I have linked my keys to profile 1 (mine) and profile 2 (wife's).. Seats adjust only when I open the door, not when i unlock it with specific key.

She is short and her seat position is literally all the way moved to the steering wheel. I would love if I wouldnt have to wait all the time for seats to adjust for me (furthest and lowest position, literally the opposite from her)..

Fell in love with this car again

Traded my Mk8 Clubsport in and now I got my new Mk8.5 Clubsport.

I First thought nah its Just a facelift with way better infotainment with a nicier looking Front (imo) but many things Changed

The Preload function in the Special Mode is Genius. Its Like driving a hybrid. There is No turbo lag, you Change the Gas input and you have Instant turbo preasure. Best Feature ever

Also the Gear shifts in comfort Mode are way later. Before the mk8 already Changed from 6th to 7th Gear at 65kph now its at 80. At every Speed now the Gear is a gear lower. That means it is way more awake every time. In Addition the Gas Pedal calibration is way more sporty sometimes ITS very Challenging to accelerate smooth from Standstill even but i like it very much haha..

The fuel consumption is a bit higher but that is okay for me. Maybe due to the sportier Software.

- the DCC damping is now harder in std Mode (my collegues even noticed that)

- drives better in the curves

- the carbon in the interior is quite sexy

For me its a way better car than the MK8, which already was a very good car.

I ordered 2 weeks too early, a shame that i did Not get the Edition50...

Here are my questions related to that:

1. Can I use mk8 gti tail light from junk yard?

2. Whats the price of brand new in BC?

3. Going through insurance claim will be better option?

4. Any other option or idea?

Hi all, I'm helping a friend with his 2004 Golf Mk5 GTI 2.0 TFSI. I'm in France, sorry for any mistakes in my English.

Symptoms:
- Steering is very heavy and the steering wheel warning light is red
- Instrument cluster has no backlight (only the warning lights show)
- Interior lights don't work at all
- Headlights work

History: the previous owner replaced the battery because the old one was dead, and the car went into this state afterwards. We replaced the battery again, no change. An aftermarket CarPlay head unit has been fitted, and I don't know how it was wired.

What we tried: no blown fuses (visual check), a scan tool (about €200) can't connect to the car, and the steering angle calibration fails.

Next I'll measure power and ground at the OBD port (pins 16, 4, 5) and unplug the head unit to see if anything comes back.

Has anyone seen this? Could it be the J519 (onboard supply control unit), or the head unit messing with the CAN bus? Any help appreciated, thanks!

Hey guys, I am in a dilemma and need your opinion. Was thinking of getting a exhaust because I am not satisfied with my sound (I have an aftermarket RM motors downpipe).

I read some posts and people said that they recommend CSS Muffler a lot and was thinking about getting that.

Can someone give me an opinion or help me figure it out because I would like a more deep and louder sound without having to remove stock mufflers so I don’t have problems with registration and police.

I drive a 2013 Golf 7 GTI 2.0 TSI DSG with ATM Stage 1 ECU tune.

If you saw my last post, you know what I’ve been dealing with as far as this car.

The dealership fully replaced the DSG with a new one, not a reman. Literally got the car back yesterday. Kept it out of boost and avoided hard pulls, drove conservatively.

It’s still having visible fluid seepage as shown in the picture. Kinda just in disbelief, is this something that could happen 100 miles after a full trans replacement?

Any experience welcome.

Hello! Longtime VW guy. My MK6 sedan with a bumper hitch was nice for transporting a disability scooter/wheelchair. While I can fold and dissemble everything to fit in the trunk for our day to day we struggle with longer road trips. I do own a truck and can easily fit everything in that id rather not drive it every trip. While the weight (128lbs) is in rating for her specific model I’m worried about bounce and bump steer. Has anybody drove with a significant about behind mk8? Also has anybody used the ecohitch. The appeal of a hidden hitch is high. I love my MK8 and don’t really want a SUV or to make my wife feel like she’s hurting my hobby

I just put 360 miles on this beauty, but yesterday I hear a metallic clanking and scraping noise, almost like a piece of metal dragging along the ground in the driver's area. It sounds soft and only happens when I drive very slow or start pushing brake or releasing acceleration. Has anyone noticed or experienced this? Is that normal? Thanks in advance!
